Well folks, it's tournament time. The First International Gordonopia Cup is about to begin. The entrants will receive free flights to Gordonopia and to their competition cities via Union Global Airlines. Eight teams are in this competition, and the matches will be fierce. This is our second international tournament, so we hope to exceed our results in the first. Grasshoppers Turic announce squad to compete in the Gordonopia Cup

Today, the manager of Grasshoppers Turic - Karl Heinz-Grichenbauer - announced the 23 man squad to compete in the Gordonopia Cup. The squad is made up of a mixture of the regular first team and talented youngsters seeking to stake a claim for a place in the first team.

Heinz-Grichenbauer has surprisingly included four academy graduates from the summer, in the squad. Highly talented winger Jerome Johnson has already been tipped as one for the future, with many mentioning him as a future Osarian national starter. Team captain Oswaldo Garabona has already expressed that the youngster shows promise. "Jerome is a talented player, and in the matches we played together in pre-season, I was surprised to see a young player have such good movement. He will become a key player in future. Also, he came off the bench against Sokojito Dosi Gyulhabdwen in the Globe Cup to score. He cannot be underestimated at all. He has a lot of potential." Speaking with regards to the absence of regular captain Tay Gidds, the manager was a little more coy. Some pessimistic fans have remarked on his absence however, suggesting he may be unsettled, or due to make a move to another team, but the manager suggests there is nothing to fear. "Tay has not been included in the squad due to a niggling injury he picked up in training... He should be O.K. in time for the start of the new season." Whatever the truth, they will no doubt be hoping that Grasshoppers can put in some good performances during the tournament. Academy graduate Zheng Yu steps up a grade to fill in for Gidds, and the full squad is as follows:

Expert's opinion on Grasshoppers

Heinz-Grichenbauer has put together a strong squad with a nice mixture of enthusiastic youth and cultured experience. The likes of Shure and Maltes in particular will be a good influence on young Collestinio and academy graduate Zheng Yu. The young defender was a key component in the Turic Academy defence which picked up the prestigious King's Trophy at the end of last season. Equally, vice captain Nigel Shure led the team for a month while usual captain Tay Gidds and talismanic attacking midfielder Garabona were both out injured. During that time, Turic conceded just one goal, which came against eventual league champions Firewood City. The manager's faith in his defense is a key point in his tactics.

The midfield is built around the acting captain, the skillful and creative Oswaldo Garabona. The diminutive midfielder was at the heart of over half of the goals scored by the potent strikeforce of Atkinson and Bonjasky last season. His piercing runs through defences have also suckered many a defender into committing fouls. From the resulting free kicks, the "pocket rocket" has scored enough goals to strike fear into the hearts of goalkeepers from 30 yards.

Not to be counted out are the wingers Lebanner and Rupert. Both are capable of switching flanks, and both have good crossing. With their pinpoint crosses finding the head of their battering ram forward, Raymon Bonjasky - who is one of the most dangerous strikers in the air in all of Osarius - you can count on goals from Turic. Bonjasky is never alone either, the intelligent movement of pacy strike partner Dean Atkinson - with whom he seems to have a psychic connection - means that defenders often have a nightmare covering the two. It is no surprise that they terrorised King's League defences last season, netting a total of 39 goals between them, half of Turic's total.

With emerging talents like Gremio, whose mazy runs are reminiscent of his mentor, Garabona; and Jerome Johnson, whose raw pace has left many a defender for dead, available to call on from the bench, Heinz-Grichenbauer also has strength in depth, as well as flexibility. This flexibility may prove crucial in tighter matches, or if the unthinkable should happen, and a key player picks up an injury.

It is likely that Turic will challenge... However, they must be careful that their defence does not get exposed when they send the fullbacks forward, as they like to. A lot of pressure is on Shure and Jones - covering for captain Gidds - at the back, as well as Mitsubara, whose job it is to protect them.

Fans can expect an entertaining show from their team, it the very least. However, against unknown commodities such as these, it is impossible to predict how the OFA Cup runners up will fare.

After an excellent first match that ended with a 3-1 victory over the Liohan Ramp Lions, Gordonopia FC is ready to face its next opponents back to back in our home stadium, Gordonopian Enterprises Arena. By luck of the draw, we'll be able to face Api Api, and Grasshoppers Turic at our home stadium where, hopefully, we'll come out on top. In the match, our scorers, Howard Hawkins and Brandon Jumpa, did an excellent job, and our starting goalie didn't let a goal in. Hopefully, we'll come out on top of our next games.

Lanesra FC suffered their first lost at the hands of Post-modernity FC and sit bottom of the group. The manager Peter Woolsey says: "It was our first game and we lost. However, I am not ashamed at all as we are the first Docky Club side to play a club from another nation, and we are representing Docky on a worldwide stage, we cannot expect to come first with so little experience, we just need to get a name for ourselves and have fun."
Dockians are still thought to be hopeful that Lanesra can get off the bottom of the group and fight against the big teams. On the upside, Scott Coupland and Tom Garrick were given raving reviews, and clubs from overseas are starting to have a look at them. Coupland has said: "I dream of one day playing in a high quality league. Don't get me wrong, Docky is my homeland and I love it, but with only 4 teams competing in the league, it doesn't challenge me enough to improve my game. But that is in the future, and right now I need to be representing Lanesra and doing my utmost for them."

All of Docky will still be spurring Lanesra on all the way!

[Barnettsville]

The debut of the Barnettsville soccer team was a mixed bag today at Gordonopia Enterprises Arena. They did not lose the match; however, they didn't win either. Keeper Kyle Norris made eight saves on eight shots, including a diving save in the eighty-eighth minute. The Saints' best chances were a beautiful cross-pitch pass from Jonathan Bell to Keith Pittman that was saved in the sixteenth minute, and a breakaway opportunity by Victor Bennett that hit the crossbar and went off the pitch in the seventieth minute. Both squads are now 0-0-1 and have one point each in the group.

After yet another excellent matchday, Gordonopia FC has defeated the Liohan Ramp Lions 2-1 at our home stadium, Gordonopian Enterprises Arena. We remain on top of the standings, and are now guaranteed a spot in the Semi-Finals. That means that we will be facing Api-Api, who are also guaranteed a spot, twice in a row at Gordonopian Enterprises Arena. Our scorers during the game, Derrick Mullholand and Brandon Jumpa scored in the 14th and 64th minute respectively. Unfortunately, Max Wysong, our starting Right Midfielder, was given a red card during the game. He will be replaced by Darren Cox. We wish Api-Api the best of luck.

Disappointing show for Grasshoppers
A second narrow defeat in the International Gordonopia Cup has condemned the OFA Cup runners up to elimination, regardless of the result of their forthcoming match against the Liohan Ramp Lions. Manager Karl Heinz-Grichenbauer has expressed frustration at his team's inability to keep the goals from leaking in. "We have played some good football, but there are little mistakes we have made. These mistakes cost goals." However, the Turic native has refused to blame the absence of captain Tay Gidds. When asked if he felt this might have been a possible influence on the performance of his team, he replied "Of course. But I do not think it is right to say that one player - even Tay - can make that much of a difference. The team miss him, but there are other players who are more than capable of filling in. Now I just hope we can finish well against the Ramp Lions."

Jerome Johnson, named as the one to watch for Grasshoppers before the tournament, has not lit up the competition so far, appearing for only the last twenty minutes of the defeat against Gordonopia. However, the young winger did look sharp and caused some problems late in the game for the home side's defence. Unfortunately, he did not have enough time to turn the game around.

With only pride left to play for, it is thought that Turic will field a younger side for the final game, in an attempt to get more experience for the younger members of the side.

[Barnettsville]

In a disppointing showing for the young Saints squad, St. Catherine lost to Lanesra FC today two to nil at Celeron Stadium. Jake Kennedy, coach of the Saints, angrily grumbled in the post-match news conference that young Kyle Norris, who looked in this game to know nothing in regards to stopping shots, will be replaced in the now-all important game three by backup goalkeeper Brian Larson. The Saints will be facing Post-Modernity FC at Tolten Automotive Arena. Qualifying for the semifinals will be extremely difficult; the Saints must now hope New Portsmouth defeats Lanesra, and win by at least one more than Lanesra does.

Lanesra got their first win of the tournemant against St Catherine of Barnettsville, grabbing a 2-0 victory. Lanesra are now 2nd in the table going into a last game of the group against New Portsmouth from Palmouth.

Lanesra's Scott Coupland played an important part in the game, and was awarded the man of the match from Lanesra. "I was delighted with my individual performance, buy it was really the team which helped me out. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't get anyone giving me the ball! No, seriously, we really have to concentrate for the game against New Portsmouth. As soon as that whistle blew, preparation began. This is arguably the biggest game a Dockian team has ever played in."

The manager doesn't want to comment, as he doesn't want the media to affect his team. But we will support you all the way, whether you like us or not!

We are very excited about today's results. Our 2-0 win over Api-Api is our first shut-out of the tournament. In addition, it will put our team, and our fans, in good spirits for a rematch against Api Api at the same arena. Howard Hawkins and Lincoln Beal scored, in the 13th and 48th minute respectively, but the opposition nearly scored in the 81st minute, but an incredible save by Ludwig Strauss, our goalie, prevented a potential comeback. POST-MODERNITY FC IN GORDONOPIA CUP'S SEMIFINALS

With a great campaign, Post-Modernity FC will play the semifinals of 1st International Gordonopia Cup. Lyotard, the greatest star in the team, doesn't want to gibe further comments. "This is so metanarrative!", he said.

The inagural foray into international football for the St. Catherine Saints ended with a bittersweet 3-2 victory over the New Portsmouth Blues today. With the win, they had put themselves in position to advance to the semifinals; those hopes were dashed when Lanesra FC defeated Post-Modernity by the same score. DJ Hall (27' and 57') and Tim Strong (90' injury time) scoredgoals for the Saints, and reserve keeper Brian Larson stopped 9 of 11 Blues shots. Their next games will be in the IV Summer Olympics in Aeropag.

Lanesra FC are through to the next round of the 1st International Gordonopia Cup, after a 3-2 victory against New Portsmouth Blues.

Lanesra, despite losing their first game, won both of their last 2 games against St Catherine Saints and New Portsmouth Blues. The Docky Football Federation (DFF) recently arranged a tournaments for the champions of leagues, and New Portsmouth Blues and Lanesra will both be in that tournemant. This game is likely to have boosted their morale, with the start of the tournemant on 21st September.

Lanesra striker Lee Beesley grabbed two in this game, and spoke to the media after the match. "We are delighted to have got past the group stages. We weren't even expecting close, just to get Docky recognised. But to get through, and on equal points with Tatuape's Post Modernity FC who came first, is a brilliant achievement.
"As far as the Nationstates Champions Cup is concerned, that is a completely different tournament. Teams, no Champions, from all around the world will be participating. The team agrees that hosting the tournament and running it efficently and succesfully, is more important than winning."

Lanesra FC are likely to be seeing anything else as a bonus from here, but they have already done us more than the justice. They have done us proud. Fan at game:

Gordonopia FC is extremely pleased to announce that we have made it to the final round of the 1st International Gordonopia Cup. Today's Semi-Final match, a tough 3-2 victory over Api Api in which we scored the final goal in the 81st minute, was incredible. The 150,000 seat arena was packed with fans, and almost every seat had a Gordonopia FC fan. Hopefully, it will be the same for the final match against Lanesra FC. We wish to congratulate Api Api and Post Modernity FC for their excellent show, and we wish the best of luck to all remaining teams for the final matches.

Lanesra are through to the final!

Lanesra beat Post-Modernity FC 1-0 to book their place in the final against hosts Gordonopia FC. The goal came from Nick Robinson late in the game, and celebrated by dancing with the corner flag. "I was so filled with emotion I completely lost control of my actions. That was the first thing that popped into my head."
Captain Jack McGovern, who has featured in every single minute of the tournament so far, made a vital clearance off the line less than minutes before Nick's goal, and had this to say on Lanesra's triumph: I completely can't believe we got to the final of the tournament. All the hard work from the lads, the backroom staff, and every single fan who has come to watch us, has paid off. We're not aiming for a victory here, we've achieved tenfold what we expected or aspired to at the start of the tournament. And to show guts and determination to overcome Post-Modernity, who had already beaten us once, was a great achievement. They've put their name down for the Nationstates Champions Cup, and possibly playing them again will be a great game."
