Personally, I'd rather keep the administrative responsibilities of a host/committee presidency separate from Moderator responsibilities.

It is definitely not a reflection on Arch's ability to handle both tasks with aplomb; in fact, if I were to make an exception to this concern, it would indeed be Arch whom I'd have in mind for the exception. However, I'm rather uncomfortable with the precedent that could be set.

I have to admit that the more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to agree.

I'm flattered that it's been suggested that I do it, and I'm sure the overwhelming majority of you would trust me to do it- but is it necessarily a useful precedent to have a mod engage in sport tournament admin because he's a mod?

Vote administration should probably remain under the overall purview of the WCC President (or relevant organiser(s) for other established tournaments).

I'm happy to see Arch become a mod; he deserves it.

The duties of the WCC President should not become lessened. Duties of the hosts of future tournaments should not be lessened because of this, however. His modship, really, shouldn't have bearing on any World Cup administrative duties. Arch's modly duties encompass all forums, and his oversight of this forum will include all threads, and all sporting competitions. If one competition (the World Cup) says "Arch should collect our votes now since he is a mod" and he says yes, then there's another precedent that brews..... why doesn't he collect World Baseball Classic host voting? World Bowl voting? Etc, etc. Do nations that only play in the World Baseball Classic then feel his modship may be biased towards the World Cup since he does not play in baseball, and take the same votes? There is more to this forum then the World Cup.

No special rules are needed.... if ain't broke, don't fix it. It's not broke.

You seem to be missing the point of WCC Ballot Box in the first place - it's only there for when the WC President and Vice-President are candidates in the voting process. This time around (for which it was created, no less), Schia collected the votes under the guise of WCC Ballot Box. It made everything much simpler, and gives an official face for that random time when you need an extra, official place to TG things to.

It's not 'ArchRED now collects all WCC votes', at all. It's 'When we need someone impartial, and we can't have it just as the first volunteer in #nssport, who are we gonna call?'

Apart from Euroslavia.

Euroslavia is the first (I think) to play as a mod in NS Sports, but he doesn't ave much to do with the community we have here. He's basically more of a general mod.

Thanks for all the kind words of congrats.

As it happens, I'm leaving for Australia tomorrow and won't be back until the 1st of June (Star, who knows more about my wife's health than the rest of you, will appreciate the importance of my devoting the majority of my time to the visit rather than NS) - so I won't really be participating in anything WC-related until I get back.

Ditto in the extremely unlikely event that any NS Sport event needs mod intervention while I'm away - stick with Euro until I return!

Just watch - now that I've said that, there'll be an unprecedented all-out flame war between the WC, World Bowl, World Baseball Classic, and assorted other tournaments...

Ewww, general? Far from it. More of an II mod, along with a bit of the WA forums. I've been the mod most familiar with sports, before Arch was modded, but now that he is, I feel a lot more comfortable having another person to discuss any sort of issues with, especially since he's a heck of a lot more familiar with the community then I am.

I got that.... I was also touching on the point raised by Sarzonia about the general separating of his mod duties and special duties that would be implied to come with them within an individual tournament.

Hope all goes well with your wife, Arch.

No, but it takes up one slot of your three friendlies that can be scorinated by the hosts.

You can have more than the prescribed three if you have someone other than the hosts scorinate it.
