It's good to be back. It has been like forever.

And it is even better after I find out I'm second in Group 15 ahead of Milchama and Delaclava and just 2 points behind Cafundeu. Nothing to celebrate yet though. This happens in the last World Cup too. Jesselton has always been in the top 2 only to fail to qualify after finishing third in the last matchday.

On another note, why are we always on Group 15?

After nearly 4 days of RPing in bits and amassing some great compendium of worthlessly insane words and phrases, a random click has somewhat invalidated the work of those days.

Even better, I can give you a mod hug. These are super special hugs.

<mod hug for Han>

Feel better now?

Anyway, tomorrow's my last day of holiday - flying back to the UK (via a day in Hong Kong) tomorrow evening (Australia time). I should be RPing properly again from the 1st of June.

Some here may be amused to hear that I visited an Orthodox monastery in country Victoria a couple of days ago (where my wife's father - an Orthodox archpriest - is buried). It's not the fact that I visited a monastery that might raise a gentle laugh, but rather the fact that the monastery had its own soccer pitch.

Seriously.

Maybe the Archregimancy is more realistic than I ever thought....

Good example of this in action: me. I've been crafting some great rp's changing the main charachter to my whims every day, and I'm at second to the bottom of the table.

On the other hand Antarctistan, who is only 10 ranks above me, and hasn't (to my knowledge) rped at all, yet he's in contention to qualify for the finals.

My apologies for the fact that I haven't been doing much RP so far during this Cup: Unfortunately various RL factors (fortunately none of them actually "serious" in nature) have been restricting my internet access more than is usually the case...

I was going to wait until after the World Cup to make the formal announcement, but since I have already mentioned it in a couple other places, I might as well let you all know now:

This is my last World Cup, unless the structure of the thing changes, which I know it never will (and I'd rather not get into it because I know it never will, I will elaborate in TG only so that only people who want to hear, will hear.).... so this is my last World Cup. I am not leaving NS Sports, I am only leaving this particular competition. I will get my football/soccer fix in other competitions that come up.

There are a few reasons I am doing this, but I can't under-emphasize enough that my rivalry with Dancougar was a big thing that kept me going here. Also a couple other traditional rivals are either no longer participating, or they hardly RP anymore. And in all honesty, football/soccer trails several sports to me as far as my own interest levels are concerned. I feel that I have spent too much time concerning myself with the World Cup that I have sacrificed my efforts in other sports that I do enjoy more.

Thanks to everyone who RP'd with me over the period of time I participated. Cup of Harmony hosts should not bother to invite me.

Hi y'all. I'm back from holiday having quite strangely left and returned on pretty much exactly the same dates as Arch. Usual involvement levels to follow, which brings me to:

Zarbli wrote:6-2 loss against non-RPer best ranked Starblaydia...

Really, what's the point? Does RPing actally give you some benefit at all?

Sorry, but after the BoF, this is really frustrating...

Wow, not sure in some 6 years of being here that I've ever been described as that before. Extenuating circumstances this time, promise. Extenuating in that I came back from holiday with a Mrs Star-to-be. So yep, for those not following on facebook, my gf said yes to the popped question and we're engaged :)

Newmanistan wrote:Enjoy the competition, and realize that now, you are not “Brazil” or “Italy”, and your nation is developing its program.

Best and most simplest piece of advice I've seen for newbies ever (doubly so in that it's your parting gift to the WC - I scored many of your great tournaments and am sad to see the soccer cease!). Everyone starts off as the Faroe Islands, Pohnpei, or Andorra, for instance. Taking the current FIFA/Elo rankings, Starblaydia were about as good as Guatemala, Cape Verde, Fiji or Congo when we began in World Cup 15 - and that was only because we had Under-21 rankings fed into those at the time.

Results went my way enough that I could RP - and feel, strangely enough - that the KPB rankings were having to catch up with how good Starblaydia really were, rather than us simply playing as well as our rank indicated.

All I can say (in dredging up the whole discussion again, I know) is RP and compete for your own enjoyment of storytelling. A string of losses, of matches to RP against a team with no provided information at all and who seem undeserving of their rank and results, can be a frustrating thing to deal with. In their first proper Cup, it's easy to see why people decide not to bother with a frustrating game-within-a-game™. Stick with it and find your RPing groove, as it will develop your characters, your nation and your writing style itself in ways you can't quite perceive at this point.

Starblaydia, for instance, would be essentially nothing without sports roleplaying: a minor, fairly rich tinpot dictatorship with a mightier-than-thou™ sense of entitlement, who probably would have ceased to exist some time around 2006. With sports RP... well, that's what wiki links in my sig are for.

That's because 'Cornwall' and 'Melbourne' were nothing more than our individual codewords for our Secret Lair of Ultimate Evil where we met to advance our terrible plot for world domination.

Dr. and Mrs. Archregimancy are happy to congratulate you if this isn't merely a cover story for your latest trip to our Secret Lair of Ultimate Evil

Everyone starts off as the Faroe Islands, Pohnpei, or Andorra, for instance

Dr. Archregimancy would like to pedantically point out that Pohnpei is not a member of FIFA as it's merely one of the Federated States of Micronesia, and therefore part of the Micronesian national FA. It is no more eligible to participate in a FIFA event in its own right than Shetland or (more accurately) Tasmania. Therefore any nation starting out as Pohnpei would probably be ineligible to participate in the World Cup.

And I just want to remind everyone that I was just as pedantic even before my name was lit up in red.

But how many small breakaway football association puppet type nations have we seen in the World Cup's history? Enough to say that a starting-out nation at some point in time is equivalent to Pohnpei, you pedantic so-and-so :p

Congratulations and Godspeed! If all goes well this can be the most important thing you'll ever do.

I wouldn't be where I am today without your support, going back to my very first four-team tournament as a host. You'll be missed here. Yet somehow I sense a gain for NS Sport as a whole when you redirect your formidable gifts to the promotion of other sports. I share your sense that the World Baseball Classic is near a breakout point, for example.

And as far as that structural change goes -- never is a long time.

Although you should say that every nation starts off as some previously-unheard-of nation with absolutely no international football experience whatsoever, if you really wanted to be pedantic.
