Thanks to Newmanistan for the condolences on the death of Allen Talos. For those of you who have been around for a while, Talos has been around since WBC 27, my debut, and he has written over 75 columns about either the WBC or the IBS that appeared on NS (obviously thousands ICly). He's an institution in Nova Anglican sports, and everyone is sad to see him go.

While putting my roster together, I believe I found a mistake in the schedule. For MDs 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30, the game between the first and fifth team is always listed as 1 v 5 and never 5 v 1. For my roster, I assumed that 10, 20 and 30 should be my home games (since that would be the more balanced schedule) but I'll edit my roster accordingly if that's not the case.

Fixed. It is 5 v 1 at 10, 20 and 30, so you're assumption was correct!

My apologies for the longer lag time between cutting off and posting scores. Wife called just as I loaded up xkoranate, and for those of you who aren't married yet.... those conversations can drag, especially this time of year.

Do you get an RP bonus for that?

Also, sorry for lack of activity. My laptop charger broke and now I'm stuck on my phone, so it's impossible to write a roster or RP. New charger is ordered though.

It is good that you are role playing a lot, but if you really want to have success, you will need to make your role plays a lot longer and a lot more elaborate, because that is how you will get the maximum role play bonus.

Ah, ok. How does RP bonus work exactly?

It depends on who is hosting it, but generally how it works is that the host will grade your role play, and will give you a certain number of points that will help you to do better in the future, and you will get more points if you write a more elaborate role play. For example, a very short, simple role play will still get you points, but not as much as a detailed, elaborate role play will. It is still good to role play, even if it is short, because you will still get points, and the only way that you can lose points is if you break rules (like not staying in character). I'm not the best one to ask, but if anyone else wants to add anything to this.

Personally, the only thing I'd ever award negative RP bonus for would be repeated spamming of the IC thread(s) even after multiple reminders not to do that. If somebody breaks RP permissions and refuses to correct it, I'd award 0 RP bonus. There is one other case in which I'd reduce RP bonus (or even strip a team of its rank completely), namely posting in the results thread of a tournament that has a separate results thread when you're not a host, a moderator or a 3rd party scorinator posting results on behalf of a host.

As for RP length, I should point out that hosts typically grade RPs on the basis of quality rather than quantity so a longer RP does not necessarily mean a larger RP bonus (but obviously an RP consisting of just one or two sentences probably isn't going to be very good). On the other hand, long doesn't necessarily mean good. Tactics like Spaaming and Eizening don't work anymore (note: that link is to an archive of NS-Wiki from 2007).

Better then about half the nations who haven't done anything. Other then that, follow the advice you got from Schiltzberg.

I am pretty much like this. All RP's get a minimum of .01 bonus from me. I always give someone something for at least hitting the submit button. I've never run into the situation that FR described of someone posting in the results thread deliberately, but yes, if someone wants to test that when I am hosting, I will reset the entire rank/RP value to zero.

I am very much a quality over quantity host. Longer doesn't necessarily mean better. I'm always looking to see how a nation is making use of the information that is available to them and on that token there is one nation RP'ing now that is probably getting a higher bonus per RP then some could think as they aren't necessarily "long" RPs.

Better then about half the nations who haven't done anything. Other then that, follow the advice you got from Schiltzberg.
