The Newmanistan rotation laughs heartily at this.
Especially Courtney Duvall. You'll learn. :p

I'm still having nightmares about this.

You're certainly more than welcome to have them sponsor your nation's broadcast coverage of the tournament and sponsor coverage in other nations that are willing to go along with that.

I've actually hosted tournaments before where all of the groups had sponsors and I usually have sponsors for my cutoffs though these sponsors are usually Republican companies or companies that have significant IC business interests in my nation (mostly companies from my various puppets). If you want to sign a title sponsor deal for one of my host ballparks (there's going to be 19 in total, one for each of the 18 playoff series and a 19th one to host tiebreaker games), I think that'd be a compelling collaborative RP.

As for a full "Prariean Airlines World Baseball Classic" or "World Baseball Classic sponsored by Pomeii Industries" type of deal, I think that's something that should be saved for whenever you end up hosting a WBC (I actually co-hosted the WBC for the first time around 6 months after I started out in NS Sports and after hosting a few smaller events in the lead-up to that).

I have no idea how cut offs work. But I thought that cut offs where instant and then you calculate the RP bonus and you add that to the score calculation?

Yes, but most hosts have a "window" of when they'll cut off. The cutoff itself is instant, but hosts will only do it without about an hour or so, just do that it's not too early or too late for what people are expecting.

Does this mean the whole schedule is shifted back one day, but otherwise the same as you originally posted? Or will it be some other arrangement like losing one of the off days?

Is there a set rule in the World Baseball Classic about the number of in-character years that take place between Classics, or do we have free reign on that?

There is no set rule on it. People can decide independently how much time happens between each classic, 1 year, 2 years, 4 years, whatever. Of course this is a little weird because of players aging but we all kind of ignore it. This is what we call "fluid time."

Basically you have free reign on how it is for your nation.

There are so many other unrealistic things going on in this forum, I don't think players not aging normally is going to be the thing that breaks suspension of disbelief.

I’m assuming that the park factor isn’t broken out into runs and home runs, or a park that is very deep, not allowing a lot of homers, but with a lot of space, there’s more room for extra base hits, so it doesn’t suppress runs as effectively. To get even more granular, there are different park factors for LHB and RHB, such as Yankee stadium being a paradise for left handed power hitters, but not as friendly to righties. Do you have any plans to expand on this in future editions of Baseinator?

I'd estimated it would take 2 hours to post my roster, read all the rosters and RPs, set up the scorinator, scorinate and post results. It was actually closer to 3 hours. Fortunately, all I have to do going forward is read RPs, scorinate and post the results so it shouldn't take as long. My cutoffs going forward should actually occur during the cutoff window.

I think that'd be going into too much detail for a scorinator. If I were to go down that path, at some point you might as well just "scorinate" the WBC with OOTP instead since it is a more realistic model of baseball.

I may tweak the way style mods and park factors are implemented and/or change the default constants but I think most of the future improvements to Baseinator I envision are related to ease of use.

I like the concept of modeling park factors in more detail, but there are limits to the level of realism you can achieve without the park factor influencing people's chance of winning, and it seems like you were purposely avoiding a situation where park factors would favor one team over another. If you have a park that favors left-handed hitters, for example, that would pose problems because people could use it to give themselves an advantage, and you'd have to figure out what to do with teams that didn't tell you which side their batters bat from.

If you did go down this road, maybe you could set something up where people can give themselves a home field advantage, but they'd be penalized in their away games to balance it out. And leave it up to players to explain why their team does better at home -- whether it's a lefty-friendly park and a roster full of left-handed batters, biased umpires, a local rain god that makes it rain in the top of every inning, etc.

If this would be too difficult to implement fairly, you can ignore the suggestion. I'm just tossing ideas out there.

Thanks for the response. Just wondering.

Also, this is just a reminder to individuals participating in WBC 42 to post IC material in the IC thread, and OOC reactions and such in the WBC Discussion Thread. If I'm out of line and this is FFR's responsibility or something, then I apologize. Just noticing a couple of things in the IC thread.
