As all of you will know, I've always been a strong proponent of minimising the mention of RL events in the NSWC discussion thread.

But I hope you'll forgive me for at least noting in passing the sad football-related events in Germany overnight, where German national team goalkeeper Robert Enke - the presumed starting German goalkeeper for the RL 2010 WC - appears to have committed suicide by throwing himself in front of a train.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/8353964.stm

It's an appalling sequence of events that seems to stem from depression following the death of his daughter in 2006.

I'm going to ask for community advice on an issue that has arisen, understanding that making the call belongs to the hosts.

After the closing of entries, with no waiting list, a nation has CTE. My instinct is to leave them in the draw in Pot 9 and score all of their games as forfeitures. It is also reasonable to draw them in Pot 9 and scorinate the games normally. I do not think it is wise to reopen entries for a replacement, or to remove the entry entirely and proceed with 136. Your thoughts? And is there applicable precedent?

If you're going to leave the nation in the World Cup, scorinate normally, no doubt for me. At the end of the qualifiers, apply them the punishment you feel better.

Although I think that reopen one entry is a reasonable option, maybe even opening the possibility of building a waiting list, as we still have some time before the World Cup - and with this a possibility that this fate happens with more nations too.

I know it's illegal, But I would love my new puppet of NASCAR Start and Parks to enter.

There's a running gag that the team only plays five minutes into the game before quitting, so that they can save there shoes for some time down the road.

At this point, it's entirely your decision, though I'm sure we all appreciate your asking for advice.

Oh, the responsibilities of being a WC host....

But seriously, any of the options you outline above would probably be acceptable as none of them contravene the outlined terms of your hosting bid or any WCC rules. You're entirely within your rights to chose any of them, though I would make it clear, publicly and early, which option you decide to follow.
