Did a quick check, and unless it happened in one of the 11 tournaments prior to the switch to the current forums, then no it hasn't. In fact, it hasn't even been remotely close since 2011, when WBC 20 ended about two weeks after the World Series. The other close-ish call came in 2009, when WBC 13 finished a bit over two weeks before the World Series (that tournament did end the same day as the NLCS though).

There were not any that ended on the same day as the World Series in WBCs 1-11 either, nor were there any that were particularly close. The only one that ended somewhat close to the World Series was WBC 4, which ended November 15, 2007, and the World Series that year ended October 28, so it was about three weeks difference.

I thought we wanted to make history with both this and the real WS ending tonight?

Even though the WBC didn't end on the same day as the World Series, at least the WBC will be playing a game 7 less than 24 hours after game 7 of the World Series. Its great to see successful WBC after successful WBC.

I'm pretty sure I saw talk about reviving domestic baseball a few pages back and I'd definitely be interested in taking another look at Baseinator and finally implementing the domestic league feature (scorinating leagues in a single go) that was left out of the original version. I also have some usability upgrades planned (mostly aimed at making it easier to host tournaments with Baseinator), but since they'd likely take more time to implement, they'll probably end up in future versions.

Not sure if I'll be returning in the next WBC or not at this point (depends on whether I have the time to be active) but I'm definitely going to be active in the WBC again at some point.

How fitting that such a great series should go to a game seven! I think you could make a good argument that tonight's game will be the most significant game in WBC history.

I mean, if you want to be technical, the Astros were not awarded the trophy until after midnight, so you can say that they both happen on the same day?

IC, Schiltzberg just canned their skipper who brought them the four championships. That means that I am currently looking for a manager, so if anybody else wants to use Robert Evans as their manager or has a manager for me to use, telegram me, and we could RP about it next season.

Congratulations again to Newmanistan on the fifth WBC title, and thank you once again to everyone who participated for making this tournament a ton of fun to host. Below, I've included what should be the up-to-date rankings including WBC 41, though somebody might want to run through the numbers and check my math to make sure everything is correct.

Congratulations to Newmanistan on winning a record fifth title! What an amazing team to watch, as they have grown back to their previous level of dominance just four seasons into their return. This is quite an accomplishment!

He's the guy who led Schiltzberg to come back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 against Maklohi Vai in the WBC 33 finals and then did it again against Frenline Delpha in the WBC 36 semifinals. He is the only manager to lead his team to eliminate The Great Pond. He is also the only manager to lead his team to four titles in five seasons. Not any notable blown 9th innings that I can remember. If you want him, he's yours. Just telegram me for the details or whatever.

It's disappointing to drop from first all the way to fourth. Dang. I knew I should have RPed. Wonderful job hosting though, Equestrian States. Nice job.
