DarmeniSoccer.net
Copa de Mercury Preview

When the Darmeni Soccer Federation made the announcement that a multi annual event would be held pitting Darmen and our neighbors Carmadin against each other, we all thought this was a step in the WRONG direction. We all thought that Carmadese soccer was weak, their National Team was ranked almost 30 spots lower than us, their domestic program needed so much help from the DSF, and their U-21's were totally unheard of. But now it looks different. Sure, Carmadin's still ranked lower than us by quite a bit, but their side managed to draw against us at the Cup of Harmony, 1-1, showed us a different Carmadin team.

It was one of quality passing, superb defending, and some pretty decent Goalkeeping. Darmen managed to hang on for the draw, but Manager Mikael Gibbons said, "If they play like this in the Copa de Mercury, we'll surley lose." But Darmen is not planning on taking the game too seriously. Gibbons plans to pull the starters after the first half (the rules for the match allow for up to 11 substitutions), and replace them with the new call ups. Gibbons plans to use the match as an oppritunity to get the new players some experience, and allow them to show off some of their new skills. "We want this to be a good experience for them," says Gibbons. "We'll probably leave (Tor Tong) Lee and (Zach) Preston in for about the first ten minutes of the second half just to make sure the new guys don't get to excited and wet their pants."

Among the new call ups, Francisco Lyons the XXIst, grandson of our Dear Leader, Duke Francisco Lyons the XIXth, who was the captain of the U-21 team, had this to say about the upcoming game, "I'm excited to finally get a chance to prove myself at the highest level. I want to do my hardest to impress Mr. Gibbons, and I hope I score at least one goal. Lyons, who plays Midfielder also said that Gibbons was possibly going to try Lyons out on the front line. "Apparently he thinks I'd be a good striker. I'm not so sure about that, but I'm surley going to give him a chance at trying me there."

Among the other new call ups are Gene Turko, Darmen's all-time leading scorer at the U-21 level, Roberto Gregorio and Sergio Autitore, two very good forwards who specialize in capitalizing on the opponents mistakes, and Fernando Grevsthan, a former Beach Soccer star.

At the U-21 level, the team is going through a rebuilding process. Manager William von Kriesler had a tough job in front of him after serveral of his starters and key substitutes graduated to the National side. " it was really dificult to decide who to bring up, and since we don't have an U-17 side as of yet, it was extremely difficult to judge on talent. We had to rely hugely on the scouting reports of many of the club teams in the DPL. But Kriesler seems to have done a good job. "The back three are the ones we're really counting on. But the Midfield and Front Line also look very strong. Our only real concern is Goalkeeping. Mazari is pretty untested, and we're just not sure if he has the reflexes to keep the shots out. Our other major concern is the bench, it's just not as strong as it is with other teams."

The Women's team will be making it's first appearence in any competition since the Women's Soccer World Cup and the Summer Olympics. The team has played very poorly in the past, and Manager Freeland Deland just wants to keep the game close. "I'm really hoping for a draw. I mean I obviously want the win, but I just don't think it's possible. Our team rely's on Ellen Whitt a little too much, and she doesn't want to be passed the ball every single god forsaken time we've got possesion."

Also making an appearence at this edition of the Copa de Mercury will be the Sterling City Stars. A brand new club in the Darmen Premier League, the Stars roster is not quite filled yet. All of the eight brand new teams in the DPL have had to rely on the twelve major clubs for players. Stars Manager Bob Johnson said, "I hate to have to rely on the major clubs on players. Hopefuly by the time the season roles around we'll have enough players to fill an entire roster." For the Copa de Mercury however, the Stars will get all of their one game loan players from other new teams. The Stars have hopes to finish high in the DPL standings for the 2012 season, and Johnson looks at this game as a good stepping stone for the season to come. "It's good to be able to compete against teams from outside the country, it gives you a chance to look at how your talent stacks up against other teams who play at the same level."

The Darmeni Soccer Federation expects to win the first edition of the Copa de Mercury, as do most Darmeni fans. But across the border the ideas are different. The Carmadese fans are extremely excited. 20,000 seats have been set aside for Carmadese fans at National Stadium for each of the four games, and it's estimated that at least 90,000 Carmadese fans will make the short trip from Carmadin to Darmen City.

We here in Darmen are all rushing to get ready for the festivities of the border battle, and good luck to all of the participants.

Copa de Mercury Preview:

Game 1: Seendok Shells versus Sterling City Stars

This one should be rather close. The Shells are a growing CFL powerhouse, but still a young team. The Stars, however, are a young, new team, with players on loan, and The Shells, the more established team, should take care of them.
With Kihxaw Jahp resting up for the National Team match, backup goaltender Sehm aht Ohlihj will most likely start in net for the Shells, but we will probably see Kihx later in the game

Prediction: Shells 2, Stars 0

Game 2: U-21s

Carmadin's U-21s have been abysmal, sorry to say. The Darmeni Team should handle them, but look for Abo Abo forward Ot'joh Loht to give the Darmeni defense a hard time.

Prediction: Darmen 3, Carmadin 1

Game 3: Women's

The Carmadin women's team has no experience. None. Nada. Zip. This is their first competition. So, we really can't gauge their efectivness, but the Darmeni side should be able to thump them neatly.

Prediction: Darmen 4, Carmadin 0

Game 4: National teams

This is the most heralded, highest, most prestigious match in the CdM, and it will be tough. The historic CoH matchup ended in a draw, of course, and our Carmadins look to avenge that. We say they will. But that may be just cuz were Carmadin

Prediction: Carmadin 2, Darmen 1

TKCTV 1 - Sports

Postby The Kiaser Colonies » Thu Jan 05, 2012 4:52 pm

(OOC: Hope you don't mind if I do a small RP. Sorry if you do)

Jeremy: Hello and welcome to TKCTV 1, I'm Jeremy Paul. Due to the fact that we need to use our government bonus funds before the end of the month, and the Rugby World Cup if started in time still won't use enough funds, Clark Noble and myself have been sent to provide live coverage of The Copa de Mercury between Carmadin and Darmen. This edition, the first, is being held in the National Stadium in Darmen City, Darmen. Clark, how has Darmen City been for you?

Clark: Thanks Jeremy. It's been real good. The weather has been fine and the people are friendly. If they're just as good at football as they are at being good hosts then I don't see why they can't win a game or 2 today.

Jeremy: Well it's a bit early for that now, their opponents are no push over. Their neighbours and visitors Carmadin have shown they posses plenty of footballing class. Their men's national side just finished 3rd in the Copa Rushmori like we did last time, hopefully their good run lasts a bit longer than ours. Now to today's first match between the Sterling City Stars of Darmen and the Seendok Shells of Carmadin. Clark?

Clark: Ohh. I can't wait for this one Jeremy. The top 2 clubs from each nation. This should be a really exciting encounter. Seendok have one or to national team stars and plenty of other good strong players. Sterling City are an impressive young side and have lots of strength in depth without need for fancy national side players. With Seendok's main keeper resting for the big men's national team clash, the powerful attack of Stirling City may be able to get at least 1 goal. It's a tough one to call but I think that the Seendok Shells should win 3-2.

Jeremy: We'll just have to see if you're right because here come the teams. They're ready now and there's the kick-off.

....................................................................................................

Jeremy: And there's the whistle. Full time and a surprising full time score of Sterling City Stars 4, Seendok Shells 0. Clark, what went wrong for Seendok?

Clark: It's not so much about Seendok being bad, more that Stirling City were outstanding in midfield and attack and that the substitute keeper was on his own without much from his defence. Stirling City harldy ever let Seendok near their defence and as a result they couldn't get much on target and trouble the keeper enough. Then when Sterling City got the ball in midfield it was soon up with their forwards and they tore the defence apart. They were constantly pressurizing him with shots and eventually he cracked. He made 17 quality saves though, but with 21 shots on target in a game, you're almost always going to find the opposition getting a goal. Seendok will just have to regather and prepare for the next domestic season and work on their midfield a bit. That's where the game was lost today.

Jeremy: Indeed. Now to our next feature, the U21 game between Darmen and Carmadin.....

(OOC: Sorry could only do this much. Got to go)

(OOC: really sorry, I had to go to a funeral, and forgot. Sorry!!!!!!)

Kihxaw Jahp sat, utterly defeated. Why? Why? Why? Why did the world have to torture him like this? Why couldn't his teams pull through when it counted, when the Copa de Mercury was on the line. Why was Carmadin so disorganized? The coach hadn't even been able to get the names of the skills competition contestants in time, his own among them. And, of course, Darmen had dominated the CdM's first edition. His wife had done well, the Women's team secured Carmadin's only glory in the cup, but there were some things that were unexcusable. The Shells, losing 4-0. The skills competition failure. And now this. A crushing loss to Darmen, 1-0. It was more than a terrible gaffe on his part, allowing Tor Tong Lee (ooc: I'll change that if you want) to score from outside the box. it was a ball he should have stopped. A save he should have made. Instead, the ball floated into the net, ending Carmadin's hopes for CdM glory. At least Darmen hadn't won the Crown of Flames (ooc: I'm thinking that will be awarded if a nation sweeps the CdM, 4-0), the women's team had seen to that. Of course, if they had to lose, he would have preffered they go down fighting, losing in a shootout after tying the Copa 2-2. But, some things couldn't be helped, god damn it. This was a bit of a demorilizing loss. He grimly stood up. Time to focus on the Champion's Cup.
