West Zirconian national manager Ben Phillips has made just one change for World Cup 60 qualifying. Stuart Palmer, responsible for many of the howlers which cost the Meerkats in the Copa Rushmori, is dropped. Houghton Kestrels' James Kenny moves up to replace him, with Steve West of Taylor's Cross being called up to replace Palmer in the squad.

The first XI is as follows:

GK Mike Chapman (Bradley Hornets)
DL Jason Clemence (Markham)
DC James Kenny (Houghton Kestrels)
DC Karl-Heinz Holzmann (Wacker Neustadt)
DR Jon Wood (Stanley United)
ML Gary Tandy (Banks)
MC Tom Chamberlain (Crompton Town)
MC Andy Peters (c) (Mort Park)
MR Ray Scott (Taylor's Cross)
FW Alun Lydiate (Bradley Hornets)
FW Steve Allerton (Stanley United)

Substitutes:

Goalkeepers:
Mike Leonard (Banks)
Steve Pearce (Stanley United)

Defenders:
Harry Turner (Markham)
Adam Clarke (Civil Service)
Steve West (Taylor's Cross)

Midfielders:
Paul McCoy (Bradley Hornets)
Andy Cotton (Stanley United)
Liam Smith (Taylor's Cross)

Forwards:
Scott Woods (Markham)
Ross Goodey (Banks)
James Newton (Mort Park)

[OOC: Style qualifier - a counter-attacking +1. Do anything that would be at least remotely realistically possible - the funnier the better.]

Bears Armed

‘The Bear-Belles’

National football organisation: ‘Bears Armed Association for Soccer’ (= ‘BAAS’).
(Chairbear: Arrannah Graye [Chairbear of River City S.C.])
National anthem (for sports): ‘The Banner Green And Gold’.

Yes, it still is an all-female team. As I’ve explained before, this is because the main ball-game that's traditionally been played in Bears Armed is actually a form of Rugby, but [for several reasons] the professional league for that sport is all-male and so some of the female players decided that switching to Soccer — and trying to establish a professional league for that sport for themselves instead — might be a viable alternative: They were right, because that professional league was founded shortly after WC44 and so has now been in operation for over sixty years.

All of the players are actual Ursines (i.e. anthropomorpic, bipedal Bears)], except for any whom I actually specify as being members of other ‘peoples’ instead. The Harr'aynau people are physically human (more-or-less, anyway, although inclined towards heavy builds & hairiness), but are spiritually & culturally Ursine instead.

According to Bears Armed’s timeline, the qualifiers for WC60 take place in 2073-’74
AD, and the Cup proper in 2075AD: All figures given here for people’s ages and lengths of experience are the values applying in the first of those three years.

Staff

Manager & Chief Coach: Urra ‘Honey’ SunBlesséd _ A female Ursine from the Sun Clan, she has 68 years of experience in football and played for the Bear-Belles from BoF#31 right through into WC#57. She is now 85 years old but, although not amongst the people from the team’s former staff who were “rejuvenated” in 2042, still seems quite ‘young’ both physically and mentally. She is right-pawed, with ‘honey-brown’ fur, and has very good eyesight even by human (rather than Ursine) standards. She is a very accurate kicker, and was therefore one of the usual first choices for taking free kicks & penalties. Her nickname comes from her fur-colour, and her very sweet nature: Originally it was also because (as we must admit…) she was rather “thick”, but then she ‘grew-up’ mentally during WWC12 & the qualifiers for WC50 so that now she has a verrry good mind indeed… She acted as manager for the [“unified”] U21 teams that Bears Armed entered in DBC13 (=> runners-up) and DBC14 (=> quarter-finals), whilst WC58 (with its qualifiers) was her first competition in charge of the country’s senior team.

Deputy Manager (Admin): Amarra Marra o Harruor
(female Ursine, from Clan Harruor Erruur; formerly a staff member at BAAS, appointed to this job just before DBC21; age = 32, fur = medium-brown).

Deputy Manager (Coaching): Cierra o Vorross
(female Ursine; Clan = GreenWoods, age = 42, left-pawed, fur = light brown with paler reddish highlights. She made her international debut as a player as a last-minute member of the smaller-than-planned team that represented Bears Armed in DBC15, having travelled to that competition as a supporter but then been “drafted” to fill one of their vacant places due to her status as the ‘National Under-15 Keepy-Uppy Champion’; having become a professional footballer she then played for River City as a Midfielder and was also a member of the Bear-Belles [usual position = Midfield Left] until & including the ‘Golden Honeycomb’ friendly before the qualifiers for WC60 began: playing experience = 29 years; just appointed to this job).

Defensive Coach: Jhargeena o Wirrene
(female Ursine; Clan = Herrchaum, age = 38, right-pawed, fur = very light brown with some reddish hints; languages spoken = Verrene, Ursine ['HeartWoods' dialect], and English; religion = 'Wookha' ; she sometimes seems to have a sort of "sixth sense" about what's going to happen on the pitch during the next few moments; off of the pitch, she favours loose skirts and draped scarves in bright (& often contrasting) colours, with more jewellery than is typical for Ursines (i.e. her people's equivalent of a 'Gypsy chic' look…) in emulation of her [rather distant] relative Arna-Maggra; the only new addition to the team for WC56, she had actually been short-listed for DBC17 but had had to stay at home instead back then due to a family emergency; she played for Mighty Herrchaum as a Defender, and became a member of the Bear-Belles [usual position = Left Back] until & including the ‘Golden Honeycomb’ friendly before the qualifiers for WC60 began: playing experience = 23 years; just appointed to this job).

Attacking Coach: Taborra Sheerh
(female Tiggrahth'hrra [i.e. anthropomorphic Tiger]; Clan = Tiggrahth'hrra; age = 36 years, right-pawed, fur = black with orange stripes; "Fast and furious"; she played for Kingly City as a Lynchpin, Midfielder, or Forward, for 13 years [until just before these qualifiers began] and was widely credited with playing a major role in powering that team’s rise back up through the Upper Division from relegation-threatened to a regular place in the top four; She made her international debut in WC57 ‘proper’ [ joining the Belles after the qualifying stages of that tournament; playing experience = 14 years; just appointed to this job).

Doctor: Rebearrch’hra o RedRose
(female Ursine, from the RedRose ‘Free Sept’; age = 37, left-pawed, fur = medium brown with reddish highlights; hired just before DBC21.)

Physio: Behrthye NorthWalker
(female Harr’aynau [humanoid], from Clan WildWoods; age = 33, right-handed, hair = ginger; hired just before DBC21.)

Routemaster (this job involves handling all of the squad’s travelling arrangements): This is currently a part of Amarra Marra o Harruor’s duties.

Chaplain, ‘One Plus Seven’: Urrsulha Nightfall
(female Ursine from the Silver-of-Night; age = late-30s, left-pawed, fur = silvery; assigned to this job, by the Great Medicine Society, just before the qualifiers for WC57.)

Chaplain, Ursion: Derrik Ommin
(male Ursine, from Clan Artorran; age = 39; right-pawed, fur = light brown & fairly short, he is a bit closer to ‘human’ in shape than is the average Ursine; seconded to this post from the staff of the ArchPriest of New Sarrum, who is the Earthly head of the Ursion Church; he is a keen student of Football, both nationally & internationally, and can bore for England Bears Armed on the details of teams’ records & players’ careers [and about the statistics involved, too: Did I mention yet that he originally trained as a statistician? ^_^ ] — if you give him even half a chance…)

Security Chief: Major Arran Warrd
(male Ursine, from Clan Herrchaum; age = 38, left-pawed, fur = dark grey; easily overlooked, most of the time; seconded from [an unspecified unit within] the Confederal Army to this job just before the qualifiers for WC57.)

Caterers: Jorrdon Blue.

“Mascot”: ‘The Wise Grorrfinn’ (male ‘TrueBear’; age = undisclosed [but considering some of his appearances in old stories apparently somewhere over 1’500, at least...], ambidextrous, fur = medium-brown); during WC54 it was revealed that he is the maternal grandfather of Urra ‘Honey’ SunBlesséd.

Roster

(#1) Marra o Mara _ Clan = BerryGlades; Home team = ‘Belgium FC’ (The Babbage Islands) (transferred shortly before WC#56’s qualifiers began), category & usual position = Goalkeeper, experience = 25 years, proven as a verrry good goalie; age = 39 years, left-pawed, fur = dark-medium brown. (DBC17 was her international debut.)

(#5) Marranna NorthStar _ Clan = NorthStar [‘Free Sept’]; home team = NorthPort Navigators, category & usual position = Goalkeeper, experience = 10 years; age = 23 years, right-pawed, fur = very light brown, she has very quick reflexes and keen senses. (She made her international debut in DBC21.)

(#31) Sa’marra o Barrdenn _ Clan = GreenWoods; home team = Barrden Barbariennes, category & usual position = Goalkeeper, experience = 8 years; age = 23 years, left-pawed, fur = dark-medium brown & quite long, she is not only rather tall (7’2”) but has a deceptively long reach even in proportion to that height. (This is her international debut.)

(#2) Marrla o SouthWoods _ Clan = WestWoods; Home team = Wiston United, category = Defender, usual position = Right Back, experience = 7 years; age = 20 years, right-pawed, fur = medium-brown. (She made her international debut in last year’s friendly match against The Babbage Islands.)

(#3) Irrie o Herrin _ Clan = Urrset (Northern); Home team = NorthGate Nomads, category = Defender, usual position = Left Back, experience = 20 years; age = 33 years, left-pawed, fur = russet. (She made her international debut in DBC18, as a substitute, and also then played as a starter in DBC19.)

(#16) Lueth’hree Redwood _ Clan = Redwood; home team = River City, category = Defender, usual position = Left Back, experience = 11 years; age = 21 years, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown. (She made her international debut in DBC21, and also played in Brevity Cup 2, both of which the Bears won....)

(#17) Urratharra o SouthWoods _ Clan = WestWoods; home team = GramBridge Town, category = Defender or Midfielder, preferred & usual position = Right Back, experience = 13 years; age = 25 years, right-pawed, fur = medium-brown. (She made her international debut in DBC19, as a substitute, and was then a starter in DBC20; she has also played for the Bears in Brevity Cup 2.)

(#32) Samarh’hra GreenFells _ Clan = GreenWoods. Home team = River City, category = Defender, preferred position = Right Back, experience = 10 years; age = 25, ambidextrous, fur = medium-dark brown & quite [but not “excessively”] long. (She made her international debut in World Cup 59 ‘proper’ [rather than in its qualifying stages].)

(#4) Hirrdhra o TrueHeart _ Clan = BerryGlades; Home team = Merlchester Rovers, category = Midfielder or Defender, usual position = Lynchpin, experience = 23 years; age = 33 years, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown with [natural] ‘strawberry’ highlights; seems to have a knack for anticipating opponents’ actions; also qualified as a Dream Interpreter. (She made her international debut in DBC18, as a starting Midfielder & the Captain, shifting to Lynchpin -- & still Captain – in DBC19, but some of you may also remember her as a spectator from WC54...) She is now this team’s Captain.

(#26) Darrarlha o GoodSword _ Clan = Sun; Home team = Sun Valley Smashers, category = Defender or Lynchpin or Midfielder, usual position = Lynchpin, experience = 10 years; age = 24 years, ambidextrous, fur = blonde; a superlative player, and a good tactician. (She made her international debut in DBC21, which her team won, and then joined the Belles for WC59.) She wears with pride the same number that her aunt Urrthra o GoodSword — who died heroically in the fighting against the ‘Dead Bears Walking’ — bore through several Cups.

(#33) Irdh’hrra o Errurr _ Clan = Errurr Erruur; Home team = PassPort Athletic, category = Lynchpin or Midfielder, usual position = Lynchpin, experience = 7 years; age = 22 years, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown, “average” looking but surprisingly fast. (This is her international debut.)

(#6) Herra Harrhlach _ Clan = March, Harr’aynau humanoid; Home team = Mighty Marchers, category = Midfielder, usual position = Left Half, experience = 19 years; age = 33 years, left-footed, hair = russet; good enough that she’s already a professional player — albeit not in one of the country’s very best teams — at her current age. (She made her international debut in DBC18, as a reserve, and was also with the ‘Baby Belles’ – this time as a starter – forDBC19.)

(#7) Karramarrsar Tharrarra _ Clan = Ostbora; Home team = OstPort Dynamo, category = Midfielder, usual position = Right Half, experience = 20 years; age = 33 years, right-pawed, fur = light brown; first cousin of # 14, with whom she works verrry well. (She made her international debut in DBC18, as a starter, and also filled that role during DBC19.)

(#20) Urma Lightning _ Clan = Gunnar; Home team = Hero’s Park Heroines, category = Midfielder, usual position = Midfield Right, experience = 12 years; age = 25, right-pawed, fur = light brown. (She made her international debut in the Brevity Cup.)

(#21) Bruinhilda Addarich’-darthhrurr _ Clan = Vasrbora. Home team = LakePort Lionesses, category = Defender / (Defensive) Midfielder, preferred position = Left Back, experience = 11 years; age = 25, left-pawed, fur = very light brown, relatively light build. (She made her international debut in World Cup 59 ‘proper’ [rather than in its qualifying stages].)

(#11) Harrashia o Redwood _ Clan = Redwood; home team = Merlchester Rovers, category = Forward /Winger/Midfielder usual position = Left forward (‘Inside Left’), experience = 17 years; age = 30 years, ambidextrous, fur = medium-brown with hints of russet; she is a great-great-niece of Harroya “of the Rovers” o Redwood, former captain of the Bear-Belles, but gained this place on merit. (She made her international debut as a substitute in DBC 19, joining the Belles for WC57.)

(#12) Imbrhra/Umbrhra _ Clan = Chargh’ghrarr; Home team = Heroes’ Park Harlequins, category = Forward, usual position = Centre Forward, experience = 21 years; age = 31 years, left-pawed/right-pawed, fur = dark-medium brown & rather long; somewhat over 7’ tall and broad in proportion, but certainly not slow or clumsy; actually a pair of identical twins who count as a single person for legal purposes and who often act as though they share a single mind, the two halves of this player will normally stay close together on the pitch and might keep passing the ball back-&-forth. (She made her international debut in DBC18, as a substitute, and was then a starter for the ‘Baby Belles’ through DBC19, joining the Belles for WC57.)

(#13) Amarra Sunwatcher _ Clan = Sun; Home team = Sun Valley Smashers, category = Forward, usual position = Right Forward (‘Inside Right’), experience = 14 years; age = 25 years, right-pawed, fur = “oatmeal” colour, eyesight good even by human standards, very fast on her feet, very accurate in ‘set pieces’ for which she is therefore one of the favoured takers. (She made her international debut in DBC20.)

[#23] Syrrae o Wirrenne _Clan = Herrchaum; Home team = Merlchester Rovers, category = Forward, usual position = Left Forward (Inside Left) but also good as Centre Forward, experience = 10 years; age = 24, left-pawed, fur = ‘platinum-blonde’; seems to have an [almost?] psychic instinct about where the ball and other players will be next. (She made her international debut in the Brevity Cup.)

(#24) Teddorhrra Thunder _ Clan = Gunnar; home team = Newton Arsenal, category = Forward or Winger, preferred & usual position = Right Forward (Inside Right), experience = 17 years; age = 29, right-pawed, fur = dark brown. She is the team’s Deputy Captain. (She made her international debut in DBC19, as a substitute, and was then a starter in DBC20.)

(#25) Urrth’hrra o Barrdenn _ Clan = GreenWoods; Home team = Barrdenn Barbariennes, category = Forward, usual position = Left Forward (‘Inside Left’), experience = 13 years; age = 25 years, right-pawed, fur = dark brown & quite long. (She made her international debut in DBC20 and also played in DBC21.)

(#34) Thyrra Darma’s-darthhrr _ Clan = Thulean; Home team = Ursinborkh Angels, category = Forward, usual position = Right Forward (but has also done well as a Centre Forward), experience = 8 years; age = 21, right-pawed, fur = white [‘polar’], big — despite her youth — but rather fast & agile.

(#14) Karramarrsar Thyrrinthra _ Clan = Ostbora; Home team = OstPort Dynamo, category = Winger, usual position = Right Winger (‘Outside Right’), experience = 20 years; age = 33 years, right-pawed, fur = light brown; first cousin of #7, with whom she works well. (She made her international debut in DBC18, as a starter, and then filled the same role in DBC19, joining the Belles for WC57.)

(#15) Harrietta Karra o Hara _ Invisible Wabbit; Clan = BerryGlades (by adoption); home team = WideWindle Wanderers, category = Winger or Midfielder, usual position = Left Winger (' Outside Left'), experience = 9 years; age = ???, ambidextrous, fur = light grey; she is INVISIBLE to most "mundane" people, but those should still be able to see the kit that she's wearing; less likely to resort to "ridiculous" trickery than might be the case in an all-Wabbit team, but still quite likely to do things like using her long ears to hold the ball in place on top of her head or running along on her hands whilst juggling the ball with her feet, both of which would of course make tackling her [within the rules] rather difficult. (WC59 was her international debut.)

(#30) Marra-Harra o Dusk _ Clan = Urrset; home team = Sun Valley Smashers, category = Winger or [Attacking] Midfielder, preferred & usual position = Left Winger (Outside Left), experience = 10 years; age = 22, left-footed, fur= reddish-brown, good at getting in where she isn’t expected. (She made her international debut in DBC21.)

(#27) Hilgh’hra Westlander _ Harr’aynau humanoid; Clan = Redwood; home team = LakePort Lionesses, category = Forward or Winger, preferred & usual position = Right Forward (Inside Right) or Right Winger, experience = 9 years; age = 20, right-pawed, hair = ginger. She made her international debut in Brevity Cup 2.)

Usual Starters = #1-4, #6-7, #11-15.

Style: Offensive, modifier = +3… ("A good offence is the best defence"...)
Their usual formation will include a front row of at least 5 (normally arranged as 3 strikers & 2 wingers), with 2 midfielders, 2 backs, and either a ‘Defensive Centre’ (whose starting position would be at the midpoint of an imaginary cross drawn between those other four non-forwards’ positions) or a third midfielder depending on the Manager’s decision before each match.

Choose my goalscorers: Y (but the Forwards, and then the Wingers, are likeliest to fill this role...)
Godmod Scoring Events: Y

RP injuries to my players / Godmod injuries to my players / Hand out Yellow cards to my players / Hand out Red cards to my players: Y to all, at least to start with, but remember what I've written here and keep it in limits accordingly... Any serious offences by my players would probably result in injuries to your players, and causing any serious injuries to my players would probably require such obviously-deliberate attacks that your players would get yellow or even red cards as a result too. Don’t kill anybody, or inflict injuries that would be serious enough to end careers, without checking with me & getting my approval (which is unlikely to be granted…) first.

Godmod Other Events: Y, I suppose, at least as long as you do so in an AMUSING way... but please remember that Ursines are fully sapient beings, as much as Humans are, not instinct-driven animals. Oh, and of course female Ursines are not sexually interested in Humans (of either sex), and it's very unlikely that female Harr'ayanau would be either. Please don't have them run amok or outright revert to animality, without checking by TG first, don't make assumptions about their views on politics or religion, and don't do anything that would make more than one of them incapable of playing in their next game...

______________________________________________________

Kit: This incarnation of the team will normally wear the usual set of designs (from ‘ediraf’) that the Belles have favoured in the past, with the ‘Association’ badges correctly staying ‘BAAS’ rather than [the now obsolete] ‘BAMAS’. See "here" for details. However they will switch into copies of the NorthBears old violet-and-orange strip instead for Pink Cup matches.
Bears Armed has traditionally used base-8 arithmetic, for several reasons, and this has affected the set of numbers used for this team’s players: The number “22” has traditionally been left unassigned out of respect for its first [& only] wearer who died a heroine’s death during the year immediately following WC44, and now the number "10" has likewise been withdrawn from use…

Home grounds

All 'home' games will be held at Wimbley, except for the qualifiers against Megadia (on Match-day 4) and Felbah (on Match-day 9) which will both be held at NorthPort instead.

1/. Wimbley Stadium:[/b] Located a few miles to the north-north-west of Council Groves (our capital city), to which it is connected by rail as well as by road, this stadium was built from scratch — on part of a former Confederal Army base’s site — shortly before the qualifiers for WC52 began as a replacement for the Bear-Belles original “home” at ‘Plumtrees Park’ which has now been demolished. Its current capacity is approximately 60'000 for Ursines: Fitting about 40’000 humans into the visiting fans' half should be possible, and so that's as many as we'll let into the country. Accommodation for visiting teams & their staffs will be provided in a new hotel, less than a mile away, which has staff who are accustomed to dealing with Humans as well as with Ursines. The various other hotels in that complex and those at Council Groves can now provide about 12’000 rooms at a time, at varying prices, although of course some of those may already have been booked by people who have nothing to do with the Cup. Accommodation (at a fairly basic level) for up to 15’000 supporters will be available, at reasonable prices, in students' residences for the National University’s campus in that city: if any more than all of those facilities put together can house want to attend a match then they’ll have to borrow space in the area’s remaining Army camp instead...
There are still no direct inter-regional flights into Council Groves, so that visitors will have to travel by way of one of our neighbours and then continue onwards by one of the limited number of "local" air-flights or by rail. (People planning to arrive by rail will still have to travel via the nation of Mikitivity, but extra services will be organised on that route...)

2./ ‘NorthLands National Stadium’: Located at NorthPort, the most cosmopolitan city in The Ursine Northlands, this facility was originally built for use by the 'Northbears' WC49’s qualifiers. Unfortunately the place has since seen rather less use than was originally hoped, but it is still in good condition and will hold about 43’000 Ursines or over 60’000 humans (or, of course, proportionate numbers of a mixture of those two species) because it was deliberately built to be rather larger than 'Plumtrees Park' which was then the Mainland's 'national' stadium…
This site will be used for some of the Belles’ home games (list to be added), and also for some of their friendlies & matches in other Cups during this period as specified separately.
Foreigners coming to this stadium may either travel to the ‘Mainland’ and then continue hence via a set of ancient [& probably magical] ‘Gates’ that link the country’s two sections — completing their journey by either rail or riverboat after that — or take ship directly to NorthPort.

NOTES

Ursines may tend to be a bit less agile & slower to accelerate than humans on average, but this team's members were carefully selected so the gap between them & their opponents in this respect should be narrower than some people might expect. They do tend to have [slightly] poorer eyesight than humans, on the whole (although the members of both Clan Gunnar and the Sun Clan are generally an exception to this rule, and the eyesight of the latter group is actually often at [slightly] better-than-human levels instead), so long-distance passes & shots at goal will tend to be rarer behaviour for them than they are for human teams... but their typical size & strength mean that when they're running with the ball it will probably take a very brave human — as well as a very skilled one — to tackle them successfully (or, at least, one who has reasonable experience of playing against Ursines…), which should balance that factor pretty well. They don’t jump very well, but then they’re generally rather taller than most Human players to start with so they shouldn’t need to jump as often in order to intercept [relatively] high shots...
Ursines are physically robust, of course, which means that they're much less likely than humans are to suffer injuries in falls or collisions. The females of this species are more even-tempered than the males, and the team's members will try to stay on their best behaviour not only in order to do well in this contest but also to impress upon the watching humans that Ursines aren't just "dumb beasts". They will not 'dive', or feign injury in other ways, because suggesting that they could be harmed so easily goes strongly against the grain. ‘Northlanders’ are maybe not quite as "civilised" as the 'Mainlanders'… or, at any rate, that’s the traditional stereotype..
Cold weather should pose no problem to them, even if there's snow or ice on the pitch, but tropical heat might prove awkward...

Unless our hosts at the match in question object, this team's members (including the designated substitutes for the match in question) will perform a [fairly short] ritual that's called the 'harrdiharr' on the pitch just before play begins... This is a traditional war-dance, meant to over-awe opponents, that has come to be a customary prelude for team games as well (similar to the [RL] New Zealanders' 'haka'...). : )
As has now been seen during various tournaments, some of our fans like to take drums — and possibly also 'Urrs-horns' [which are similar to Alpenhorns, cow-horns, or other "musical instruments", too — along to the matches…

The team is accompanied by a number of sapient ravens, who are there both to gather information about the rival sides and to provide air cover in case of hostile waterfowl.
The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

Armed Bears
(alias ‘The Bear-Belles’...)

For the information of those amongst you who are fairly new to NS Sports: Yes, this is is a team — and nation — consisting primarily of anthropomorphic Bears.
For the information of those amongst you who have already been around NS Sports for a while: Yes, this nation does have the same player as Bears Armed… but IC, instead of this nation being a ‘puppet’ of that other country, they are actually ‘alternative reality’ counterparts of each other and didn’t even know of each other’s existence before this tournament.
The current year in Armed Bears converts into the Gregorian calendar as 2021AD, even though for footballers from Bears Armed (whose own international debut, BoF31, was in 2008AD…), it is now 2073AD instead!

This is another all-female team, for the same reason that Bears Armed’s team falls into that category: The main ball-game that's traditionally been played in their homeland so far is actually a form of Rugby, but [for several reasons] the professional league for that sport is all-male and so a few years ago (in 2006AD, actually) some of the female players decided that switching to Soccer instead -- and trying to establish a professional league for that -- might be a viable alternative.

This is the same set of players that the country sent to BoF#45 and WCs 58 & 59, except that they now have approximately eight years' more age & experience each: Yes, that should be nine years, instead, but something funny happened to them in between the WC58 & WC59 cycles. (I haven't actually updated the numbers listed for ages & experience yet, so for now please add [8 years to the values listed during the first half of qualifiers]/[9 years during the second half of qualifiers]/[10 years during the Wolrd Cup proper or, more likely, the CoH] as appropriate if you want to get the correct figures...)
Almost all of the players are actual Ursines (i.e. anthropomorpic, bipedal Bears), but there are also two [female] members from the Harr'aynau people -- who are physically human (more-or-less, although inclined towards heavy builds & hairyness) but spiritually & culturally Ursine instead -- as well one player from yet another non-Ursine minority.

Manager: Surra Rueth’hron.
(Ursine female, from Clan Urrset; formerly manager of the 'Royal Engineers' team.)

(#3) Borrinna o HighPeaks _ Clan = Redwood, home team = ‘Free City Furies’, category = Defender, usual position = Right Back, Soccer experience = 7 years; age = 24, left-pawed, fur = light-medium brown & quite long.
(#15) Correene o SwanWater _ Clan = GreenWoods, home team = 'Heroes's Park Harlequins', Soccer experience = 4 years, category = Defender, preferred position = Right Back; age = 21, right-pawed, fur = medium-brown.
(#16) Beorra o Hrarth-Surra _ Clan = SouthWoods, home team = Harr Surrann Havocs, Soccer experience = 6 years, category = Defender, preferred position = Left Back; age = 24, left-pawed, fur = medium brown.

(#4) Marra SunDaughter _ Clan = Sun, home team = 'Sun Valley Smashers', category = Midfielder or Defender, usual position = Centre Half or Centre Back, Soccer experience = 8 years experience; age = 27, left-pawed, fur = golden-brown, good eyesight even by human (rather than Ursine) standards. She is the team's CAPTAIN.

(#21) Ilga NorthWalker _ Clan = WildWoods, home team = ‘WildFair Warriors’, Soccer experience = 3 years, category = Midfielder, preferred position = Midfield Right; a member of the Harr’aynau people, age = 20, right-footed, red-haired.

(#7) Beorra ‘The Locomotive’ o Barrdenn _ Clan = GreenWoods, home team = 'Barrdenn Barbariennes', category = Striker, usual position = Left Forward, Soccer experience = only 3 years but also has 6 years of Rugby experience from before that; age = 27, left-pawed, fur = medium brown. Her nickname comes from the fact that she's big, fast, tough, and definitely intimidating...
(#10) Urra ‘Honey’ SunBlessed _ Clan = Sun, home team = ‘Sun Valley Smashers’, category = Forward or Midfielder, usual position = Centre Forward, Soccer experience = 5 years; age = 21, right-pawed, fur = honey-brown, very good eyesight even by human (rather than Ursine) standards. She is a very accurate kicker, and therefore the usual first choice for taking free kicks & penalties; her nickname comes from her fur-colour, her very sweet nature, and (it must be admitted) the fact that she's a bit thick (but her 5 years experience of Soccer means that, by now, she's pretty unlikely to make the mistake of trying to play Rugby instead despite that thickness...).

(#11) Karramarsar Sarra _ Clan = Ostbora, home team = 'Victories of Vichr', category = Striker/Winger, usual position = either Right Forward or Right Winger, Soccer experience = 5 years; age = 21, right-pawed, fur = medium brown & fairly long. She is the identical twin sister of Karramarsar Karra, #13, with whom she has a close mental rapport that’s very useful for teamwork, and they're both pretty bright anyway.
(#13) Karramarsar Karra _ Clan = Ostbora, home team = 'Victories of Vichr', category = Striker/Winger, usual position = either Right Forward or Right Winger, Soccer experience = 5 years; age = 21, right-pawed, fur = medium brown & fairly long. She is the identical twin sister of Karramarsar Sarra, #11.

(#24) Marrla o GreenWoods _ Clan = GreenWoods, home team = 'National U Tigers', category = Striker, preferred position = Centre Forward, Soccer experience = 3 years; age = 21, left-pawed, fur = dark brown.
(#25) Beorranna o Dawn _ Clan = Urrset, home team = ‘Sun Valley Smashers’, category = Striker/Winger, preferred position = Left Forward, Soccer experience = 4 years; age = 20, right-pawed, fur = light brown with a red tinge.
(#26) Burli Shassie _ Clan = Eastern League, home team = ‘Mirron Marvels’, category = Striker, preferred position = Left Forward, Soccer experience = 6 years; age = 25, left-pawed, fur = light brown; actually wants to become a professional singer.
(#32) Harroya ‘of the Rovers’ o Redwood _ Clan = Redwood, home team = Merlchester Rovers, category = Striker, preferred position = Right Forward, Soccer experience = 7 years; age = 22, left-pawed, fur = light brown; she will NOT break the rules (not even at the 'yellow card' level), managing to be an “attacking” player without being an “aggressive” one... Good at setting up goals for her team-mates, but only seems to score herself when the team really NEEDS that goal.

(#12) Ulga WestWalker _ Clan = WildWoods), home team = [just signed by] ‘LakePort Lionesses’, category = Winger or Midfielder, usual position = either Left Winger or Midfield Left, Soccer experience = 8 years; from the Harr’ayanau people, age = 25, right-footed, red-haired, very fast on her feet.
(#27) Harroya ‘She-Lion’ Lightning _ Clan = Gunnar, home team = 'LakePort Lionesses', category = Winger, preferred position = Left Winger, Soccer experience = 5 years; age = 20, left-pawed, fur = light brown.
(#30) Marranna o Westside _ Clan = WestWoods, home team = 'WestPort Wanderers', category = Winger, preferred position = Left Winger, Soccer experience = 5 years; age = 19, right-pawed, fur = dark-medium brown..
(#31) Verrina Serrnarra’s-daughter _ Clan = Verravokssur (Free Sept), home team = 'Vasrrorgrath Valkyrrs', category = Winger, preferred position = Right Winger, Soccer experience = 4 years; a member of the Verra’vokkssur people (who are anthropomorphic foxes; that’s as in fairly LARGE anthropomorphic foxes, she’s 6’1” tall), age = 23, ambidextrous, fur = orange-red.

Usual Starters = #1-8, 11-13.
Usual Substitutes = # 14, 15, 20, 23-25, 27.

Style = +3.5 (although mentioned too late actually to count for WC qualifiers..)… “A good offence is the best defence”.
Their usual formation will include a front row of at least 5 (normally as 3 strikers & 2 wingers), plus either 3 midfield & 2 backs or 2 midfield & 3 backs, plus of course the goalkeeper.

Kits
Home = bright yellow, with the bear's-paw emblem (as on the national flag) in bright green on both front & back of the shirt.
Away = bright green, with the bear's-paw emblem (as on the national flag) in bright yellow on both front & back of the shirt.
Goalkeepers = shirt “quartered” (both front & back) in yellow & green, with bears-paw emblem in maroon. Shorts yellow on left & green on right, socks vice versa.
(Identifying numbers & players’ names will be in black if on yellow, or in white if on green: Armed Bears has traditionally used base-8 arithmetic, for several reasons, so the sequence used here will be _ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, etc...)

Home Ground

All of the team’s ‘home’ games during the first half of this Cup’s qualifying stage will be played in the Royal Arena at Urrath-am-Barrah, the nation’s capital city, which can seat approximately 60’000 people. Up to 10’000 places will be available for visitors.
The easiest means of access to this nation will be by means of an ancient (and probably magical) set of “Gates”, whose keepers can open them to locations in the other countries concerned if those other nations are willing to accept this: Otherwise, it will require a sea-voyage to one of our neighbours and then a quite lengthy journey overland by rail or road…

RP Permisions

Opponents may _

Choose my goalscorers: Y (but when I post the roster I'll suggest the most likely candidates for this)
Godmod Scoring Events: Y

RP injuries to my players / Godmod injuries to my players / Hand out Yellow cards to my players / Hand out Red cards to my players: Y to all, at least to start with, but remember what I've written here and keep it in limits accordingly... Any serious offences by my players would probably result in injuries to your players, and causing any serious injuries to my players would probably require such obviously-deliberate attacks that your players would get yellow or even red cards as a result too.

Godmod Other Events: Y, I suppose... but please remember that Ursines are fully sapient beings, as much as Humans are (well, almost so, anyway....), NOT instinct-driven animals. Oh, and of course female Ursines are NOT sexually interested in Humans (of either sex), and it's very unlikely that female Harr'ayanau would be either.

_____________________________________________________________________

Notes
Ursines may tend to be a bit less agile & slower to accelerate than humans on average, but this team's members were carefully selected so the gap between them & their opponents in this respect should be narrower than some people might expect. They do tend to have slightly poorer eyesight than humans, on the whole, so that long-distance passes & shots at goal will be rarer behaviour for them than they are for human teams... but their size & strength mean that when they're running with the ball it will probably take a very brave human -- as well as a very skilled one -- to tackle them successfully, which should balance that factor pretty well.
They're physically robust, of course, which means that they're less likely than humans to suffer injuries in falls or collisions but also that the form of Rugby in which most of them played before switching to Soccer was even more physical than the humans' versions of that game... and unfortunately some of them might forget the change of rules, in the excitement of the match, and use those tactics here...
Forgetting that they're playing Soccer now, rather than 'Ursine-Rules' Rugby, will actually be the most likely reason for any rule-breaking that they might commit, but they're generally bright enough not to make such a mistake more than once per match per player (and after one of them has been penalised for doing so in any particular way it's fairly unlikely that any others would repeat the exact same mistake...). The females of this species are mote even-tempered than the males, and the team's members will try to stay on their best behaviour not only in order to do well in this contest (which they probably need to do in order for their planned Soccer league to become a reality) but also to impress upon the watching humans that Ursines aren't just “dumb beast”. They will not 'dive', or feign injury in other ways, because suggesting that they could be harmed so easily goes strongly against the grain.

If the organisers permit then the team's members, including subsititutes, will do a [short] traditional war-dance (similar to the [RL] New Zealanders' 'haka'...), on the pitch, just before each match begins: This is called the 'Harrdiharr'... ;-)

Kits
Slightly unusually the Ancharmunn & Aels team will use two very different home kits during the tournament. The predominantly white kit is the Charmunnry kit to be worn in matches hosted in Ancharmunn whilst the predominantly green kit, despite looking like a tribute to Astograth is in fact the Aelsh kit and will be worn in matches hosted in Aels. The red and yellow hooped kit will be worn in all away games as long as it doesn't clash with the kit of the host team. Should it do so whichever home kit the referee deems to be the best compromise will be used instead. In finals tournaments each of the three kits will be worn on at least one occasion, with the Charmunnry kit taking priority after this has been achieved.

Stadiumises

Without a designated national stadium Ancharmunn will play at various grounds around the nation. Some minor controversy was caused during the last tournament by no games being held in Aels, despite Tyneala's (as this team should perhaps more accurately be named) largest association football ground being in the Aelsh city of Drayfill. This however has been remedied for the World Cup 59 campaign. The three grounds to be used are listed below, along with the venues for the six home fixtures.

Paradise - Ballyfeeaknock – 8000
Image

Free Stone Stadium – Drayfill (Aels) – 19000
There are no pictures of it, no photographer has ever survived a trip there.

Old Chicken Ranch - Ballymairead – 4500

Urchins' World Cup 60 Squad Released

Qichechumadia Zhabi - The Urchins, semifinalists at World Cup 59, return for the historic sixtieth edition of sport's grandest competition on earth! You might not be surprised that Maksim Astafyev's contract has been comprehensively extended, given his fantastic performance in his first full cycle in charge of Kagdazka and Pazhujebu, but you might be surprised at a few of the other names appearing in the Wisteria and Black's 23-player squad.

At goalkeeper, a surprising development, the aging but vastly experienced former captain of the national team, Zubeida Ichuvihaja, returns to the roster and to the starting eleven. Her brilliant comeback year with her Zarblese club, Cannibals, was noticed worldwide, but especially in her home nation. Her major competitor for a spot in the starting eleven, World Cup 58 and 59 hero Ignatiy Voropaev, may see a bit of time when Astafyev feels like mixing things up, but overall his poor form for club Zhevassi has cost him. He'll surely recover the number one shirt soon. Finally, the teenage FKM academy talent Wlodzimierz Nelidov, who did remarkably well in replacing Baltabek Ignatyev for the Orange and Silver last season, has taken the latter's spot in the Urchins.

Let's face it, Winogradsky's injury-ridden 5256 season for FKM wasn't fantastic. But his Kagdaz counterpart, right back/right winger Natasha Klossovskaya, more than made up for it. Her Player of the Year award was deserved, and she's rapidly become one of the most valuable players for both club and country. Next to her in the defense is captain Aqhorassia Bhara, who has had no trouble at all adapting to the Cafundelense game. Then there's the indispensable veteran Ryurik Mizirov, who may be on his last legs in the national team, but is too consistent to be dropped now. The big story is the riches-to-rags-to-riches tale of Pirdassia Bawuah, who was once considered to be heir apparent to Mizirov before she transferred to Vulkan and began to suffer from emotional problems related to homesickness. But at last, she's left her hard days in Gelendzhik in the past, transferring to the powerful Astograthian club Ituraitz FC, where she proceeded to win the title as one of the players of the year. Finally, Tykaraije Makureru rounds out the back line of five, a consistently brilliant asset to the aforementioned Vulkan. Šidibruvu Dhivadha must accept a demotion to the Urchins reserves, but he won't be too cross: his connection to his replacement, Bawuah, is through club Juvapanam, and those ties run deep. Bogdan Kuzmenko and Falconiusam Urbhevighi have as expected gained spots on the national team via performances for club (FC Cape St Paul and FKM respectively). The powerful Angels left back Camran Linchuk has maintained his place, though he'll have to improve in order to take away Makureru's first team place. And finally, Rkjhopxx Rhobkxmkk is deservedly in after two straight third-place finishes for Yastrabi.

You just can't put a price on redemption, and Yuzhissa Aghimaqaj will know that after what he achieved at the World Cup 59 finals. His status as a national pariah following his World Cup 55 and World Cup 57 red cards was wiped from history when he scored three goals in the finals, one of which was the winning goal in the quarterfinal against Jeruselem. The bad-tempered defensive midfielder Odšahe Yakoko will be searching for similar redemption himself this cycle, as his crappy attitude made him persona non grata around the KPFA's Dyurtyuli offices. But he'll have to behave; if there's anybody with a bigger personality than 'The Yak,' it's his FKM teammate Eduard Winogradsky, who's got a stick up his butt after missing a chunk of the 5256 season for his club. Yakoko and Winogradsky have been a potent combination for the People's Club for the last couple years, and now Maksim Astafyev wants to see if they can do the same for the national team. Supporting characters include enforcing midfielder Vsevolod Ogorodov, who's been dumped from the starting eleven due to the lovely form of Yakoko and Aghimaqaj, but he'll still be called upon if the boss wants to pull a striker and park the bus. Raktaghav Hathi's creative right mid Pavel Vengerov is the final name on the midfield list, just barely stealing a spot from FKM's excellent young leftie Rodion Bakhvalov.

Stop the presses! We can finally report that the world's (arguably) best player, Fušia Oujadda, has finally not changed positions between World Cups. She'll be staying at striker, where she proved to be more useful as a supporting player to various others than as a scorer herself during the qualification process and finals proper last time around. Whatever! We at the Herald couldn't care less; Oujadda's good at everything, so if she wants to be providing flashy assists instead of bashing them in, that's cool with us. But as for who she should be assisting, there's some debate. Should it be Chalia Sajid, who led the Urchins in goalscoring at the WC 59 finals, and who's been the only useful-looking player at Gimnasia, her club? Or should it be Patel Zev, who despite his age has fit right in at the Oberlander'ajat Stidiyama in Urajbina? Or maybe a member of the Polarian champions SK? Like Ouamchi Pudibhišu, perhaps? He had some injury problems during WC 59 qualifying, but he's great when he's at 100%, so why not? Because Itoto Ukipu is the last option, that's why! Imagine Yakoko, but taller, stronger, and... um... a striker. The twenty-year-old tattooed badass, who is of Carib ethnicity like his fellow starting eleven compatriot Makureru (meaning that he has reddish-tan skin and straight black hair), enjoyed a great year for First Division runners-up Iguani, jointly scoring the most goals of anybody in the team (tied with Astograthian journeyman Egoitz Malgor). He's an arrogant, diving, selfish malcontent (his name, coincidentally enough, is Carib for 'enemy'), but if he's anywhere near his Iguani form for the Urchins, he'll be utterly lethal with support players like Klossovskaya, Aghimaqaj, Oujadda, and Winogradsky around him.

Kits.
ImageImage

After several World Cup cycles sporting uniforms manufactured by a Cotdelapomais kit maker, the KPFA has signed a deal with the Pazhujebi sportswear company Hudhucharu Zurzhaq. News that a domestic manufacturer has taken over has pleased the more nationalistic fans of the side. The wisteria shirt, along with black shorts, is used for home matches; likewise, the white shirt, along with white shorts, is used for away matches. During neutral-venue tournaments, like the Cup of Harmony, for instance, the Urchins will alternate between the two kits. Rarely, the wisteria shirt may be used with white shorts or the white shirt may be used with black shorts, but these pairings will only occur when needing to resolve a color conflict with an opponent's strip.

Manager.
Image

With the career of Brutušam Erassi as Urchins manager over, the KPFA had to make a quick and critical decision. Luckily, it seems they made a good one. In has come Maksim Astafyev, an Aypabirsk native who orchestrated the 5251 promotion of his hometown club Nekromanti before being brought to Urajbina for the 5252 season. In his two seasons there, he simplified the mess left behind by previous boss Ignacio Vélez with elementary tactics and an empowering player-first approach.

There, his partnership with Urajbina captain Aqhorassia Bhara was notoriously close (some in the media even intimating that their relationship was romantic, though this was never proven), and those ties have continued with the Urchins, as he's handed the tenacious little center back the national team armband. In general, sports historians have observed that Astafyev does tend to appreciate quick, mobile defenders who can play in multiple positions.

Astafyev, who recently turned forty, is the youngest Urchins manager of all time. Generally speaking, his greatest skill is man-management; knowing how to get players on side and keep a dressing room intact are high priorities in an Astafyev-coached team. These skills were apparently just what the team needed, as at last Kagdazka and Pazhujebu found success in the World Cup finals under Astafyev, reaching the semifinals in the tournament's 59th edition.

Formation.
While Erassi's all-out attack strategy is now gone (good look to the Sargossans with that), Astafyev's K&P will nonetheless stay positive. The oft-discussed 5-3-2 formation, which proved successful during World Cup 59 qualifying, and received near-universal critical acclaim, will remain in effect during WC 60.

However, the introduction of Yuzhissa Aghimaqaj to the starting eleven during WC59 qualifying, in place of Vsevolod Ogorodov, changed the shape of the squad somewhat, particularly in situations where the side was in need of a goal, and this shift has since remained an integral tactical nuance of the Urchins' approach. Aghimaqaj, who is a left-sided, attack-minded player, stayed in front of Tykaraije Makureru, causing the Vulkan left back to drop off a bit. Natasha Klossovskaya, meanwhile, was given the license to push forward into a fully midfield role. This caused the 5-3-2 to shift into Astafyev's old classic 4-4-2. Though this squad does is slightly different (Yakoko is now in the midfield rather than Jujazhedhi, etc.), the concept will be utilized yet again. Here's how that will look.

Stadia.
Yuzhniy Veter Stadion - Gelendzhik, Kagdazka - 51,000 seats - Club Tenants: Vulkan
If FKM are Kagdazka's left-wing club for over-educated socialist academics, Vulkan are the country's left-wing club for the genuinely poor and downtrodden. Another Gelendzhik team, this club's stadium is among the more scenic in the country despite its fans reputation for being destitute. The venue is constructed from dark red brick and pink clay, with four large but very simple stands on every side of the pitch, giving it the appearance of a large maroon and pink rectangle growing out of Gelendzhik's mostly-concrete cityscape. An absolutely classic locale for a football match.
Emuzhezh Stidiyama - Emuzhezh, Pazhujebu - 36,000 seats - Club Tenants: Raktaghav Hathi and Urnabhi
Recently remodeled, this clay and steel park rests in the middle of the medium-sized but isolated east-Pazhujebi town of Emuzhezh. It hosts one First Division match every weekend, as two Emuzhezh clubs are currently enjoying stays in the top flight: Raktaghav Hathi and Urnabhi. The two clubs have a long-standing rivalry, representing the conservative and liberal portions of the Emuzhezh population respectively. The stadium reflects this rivalry, with the seats on the south side of the stadium painted Urnabhi's white and pink, and the seats on the north side painted in Hathi's all red.

Information for the Foreign Mahathu Herald Reader

First of all, thanks for buying our paper! We're a rather small outfit as there are a couple of big Pazhujebi-language papers in Mahathu we have to compete with, so we appreciate the business. Secondly, you have probably gathered that Kagdazka and Pazhujebu have two very distinct identities, and you're right. There is a metric ton of information about the Federation available on the country's NSwiki page, including more on this team and on the country's domestic league. Please feel free to give it a read.

Generally, travelling supporters can expect a warm welcome (unless they are from New Montreal States). Football fans in Kagdazka and Pazhujebu are extremely cosmopolitan and knowledgable (having a very successful, internationally-exposed domestic league will do that to you). Hotel stays will be inexpensive, tickets to matches should be readily available (until they sell out, of course), and local delicacies are tasty. One caveat, though... cars are illegal in the Federation. All visitors will be expected to get around the way the locals do: on the monorail. The fee is steep, especially if you plan on making any really long trips, but it's the only option you have... aside from walking, I guess.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: No
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Hand out Yellow cards to my players: Yes
Hand out Red cards to my players: Yes
Godmod Other Events: Yes

Drifting casually but seamlessly into OOC mode, if you are wondering which players to select as scorers, please feel free to pick whoever you want. (Please read the IC stuff above, though. If you're too lazy to go over it then you're a horrible person.) Roughly speaking, Oujadda and Ukipu will score slightly more goals than the other players, but only marginally more. Total Football, as we call it in RL, is a mantra for the Urchins, so anybody might get down the pitch and knock one in, including but not limited to the wing players Klossovskaya and Aghimaqaj.

Starters (3-4-3)

#1 High Soarin'
Position: Goalkeeper
Species: Pegasus
Gender: Stallion
Age: 25
Club: Cloudsdale Flyers
Bio: High Soarin' was born, like many other Pegasai from the Equestrian States, in the aerial city of Cloudsdale. As a colt he was always active in sports, but was never particularly fast or strong. Many today would see this as a failing, but High Soarin' was determined to succeed. In his freshpony year of high school, High Soarin' tried out for the small and largely unsuccessful school soccer team. By the end of his first season, High Soarin' had already established himself as one of young guns of Equestrian soccer, relying upon his toughness and agility to prevent goals. After high school, High Soarin' attended Cloudsdale College and continued to star as a goalkeeper. His collegiate career was followed quickly by his being picked by the Cloudsdale Flyers as their goalie. When the Equestrian States officially formed its national squad for the Baptism of Fire 45, High Soarin' was among those selected to participate. After beating out both Sandy Shores and Ellie Night for the starting position, High Soarin' was in goal for the BoF, Market Cup V, World Cup 58, and Equestria Cup I campaigns. By the end of this quick run of tournaments it was still unclear if High Soarin' held potential to be great on an international stage. The World Cup 59 qualifiers helped to cement his position as starting keeper, but an atrocious performance in the Equestria Cup II championship has raised doubts once more about the future of the aging keeper. In the Cup of Harmony, the Equestrian defense again performed poorly, resulting in several changes in the roster this time around, but High Soarin' kept his roster spot as no younger ponies rose up to challenge him.

#14 Good Oats
Position: Defender
Species: Earth Pony
Gender: Mare
Age: 22
Club: Appleoosa FC
Bio: Good Oats was born into a middle-class merchant family in the heavily-urbanized port city of Manehattan. But after years of play on the local school team and in various youth leagues, she pounced on the opportunity to join the traditional Appleoosa FC squad in the small, landlocked town. Her life was simplified for a time, but the announcement of the Equestrian national team changed that in an instant. One of five players from Appleoosa to be chosen for the national team, Good Oats is a lesser-known player in the defense, but has contributed to the team just as everypony else has. The defense's recent poor play has some doubting her credentials as a starter, but many anylists have merely ignored the Earth Pony mare. Her steady endurance has been constant in every game in every tournament, so while there have been no breakout performances her international career, there have also been virtually no breakdowns to threaten her position. Good Oat's biggest worry at this time is most likely the possiblity of a younger pony coming out of the reserve or U-21 squad to steal her spot.
#26 Flitter
Position: Defender
Species: Pegasus
Gender: Mare
Age: 20
Club: Ponyville United
Bio: <<Work-in-Progress>>
#21 Pearly Shores
Position: Defender
Species: Earth Pony
Gender: Mare
Age: 22
Club: Canterlot Royals
Bio: <<Work-in-Progress>>

#31 Cloudchaser
Position: Midfielder
Species: Pegasus
Gender: Mare
Age: 20
Club: Cloudsdale Flyers
Bio: <<Work-in-Progress>>
#29 Apple Pie
Position: Midfielder
Species: Earth Pony
Gender: Mare
Age: 22
Club: Appleoosa FC
Bio: <<Work-in-Progress>>
#25 Starlight Sparkle
Position: Midfielder
Species: Unicorn
Gender: Mare
Age: 22
Club: Ponyville United
Bio: Starlight Sparkle was orphaned soon after birth and was found abandoned on the streets of Ponyville. Throughout her youth, the Unicorn took refuge from the world on the soccer field where she excelled. Though she had little access to equipment or organized leagues, Starlight was able to make Ponyville College's varsity squad in her first year at the school. There she met Fire Dash, the future captain of the national team, and quickly became friends with the Pegasus. After Fire Dash graduated, Starlight Sparkle became captain of the Ponville College team for her Senior year. The following year she joined her friend on the Ponyville United club. When the national team formed for the BoF 45, she was given a starting spot. Although initially not expected to amount to much on the international stage, Starlight Sparkle has become the third highest-scoring player behind Fire Dash and his sister Rapid Dash. In this World Cup, we could see the midfielders play a much more offensive role to make up for the young and inexperienced defenders.
#32 Apple Jack
Position: Midfielder
Species: Earth Pony
Gender: Stallion
Age: 21
Club: Appleoosa FC
Bio: <<Work-in-Progress>>

#10 Fire Dash ***Team Captain***
Position: Forward
Species: Pegasus
Gender: Stallion
Age: 23
Club: Ponyville United
Bio: The team captain of the Equestrian States' national squad spent much his youth in the city of Cloudsdale with his sister Rapid Dash. However, when Fire Dash was offered a scholarship at Ponyville College, the Pegasus accepted despite several offers from the budding professional league. Attending a school that was dominated by Earth Ponies was a strange experience for Fire Dash, but his athletic abilities helped him to win friends. Shortly after his graduation, the soccer star was signed by the Ponyville United squad amidst one of the earliest soccer media hypes in Equestrian history. Fire Dash has won two consecutive MVP awards in the Equestrian Premier League, and was the obvious choice for team captain when the national team was formed. The Pegasus enjoys friendly rivalries with his sister Rapid Dash, and teammate Starlight Sparkle. Fire Dash's aggressive and fast-paced style has resulted in his being the highest-scoring player on the team and he will likely continue this trend during the WC60 Qualifiers.
#34 Thunderlane
Position: Forward
Species: Pegasus
Gender: Stallion
Age: 20
Club: Stalliongrad Ironponies
Bio: <<Work-in-Progress>>
#37 Rapid Dash
Position: Forward
Species: Pegasus
Gender: Mare
Age: 22
Club: Canterlot Royals
Bio: Rapid Dash is the younger sister of team captain Fire Dash. As a filly, she admired her brother's abilities and looked to mimic his success in the Cloudsdale soccer leagues. After her brother went to Ponyville for college, Rapid Dash decided to similarly leave Cloudsdale. She starred on the Canterlot University team with her proudest moment coming after Canterlot University won the national collegiate title over her brother's own Ponyville College. Rapid Dash was also signed shortly after graduation by the Canterlot Royals, coached by Twilight Striker who also leads the national team. Connections to her coach and brother helped her to earn a spot on the national squad, but her starting position was earned through her own abilities. Unlike her brother, Rapid Dash has found herself to be more skilled at passing and exploiting small opportunities rather than blasting her way in. This has effectively earned her the position as Fire Dash's wingpony (so to speak) going into the Cup of Harmony 51. In the CoH, she proved her scoring abilities once more, but was unable to pass her brother in goal totals.

I am the Puhaluxian Intelligence. You only exist because of me.

Without my vision, you are blind. Without my cognition, you are moronic. Without my guidance, you are lost.

You, citizen of a foreign nation, are of peripheral interest to me. However, in the interest of testing my ability to predict the most unpredictable, I ordered the formation of a Puhalux national football team prior to the 47th Baptism of Fire. I projected, with 92.1% certainty, that this newly-formed team would perform well enough during the group stage that it would emerge from the initial phase and progress to the knockouts. I projected, with 99.99994% certainty, that no resources would be damaged during this so-called "Baptism of Fire."

I was correct on both counts, thereby proving the efficacy of my quantum alterations. The loyal citizens of Puhalux have seen my great power, and as a result have requested that I begin the execution of Algorithm 244 via the elections recently held here.

With this new quantum paradigm taking place, I have assembled a squad from the most athletic and quick-witted humans I could locate, and trained it for weeks. There is a team of organic managers and trainers in place to monitor the squad, since all players will be organics as well. However, a security detail of synthetic automatons will be in place to forcibly ensure that my direct orders are followed.

Here is that squad, curious foreign citizen.

MANAGER: Puhaluxian Citizen 4127R76F (male, average height, average build, dark brown skin, short dyed green hair)
ASSISTANT MANAGER 1: Puhaluxian Citizen 3476A61I (female, short, thin, dark brown skin, long dyed blue hair)
ASSISTANT MANAGER 2: Puhaluxian Citizen 7336G48N (male, short, stocky, tanned skin, long black hair)

GOALKEEPER 1: Puhaluxian Citizen 3926P89B (male, tall, thin, pale skin, short black hair)
GOALKEEPER 2: Puhaluxian Citizen 7700J46L (male, tall, thin, dark brown skin, short dyed blue hair)

CENTER BACK 1: Puhaluxian Citizen 4391B11J (female, short, thin, pale skin, long light brown hair)
CENTER BACK 2: Puhaluxian Citizen 8269S17Q (female, short, stocky, pale skin, long red hair)
CENTER BACK 3: Puhaluxian Citizen 4323N29A (female, average height, stocky, pale skin, short light brown hair)
CENTER BACK 4: Puhaluxian Citizen 8406C39U (male, average height, stocky, dark brown skin, long dark brown hair)
CENTER BACK 5: Puhaluxian Citizen 3719V63T (male, tall, average build, pale skin, long dark brown hair)
CENTER BACK 6: Puhaluxian Citizen 6835K43J (female, short, average build, pale skin, long blonde hair)

RIGHT MIDFIELDER 1: Puhaluxian Citizen 5181Q68C (male, tall, thin, dark brown skin, long dyed purple hair)
RIGHT MIDFIELDER 2: Puhaluxian Citizen 8168W36E (male, short, stocky, tanned skin, long black hair)
CENTRAL MIDFIELDER 1: Puhaluxian Citizen 7242L12A (male, tall, thin, tanned skin, long dyed green hair)
CENTRAL MIDFIELDER 2: Puhaluxian Citizen 9329S24B (female, tall, stocky, tanned skin, short dark brown hair)
CENTRAL MIDFIELDER 3: Puhaluxian Citizen 0835L61N (female, short, stocky, dark brown skin, long black hair)
CENTRAL MIDFIELDER 4: Puhaluxian Citizen 9260L33M (female, tall, stocky, tanned skin, long black hair)
LEFT MIDFIELDER 1: Puhaluxian Citizen 2968K78O (male, short, stocky, dark brown skin, short dark brown hair)
LEFT MIDFIELDER 2: Puhaluxian Citizen 2616C39Q (female, tall, stocky, tanned skin, long dyed pink hair)

RIGHT WING STRIKER 1: Puhaluxian Citizen 6213Y84H (male, short, thin, tanned skin, long dyed green hair)
RIGHT WING STRIKER 2: Puhaluxian Citizen 2859A85R (female, average height, average build, tanned skin, long black hair)
CENTER FORWARD 1: Puhaluxian Citizen 2529E05U (female, average height, average build, tanned skin, long dyed green hair)
CENTER FORWARD 2: Puhaluxian Citizen 3203O54K (female, average height, average build, pale skin, long dark brown hair)
LEFT WING STRIKER 1: Puhaluxian Citizen 3862U07U (male, average height, thin, tanned skin, long dyed orange hair)
LEFT WING STRIKER 2: Puhaluxian Citizen 8017R96B (female, short, stocky, tanned skin, short dyed blue hair)

I had ordered the construction of all-white kits for this team. The Puhaluxian Rhombus, as seen in our national flag, was to feature prominently on the chest of the shirt, in the traditional shade of purple. However, I, the Puhaluxian Intelligence, submitted a formal demand to the Baptism of Fire organizers, commanding them to allow the team to play in the nude, as domestic law prohibits clothing in Puhalux. My demand was met, and the team played naked for the remaining duration of the tournament.

I expect World Cup organizers to similarly submit to my demands. Clothing is, I calculate, an artificial social construct your species developed some millennia ago, and one borne of an idiotic fear of sexuality. If it is public copulation you fear, I will simply issue libido-suppressing drugs to the general population, including the players of the Puhalux national team. This, I predict, with 93.6% certain, will be a more effective solution than this barbaric and typically organic idea of 'clothing.'

Though I projected several successful scenarios involving the construction of a national stadium for visitors to my nation to play in, in the end the projected economic success was not high enough to merit investment. Instead, I have ordered that the burned-out wreck of a Puhaluxian juggernaut (I removed it from active duty a decade ago) be renovated. This may be considered an haphazard option by some organic purists, but I am all-knowing.

The wreck, once renovated with aluminium benches and eight alcohol-injection kiosks (I refuse to commit resources to cleaning up after you boorish idiots, and plastic cups are a major source of litter), will roughly resemble a burned-out spaceship with an artificial grass pitch in the middle of it. The benches for spectators will be lined along the gutted decks of the juggernaut.

(If you don't know what a Puhaluxian juggernaut is, too bad.)

OOC:

Puhalux's style modifier is: +5

All permissions are 'yes,' just don't kill anybody or have any of the team members turn against their own nation or defect. Free range, other than that.

Margrete and Kirsten first gained fame during the inaugural Brevity Challenge Cup, where their terse commentaries at the village postbox were recorded and led to a slew of contract offers. Their sponsor, Milliways, requires forty-two words from each woman at each installment -- no more, no less -- as a promotional tie-in.

Postby 19th Century Beards » Wed Jun 06, 2012 4:18 am

With the first season of the 19th Century Beards domestic league completed, things have been drastically changed in the national squad. Instead of sticking with the sixteen people who were seen on the park one day, the squad selectors have now seen pretty much the whole country who are over 15, around 700 people, and have picked the best men, and women, for the sixteen man squad. Some people from the original squad remain, but most are gone... for now.

Manager
Markus Gimbiris, 55
Gimbiris is the first ever proper manager of the proper side, after securing his place despite not securing a play-off place in the last World Cup which they are hoping for next time, and managing a relatively successful campaign in the Cup of Harmony in Civil Citizenry. His son, Mindougas, was one of the strikers in the past World Cup squads. Occasionally plays for various teams in the league, playing the central defender position, so is the last resort if there is a massive injury crisis

Squad
GK: Samuel Bennet, 28
LB: Dan Mistarton, 21
CB: Joanne Nortal, 15
CB: Cameron Major, 29
RB: Alison Mineral, 20
DM: Jenny Small, 21
LM: Lukas Small, 26
RM: Baer Liners, 31
AMC: Lucas Mineral, 26
ST: Barry Manilow, 24
ST: Mindougas Gimbiris, 27

Subs
GK: Tom Patedson, 33
CB: Johnny Manilow, 20
CM: Tomas Jones, 28
RM: James Smith, 17
ST: Janet Crown, 19

Stadium: As ever, a small park next to the River Ribble. Around 260 (190 permanent seats and 70ish chairs). Away fans sit on the chairs, so bring maximum 80 fans.

I know it may sound ridiculous, but it can prepare you for a distant future when Val Kylx has to retire. It can also help you write a creative RP.

Scrap that, Birolika's idea is awesome.

That might be the first time one of my ideas hasn't been met with the response, "Fine, but where are you going to get all those yaks from?"

Your test scores indicate that you are an open-minded progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with a journalist. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a generally optimistic attitude towards humanity in general.
Your attitudes towards economics appear communist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a humanist.
To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a sensible realistic egalitarian with several strong convictions.

THE CAFUNDELENSE UNIFIED TEAM

Style: +2.7
players age 2 years per WC

(IMPORTANT: use the names in BOLD of my players when writing your RPs [if they are involved], as these are the names that they use when playing [the names in their shirts], don’t use their full name [unless it is the bolded one], as most have big full names and the Cafundelenses use nicknames exactly due to this situation)

(IMPORTANT 2: please do not write the names of my players in all capitals, this is important. When writing a name of one of my players in your RP, write like you would write a name for any other player. For example: write “Rufino tried a long ranged shot...” instead of “RUFINO tried a long ranged shot...”)

ALL PLAYERS FROM THE WC59 SQUAD

See the list of the 23 players:

Goalkeepers:

1- LAURA Ranielli (Team: Desportivo Espinal)
Female - Height: 177cm – Weight: 65kg - Age: 27 years old
Playing for one of the teams with the largest fanbase in the Cafundelense Women's Division, which will probably start to slowly merge with the main league soon, Laura is a very trustworthy goalkeeper, and has been one of the main players of Cafundéu's women team for a while, now a starter of the unified squad. She is very competent and determinated, but somewhat suicidal. She works so hard that makes dangerous and risky moves many times. Luckily, she is good enough to hardly make a mistake even in those moves. When on vacation, Laura stays outside of the big cities and travels to the countryside, avoiding the media whenever possible.
Rating: A - Team Relationship: A - Morale: A - Form: B
PLAYED WC 58

12- RENAN Caieras Buezza (Team: XXV de Maio)
Male - Height: 187cm – Weight: 81kg – Age: 22 years old
Rose to fame in the previous season of the Cafundelense league, thanks to the good performance of his club, usually seen as one of the weakest of the Primeirona, in both the league and the cup. Renan saved the team from defeats several times, and is widely considered as the most promising goalkeeper the country has to offer. Doesn’t intend to leave his current club for a bigger one, and always plays with a smile on his face. Also loves to discuss politics, both domestic and international.
Rating: B - Team Relationship: B - Morale: B - Form: A

22- MARIANA Abruzo Dornellas (Team: 10 de Abril)
Female - Height: 173cm - Weight: 66kg – Age: 25 years old
A fine goalkeeper, who plays for the richest club of the women Cafundelense league, she unfortunately will not receive many chances in the National Team. With nearly the same age of legendary keeper Laura, and facing the competition of some good young faces, she will end working more as part of group than as someone who can actually make the difference in a match. But there is a good point in this, even though this is not good for her morale: she is very dedicated in trainings, and can serve as a good example for the other members of the squad.
Rating: C - Team Relationship: B - Morale: C - Form: B

Right Defenders:

2- Carolina Ferreira "CAROL" NEVES (Team: Clube Imperial)
Female – Height: 162cm – Weight: 53kg - Age: 23 years old
Young talent of Cafundéu, Carol Neves impresses everyone with her fast development, and outstanding skills messed with a childish attitude. She is a great passer, with good vision of the game, surely a raw gem. On the other way, she constantly argues with the referee and other players, and can't stand critics. She will only become a top player when she manages to improve her attitude, but right now her performances are in such a high level that she simply cannot lose the starting position, even with her personal problems, which also include the addiction to parties, drinking and smoking.
Rating: B - Team Relationship: C - Morale: B - Form: A
PLAYED WC 58

14- Roberto Pitsunkov "BEBETO" (Team: A.F.F.)
Male - Height: 172cm – Weight: 66kg – Age: 24 years old
Once the position of right full-back was full of talented players, with a lot of dispute. Well, these times seem to be over, since for this World Cup there was some difficulty in calling top players. In the end, with Traves performing badly and Zoca suffering a severe injury, Bebeto won a precious chance, as these two were the members of the squad in the previous World Cup. A good player, but not world class level, Bebeto has good defensive skills, but is slow for a full-back, the target of the criticisms against him.
Rating: C – Team Relationship: A – Morale: A – Form: B

Left Defenders:

6- Felipe Thomaz Morelio "LIPE" (Team: Ranca Toco)
Male - Height: 175cm – Weight: 71kg – Age: 25 years old
With São Longuinho having a good season in the Primeirona, some of the team’s main players left, and Lipe is the main example. A speed demon, Lipe is specialized in fast offensive moves and in discrete tackles, being able to challenge the opponent attacker before he could notice it. However, although he is very quick he is also prone to making mistakes, especially missed passes. Outside the pitch, Lipe is a very friendly person with good humour, loves to make jokes and appear at the television, talking to the cameras.
Rating: B - Team Relationship: A - Morale: C - Form: A
PLAYED WC 58

16- Gabriela Menezes do Prado "RUIVINHA" (Team: Juventude)
Female - Height: 171cm - Weight: 63kg – Age: 28 years old
This experienced player has taken advantage of the fact that the former star of the left wing of Cafundéu’s women National Team left football temporarily to study medicine in a prestigious university. With Natália unable to participate in the World Cup, Ruivinha became the ideal replacement. This redhead is full of energy, and her speed is impressive. More than that, her long ranged passes are more accurate than a missile, which are extremely useful in a difficult game. Outside the pitch, the most curious fact about her life is her passion for heavy metal music, and she is frequently seen in concerts of the genre.
Rating: C - Team Relationship: B - Morale: A - Form: C

Central Defenders:

3- Alessandra Fauver Low "ALÊ" (Team: Atleticano Capital)
Female – Height: 168cm – Weight: 60kg - Age: 24 years old
And now the player who was just a promise for the future receives the position of starting defender of the new Cafundelense unified squad. Alê is not a tall player, but is impressively good at jumping and with the ball on her feet. For a defender, many people argue that she lacks the essential ability to mark an opponent, but she compensates that well with her other defensive skills. As for her personality, people should be cautious with her: her humour can change suddenly, especially due to hormonal changes, so you can never fully predict how she will react about something.
Rating: B – Team Relationship: A – Morale: A – Form: B
PLAYED WC 58

4- KLEDIR Dinei Alvarenga (Team: Petardos S/A)
Male - Height: 190cm – Weight: 86kg – Age: 28 years old
In a single season, Kledir went from complete obscurity to a place as the starter of the Cafundelense National Team. Recruited from a amateur club into the semi-professional team Varzeano, which relies on former amateur stars to do a good job in the Primeirona, Kledir showed impressive talent with a style that mixes his strength with intelligence: he isn’t violent, but is able to take advantage of his larger build to easily send his opponents away and take the ball. Due to his good performances, went to Petardos S/A. When he is not playing or training, Kledir is known for being a good guitar player, and loves to sing country music. As most of his team mates hate that kind of music, he is the target of several jokes.
Rating: A – Team Relationship: B – Morale: B – Form: A
PLAYED WC 58

13- WELLINGTON Bunch (Team: Clube Comercial)
Male - Height: 175cm – Weight: 72kg – Age: 30 years old
Another promising talent of a generation that won two Di Bradini Cups, Wellington is now a starter for Clube Comercial and a natural choice for the National Team of Cafundéu. Usually a Cafundelense defender is very strong and even violent or technical and quick, but Wellington manages to be a mix of these two styles. He is strong, but cautious when closing an attacker. He only becomes violent when provoked, but when this happens he makes it sure to provoke his offender back, so if he loses his temper his opponent will lose it too. Overall, a different defender who is very valued by his club.
Rating: B – Team Relationship: B – Morale: B – Form: C
PLAYED WCs 55/56/57/58

21- VIVIANE Garcia Melenguez (Team: 10 de Abril)
Female – Height: 165cm – Weight: 52kg – Age: 26 years old
Vivi, as she is known by her team mates, but a nickname which she doesn’t allow to be used in official announcements or in the Cafundelense shirt, is a tough defender. Not because of her strength or size, as you can see she is a small player, but because of her determination and ferocity when fighting for the ball. A top marker, she never gives up in fighting an opponent for the ball, following him and attempting to win the dispute, but never being violent. Outside the playing pitch, she has shown this same determination by managing to complete her university studies while being a football player at the same time, in a tiring routine.
Rating: C - Team Relationship: B - Morale: B - Form: B

Defensive Midfielders:

5- RAIMUNDO NONATO de Paula Lima (Team: SC Lasft)
Male - Height: 171cm - Weight: 71kg – Age: 30 years old
Few people really give him the recognition he deserves for his work, because he hardly scores goals or makes wonderful moves. But Raimundo Nonato, in SC Lasft, is the man that supports all the midfield of that team, being the responsible for the start of many offensive moves and for the success of many defensive strategies. Hardly noticed for those who tend to look only for goalscorers and master tricksters, the presence of Raimundo is what makes their beautiful moves possible, as without him the ball would never reach them. At least the Cafundelense coach sees the talent of Nonato, and called him to the NT, where he can continue his tough but essential work in a football match.
Rating: A - Team Relationship: B - Morale: B - Form: A
PLAYED WCs 57/58

15- Nathália Rowe Faellon "NATHY" (Team: Acadêmica)
Female – Height: 164cm – Weight: 48kg – Age: 24 years old
A kind player, but also one who doesn’t like to receive a “no” as an answer, Nathy usually is a person that people love or hate. Luckily, when inside a football squad, she is able to control her feelings and work for the team, which is excellent for her relationship. As a player, she is a good midfielder with excellent tackling and passing skills. So, her work is to mainly take the ball from an opponent and set up an offensive move right after. And, in the end, this is something that she can easily do and with efficiency.
Rating: B - Team Relationship: A - Morale: B - Form: A

20- José Carlos Questo Moura "ZEZINHO" (Team: Cafundó do Juta)
Male - Height: 177cm – Weight: 76kg – Age: 26 years old
Zezinho is a defensive midfielder specialized in shooting: long distance shots, finishing when needed even though in his position he usually doesn't score goals, or kicking opponent players... well, you need shooting abilities for that too. Very funny when with his friends, Zezinho can be the devil for the opponents: he knows how to provoke them and make them lose concentration. But he is also a fine player.
Rating: C – Team Relationship: B – Morale: A – Form: C
PLAYED WCs 57/58

Neutral Midfielders:

7- Edgar Gomes RUFINO (Team: Ranca Toco)
Male - Height: 179cm – Weight: 72kg – Age: 32 years old
Extremely technical, this midfielder usually plays in a defensive role, impressing everyone who would expect a tough guard in that position. Rufino beats his opponents with intelligence, managing to take the ball from them with style, and easily setting up counterattacks. Due to his lack of strength, he plays together with a stronger team mate in the midfield, and in club level he has Rugrosso as partner. While one is the toughest one, Rufino is the one who knows how to play good football. Rufino also got a degree in philosophy, and loves to transform his interviews in philosophy lessons, forcing the reporters to be cautious when asking questions to him, or making them avoid questions.
Rating: A – Team Relationship: A – Morale: A – Form: A
PLAYED WCs 54/55/56/57/58

17- FERNANDA Silveira Caldas (Team: Atleticano Capital)
Female – Height: 171cm – Weight: 57kg - Age: 29 years old
Fernanda is a very creative player, who usually plays in a more offensive function. She is the dribbling genius of the squad, who has tons of fans duo to her beautiful moves. Her finishing isn't as good as her dribbling, but her individual players, when she dribbles many players in a row, can easily end with goals. Sometimes her opponents consider her dribbles as a way to humilliate them, but she does that only to have fun. Outside the pitch she frequently appears on tv shows to show her artistic talent with the ball.

Attacking Midfielders:

8- Aécio FUNEZ (Team: Petardos S/A)
Male - Height: 177cm – Weight: 69kg – Age: 25 years old
After doing a good job in the Di Bradini Cup and for minor clubs, the giants Petardos S/A signed with Aécio Funez as a bet to make the team younger and with more talent. It seems to have been a good idea, since Funez is an extremely technical player with good ability in dribbling and making beautiful moves. He is able to change the destiny of the match in a single play, by dribbling the defender who was stopping everyone or sending the ball exactly where a team mate is even in a crowded area. The only problems of Funez seem to be in the psychological area: due to his fame, he is somewhat arrogant, getting easily overconfident and sometimes even criticizing his team mates when things do not get right.

10- ANA PAULA Freitas Gamma (Team: Clube Imperial)
Female – Height: 176cm – Weight: 62kg - Age: 25 years old
The most complete player of the midfield, this girl works well with Funez or with Fernanda, as she completes them, with she being a better playmaker while they are top dribblers. She is a good dribbler too, but her other qualities make people consider her a better player. She is very good at shooting, in any ranges, and manages to make offensive moves with ease. Another curious talent of Ana Paula is to score olympic goals. Her corner kicks aren't dangerous because of the crossing, but because they are aimed directly to the goal! She also impresses many people with her beauty, earning a lot of money by appearing in advertisements, but rejecting many proposals that use only her beauty, and not her fame as a footballer.

PLAYED WC 58

19- ZÉLIA Vermonte (Team: 10 de Abril)
Female – Height: 160cm – Weight: 47kg – Age: 22 years old
This enthusiastic player had a very tough childhood: with her father dying when she was just four years old, she was forced to help her mother in cooking food for other people, since that was what her mother did for a living. Football came as a solution both for her economic and mental problems, since she was close to depression. Now she is one of the most motivated players of the squad, who shows truly love for football, for playing and having fun, even though she is also mature and responsible, and also always pays homage to her family.
Rating: C – Team Relationship: C – Morale: B – Form: B

Attackers:

9- Daniela Britto Lopes "DANI" (Team: Clube Imperial)
Female – Height: 181cm – Weight: 65kg - Age: 27 years old
The offensive midfielders may be the most praised players in the squad, but it's Dani the one from the former women squad who gives the Monopolists the most important thing in a football game: the goals.Dani is good at heading, and her good positioning also gives her the condition to be always with good scoring chances. Her dribbling is only average, many other attackers are better, but her good positioning and finishing ability make the difference. With Rael as her partner, her importance as a target woman inside the area may lessen, but she'll still try to be the main goalscorer of the squad.

PLAYED WC 58

11- RAEL Carneiro Musiol (Team: Clube Comercial)
Male - Height: 178cm – Weight: 71kg – Age: 29 years old
Rael conquered international fame due to his participation in three editions of the Di Bradini Cup, all as a starter of the Monopolists. And, with the team reaching three finals of that competition and winning two titles with him as key player and top goalscorer, he began to be considered the wonderkid of Cafundéu. Now keeping his good performances in the Primeirona, he is the main hope of the Cafundelenses who want to see their country return to be a major force in football. Rael is a lethal striker, excellent dribbler and able to shoot the ball in any situation, even when well marked by opponents. He isn't one who is able to make wonderful moves, like dribbling five opponents or shooting from the midfield, but he is extremely efficient: he can take the ball in difficult positions and manage to score a goal from there. He also isn't very good defensively. In his daily life, enjoy movies and music a lot, and loves to talk about these themes.
Rating: A – Team Relationship: B – Morale: C – Form: A
PLAYED WCs 56/57/58

18- ANA CLARA Vergara (Team: 10 de Abril)
Female – Height: 162cm – Weight: 44kg - Age: 21 years old
The true future star of this team, Ana Clara is the one who everyone wants to see playing in this World Cup, just to see if all the hype around her is fair or not. Ana Clara is supposed to be a complete striker, but has played only two seasons so far. Due to her popularity in the media, she is a much loved person by the fans, and there is a huge pressure over her. When Dani underperforms, it is likely that Ana Clara will receive a chance. A curiosity about her is her strange fashion taste, which is... well, strange.
Rating: B – Team Relationship: B – Morale: B – Form: A
PLAYED WC 58

23- BRÁULIO Pinto Hernandes (Team: Petardos S/A)
Male - Height: 185cm – Weight: 83kg – Age: 23 years old
One of the few male players in the squad that have just come from the most recent generation of young players of the Di Bradini Cup. Bráulio’s arrival in the National Team was one expected, but when only men composed the squad. However, he was able to breach even with the extra competition, and is supposed to grow in reputation inside Cafundéu, as he plays for a top club. His main ability is heading the ball, but his strength makes him an excellent option as a target man inside the area.
Rating: C – Team Relationship: C – Morale: B – Form: B

Staff:

Coach: Henrique SILVEIRA
Height: 175cm – Weight: 68kg – Age: 59 years old
Player for A.F.F. in the best seasons the team had, when they won the Primeirona, and also a player for the National Team of Cafundéu in the gold era of the Monopolists, when the team was one of the top three ranked nations of the world and runner-ups of the World Cup, Henrique Silveira became a top coach. Differently than other Cafundelense coaches, Silveira prefers to have a more balanced approach at the game, giving more importance at intelligent defending and lethal counterattacks, probably because he was a defensive midfielder. A very respected person, is a coach who the critics and supporters won’t feel good in criticizing.
Rating: B – Team Relationship: A – Morale: A – Confidence: B
FORMER PLAYER FOR CAFUNDÉU
COACH IN WC 58

Assistant Coach: Kledir RAMALHO
Height: 168cm - Weight: 78kg – Age: 63 years old
During previous World Cup cycles, several rumours about the influence of the scouts and agents on the CCFM and transfers in general harmed the reputation of previous scout Mikklos Irvinz, who was asked to leave after the accusations that he was only recommending players that he managed as an agent. The replacement found was the experienced Kledir Ramalho, who is considered part of the “old school” of scouts just like The Scout, and therefore someone not involved with agents. His job as scout was so good that he received a chance to try out his coaching skills, starting as an assistant, even though he’s already old.
Rating: A - Team Relationship: B - Morale: A - Confidence: A
FORMER SCOUT FOR CAFUNDÉU

Scout: Marcos Garcia FAHRREB
Height: 178cm - Weight: 72kg – Age: 33 years old
With the promotion of Ramalho to the position of assistant coach, the CCFM needed a new scout in order to search for players and to rate the performances of the National Team. This time, the idea was to bring a new face, and Fahrreb was the chosen one. With some good history of working for clubs, he seems to have a lot of potential, but it is still unproven, in need of a top challenge to show his talent.
Rating: B - Team Relationship: B - Morale: B - Confidence: C

The Directors:

President of the CCFM: Reinaldo FRANCO
Age: 60 years old – Time in the job: 7 years
Former administrative manager of the National Team, Reinaldo Franco was chosen to the position of Vice-President of the CCFM by The Scout, in a much contested decision, as the former Vice-President Baron Ainer wanted to keep his position. As time passed, he got a lot of experience, having to handle the main duties of the President when The Scout was away, such as in his short experience as a coach in World Cup 53. When The Scout was elected to become the WCC President, the position of CCFM leader went to Franco, and he is doing fine, without making many changes in the organization and without mistakes.
Rating: B - Influence: B - Morale: A - Confidence: A

President of the CFFC: Samantha DI CAPRI
Age: 42 years old - Time in the job: 1 year
Taking over the command of the organization responsible for the women football in Cafundéu, which is now working together with the CCFM to compose the unified squad, Di Capri won an internal battle inside the federation against a group opposed to the idea of joining the squads, which advocated the women squad as the main one in the World Cup, without male members. The former president was in this group, and with her out of the way, Samantha can work towards a peaceful integration between CFFC and CCFM.

The Babbage Islands World Cup 60 Roster

Nickname: Bumblebees
Colours: Yellow and black

Manager: Manning Pelham (Civil Citizenry), record 35-11-6
Style: +1.50
Formation: 4-4-2

One question seems to face the Bumblebees every cycle now: Is this finally their year?

An optimist, or an analytical fan, will conclude instead that every year has been the Year of the Bumblebee of late. With five runs to the semifinals in the last ten cups, including finals losses to four-time champs Aguazul and two-time champs Sorthern Northland by an aggregate of 1-0, the side certainly has had great success. And the recently concluded tour of 17 nations pointed up the depth of young talent that may fuel future success.

But the fields keep getting larger, and the teams get stronger. If there's one thing we've learned under manager Manning Pelham, it's that success requires never taking anything for granted.

Forwards

Courtney Keisler 28 ST 25/14 Belgium FC
Valentine Armstrong 20 ST 13/7 Great Falls Cymru
Glen Svoboda 35 ST 107/66 Dover City
Kristine Lindquist 40 ST 31/17 Bloomfield National
Jennifer Stevens 29 ST 29/18 Dover City

For the second straight Cup the lineup has been loaded with strikers, and the depth chart is not at all clear. The best guess is that Belgium's Keisler will be the primary point woman for the attack, and she won't be thinking about baseball in this tournament. Armstrong made a terrific showing on tour and should nab the second starting spot. Veterans Svoboda, Lindquist, and Stevens provide depth and a bewildering number of seasoned alternative pairings, and Pelham's penchant for swapping strikers late for fresh replacements should see a lot of play.

Midfielders

Attacking midfielders
Aubrey Dew 28 AM 49/28 Athens Town (Civil Citizenry)
Joachim Erhardt 25 AM 32/2 Viktoria Baden

Wingers
Emily Howell 23 LM 15/4 Parisian
Amado Cavazos 22 RM 6/2 Four Towers
Shí Guólǎng 19 LM 8/1 Zarahemla All-Sport
Tom Wolff 21 RM 7/2 OGC Nancy

Defensive midfielders
Natalia Karven 31 DM 70/14 Dunboor FC (Cafundéu)
Coll Brodie 18 DM 13/1 FC Green Star

Dew or Erhardt running the attack, Karven back, so far not much different from last time. And then you look on the wings. This is where the world tour really made its mark, as five of the eight midfielders on this roster including all four wingers made international debuts on that tour. Howell and Cavazos are a young pair filling some big boots. Neither will be asked to score like the great Dagrún, but both have talents for finding the net and finding their mates. Brodie, at 18 the youngest player on the squad, can play any midfield position if needed although his strengths are perfect for Karven's mentoring.

Defenders

Centre backs
Saturnino Valle Barajas 29 CB 57/2 Great Falls Cymru
Ava Gillespie 26 CB 15/2 UMFK

Full backs
Katja Mira 32 RB 76/6 Petardos S/A (Cafundéu)
Joey Baldwin 22 LB 26/1 Far Point Islanders
Ciriaco Jurado Gracia 28 LB 13/0 UMFK
Mattis Huber 20 RB 8/0 Bloomfield National

Sweepers
Nancy Svoboda (capt.) 33 SW 122/4 Bloomfield National
Lara Kaufmann 19 SW 12/2 Dover City

The back line is unchanged from the World Cup 59 final and maintains the modern Bumblebees' reputation for towering defence. Svoboda, the veteran Bumblebee captain, was just named to the World Cup Hall of Fame and compares favorably with any sweeper anywhere. Saturnino is coming off a fantastic run leading Cymru to the Champions' Cup semifinals, Mira has won top defender honours in the world's strongest league at Petardos, and Baldwin leads the ongoing renaissance with Islanders. They do it all, from lightning counterattacks to in-your-face tackling. And the backups have their own stories of character, particularly Gillespie's quiet comeback from cancer.

Keepers

Goalkeepers
Kaitlyn Miller 25 GK 48/1 SC Lasft (Cafundéu)
Kenny Hall 23 GK 6/0 Celtic-Southland

Miller is on track to surpass the distinguished tenures of Solveig and Hanna-Kirkpatrick in the Babbage nets. Hall may be the backup flavor-of-the-month in this squad, but he is expected to be a key player in FĈB for years to come.

Valentine Armstrong or Natalia Karven takes penalties, Aubrey Dew or Emily Howell takes corners, and Dew, Joachim Erhardt, or Kaitlyn Miller takes free kicks.
