It appears xkoranate incorrectly applied the tiebreakers in Group A. The first tiebreaker is Head to Head results, which should've placed Drawkland in first, Cassadaigua in second, and South Americanastan in third. This error has been corrected with the proper three-way tie procedure, and the playoff matchups with Group A teams have been swapped around.

Besides that, everything looks good regarding the playoff structure. Remember the All-Star break is tonight, so post in the next 9 hours or so if there's a player or two you want to hype up to make the roster.

Thank you very much! I've gotten good feedback on them, and it's made the extra bit of work worth it. Unfortunately making 10 signs exhausted all my ideas, so don't expect them to continue through the playoffs :p

I'm sorry, I'm sure I'm not the first to ask this question. Is it possible to switch you style modifier halfway into a tournament? I don't necessarily want to, just curious if that's something there's precedent as it could represent a significant substitution or a mixing up of strategy.

There is no style mods in baseball, so you can change it whenever you want. Usually, one switch is allowed per tournament.

This is my 1000th forum post. Time to celebrate the way you do in South Newlandia.

I hereby make the following amendment proposal to the World Baseball Classic Constitution.

AMENDMENT PROPOSAL: To Article IX: Hall of Fame

The article currently reads as follows:
Section 1: In order to recognize excellent achievements through the storied history of the longest running tournament of the four North American sports, and to recognize the nations who helped make it that way, this council seeks to establish a Hall of Fame.

Section 2: There are three ways to reach the Hall of Fame. The first is to reach 20 points through a scale that awards points based on how well a nation did in previous World Baseball Classics. Nations that achieve 20 points are automatically inducted without the need for a council vote. The following scale gives the number of points scored per result in previous World Baseball Classics:
6 points per championship
4 points for a runner-up
2 points for third place
1 point for fourth place
3 points for hosting
4 points for WBC President (Full cycle; 3 WBCs)
2 points for partial presidency (Less than a full cycle)

Section 3: The second way to reach the Hall of Fame is to have participated in ten World Baseball Classics (this applies to users, and not specifically nations). However, the entrance may not take place if the nation in question has less than ten points. The nations meeting these qualifications will be voted on by the World Baseball Classic council, and if they receive a majority plus one of the votes, then they shall be admitted to the Hall of Fame.

Section 4: If a nation or person behind said nation is denied into the Hall of Fame after ten WBCs, their membership into the Hall of Fame shall again be looked at in increments of five. This means that if a nation doesn’t make it into the Hall of Fame in ten World Baseball Classics, they may be eligible to enter the Hall of Fame again after participating in fifteen, twenty, twenty-five, etc. World Baseball Classics, provided they have ten points.

Section 5: The third way for a nation to be elected into the Hall of Fame is by nomination. A World Baseball Classic council member or any nation who participated in WBC 1-20 may nominate any nation that has more than 10 points and less than 20 points to be potentially voted into the Hall of Fame. After receiving nomination, the entire council will vote on whether or not the nation should be elected into the Hall of Fame, and if the nation receives 50%+1 of the votes of the council, then that nation is inducted into the Hall of Fame. There is no requirement regarding the number of seasons participated in for a nation to be nominated in this way.

Section 6: In the case that a nation that is up for a vote for its entry into the Hall of Fame is also an incumbent member of the World Baseball Classic council, that nation shall not be allowed to vote for itself in the election and shall be required to abstain from voting.

Section 7: Hall of Fame membership is to be one nation per person, as to not load down the Hall of Fame with puppets.

Section 8: Inductions into the Hall of Fame will take place after each WBC, if any nation not already in the Hall of Fame has met one of the above listed criteria. Multiple, different nations can be inducted at one time.

Section 9: A nation that has Ceased to Exist (hereby referred to as CTE) may still be admitted into the Hall of Fame if they had enough points to qualify for the Hall of Fame before they CTE.

Section 10: Nations that are recognized as being a politically constituent part of a main nation will have their points added to the main nation’s total. Two nations shall be considered constituent if one inherited the rank of the other while participating in a WBC. Puppets that are not connected in character to the main nation of any user may not contribute to the main nation’s point total. Such puppets may not earn points themselves, unless the master nation under control of the same user does not have above ten points.

This is largely only concerning the establishing of the WBC Hall of Fame, and does not reflect the way it currently operates. This proposal seeks to bring in the Constitution in line with applied practise.

Here is my proposed re-write, indicating removed sections in red, and newly added sections in green:

Section 1: In order to recognize excellent achievements through the storied history of the longest running tournament of the four North American sports, and to recognize the nations who helped make it that way, this council seeks to establish has established a Hall of Fame.

Section 2: There are three ways to reach the Hall of Fame. The first is to reach 20 points through a scale that awards points based on how well a nation did in previous World Baseball Classics. Nations that achieve 20 points are automatically inducted without the need for a council vote. There is one way for nations that have not been entered into the Hall of Fame before the end of WBC56 to enter the Hall of Fame. The following scale gives the number of points scored per result in previous World Baseball Classics:
6 points per championship
4 points for a runner-up
2 points for third place
1 point for fourth place
3 points for hosting
4 points for WBC President (Full cycle; 3 WBCs)

Nations become eligible for vote when they reach 10 or more points. If the nations meeting these qualifications receive a majority plus one of the votes from the WBC Council, then they shall be admitted to the Hall of Fame.

Should a nation receive less than the required amount of votes, or should they choose to decline their nomination, they become eligible to be voted upon again as soon as they gain additional Hall of Fame points.

Section 6 5: In the case that a nation that is up for a vote for its entry into the Hall of Fame is also an incumbent member of the World Baseball Classic council, that nation shall not be allowed to vote for itself in the election and shall be required to abstain from voting.

Section 7: Hall of Fame membership is to be one nation per person, as to not load down the Hall of Fame with puppets.

Section 8 6: Inductions into the Hall of Fame will take place after each WBC, if any nation not already in the Hall of Fame has met one of the above listed criteria. Multiple, different nations can be inducted at one time.

Section 9 7: A nation that has Ceased to Exist (hereby referred to as CTE) may still be admitted into the Hall of Fame if they had enough points to qualify for the Hall of Fame before they CTE.

Section 10 8: Nations that are recognized as being a politically constituent part of a main nation will have their points added to the main nation’s total.

Feel free to offer suggestions to modify this amendment, particularly in regard to grammar/wording, which is not my strong suit.

Regardless of whether this amendment passes or not, or even makes it to a vote at all, I would like to suggest the creation of a new edition of the World Baseball Classic Discussion Thread. This could be created under the “World Baseball Classic” nation, giving the current president the ability to edit the OP of the Discussion Thread, allowing us to actually have the current, up-to-date constitution at the top. The most current version of the Constitution was created in 2017, and crucially lacks an amendment passed in 2021.

I'm fine with this discussion thread though I understand starting a new one to give us more flexibility as Qazox is no longer around to edit and having it started by the WBC nation is a good idea. If we take a vote and the new discussion thread wins that's fine. I just ask that we label it "version 2" or "2.0" or whatever.

As for the amendment, I think that 10 points is a little easy to accumulate but I like the other edits. If the point threshold was slightly higher that would be fine. I'd also be willing to hear out why I'm wrong about the point threshold.

I'm fine with a new thread, but given what happened with rugby, can we please make sure whoever operates the WBC account is the elected president. :p

I would personally prefer a transfer of OP ownership rather than creating a new thread (just because I think this is the last of the major discussion threads that's still on the "original" version and I'm weird like that).

They've done OP swaps plenty of times before on this forum (mostly on the Issues list thread) so I think if we all agreed and brought it to the moderation team they'd be able to do that for us. Especially if we have Audio/Star vouch for us (if they don't have the capability to do it themselves that is).

Due to no series in the Round of 24 needing a Game 5, there will not be an RP counted "day" for tomorrow. Instead, all RPs posted from now till Wednesday night PT (Games 1 and 2 of Round of Sixteen) will count toward that cutoff (Games 1 and 2 of Round of Sixteen). Please enjoy your impromptu day off.

Therefore, the below nations are eligible to vote on the induction of Ko-oren and Loyo to the WBC Council:
Abanhfleft
Banija
Barnettsville
Cassadaigua
Chromatika
Drawkland
Eshialand
Milchama
Nova Anglicana
Quebec and Shingoryeo
Quintessence of Dust
Ranoria
South Americanastan
South Newlandia
Super-Llamaland
TJUN-ia
The Greater Nordics
The Sherpa Empire
Tikariot
Zwangzug

Nations may vote YES, NO, or ABSTAIN.

Both nations must receive a majority of votes cast to be inducted (not 50%+1 of Council members, as reflected in the most recent amendment).

HALL OF FAME VOTE:

In the absence of nations having been nominated, there is no need for a vote. The HoF spreadsheet has been updated to include South Newlandia's automatic induction for having reached more than 20 points, which should have been done after WBC 55 (Host/2nd 51=7, 2nd 53=11, 1st 54=17, 1st 55/completed pres=27). The HoF spreadsheet can be viewed here.

WBC Amendment VOTE:

South Newlandia has proposed an amendment to the WBC constitution, which can be found here. The gist of the amendment is to simplify the procedure for entering the Hall of Fame by making eligible for vote any nation who has received at least 10 Hall of Fame points, but Council members are encouraged to read the entire amendment carefully.

New thread/OP change VOTE:

South Newlandia has also proposed a new WBC Discussion Thread, since Qazox is CTE and not coming back, so that the Constitution can be properly posted/thread ownership can be passed to the WBC account. Others have suggested asking moderation to transfer OP ownership to this nation. It's not constitutionally mandated to vote on something like this, but I feel it's best to do so. Therefore, I am putting the two options to a vote. All WBC Council nations as indicated above are eligible to vote. The options are:

1. New thread
2. Transfer of OP from Qazox to WBC account
3. Abstain

So, WBC Council, it's time to vote. Please vote on new Council members, SNL's amendment, and the New thread/OP change question by 23:59 EST (UTC-5) on the 8th of March to this nation, World Baseball Classic. Thank you!

PS: Ranks have been updated, though anyone is welcome to message me and point out a mathematical error.

Voting Results

Votes are in, with 13 Council members voting, so response rate was 13/19 (excluding Nova Anglicana), or 68.4%. Thanks to all who voted!

Ko-oren for WBC Council
1. YES: 13
2. NO: 0
3. Abstain: 0

Loyo for WBC Council
1. YES: 12
2. NO: 1
3. Abstain: 0

Amendment to WBC Constitution (SNL's vote was excluded, as they are the author of the amendment)
1. YES: 8
2. NO: 4
3. Abstain

Thread ownership (1 not voting)
1. New thread: 4
2. Transfer of OP from Qazox to WBC account: 7
3. Abstain: 1

Therefore, congratulations to Ko-oren and Loyo on their accession to the WBC Council! The Constitution will be amended to make voting on nations who have 10 or more HoF points the only way to join the HoF and the President will ask moderators to transfer OP ownership of the WBC Discussion Thread from Qazox to this account.
