Grokworks Champions' League
for Babbage rules football

Babbage Football International, with the generous support of presenting sponsor Grokworks, are pleased to announce the inaugural Grokworks Champions' League for Babbage rules football. Clubs from across the world of Babbage code are invited to compete for the title of world club champion.

Any nation with an organised federation for Babbage rules football may send up to four clubs to the competition. These clubs should be submitted in top-down order of merit for seeding purposes. The League will incorporate a group stage for up to 32 clubs in pools of four playing home-and-home. Sixteen clubs will advance to a knockout stage playing two-leg matches at each level save the Grand Final. Should more than 32 clubs enter, a system of eliminations amongst the lower-seeded clubs will be implemented to reduce the field to 32 for the group stage.

In future installments, a coefficient system based on past performances will be used to seed clubs. BFI anticipate alternating Grokworks Champions' League competitions with Babbage Football World Championships.

Entry is accomplished by publishing scorinated results in this thread and indicating what clubs have qualified thereby. The deadline for entry is not fixed at this writing.

NABC Premier League Results

The Premier League of the National Association for Babbage Code (NABC) is the oldest professional league in the home of Babbage rules football. It now has 24 teams organised into four geographic sections. Each year the sections are paired into divisions in an alternating pattern: North/East and South/West one year, North/West and South/East the next. This cuts down on travel, provides varying levels of rivalry, and maintains home-and-home play within a reasonable season length. Three teams from each division advance to the playoffs, which are operated under a Page-style system.

The Carmadin Babbage Rules Championship- Season One

The Format:

The CBRC consists of 2 conferences, each with 12 teams. Each team plays the other twice, and at the end of the season the 2 best teams from each conference enter the 5-team, 4-match playoff battle. The 3rd place teams in each conference play a 2-legged match to decide the fifth team in the Championship battle, a 5-team, 5-day, 4-match round-robin. The team topping the table at the end of four matches wins the Carmadin Cup, the highest domestic award for Carmadin Babbage Rules.

Qualification for postseason:

The 2 conference champions are assured of a Champion's league berth, no matter what their placement in the Championship Final. The Cup winner is assured of a berth as well, provided they are not already qualified. The remaining one (or two, depending on the Cup winner) spot is decided by placement in the Championship Table. One team in the Championship will not qualify for any international competition, and they will recieve compensation (see Awards)

Awards:

Memorial Bowl: In honor of the first award won by Carmadin, in Babbage Rules World Cup VII, the non-qualifying team in the Championship Playoffs is given the Memorial Bowl.

The Conference Crowns are won by the two teams finishing in first place after Twenty-Two matchdays.

The National Crown is contested whenever the 2 conference champions meet in the Championship Final. It is awarded to the winner, and this is the second-highest domestic award.

The Carmadin Cup is given to the winner of the Championship final. it is the highest award a club can earn in Carmadin.

The Grand Slam is only awarded if a team wins every one of its games in the Championship Playoffs.

North absolutely dominated West, and as the four pre-qualified teams looked on, the Battle for Peniclado took a definite lean to the North, setting West up for a difficult return fixture at home.

Peniclado West was able to squeak away with a 30-21 win, but thanks to the first match, they fall to North, as 36 points was just too much to overcome.

National Babbageball Federation

We were there in the beginning. Mcleod Cup I, all four teams. It was a club event then, won by a university team from Newmanistan. Who knew that it would grow into a true world championship?

The National Babbageball Federation of SarahRed-n-BarryBlue has never set up a national team, so we haven't been back. But with the Grokworks Champions' League once again focusing on clubs, our players would like to go up against the world once more.

Our nominees to the first Grokworks Champions' League are Oxbridge Yellow Jackets, Wasilla Gunners, Chautauqua North Star, and Churchill Knights.

In Falconear, Babbage Rules Football has become popular with forty teams participating in four conferences of ten teams each. They play a double round robin schedule, and top three of each conference make it to the knockout rounds. The top seed gets a bye while the other two seeds must play for a spot in the quarterfinals. Top four, of course, make it to the Champions' League.

Grokworks Champions' League
for Babbage rules football

Forty-three teams from 12 nations have entered clubs in the inaugural Grokworks Champions' League for Babbage rules football. (Management have accepted the entries from both Patricant and The Kytler Peninsulae despite documentation questions.)

As will be the case in future editions 25 clubs are pre-qualified to the group stage. Without established coefficients, these teams included all first- and second-tier clubs from the entering associations plus two third-tier clubs determined by lot. The long-term standard will be:

1. The defending champions are guaranteed a slot even if they do not qualify in the ordinary manner from their association.
2. From among association champions (top nominees), the top 16 by GCL coefficient.
3. From amongst all clubs not qualified by virtue of the above, the top 8 by GCL coefficient, plus additional clubs to make up the difference should fewer than 16 associations participate.

Clubs that are not advanced directly to the group stage participate in two-leg knockout rounds, with clubs entering at various stages based on coefficients and paired by lot.

For the second straight season, Sheboygan Company C had a terrible time trying to win, and the Club's owners made the decision to withdraw the Club from the league. Sheboygan will join with Minneapolis and Kaukauna in the formation of a second tier league, which will start operations next season. But enough about the bottom of the League.

Champions' League winners, Stambaugh Miners, took the title, beating out last seasons winners, Chicago Chillar AC by four points. But the real suprise came from the Oshkosh Professionals, who finished only a single point behind the Miners. The Opening season of The Icemark BRF League saw Old Haven take the league, over Bendis who had lead the pack in the early stages. The most notable talking point was the Capital City Club, Frostmarris failing to finish in the Top 4 and only managing to qualify for the Champions League courtesy of a victory in the knockout cup.

NABC Premier League Results

The Premier League of the National Association for Babbage Code (NABC) is the oldest professional league in the home of Babbage rules football. It now has 24 teams organised into four geographic sections. Each year the sections are paired into divisions in an alternating pattern: North/East and South/West one year, North/West and South/East the next. This cuts down on travel, provides varying levels of rivalry, and maintains home-and-home play within a reasonable season length. Three teams from each division advance to the playoffs, which are operated under a Page-style system.
