Baptism of Iron 11: Everything Thread

Postby Michael VII » Wed Mar 07, 2012 1:47 am

Hello, and welcome to Michael VII for the 11th staging of the BAPTISM OF IRON!

The Baptism of Iron is the NSverse's prequel tournament to the premier American Football tournament, the World Bowl. For new nations only, this is your one chance to make history, your one chance to claim this prestigious title, and a great opportunity to gain a few crucial rankings points to boost your chances going into the 17th World Bowl.

So 30 teams will battle it out over 8 RL days in the hopes to be crowned, the Champions of the 11th Baptism of Iron. From your groups, 8 teams will qualify for the playoffs, in which 3 days will settle the men from the boys, as we reach our final here in the beautiful country, Michael VII.

New to RPing?
We all were once, and thankfully, you've made the right choice here to start your journey in the World Bowl. You could be a seasoned pro here on NS Sports, however, if you've never competed here before, here's a few points.

-This thread is where you are to post your team's Roster, Role Plays, and RP Permissions.

-While none of the above are "compulsory", your chances of winning are greatly improved after RPing, especially when it is judged to be creative, well done, and consistent. A roster will help out you in your RPs, and others for theirs, should they RP about the result of the game. Your roster post will also count towards your RP bonus.

-RPs can be about anything. Literally anything. They don't even need to be about the Baptism of Iron, or even sports related. Many users here have had resounding success with non-related RPs. Its all up to you, and that's the beauty of it. Just find your style, and have as much fun RPing as we all do. After all, if we didn't like it, we wouldn't do it would we?

Necessary Points to know
-RPing doesn't guarantee a win. Scorinators are random at heart and provide a scoring medium to RP about, whether it be a win or loss, and don't provide a guarantee for anything. Upsets happen, and non-RPing teams win occasionally, however about 90% of the time, the RPing team when rank points are even, will win. RPing boosts your chances of a win, but won't guarantee it.

-And please, PLEASE, follow another user's RP Permissions. There is actually nothing worse than following an RP that your opponent has made and they have broken your rules. Godmodding for example being one.

Godmodding is when you RP about events that are extraordinary and almost never would occur in real life. If you want your sports events to be quite realistic, don't allow Godmodding, or GMing. If you honestly don't care, then don't say that you don't want GMing. Your decision.

To help out with RPs, here is a list of things that you should provide in your first RP/roster post.

Code: Select all
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my scorers: Y/N
Choose scoring events: Y/N
RP injuries to my players: Y/N
Godmod scoring events: Y/N
Godmod injuries: Y/N
Godmod other events: Y/N

The Karditan Ironworkers

Coming mostly from the rough streets of Detrot and Sinsinatti, the Ironworkers are the biggest and the strongest that managed to bash their way onto the national gridiron. They specialize in stopping the other team cold, delivering quick crushing hits that'll make your jaw rattle just watching. They have no particular preference on how to start drives- some call it a lack of focus, we call it flexibility. Passing and running can and will be used on all downs, forcing the opponents to constantly reajust and guess. Of course all pegasus competitors play with their wings tied to be fair.

Yesopalitha Flames National Gridiron Football Team

Name Position Race Age Weight Height Sex
Jack Chelak Head Coach Human 34 200 6' M
Nick Willenhem Assistant Coach Human 28 195 5'11" M
Victoria Wells Offensive Coordinator Human 23 140 5'6" F
Nau'kai Vanx Defensive Coordinator Vampire 20 166 5'8" M
Myki Wrotten Special Teams Coordinator Elf 125 160 5'9" F
Yansai Tims Team Physician Treefolk 30 150 5'3" M

Jack Chelak is at the helm of this ambitious Flames team, assisted by Nick Willenheim. Victoria Wells has proven that a woman can call some pretty amazing plays, while Nau'kai Vanx's unorthodox blitz packages torment all opposing offenses. with Nick Wrotten devising converage units and Tims watching any signs of injury, the Coaching staff of the Flames, long in the making, is pretty solid, indeed.

Offensive Starting Eleven
# Name Position Race Age Weight Height Sex
8 Sandil Ren Quarterback Wraith 200 130 5'10" M
71 Thomas Anderson Left Guard Human 24 300 5'9" M
60 Gamek Itta Left Tackle Dwarf 50 275 5'1" M
75 Isaac Larson Center Human 21 310 6' M
68 Erik Hans Right Tackle Human 22 300 5'11" M
72 Jared Carson Right Guard Human 20 285 5'9" M
25 Nao'ren Isildil Running Back Werewolf 20 220 6'1" M
80 Asome Iskar Tight End Changeling 25 150 5'11" F
66 Andre Vans Fullback Treefolk 22 200 5'9" M
84 Joshua Ittenheim Wide Receiver Vampire 19 185 5'10" M
83 Anone Unheim Wide Receiver Human 20 190 5'11" M

A Wraith at the helm? Of course! He's been playing for a long time. Guarding him are four humans and a dwarf. The wide receivers are fast and small. This is a very suitable ground-and-pound offense with big-play capabilities.

Offensive Situational
# Name Position Race Age Weight Height Sex
81 Ryan Hammerhead Wide Receiver Human 22 200 6'2" M
88 Harold Newman Wide Receiver Human 21 190 6'5" M
18 Neo Moren Wide Receiver Human 24 195 6'4" M
89 Vance Carson Tight End Human 20 200 5'10" M
85 Patrick Isgard Tight End Human 22 210 5'9" M
28 Nu'il Ran Running Back Orc 25 225 6'5" M
70 Brian Nelson Offensive Lineman Human 24 350 5'11" M

Offensive Tendencies

Victoria Wells wants this offense to be a run-first, play-action offense. There are five receivers on the roster in case a no-huddle is needed. Sometimes, Wells will throw in six linemen, three tight ends, a fullback, and direct-snap the ball to Nu'il Ran in short yardage situations. This formation is called Hammerhead and is very useful.

Defensive Starting Eleven
# Name Position Race Age Weight Height Sex
50 Quincy Thames Left End Human 22 260 5'10" M
55 Miosi Harold Nose Tackle Tagawachi Demon 300 250 6'5" M
57 Larson Oswald Right End Human 20 285 5'10" M
41 Elemental Demon of Water Left Outside Linebacker Demon ? ? ? M
44 Julia Carter Strong Side Linebacker Human 22 160 5'3" F
43 Mark Noman Weak Side Linebacker Human 24 200 5'8" M
46 Nevin Hansoval Right Outside Linebacker Human 23 210 5'10" M
22 Neallie Janhoven Strong Safety Goblin 20 185 5'8" F
21 Michael Hammond Free Safety Human 22 200 6'2" M
26 Viccini Hansu Cornerback Elf 250 160 6'3" F
29 Nike Valhoun Cornerback Human 22 185 6" M

This group might not be the biggest, but they're mean. They chase after the ballcarrier and dish out some punishing hits. Oh, and don't think the girls don't know how to play - Viccini Hansu is a ballhawk.

Defensive Situational
# Name Position Race Age Weight Height Sex
54 Vince Battle Defensive Lineman Human 20 300 5'9" M
31 Theodore Vicks Safety Human 22 215 5'10" M
33 Nance Hendricks Cornerback Human 24 225 6' M

Battle can sub in and out to make the 3-4-4 be a 4-3-4. The extra secondary are necessary to play the Dime and Nickel packages.

Defensive Tendencies
Nau'kai Vanx believes in solid tackling and stopping the run in order to get the opponent into long yardage situations. This team will swarm around the ball and seek to cause plenty of turnovers.

Special Teams
# Name Position Race Age Weight Height Sex
11 Mark Van Allen Kicker Human 30 160 5'7" M
12 Julius Trotter Punter/Holder Human 23 145 5'9" M
15 Liam Unnson Long Snapper Human 25 155 5'10" M
91 Nymphadora Hellius Kick Returner Elf 212 140 6'0" F
92 Kim Ingard Punt Returner Human 22 150 5'11" F

Mark Van Allen is a beast with booming kicks, and Julius is notorious for coffin corner kicks. Watching Nymphadora dance through the other team never gets old. Field position is key for the Flames, and they handle it well.

If my opponent RP's first, he/she can:
Choose my scorers: Y
Choose scoring events: Y
Godmod scoring events: N
Injure my players: Y, within reason
Godmod injuries: N
Godmod other events: N

FREEDOM'S ALTAR, Yesopalitha - (YP)

Head Coach Jack Chelak was cautiously optimistic of the Flames' chances at this Baptism of Iron Competition when asked about it this morning in Freedom's Altar.

"Well, we have a reputation to live up to," the burly thirty-four year old stated, "With all the other teams having done so well, not making it into the playoffs would be a disaster. I think that we have a pretty solid, tough team, and I hope that we can go far."

The Flames will first take on Zeedom, and then Licentiapascisterra, followed by the Sin Anduin, a bye, and ending with Mapletish. All their matches will be held in New Schmejgland.

"We will run the ball down their throats and then use play-action for the deep plays," commented Victoria Wells, Offensive Coordinator. "I'd like people to stop my Hammerhead formation."

Added Defensive coordinator Nau'kai Vanx, "Turnovers will be the lifeline of this defense, and we hope to cause a lot of them."

Yesopalitha is quickly becoming a rising newcomer in the International scene, but in order to get past the newcomer stage into a mainstay, a team has to start winning, and start winning things that matter. That is the goal of this Flames team = to win something and be remembered in history.

As always, they will have a rabid nation awaiting the report of every score, rooting for them every chance they get.

How far will this team go? Only time will tell.

Journal Entry #1
Date 3-10-12
Time: 9:25:48
Begin Entry

Well it seems, that the Psychologist from the Sorentium Hospital decided since I was one of the 2 female humans that were admitted into the team, should write a journal, because I would probably end up with emotions that I don't know how to handle. She instructed me to write everything I experienced and what I felt about it in here.

Anyways. I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Tereashia Shoneaia, I am 21 years old, a human, and a female. No one else in my team except the Punter, Aleshia Torentine is human or female. They are all abnormals and males. Even the COACHEs are male. The only one that isn't is the team Physcian... but I really can't connect with her, for she is who knows how old, and an elf. She is so I don't know... a "I am holier than you so you should not talk of your petty manners to me" type of gal. Urgh.

I'll tell you a little bit of my team. First are the coaches. They ARE PSYCHOTIC, INSANE, DICTATORS, FROM THE MILITARY, I don't know... THEY RUN US TO THE GROUND! First, our head coach, Well he is a pretty young wraith. Young to their standards. To me... NOT SO MUCH. The whole team has officially nicknamed him, well behind his back, "Drill Seargant". I got less of the brutal treatment from him, but it was still... insane. I am so sore right now, I can barely move my two hands to type this up. From what the others had to do, however, was nothing compared to mine. I had a slice of the cake, so to speak, but they got the whole cake plus the ice cream. Our Assistant Coach isn't much of a help either. He is a centaur, and nicknamed, "Killer". The reason why? We have running drills. That require us to take laps. He will always trail behind us... and even if ONE person lagged behind, well we had another lap to do. Who would know that a 249 year old geezer of a centaur could run that FAST???

Don't tell him I said that... he would kill me. Literally. Our Offensive coaches... the two demons.... they're pleasant. To me anyways. From what I heard of our Offensive players... well let's just say it wasn't a pretty picture. The Defensive players say that they would rather go to an opera house than be with the orc coach, Cap'khrean T'yrechor. I feel sorry for them. Our special teams coach, the Minotaur Stillear Rhieon, is a strict, tough loving coach. I respect him dearly... now if he only let me take off those stupid weights he put on my ankles... urgh. Our Physician... I already explained.

The Offensive people... Well they are nice. As the rest of the team. We bond over how our training is hard or how bad it is to do something... but even so, we, meaning the two girls... are separated by the gender part. Not that they want to... it just is. Anyways. Our Quarterback is a wraith. From what I heard, he can sometimes... and I STRESS sometimes get their coach to cut them some slack. Something about pleading to the head coach, which I guess they are pretty closely related, and that working. He fears that we'll be run down before the tournament even starts.

The wide receivers are an interesting trio. There is a changeling, a vampire, and a half-snake, half-human guy. They work together so well, they seem like triplets. I swear that they don't go anywhere without each other. They are also the pranksters... I hope that they didn't put anymore of that dye on my uniform, or I will personally cut their heads off... URGH.

The tight end is an elf. Surprisingly... he doesn't have the whole "I am better than you" or the "I am holier than you" complex. He's nice. That's all I have to say.

Hm... the offensive line... I am sorry to say is a bit too scary. They are so imposing and threatening looking that they give me the creeps. But I deal when I have to. Emphasizing HAVE TO!

The Defense isn't so bad... I don't really know them much, because they keep to themselves. IT IS so CLICHE. The Defense and the Offense have separated themselves and made cliques. All the Special Teams can blend, but if a linebacker tried to sit with a runningback... all hell breaks loose. We have had exactly 105 foodfights because of this reason. It was sad however. We had to run 20 laps around the stadiums. Stairs and all. Even though the special teams were uninvolved. We had to run. 20 laps. 20 LAPS.

Now the Special teams. Our returners, are an elf and a berzerker. Don't ask or talk to the berzerker if you don't know what to say. He will try to beat you up. He is however, wonderful at blasting through other people. You see... he's simple minded. All he thinks is "Get the ball. Go to End Zone. No MATTER the COST." Some of the ones from high school and universities... got some pretty bad injuries from him. The Elf... UNFORTUNATELY have the complex that he is better than us. One day he is gonna get it from me.

And Finally... My other fellow female. Aleshia. You would think that we would get along... but NO... Since I beat her in the stupid tryouts, she'd decide to make and enemy out of me. I was hopefully thinking we could stick together and become awesome friends. Let's just say that the thought seized the moment she tripped me and made me almost, ALMOST sprain the ankle of the foot I kick with. She is such a retard. I would call her a lot worse, but apparently... the stupid doctor said I shouldn't put "discouraging words that will make you feel depressed" into my journal. Well guess what face I gave him O_O. It didn't work. Sadly.

The Coach expects us to try our best this year. He said, since it's our first time going to a game in the international league, he won't be sad if we didn't make it to the playoffs. HOWEVER. He does expects us to work our BUTTS off. Those were his exact words except for a few choice curse words. I think we are going to do well. And hopefully next year. I won't have to put up with being the only female that can talk. YES. Aleshia doesn't talk to anyone except to the coach... and that is only when she tries to suck up to him to get my position. SHE IS SO ANNOYING.

Well, it's pretty late, and if I don't go to sleep soon... Practice is going to be a helluva.... oh crap. I can't really say that on here can I? URGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! STUPID.

Well gotta go. Bye.

Riptides Pride

"Hi, I'm Valory Hughes, and this is Channel 8 Action News, The Most Popular News Source In Northern Polluxia

Vettrera had a great game the other day as they faced off against Zachrastan. The Riptides won easily with a score of 20-3. In Group 1, Vettrera is only behind Gyatso-kai with a scoring differential of 4. The even weirder thing, is that Vettrera still has released no information on their special teams. During the game, the players were called Greek Letters instead of their names, their uniforms also did not have numbers, just Greek symbols. Theta, Delta, Iota, Zeta, and Kappa, are some known members of Vettrera. The unknown members also wear different uniforms from the rest of the team. In the traditional uniforms Orange is the main color, followed by blue then gray. In the special team uniforms; blue is the main color, followed by gray and orange. The Riptides have promised to release information on the Special Teams, but the mystery may just intimidate other teams enough, to give them an advantage.

1st Quarter Score:
Vettrera: 7 Zachrastan: 0 (VTR:1 TD)
Half Time Score:
Vettrera: 14 Zachrastan: 3 (VTR: 2 TD's, ZACH: 1 FG)
3rd Quarter Score:
Vettrera: 17 Zachrastan: 3 (VTR: 2 TD's, 1 FG, ZACH: 1 FG)
Final:
Vettrera: 20 (2 TD's, 2 FG's Zachrastan:3 (1 FG)

The Riptide's next game will be against Cyborg Holland, a team that has had a first round bye, and is new to American Football. Cyborg Holland is a very balanced team with a decent offense, and defense. Hopefully, Vettrera's offense and Football IQ can overpower their opponents.

Coming Up: Information on the Tropico affecting our twin province: Castor"

Tropico: A very small (in size, not strength) hurricane, approximately the size of one of Vettrera's islands. It is a bizarre, and unique natural disaster.

Mystery surrounds Baptism of Iron, Ipeland win first game
Jagoza, Michael VII

The people of Ipeland watched on with a sense of confusion as they saw their team play in the Baptism of Iron. Having never heard of American Football before, rumours spread about this strange new sport. Of course most of those rumours were made up tosh, but a few were rather accurate. One said that they had to wear helmets, which brought more people into confusion, thinking that this sport was used on wheels.

Of course as the game started, people knew what they would be in for. The Ipeland team was made up of semi-professional Rugby players, and the coach managed a small rugby league team to the top league of the system. Both teams looked nervous as the game started. Ipeland scored a touchdown in the 10th minute after a lot of confused passes by the Ipeland players, who somehow got it over the line and scored a touchdown. Ipeland got the extra point, making the score 7-0 to Ipeland at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was much better played than the first, due to the players actually getting into the game itself. Ipeland scored two field goals, ending the quarter with a score of 13-0. The third quarter contained another touchdown, making the score 20-0 to us. The last quarter is where Ipeland seemed to ease off a little having not as many attacks as last time. Despite this a touchdown (with a two point conversion) made the score 28-0. A final push added another touchdown, ending the game with a 35-0 win for Ipeland.

UKS 'Wolves Wins First Game in BoI 11!

Editorial by Richard Hoke, of the UKS Times

As some of you may already know, the United Kingdom of the Southwest is competing in its first ever Baptism of Iron, an American football competition. The newly formed UKS National Team, otherwise known as the UKS Warwolves, won their first game yesterday with a score of 0-20 against Anetarishka. The UKS offense scored two touchdowns during the game, both ran in by lightning-fast wide reciever Juan Jones. We interviewed Jones after the game, and he said that the offensive line is clicking together nicely, and they'll soon have all the workings smoothly running after the first couple games.
As for the other six points, kicker Greg Scaramouth kicked two field goals on 4th downs during the game. We unfortunately were not able to interview the player, so here's the quarterly scores:

1st Quarter: UKS - 7 Anetarishka - 0
2nd Quarter: UKS - 10 Anetarichka - 0
3rd Quarter: UKS - 13 Anetarishka - 0
4th Quarter: UKS - 20 Anetarishka - 0

We look forward to a good season with the UKS Warwolves.

THE DETROT HERALD

Our boys have started off the Baptism of Fire in THE MOST EXCITING WAY POSSIBLE: A bye. But we seemed to have been placed in quite the odd group; the two matches that were played featured both the biggest blowout and the closest finish. Ipeland showed both their offensive and defensive skills with a 35-0 route of The Royal Kingdom of Quebec, while Carmadin and TaQud showed their equality, with TaQud winning with an overtime touchdown. Next week the Ironworkers will be facing The Royal Kingdom of Quebec, hoping to see a repeat performance out of the apparently lackluster team.

Welcome, Ladies and Gentlemen... To...

THE BIRD BLOG

These are thoughts and musings of a Raven Changeling who flies around Yesopalitha, gathering in the sights and smells. He hasn't been human for such a long time that he has almost forgotten...

Fly, fly, fly, fly, feel the cool wind in the sky. Updraft up, downdraft down, fly, fly, fly. What is that on the ground I see? Twenty-two people running pel-mell into each other... Wonder what it is? Do I have to worry about Vultures coming here soon?

Soar, soar, soar, soar, soar all the way down. Nah... There's a ball involved. Heh. Silly humans. Always doing something with a ball. Well, at least that yellow post looks comfortable!

There's two groups of people... One in red-and-blue, the other in not red-and-blue. There's silly numbers, I think they say something like 15:00.

A loud whistle blows, and the people are... What? One red-and-blue person throws the ball; it falls into the other red-and-blue person's hand before the red-and-blue person who caught the ball gets pummeled... Ouch...

And so they go, back and forth, back and forth... It seems that all the humans want to take the ball to the other-end-of-the-field. I wonder why? Neither seem to be having much success.

Oh, here comes the Red-and-blue. They're stopped, and, HEY! WHY DID YOU KICK THAT BALL AT ME?! Oh... I guess they're supposed to. The scoreboard says 3-0.

And the game goes on... But the sun is out, there are plenty of other birds, and it's mildly entertaining to watch the players and the crowd as they humans play their silly little game.

The not-blue-and-red got one last chance about ten minutes before i left the stadium. The one-that-throws-the-ball threw one that was caught by a red-and-blue that was an elf and returned all the way to the other side. The scoreboard read 10-0 after that, and the not-red-and-blue didn't have any more chances.

I don't get this ball-thing, but the humans seemed to enjoy it. Also, the day was nice... and there were no birds of prey nearby. So, it was a good one for me to see, too.

But fly away I will, fly, fly, fly, back into the wind, where I am free...

[quote="Vettrera";p="8675663"]The Riptides Claim 1st in Their Division

"Hi, Valory Hughes here again, and this is Channel 8 Action News, The Most Popular News Source In Northern Polluxia

As it stands now the Tropico is fully engulfing Castor, there is no way in, or out of the island though. Castor has currently lost a majority of its connection to the outside world. The Tropico is expected to deteriorate in the next three days though.

In other news, the Riptides look like they're making quick work of the Baptism of Iron, as they beat Cyborg Hollond 3-6. Two Field Goals wasn't the most exciting way for the game to go, but a win is a win. The Riptides have promised to release limited information on their special teams in the next two days, but it is unlikely that that will truly happen. For your latest sports news go to bleacherz.vtr

The Bird Blog

Another day, another win for the Red-and-blue. Except this time, they just ran and ran and ran and ran, no matter how much the not Red-and-blue tried to stop them. And then the Red-and-blue kept stopping them. So, the Red-and-blue won.

The Red-and-blue also kicked the ball through today, too, but I was expecting it this time, so it wasn't too bad. The not red-and-blue seemed very sad, but that is why I think humans playing sports is stupid. Someone is always unhappy...

The wind was a bit more choppy today, but I flew okay. And there is something about watching the humans run at each other that is somewhat exciting. I can't put a finger on it. At least they're wearing some protective gear for their fragile bodies.

I'll try to catch the next one, just because it's supposed to be against a team that somewhat plays. How will the Red-and-blue do against the newcomers? Hm?

Who knows?
