Drum Corps?

Postby Bluth Corporation » Fri Sep 04, 2009 12:00 pm

Some time back, I ran a drum & bugle corps circuit...it disappeared when I had to disappear from NS due to computer problems, and I never bothered to restart it (the way it was going, it probably would have fizzled out due to lack of participation anyway).

I figured I'd ask now, several months later, who (if anyone) might be interested in participating in a drum & bugle corps tour/championship.

I'd be interested! Although wouldn't this be better suited to NationStates?

Delaclava: Well, when we had it in the past we ran it basically under the same paradigm as other sports...RP bonus, scorination, etc.

YESS! DO IT
I think we should have to find marching music as part of our scoring though.

Just a quick modly note that I have no problem with this event being run in NS Sport for the very reasons Bluth cites.

And besides, if - without meaning to be in any way derogatory towards this event - if ice dancing, cheerleading, and ballroom dancing can be 'sports', then why not a drum and bugle corps circuit?

What do you mean, exactly? You mean the use of explicit "marches" in the program?

While there's nothing wrong with using them if one wants to, I don't see the advantage to making it mandated. Even in the (real-life) VFW/AL era in the US, the use of marches was uncommon after about the 1950's or so, when the St. Vincent Cadets were doing Colonel Bogey and/or the Triumphal March from "Aida" every single year.

Interesting, although I'd like to see if an alternative circuit for competitive marching bands (kind with full ensamble of woodwinds and other instruments) is possible

I find this extremely funny due to your dropping out of Marching band.
