Just the one, so far.

I am looking for up to three less-experienced co-hosts for a possible Cup of Harmony 44 bid. Interested nations should express that interest by TG, not in this thread, please.

<puts mod hat on>

I've intentionally stayed out of much of the discussion over the last few pages, because God knows I've been tempted to take more direct action.

There's been spam. There's been picspam. There's been borderline flaming. And so far, because of the NS Sport history of banter in discussion threads and community self-regulation, I've let it go.

Things have calmed down again now, just about, but let me make it perfectly clear that if we do have a repeat of what we've gone through over the last couple of weeks, I'll have little choice but to start being more proactive in my NS Sport moderation. Even if it means following up on Veph's sarcastic suggestion and locking this thread, forcing us on to version III.

No warnings this time, and no thread lockings - partially because I really, really don't want to have to set a precedent by doing so.

But for God's sake, pull yourselves together. It really is just a game. Try and get some sense of perspective (writes the mod with terminal cancer, who therefore maybe has a bit too much of a sense of perspective).

On a separate topic, in keeping with this announcement....

Andrewboy has been banned from the forums - but not from the NationStates game - for being under the minimum age for forum participation. He does have leave to appeal, but it is unlikely he will be participating in any events he has recently signed up for.

And Burch, I'm really, really sorry, but I'm going to have to TG you over the relevant implication of the below, regardless of whether you were joking or not:

Burchadinger/Die Adler has also been banned for being underage.

However, we have reason to believe that Burchadinger's 13th birthday is in a month, so he has only been given a month-long ban. This may have implications as regards his ability to participate in NS Sport events with ranking points.

I am going to make a point of going on the IRC NS Sport channel at half time of Italy - NZ tomorrow if anyone wants to discuss these underage bans in more detail.

Will Burchadinger's temporary ban influence the ongoing Cup of Harmony 43? He's leading my group right now. Will his team still advance if they win tomorrow, or will he be withdrawn from competition?

Right now, we're working on the principle that they entered the competition and therefore will see it through; a policy of non-interference on the part of the hosts. I'm considering the option of stopping banned nations from advancing (with third placed teams going in their place). Not sure about it. Right now, hope to finish in a top two spot. Given that Burch should return well before his KPB rank gets wiped out, I think altering which teams might advance is a bit dodgy.

Will he be able to gain KPB points from the matches that take place after his ban?

I assume that he will, although I do not update the ranks. As far as I'm aware, there is no rule concerning this. Nations that CTE usually accumulate ranking points during World Cup Qualifiers. I think the principle is the same.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Oh, and since it sounds like Burch is going to advance in spite of his forumban - GO BURCHADINGER! (If he beats The Ursine Northlands I advance past the group stage...)

Lol @ the bans. Very lol.

I'm interested in getting back into hosting again, possibly the CoH coming up, by which time I should have more spare time and my shoulder should be fixed! If anyone is keen, let me know here or via TG. Thanks!

Thanks for that! But I've already hosted a couple of CoH's and I think TBI is especially looking for less experienced than that.

I'd be willing to consider joining a Cup of Harmony bid as a junior host once NSFS 3.0 is fully live and any potential bugs are worked out, both in the program itself and in my potential learning how to use it.

I thought about doing the same, Sarzonia, but I'm going to be bidding for the next Cup of Peace, which we plan to run after WC52 Qualifiers so there'd be a scheduling conflict.

Clearly this is not the place to discuss this, and since it's a Terms of Service decision not much will be done, but can I just say that the new COPPA enforcement is a real bitch. It's a dumb law and NS isn't hosted in the US; I see no reason it (or, if it were to be enforced, its members under 13 outside the US) should be affected.

This especially so considering Burchadinger was one of only two regular RPers in the WGPC.

So here's a question for Arch — while this might be frowned upon in General or otherwise, would it be possible for our banned underaged members to continue to RP (and accumulate RP bonus) by TG'ing their posts directly to the hosts for the hosts (and no one else) to post for them? At the very least, for tournaments they continue to be involved in, if not future tournaments they can't enter due to the ban. Something to consider, which might let our valued under-13s, like Burch, to continue to participate.
