This problem does have a habit of recurring, let's keep ourselves under control.

Back to actually discussing the world cup in ns sports, have the WC hosts worked out how they will work the qualification groups? I probably missed it somewhere.

I expect WC49 to start sometime around December 1-4, depending on the exact finish of the Baptism of Fire and the speed of a KPB update. Newmanistan and I have a couple of draft schedules on hold. The most attractive option has qualifying finishing around December 22, then starting the Cup proper right after New Year's. It is possible that we will bump post-qual friendlies into the week between Christmas and New Year's depending on how close to Christmas we get with the qualifying; with 18 matchdays it will take some time.

i'd hate to spoil the party, but i'm 99% positive that kenavt was a member of the bof28 (wc41) crew. i say 99% because i hosted the tourny and because my memory might be foggy after 5 months away. but if anyone has a link to bof28, they could check for me.

and thanx to babbages islands for vindicating my arrival in the mid-season of an off-season. -_-

It seems that several people (including me, other than being off ill the last two days); have been hit with fairly severe cases of real-life syndrome. Nothing that can't be overcome eventually.

Links to bof28 will be somewhere in the depths of Jolt, and id rather not use the search function over there.

What about the rest of the community? Sure, he should have remembered, but BoF 28 isn't exactly ancient history and is still accessible.

In any case, is there a precedent to help us here? Here seem to be the options:

1) Leave kenavt in.
2) Have kenavt forfeit the remainder of his games.
3) Remove kenavt from the tournament, enter the next person on the waiting list - or enter a non-RPing puppet - and continue. We could redraw entirely, or just re-scorinate the first match.

I'm opposed to 1, as kenavt should have known better. If we did 3, I would think it too complex to redraw. You may remember BoF 34, where Nationstates IV had to be drawn in after the first matchday was simulated.

I'd support kicking him out of the tournament at a minimum.

In all honesty, if he has any KPB points, he should forfeit them. If he has a vote in the WCC, it should be revoked. If not, I'd recommend having his voting privileges denied for at least two Cups.

At worst, this is a case of deceipt.

Number 1 isn't really an option at all. You don't want to set that precedent.
Number 3 will just delay the BoF further. TBI and myself would rather not scorinate on Christmas Day (right now we won't have too, see her post a few up)
Number 2 makes perfect sense, here. Have all his games be a loss to forfeit.

To me, Kenavt seems to be someone who just signs up for everything he sees that he can when he is on NS and he probably simply forgot about it as an honest mistake. Don't think there was any intentional deceit here.

I'd say this is probably likely.

As the BoF has started, removing them/making them forfeit or any similar result would probably cause more issues than it would have solved. Perhaps forfeiting the KPB points gained from this BoF would be a fair way to deal with this. At maximum, a fairly minor KPB points reduction; no more than say -20 points would be reasonable. It would mean that people are likely to abide by the rules, whilst the point reduction is small enough to be overcome if it is just an honest mistake.

This shouldn't be a surprise, kenavt said in the sign-up thread that he had been in BoF previously:

Have you also participated in the BoF before? If so, then you're only eligible for the WC, not the BoF.

Im pretty sure you can do the BoF twice, if you're unranked when you enter.

Please don't invent imaginary rules to give to people with less experience than yourself. The Archregimancy is correct on this.

I have participated in both the BoF and the WC (three times, I think, never leaving qualifying). So I suppose I'll just be in the WC qualifying without a KPB ranking?

He never should have been in the tournament to begin with, but if it was a error on the part of the organizers, I don't think he deserves the nuclear option some are advocating.

Then it would appear that Kenavt did nothing wrong, and someone making the sign-up lists didn't spot it. Well, I'd say they don't need any punishment, although perhaps the illegal KPB point gains should still be wiped out. Leaving Kenavt with the 0 they expected to arrive at the WCQs with.

hooray activity. on another note, the next time i post up something really incriminating, remind me to attach the noose to my neck as well. nonetheless all this talk has been pretty amusing. i think the best option would be to substitute kenavt with the next available BoFer (if there be any, like do we need any more with 48 already in the darned thing?) and rescore the match involving kenavt. barring that, leaving the chap in as a ghost would likely scare the pants off bostopia.

with all of that aside, ive started conducting a review of my country and (as some of you may already notice), i'm considering a big change. and part of this big change will require reorganizing some of the institutions of the empire - including the ifl itself. with that said, i will be contacting those people who have had previous interests in the IFL (ie those people with gukjei teams) and asking them what they wish to do with their spazzy club in the wake of such timultuous changes. this is more a reminder to myself, since that means writing way too many tgs and emails possibly (im going to steal the computer tomorrow and GET THE %$#^ ONLINE). so if you owned a han club, expect a black note.

and to top it off, a poll: who here thinks that purple-stinging nellies are worth it all? (fyi, i've just figured out why i call them nellies)

It's a bit ironic... everyone focused on if Euro could be in it, they missed it, apparently.

Either way, you can't punish him for someone else's error. Let him play now, he's at 24 days anyway, if he ceases... *shrug* that solves the problem anyway. And if he doesn't cease and comes back, I don't think the world's gonna end because of what... 2 KPB points, or whatever you get from the Baptism of fire now.
