How does the ranking work? Because of my preformance in WBC42, will I have (21) or something around my name for the next WBC?

Yes, next season you will have a rank. Since you have never played in the Classic before, you start out unranked, and then the ranking system is a way of giving the loyal returning members a better chance of winning. People who RP a lot and have been around a while will likely work their way up in the ranks and have that much of an advantage against its opponents.

The way that the ranks are determined is by a formula that is outlined in the WBC Constitution, Article V:
WBC Constitution wrote:
Article V: Formula for World Rankings

Section 1: For each Classic, divide the number of games a team won by the number of games played by the team playing the most games.

Section 2: A team's ranking is the sum of:
Clause a. Four times their Section 1 quotient for the most recently completed Classic;
Clause b. Twice their Section 1 quotient for the next-most-recent completed Classic; and
Clause c. The unmodified Section 1 quotient for the third-most-recent completed Classic.

Section 3: When calculating the rankings, any games won due to forfeit are still treated as bona fide wins.

At the end of the season, ranks will be redetermined, and the new world ranks will be released. Here is an example of what the ranks look like: here is the spreadsheet showing the current ranks. Based off of your season, I would estimate that you would fall into about the 27-32 rank range, and then if you participate in the next two Classics, that would increase dramatically, likely putting you in the top 15 if you RP consistently.

This is just my opinion, but it seems a bit excessive to spend so many days on the play-in round.

May have been better as a round of 20. And thats something that may need to be looked into if there is an influx of teams or 8 groupings and increase the number of teams in each group so it progress to round of 16.

I haven't minded the extra time, especially those who have sent delegations off to the Winter Olympics.

But its one more day to we move onto the round of 16?

Well, it really depends on how the groups were drawn by the host/s. This case, we had 9 groups of six, so FFR had to work on 18 teams making the playoffs, and he just had to perform algebra to determine how the teams will be distributed to a round of 16 and to a play-in round. The maths had 14 teams advance to the round of 16 and 4 teams having a play-in round. If he wanted 20 teams to advance, then he would have to get the two best third placers, but that would be the hosts' preference and prerogative.

Schiltzberg wrote:This is just my opinion, but it seems a bit excessive to spend so many days on the play-in round.

Though I agree to have the play-in round be a best of three instead, provided the format of the playoffs will not much impact how the ranks of the teams will be determined when a best-of-x are increased or reduced to a best-of-y.

---

I was planning to have the first uniform I had when I debuted at WBC 26 as throwback to my latest RP, but the images that time were hosted by Imageshack, and since they purged them and I had no physical drive to back them up (I had two to three disk failures so I was not able to recover any of them), I turned to the next edition for the throwback unis, which would also be fitting, as I've thought that FFR co-hosted the 27th WBC... but turned out it was the user's another IC nation (Saintland) that co-hosted it with Maklohi Vai.

Bottomline is, should any WBC nation participating in this edition (and maybe the next ones) want a similar throwback uniform and still have the image (at most WBC 30 maybe), then you can TG my main account and we'll discuss it from there.

My star player Jeff "Ducky" Fitzhugh has had his contract expire for my domestic league team the Beyren Captains. He is open to signing with teams from other leagues, so I would love to see some people RP contract offers for him. I spent like three hours making that Baseball-reference style chart of his statistics, and you will notice that they are very good. I came up with them by giving him similar numbers to Albert Pujols in his prime, adjusted to a 180-game season, using a randomizer to shuffle the numbers up a bit. Refer to my RP for more details, and I would love to start a sort of back and forth RP between several nations, similarly to how it was when Super-Llamaland's ace pitcher's contract ran out a couple seasons ago and a few nations were bidding for him. IC I will decide whose domestic league gets Fitzhugh, or if there are no good offers, he will stay in Schiltzberg. :P

If we survive today, we'll offer something!
Looks like he'd enjoy playing in a league that'll let him show his wheels that he has based on the 3B/SB numbers in addition to this other abilities, like the ENBL does. ;)

BTW: Did you just use a spreadsheet for that, or was there a website kicking around that you could just create charts like that? Baseball stat geeks like me want to know!

Thank you to everyone who has interest in this. I will give an update on what offers I have received in my RP tonight. Newmanistan, I created the stats thing using Google sheets, so nothing too fancy, but if you wanted to make a similar spreadsheet, Google Sheets is nice, because you can add formulas so that it calculates a lot of the stats for you, such as batting average, obp, slugging, etc, and you do not have to necessarily calculate every single box.
