I hope Royal Johnstone gets URSS in the knockout round if we are able to get out of group play. With how staunchly anti-communist/Soviet they are I could write an epic RP.

Roleplay is a big factor in increasing your chances to win a game.

Quick quesion. I know it is just random numbers at the skin, but how does Free Swiss States, with no RPs, beat two ranked teams?

Randomness. The baseball scorinator is more random than others as it is supposed to represent a 162-game season.

On a different note, United Russian Soviet States appears to have been DOS'ed (not just DEAT'ed, mind you, so he's not coming back with another nation) and Free Swiss States has CTEd. Per WBC Constitution, they must finish all their games in the group stage, but cannot advance to the knockout stage. Should they be in advancement position, the best third-place team across all groups (or best two, if they both are in advancement position) will advance instead. As position in group is the first tiebreak when seeding teams, even ahead of wins, the third-place team will automatically get the #16 seed (and #15 seed if necessary) regardless of record.

If Free Swiss States un-CTEs before the knockout stage, he will be allowed to continue. URSS is obviously not coming back, ever, since he is now DOS.

Maybe. It's the best third place team in all groups, not necessarily the third place team in FSS or URSS's group.

Just a heads-up for Group H, I RPed URSS's leader being arrested and killed over forum disruption to provide some IC sort of excuse for why they can't advance. Just posting this to ensure consistency.

Well, I had the IBC just ended for me (I missed the playoffs. Stupid Casaran format) and I had the team and fans going the Gregoryisgodistan for the tournament, and then some crackpot drug traffickers got executed, so I sent them back to Quebec and had them catch another flight home.

Makes sense. Our baseball team just defeated a team that no longer has a country to come home to. We are number 1!

On the bright side, Ko-oren also lost to Sacheyenya, an unranked and previously winless team. Misery loves company. :)
On the worse side, I play Sacheyenya tomorrow. :(
See, this is where a "crying" emoticon would come in handy.

I'm in a three-way tie for third in my group (as URSS doesn't count).
With the "lucky loser" in play, that could be a huge thing. Ideally for me, Czesc loses, Ko-oren loses, and I win.

Technically speaking, URSS does count, and if they finish third, they will be considered the third-place team and unable to go through as a Lucky Loser. Also, remember that all ties are broken within groups before looking at ties outside the group, meaning if the group stage ended today, URSS, and only URSS, would be considered the third-place team in Group H. They still wouldn't get the Lucky Loser spot though, even if they could. Since position within group is the first tiebreaker when comparing teams from different groups (even taking priority over wins) I'm not going to consider a fourth place team except in the highly unlikely event that all third place teams CTE, whether by DOS, DEAT, or inactivity (or have already advanced as a Lucky Loser but we need another one.)

That being said, things should separate a bit during the next 7 games, particularly with URSS unable to earn any more RP Bonus. But regardless of who wins, someone will win and someone will lose, so things will get less crowded down there.
