Khytenna Destroy Unitopolis to ensure final game showdown for the Auto qualification spot
Unitopolis: 0

Khytenna :7
Pellett 11th
Firestone 15th
Blaylock 34th, 51st
Evelyn 60th
Deshazior 68th
Hytan 81st

A thrashing doesn't quite describe what Khytenna did last night, The shields played soild, Aggressive and attacking football, the kind of football they say they try to play, last night they did it and were unstoppable, Unitopolis where given no space to respond, Khytenna completly dominated the game scored seven goals away.

Coach Dresden said before this game, give us an inch we will take a mile, seems that no one in Unitopolis was listening to him, as Khytenna took a damn continent last night as they took the game straight to Unitopolis last night, in the 11th minute the goal rout started with a goal from Pellett. Squeezing between defenders, Pellett did well to make sure he was available for a through ball by Firestone, he took the ball on and smashed it passed the keeper, one nil the score, but it took 4 minutes for Khytenna to get their second, this was all thanks to a run into the box by Firestone, he ran passed the defenders on the far left of the box and carred on running in, Blaylock was open, Firestone dummied but instead took a shot at goal, it was from a hard angle, be made it work, two nil the score and Khytenna was looking deadly.

Blaylock was to score the last of the first half, a long range cross into the box by Evelyn found the head of the Kings’s District stricker, it was a fantastic goal as he seemed to be marked by at lest two players, he jumped up to reach it in the box, the keeper must of though that the defenders would of stopped him, the keeper had no time to react and the goal was scored, the traveling fan's where going wild, the home crowd looked distraught. the first half ended three nil.

Khytenna got the forth thanks to the work done by the forwards, Khytenna seem to be attacking in pairs at this moment, this works well when we look at forth goal scored, Firestone ran towards the goalkeeper and made a shot it was denied by the keeper, but the deflecion was smashing in by Blacklock, who ran towards the goal near him, who also was marked and on side, he must of been waiting for any deflecion's, and his wait paid of with his second goal.

Evelyn got his name on to the team sheet as well, a corner taken by throne found its in to box and it was punched clear by the keeper, the ball was passed quick to Evelyn on the other wing by Testerman, Evelyn took a shot from from rang on the edge of the box and scored a fantastic shot to make five nil to khytenna, what a great goal.

The last two goals where by Deshazoir and Hytan, Deschazoir made a shot from the outside of the box, the keeper couldn't keep it out, Hytan made uses of a mistake by the keeper in the 81st minute, the keeper went to catch a corner ball but fumbled it, it was taped in by Hytan to complete the seven goal victory.

all eyes are now on the home game against Dorian and Sonya, a win would send them to the world cup, and loss or draw to the play off's, all we know is that tomorrow is going to be a fantastic game!

"This is game that we have been dreaming of, we know that we can do it, if we lose then we just have to take the longer road to get to our destination, but we know we can win, we are Khytenna, we have beaten teams like them before and we can do it again"

Brave words from the captain, Casey Thorne

And then there were two...

Jungle Cats held by Brendino, still in contention

If you look at the Group table, and Vilitan results against the opposition during World Cup 57 qualification, something doesn't quite add up. The Jungle Cats hold a winning or equal record against the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th placed teams. Its the 1st... and the 9th placed teams that have been the undoing of the Jungle Cats.

Once again, Vilita came out motivated against Brendino the 3rd but could not close the deal, the Ferrets having gained nearly half of their all time WCQ points against Vilita. In fact, such is the importance of the points dropped against Brendino the 3rd, that had the Jungle Cats won those two matches against the Groups bottom side, they will have clinched a playoff spot already, instead of having it go down to needed a result on the final day of the season AND needing help from regional foes Krytenia.

But that is the situation now facing the Jungle Cats after a 2-2 draw with Brendino the 3rd, the Group 15 playoff spot will either go to the upstart Vilitans, or, to a Landau Institute team that has shown a notable apathy for its own results throughout the entire campaign, including two decisive defeats at the hands of the Jungle Cats themselves.

It was a perplexing thing, however, the Jungle Cats performances aginast Brendino the 3rd, and should Vilita fail to earn the playoff spot on the final matchday, or be unsuccesful in making the World Cup finals, the ferrets are sure to be the one team Vilita will hope to avoid more than any others moving forward. It just seems like they can't get a result against the ferrets.

Much to the delight of their home supporters, Brendino the 3rd struck first in the 13th minute on a corner kick; Fortun Gabriaux playing an expert ball that was met cooly by defender Zak Townsend who had ventured forward for the set play before wheeling away to the delight of his supporters. The Jungle Cats got more aggressive on the half hour, bringing in Attacking Midfielder Steffyn Siazzu in place of defender Tyaoino Munviola. The change made an immediate impact as Siazzu's persistence from the moment he stepped in the pitch created quick opportunity and almost immediately, a goal. Siazzu dogged Onder Trommel to the point of frustration before finally taking the ball away and finding an almost shockingly open Erocka Lorei who made no mistake netting his team-leading 5th goal of the campaign.

It was barely 10 minutes later and the Jungle Cats earned a corner kick of their own which Jomur Hulyer took. Not to be outdone by his opposite number, Vilitan captain Ritopa Simafela came up from the back to not only participate, but capitalize on the corner kick giving the Jungle Cats the lead, quiting the home crowd and providing to his team a boost that nearly gave them the lead before half time, if not for a great save from the Ferrets Jayden Mckenzie.

The second half started much slower than the first half had ended, The Jungle Cats not pressing as much, Brendino the 3rd creating more space and being allowed to run at the Vilitan defense which seemed to be going into a 'prevent' mode to ensure keeping the three points as they stood. Soon, the pressure began to get too great, and coaches Wrice and Massa seemed nervous about the teams play, forcing themselves into a pair of substitutions with about 15 minutes to play. Retiso Buran was surpisingly removed from the game despite being one of the best performers, and later being named Man of the match by the Vilitan media. Viliaka Morasita come in returning an even more attacking look to the Vilitan side. The defense took a further hit just moments later when Ritopa Simafela was immediately removed from the match by Wrice after being handed a yellow card for a late tackle outside the box, looking to preserve his key defender for the final match of the season, Kadi Molali was introduced using up the final Vilitan substitution.

It would be just 3 minutes later and the dream started to come crumbling down for the Jungle cats, Erik-Jan Bouwmans broke free and slotted past a helpless Nycflala Kater, who was left pounding his fists on the ground as the ball rolled into the back of the net. The home crowd was deafening and Vilita was lucky not to concede a third goal in the final ten minutes, which would have made the task even more unlikely going into the final matchday. But alas, to the relief of 'Billions' of current and former residents of the Vilita & Turori Islands, the Jungle Cats did hold on to one point, meaning that so long as they can avoid defeat against Nitrome Island on the final matchday, there is a chance of advancing to the playoff round.

Qualifying Group 15

Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts

8 Zoobians 15 3 2 10 10 37 -27 11 E
9 Brendino the 3rd 15 2 4 9 13 33 -20 10 E
It is one scenario perhpas not discussed in the race for second place, the potential for a three way tie between Landau Institute, The Kiaser Colonies and Vilita. Despite their inferior goal differential, the Jungle cats should hold all tiebreakers over the Landau Institute AND The Kiaser Colonies, in the case that the match against Nitrome Island once again results in a draw, and the Jungle Cats Atlantian Oceania counterparts hold true to their word and take care of the Landau Institute. However, the Jungle Cats must pick up at least a point in order for any Krytenian assistance to be beneficial. The Jungle Cats earned 6 points during the campaign against Landau Institute and 4 during the campaign against The Kiaser Colonies, obviously making it mathematically impossible for any permutation of head-to-head or 3-team-tabular tiebreakers to be in favor of any team other than the Jungle Cats.

For their part, Atlantian Oceania neighbors Krytenia have insinuated that despite concerns about already being qualified, or focusing on the domestic leagues, the Krytenian squad against Landau Institute will be a strong side, much like the one that eliminated The Kiaser Colonies from contention one matchday earlier. Despite technically not having anything to play for, it may certainly benefit the sky blue team to have Vilita, instead of Landau Institute as potential World Cup Finals opposition; due to the Krytenian dominance over the Jungle Cats during the qualification campaign, the lower experience level of the Vilitan team and the local flavor, interest and familiarity in the regional clash.

Coaches Massa & Wrice have undoubtedly done an outstanding job in their first campaign in charge, but it will all come down to how they prepare and execute in one final match, against the Nitrome Islands, to determine whether the campaign will come to an early end, no closer to the World Cup Finals than Ipeland or Brendino the 3rd; or, if there is still some hope left for another run at the World Cup Finals. Vilita will certainly be looking for a greater contribution from Kristofer Kilpter, who was undoubtedly one of the most disappointing players on the pitch for much of the game against Brendino the 3rd, looking a shadow of the player who was lighting things up before his injury. It will be one of the more interesting story lines in the build up to the Nitrome Island matchup, which is almost sure to be moved to the Tivali Ring Stadium for the first time in the campaign

Marcus Patinkin, the most highly-regarded naval hero in the history of the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy, a one-time presidential candidate and a man who retained the highest rank ever given to a naval official in Sarzonia or in any country from which it draws heritage, died at 2:57 p.m. Sarzonian standard time. He was 86.

Patinkin retired from the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy in 2006 with a rank no other naval official will ever have: Admiral of the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy, an eight-star rank with no equivalent in any other Sarzonian branch of the military.

"Admiral Patinkin was the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy to so many," said former first gentleman Brian Patrick in a brief statement. "He was the face behind much of the success we enjoyed at sea and in reputation abroad."

Patinkin first emerged on the scene as a commodore in the ISN, leading a then-fledgling ISN onto the world scene in a hurry. With a country still striving to establish its own history shortly following the separation from the United States of America, Patinkin's insistence on the highest quality of discipline and drill would eventually pay dividends throughout the service. He was the principal negotiator during the CorpSac War where he coined the expression, "fight crazy with crazy," and took on a crazed countenance with an insane CorpSacian general. His tactic is often credited with ending the war successfully in Sarzonia's and ally Praetonia's favour.

His conduct during that negotiation led him to be court martialed, but he was found not guilty. The attorney who prosecuted him was later exiled to command the ISS Ithaca, which launched a mutiny that was eventually foiled by several allied nations.

"His ability to size up the situation and turn the negotiations in our favour essentially won the day for us," said Admiral of the Navy Stephen Marcus, a man who was considered Patinkin's rival, said in the hours following Patinkin's death. "The ISN wouldn't be what it is today without his influence."

Patinkin also led several fleets as a quickly promoted admiral, then later served with further distinction in the events leading up to the Panteran War, a war which established Sarzonia as a major military power, even in the aftermath of Sarzonia's disastrous involvement in the Inkanan Civil War.

Patinkin continued his push for the highest standards of recruiting and training regardless of whether he was in the centre seat or at the Military Command Centre in Saugerties.

"All the naval traditions we have to this day are due to Admiral Patinkin," said President Nicole Lewis. "He and [late president] Mike Sarzo had a shared vision for the Navy and both men made it work."

A guided missile battleship originally intended to be named the ISS Wicomico will be renamed the ISS Patinkin within a matter of days, according to a MCC spokesman. The move is expected to sail through Parliament and be approved by Lewis in the minutes following.

The Sarzonian national football and gridball teams will wear commemorative patches honouring Patinkin. Lewis is expected to speak at Sarzonia's World Cup finals opener in a brief ceremony commemorating the life of Patinkin.

Survivors include daughter Admiral Kathryn Patinkin, son William Patinkin and five grandchildren. A state funeral will take place prior to the Mike Sarzo Memorial Trophy final between Delaclava and Saugeais at Dave Wilson Stadium in Woodstock.

He must be taking the world's largest dump of all time.

This is honestly taking forever.

What would I do if Ben took this long? Probably walk in after him.

These were the thoughts running through Emiliaja's head as she rested on a plastic bench in Indica International Airport. It felt as though this tracking mission had been going on for months, when in truth it had been only a day so far.

After deliberately planting flares in many of Gelendzhik Stadion's corporate boxes, she'd waited for an opportunity to surreptitiously light them all off. When that opportunity came in Filipov's goal, she'd remotely lit the fuses and waited for the alarms to go off, followed predictably by an evacuation order. When Philippe Després and Yevgeniy's father had stumbled out, coughing loudly, she'd crept into the box and planted a GPS tracking device on Després' locked briefcase.

The device had led her halfway across the world, to Rushmore and Després' home nation of Southern Cynocephali. When Emmy had texted Fušia to tell her where she was headed off to, the purple-haired Ranca Toco striker had immediately advised her to contact her old friend Jahat Chahachim, who played at Indica United. Emmy hadn't had the time for that, though.

It had been hard enough to find a seat on Després' flight, let alone get in touch with Fušia's random contacts, who wouldn't likely be of any use in a surveillance mission like this. Now she just wanted to figure out what connecting flight she should be getting on, since she suspected that Després' destination was Lilter, Southern Cynocephali's second city.

But the overweight, elderly pharmaceutical businessman had wandered into a VIP bathroom in a remote corner of the airport and was taking absolutely forever. Even Emmy, who in her time at the Kagdazka and Pazhujebu Ministry of Justice had been involved in more than a few stakeouts, was becoming nauseated from boredom.

At last! Després emerged from the restroom, looking white as a sheet, but still carrying the locked briefcase. He must have been sick or something, Emiliaja thought to herself as she rose to her feet, tightening the Islamic hijab she'd been wearing to disguise herself. Després began walking, very rapidly, for the domestic transfers wing of the airport. Emmy found herself jogging simply trying to keep up.

This is not good, she thought negatively. He might know I'm on his tail; that would explain why he's walking so fast. But then, he hadn't managed to walk this fast in the entire time time I've been following him! What is going on? She double-checked the GPS transponder in her hand. It was working perfectly, tracking Després' location up ahead. If she lost him in the crowd, at least she'd still have that.

Després began to jog towards the gate that would put him on a plane to Lilter. Just as I guessed, thought Emmy.

But as she slalomed past a bunch of ignorant and distracted tourists (sounded like Krytenians from their accent, Emmy observed), the shape of Després' body began to look very odd. Suddenly, a huge amount of his weight seemed to drop from his stomach and into his rear end. The man stopped and immediately looked back at Emmy.

It hit her like a brick to the face! A decoy! It wasn't Després at all, it was a lackey in a fat suit! She wheeled around, sprinting back to the VIP bathroom. He'd met with somebody there, swapped clothing, and headed the opposite direction. She only hoped she could find some clue as to where he was headed next.

Finding the restroom empty, she gloomily headed for the nearest ticketing counter she could find. Her best hope now was to try and ascertain which flights Després could possibly have got on and then follow up as best she could. Port Milne, Isereliet, Rhohdah... it was a complete crapshoot.

Emmy's mobile rang at just the right time. Seeing Fušia's name, she answered.

"Fušia! I've lost him!"

"Go to Namtock Island!"

"What? Where are you?" Emmy asked, bewildered.

"Ocel0t, way off to the north of you."

"Right, right... how'd that match go?"

"Terrible; we lost one nil."

"Oh, bloody hell, sorry to hear tha-"

"Doesn't matter;" said Fušia, breathless, "since Jeru FC won we'd have gone to a playoff anyway. Listen though, big news: the doctors think they've isolated whatever it is that's making Yevgeniy's girlfriend sick. It's some kind of synthesized alkaloid, and they don't know everything yet, but the diagnosticians think the natural origin of the drug is the Couronne de Waspcroft. It's a large semi-tropical shrub native to Southern Cynocephali, and LVD, Després' company, has been researching the medicinal effects of the plant at a facility on Namtock Island. Forget about Després! If he's gone he's gone! Get to Namtock Island, pronto! Listen, Arukuma's condition is deteriorating rapidly! She'll die in hours if we don't figure out how to help her!"

"I'm going!"

Emiliaja hung up.

Turori National News Press wrote:
Turori Residents Talk Jungle Cats

Do the Island Emirates root For, or Against Vilita on MD18?

For the first time Since World Cup 14, The Island Emirate of Turori is not there to accompany the Tropics of Vilita in their World Cup Qualifying campaign. While more recently, the two nations have combined forces in many sporting competitions including the Nationstates Grand Prix, and even the AOCAF where the combined 'Eel-Cat Things' made three finals appearances and captured two titles, the Football Association of Turori (FAT) had no intention of fielding a combined World Cup entry with the Jungle Cats for fear of losing their independant status at the world stage for future interations of sportings greatest tournament. While they never won the World Cup like their larger island neighbors, the Eels had a storied sporting past including being ranked #2 in the KPB rankings and victories in the Baptism of Fire and Cup of Harmony competitions.

So, the Turori National posed the question to its readers, who are you following in the World Cup this campaign, and are you pulling for the Jungle Cats to reach the finals?

The answers to the second question were fit into 5 categories. "Yes - Fully Supported" - roughly assuming that the readers response indicates they are pulling for the Jungle Cats as if they were the Eels, and they have their full support. "Yes - Until the Final" - A subset of readers were put into this category, where they are glad to have a nation to pull for, and they'd be more interested in the World Cup Finals if the Jungle Cats were apart of it. However, they don't want to see them win the whole thing, because then Turori would be two cups short of Vilita, not one. "Yes - in the Cup of Harmony!" These responses were from those who did NOT want to see the Jungle Cats make the World Cup finals, as it would potentially result in unbearable conversation from Vilitan coworkers or friends in the build up to the event, and during the finals themselves. But otherwise, they were secretly pulling for the Jungle Cats and wouldn't mind seeing them do well, or even win a lesser competition such as the CoH". "Don't care Either Way" - These responders were the ones who either didn't seem to care positively or negatively about the fact that Vilita was in the competition, or, simply didn't care about the World Cup at all since the Eels weren't apart of the competition, and once more, were potentially bitter about the fact that the Eels never even filed to compete given the complete dissolution of some nations that did. And finally, "No. I hope they Lose, and don't even get invited to the CoH as well." - Of course, these are the die-hard World Cup 22-30 Era Turorians who likely have random KPB rankings from that timeperiod framed and mounted over their fireplace with Turori Highlighted as being above Vilita in the rankings.

Turori National Poll: Do you Support Vilita?

Yes - Until the Final 3,257 34.9%
Yes - Fully Supported 2,854 30.6%
Don't care Either Way 2,802 30.0%
Yes - in the Cup of Harmony! 422 4.5%
No. I hope they Lose 7 0.1%
Interestingly, only 7 people threw the Jungle Cats under the bus on the eve of their most important sporting event in decades. Most respondants at the very least showed apathy, but there were still a few sporting emotions that could not be cooled even by the success of the joint Vilita & Turori efforts in the AOCAF some 10-15 competitions prior. One of those respondants, O.K. Disterfred, the Turori National has learned, took a Turorian Jungle Sword from his wall and sliced at his computer monitor when the poll appeared on his screen, such was his disdain that the Turori National would even have to ask him where his allegiances were, as such, it is anticipated that Mr. Disterfred did not actually have his vote included in this tally, and the proper number for the "No. I hope they Lose" category is likely at least 8. Otherwise, over 65% of Turorians indicated they were actively supporting the Jungle Cats in their quest to make the World Cup finals, starting with the big match at the Tivali Ring Stadium against Nitrome Island, the first such match to be held at the Tivali Ring Stadium of the entire campaign. Some readers clicked on the feedback section of the poll asking if there were any plans to set up a Turorian Supporters section, and it is believed that the Mumamba family was organizing to have at least one section of the lower grandstands reserved for pay-on-the-day supporters showing up in a Turori Eels kit.

Turori Nat. Poll: Who are you supporting?

Vilita 4,934 55.8%
Turori 1,857 21.0%
Krytenia 518 5.9%
Sarzonia 445 5.0%
Cafundeu 315 3.6%
Starblaydia 185 2.1%
Andossa Se Mitrin Vega 104 1.2%
Anybody but Bettia 82 0.9%
Cotdelapoms 79 0.9%
Valanora 74 0.8%
Polar Islandstates 52 0.6%
Jeruselem 41 0.5%
The Archregimancy 40 0.5%
Legalese 25 0.3%
Anybody but Vilita 5 0.1%
OTHERS 110 1.2%
As for the other question on the ballot, being a write in there was some taxing work to do for the reporters at the Turori National to piece the responses together into something meaningful. It is certain that the next time this poll is asked, the Turori national webmasters will want to code in a pre-selected set of choices, or at the very least, a drop down menu, considering that over 20% of responses received were in support of nations that are not even participating in the World Cup qualifying. In addition to the overwhelming number of responses for Turori, other responses included Az-Cz, Audioslavia, Falcania, Rejistania, Kaze Progressa and Druida! While over 65% indicated in the previous poll that they were pulling for the Jungle Cats on Matchday 18, apparently, at least 10% of them were not sold when it came to picking out that one team they were pulling for in the competition, with only 55.8% of responses in support of the Jungle Cats. Outside of Vilita & Turori, Atlantian Oceania nations followed with Krytenia, Sarzonia, Cafundeu, Starblaydia and Andossa Se Mitrin Vega all receiving between One and Six percent of Turorian support. Next on the list was a conglomoration of responses that ranged from "NOT Bettia" to "Northern Bettia Sucks" or "Anybody but Bettia", accounting for nearly 1% of all responses. Cotdelapoms, Valanora, Polar Islandstates, Jeruselem, The Archregimancy and Legalese all received at least 25 votes, while only 5 responders claimed they would be rooting for anyone other than Vilita; leading to the natural assumption that 2 more computers were destroyed between the answering of the first question, and the second. 20 Other nations received less than 25 votes. Ipeland, Hockey Canada, Bostopia, Qazox, Phoenigetuzstha, Bears Armed, The Babbage Islands, Sorthern Northland, Kalumba and Mytannion all received more than one vote, while the remaining ten (not Published) all received only one vote.

So, while they may have missed the boat on having the Eels participate in another World Cup, it appears that most Turorians have warmed up to the idea of rooting for their neighbors and sometimes partners in sport, the Vilita Jungle Cats, to succeed at the Worlds biggest stage. Host announcement: As a heads-up prior to my posting scores and tables for the final Matchday of the group stage, I might take a little longer than usual with regard to checking for tiebreakers, ceased nations, playoff matchups, etc. K&P, I've referred your question about the playoff matchups to Cafundéu to make sure he and I are on the same page.

With that, today's RP cutoff is brought to you by Nelly Furtado's most recent English language CD Loose, specifically, the song "All Good Things", because all good things, such as the qualifying stages of World Cup 57, must come to an end.

And RPs are hereby cutoff!

The Herald

Report by Bruce Mtwetwe

Kalumba to face the toughest test.

Well we are into the World Cup qualification play off, and instead of facing 40th ranked Khytenna we will face none other than 11th ranked Dorian and Sonya. While this will be a great moment for Kalumban football to face such a good team, it is possibly the worst draw for the second biggest match in Kalumban history. Having defeated 39th ranked Churchma in our previous game Kalumba could look towards facing a team of Khytenna's level with something approaching a degree of confidence. No one would have expected us to win the game but we were in a position from which we may have been able to snatch a cheeky win. Our defence, bar an embarrasing first game performance, has been relatively solid and Ottbourne has been on top form. And a snatched goal could be defended and lead to us qualifying for the World Cup proper.

However Khytenna in a marvellous performance defeated Dorian and Sonya to take the top spot in Group Ten, leaving Kalumba with a seemingly impossible task. Manager George Davies was asked what he made of the draw: "I am sure we would have loved to draw one of the smaller and weaker teams and have a real chance of progressing, but we didn't and as such we will have to make do with what we have. It is a daunting prospect to go up against the eleventh best team in the world, but at the same time is a wonderful prospect. It shows not only how far Kalumba have come as a side, we no longer face unranked minnows but the best of the best, and will be an opportunity to showcase our skills to the world. I have every confidence that the lads will not let me down and we will not be embarrassed. You may see a cricket score as the result but i am sure that will not be reflective of our performance. And either way facing such high class opposition will give us an advantage during the Cup of Harmony, if we fail to win tomorrow.

In Kalumba's final game a 2-0 victory was recorded over the unpronouncable Pheoningushta. Both goals were scored by Chris Abouto and both were of his own making. The first he had a shot blocked and reacted faster than anyone to latch onto the rebound and cement our superiority over the minnows in the 35th minute of play. His second goal was an excellent finish but drew questions as to the quality of our opponents. Abouto beat six players before finishing with aplomb in what was an embarrassing goal to concede by a side of any level. The rest of the game was without effort from our players, disappointing but understandable as our opponents failed to threaten and we knew a two goal cushion was enough to see us home. Thankfully no major scare occured as with twenty minutes to play the result of Churchma versus QEPMA was announced. With Churchma winning a close contest three-two Kalumba had to win to secure the playoff berth. Thankfully we did and can look forward to a marvellous contest with one of the world's best teams.

On The Lash With The Lads

Blog of The Travelling Tortoises

What a bloody week, eh? We beat Churchma, yes Churchma, and secure second place thanks to some silly-arse rule that puts head to head above of goal difference and then beat the minnows to think we are going onto an competetive game with Khytenna for a place in the World Cup finals, but instead find out that Khytenna went out and beat 11th ranked team in the world, Doraian and Sonya, so have won Group 10, meaning we have to play Dorian and Sonya.

And as you know from this blog so far i am not one of these Kalumban fans who always thinks we are going to win, and actually has a vaguely realistic outlook on football results. So while i think we would have lost against either side a result against Khytenna was a lot more realistic than even a respectable scoreline against Dorian and Sonya. But we must hope, Maragret may decide to throw the largest ever spanner into the works and gift us a victory and eternal glory.

And those of you expecting a nice account of the battles we have held with the bloody foreign fans are to be sorely disappointed. After the Churchma game the lads were too drunk on delirium, and a variety of alcoholic beveridges, to actually hunt down and engage in combat our opponents. And when the result of last nights minnow raping came in we were busy purchasing every rubber chicken in Kalumba to carry out a mass sacrifice to Margaret at midnight in hope of stealing a result.

Mr Spleen

P.S. If you have any rubber chickens and wish to see Kalumba win come to any local Union Pub and join the mass sacrifice at midnight tonight.

World Cup 57
Match #16 @ Valladares

Dammit. Dammit. Dammit.

One more minute and Qazox would be in the World Cup. But Jefferson Ospina scored in the 4th minute of an added 4 minute injury time to stunningly tie the match at 4-all. With the draw, Qazox only makes the playoffs, as Chetkosk and Qazox finish level on points but Chetkosk won both meetings to take home the group and the automatic berth. We apologize for any misconceptions stated previously about Qazox needing just a draw to earn the automatic berth. Iona Laughlin sat out the game today as well, still mourning the tragic loss of her aunt to breast cancer earlier this week. Doreen Dobbs and Sean Barr got the start in front today; as Dwight Lynn is still recovering from appendix surgery the other day.

Dobbs (25') and Barr (38') each scored in the first half to give Qazox a 2-1 lead; following a 5th minute goal from Miguel Flórez. Flórez tied the match at 2-all in the 49th minute and Valladares took the lead again with a goal from Frank Zapata in the 53rd minute. But Rene Martin banged home two goals herself in the soan of 5 minutes (68th and 73rd); to give the Eagles the 4-3 lead. For the next 20 minutes, Qazox held off every attack Valladares sent forward, but Ospina somehow snuck through the back line on a corner kick attmept and headed home the tying goal.

Qazox, as the best record of the 2nd placed teams will play the worst record of the 2nd placed teams; Landau Institute on Monday night. It is still being determined as to if the game will be in Qazox or at a neutral site. If in Qazox, New Bruxen Hotel and Casino Field will host the match. Qazox has been in the playoffs 3 times before, if you are including the 2nd stage for World Cup 54 qualifiers. Each of the 3 previous times, Qazox has reached the World Cup.

Jungle Cats go Out with a Win

Poor Results against Brendino the 3rd will haunt Vilitans

The Vilitan supporters packed the Tivali Ring Stadium in Alikki-Corra, a true international caliber stadium, for the first time in years. It was a big day for the Jungle Cats, going into the final day of World Cup Qualification with a chance to not be eliminated at the end of the day. All they needed was a point against Nitrome Island, and Atlantian Oceania neighbors Krytenia to take care of business against Landau Institute, a team which Vilita had a perfect record against during the campaign.

The crowd was boisterous and energetic, but the play on the pitch was anything but. You may say there was a shot or two in the first half, you may not. The bottom line was, nothing interesting had happened, The Jungle Cats, understandably, looked nervous, while also understandably, Nitrome Island looked like they just didn't care. Steffyn Siazzu, who did not get the start, came on at the half. Kristofer Kilpter, once again uneffective in attack, was replaced in the 69th minute by Lita Adjei while Resaie Kentiak came in for Miiara Makose.

As word came in of the Landau Institute leading Krytenia, a sense of real urgency came over the Jungle Cats. Finally, to the joy of the supporters, Rexii Tzikas found a way through in stoppage time to give Vilita the 1-0 lead on only the 3rd shot on goal for either team on the day. However, it was all for not, as Krytenia was unable to find a way through against the Landau Institute, and the Jungle Cats were left to rue poor results against bottom clubs Ipeland and Brendino the 3rd as they will watch at home on the television while a team they beat twice without conceding a goal to travels to Qazox for a winner take all clash for a ticket in the World Cup Finals.

What's next?

A lot of Smilers are wondering what's next for Miley World since we didn't qualify for the World Cup. We scheduled a game against Nicole Sherzinger but our newspaper have no idea if that game will be played or not. And then there's the cup of Harmony. Most Nations who didn't qualify for the World Cup are invited at the Cup of Harmony, but actually we have no idea if Miley World will be accepted or not. The Untamed Robots were ranked #216 before the World Cup starts so we are pretty low and couldn't be invited at the Cup of Harmony.

Interview with Grégory Dedieu

Journalist: "hey Grégory what do you think of Miley World's performance during the qualifications?

Grégory: "yo man i fink we did pritty good espeshally durign the 2nd part off the qwalificashons n i fink we gott our tickitt 4 the cop off ormonee lol n i wanna thx cafondou n serziona 4 hostign dis event u did a pritty good job guyes lol"

Journalist: "Hmm I didn't understand a single word you said, so you think Miley World will be invited at the Cup of Harmony?"

Grégory: "yea man well b invited fer shure weve made a pritty good run at the qwalificashons so the appel contry n the pollar place hav no choice they hav 2 invite miley word lol"

Journalist: "Well once again I didn't understand anything you said, but thank for your time Grégory, it was a pleasure.

Win puts us in Cup of Harmony
Rouge Pioneers finished their World Cup campaign with a win against Kazerjan. With results going in the way of Rouge Pioneers, they finished 5th. The game saw a good start, with Rouge Pioneers capitalising on a defensive error, to see John Ryans score a goal, on his return from a training injury. Then, we got a second on the half-hour mark, with Felix Coca heading in a corner. However, 2 goals were conceded early in the second half. The 77th minute saw Sarriaho Demini score from 40 yards, to finish off Rouge Pioneers on a winning note.

The objective was in sight, but they lost track of their goal. In every respect.

A goalless draw in Braxil - who humiliatingly took four points from the Kytlerians in the group in all - meant that the Kytlerians missed out on being one of the top four debutants of this WC qualifying cycle by dint of goal difference. Seunem and Euskirribakondara both accumulated more points than the Kytlerians' 23, while Gyatso-kai and Nicole Scherzinger secured 23 points with goal differences far better than the Kytlerians' humbling -16. A win against Braxil would have given the Kytlerians the second best record of all debutants behind Seunem.

SO-KP officials have blamed the performance on "interruption to the nation's RPD supplies which may be related to preparations for the Baptism of Iron and World Lacrosse Championships", but say that "supplies are being restored and are not expected to be interrupted during the Cup of Harmony, as new sources have been identified that will be less vulnerable to interruption." Whatever that might mean.

It is clear that a lack of attacking flair is responsible, and fans are already talking of 17-year-old Teddy McLeish being the solution. The Ranford & Willsbrook striker scored nine goals in the second half of the last NSL season, and is seen as adding far more fluidity than the current striker, Cameron Upson. Fans have been furious that Upson has been played in every game, despite his one-dimensional play. More realistically, Guy Stamp - who made just two starts in the qualification stage - looks set to be involved extensively at the impending Cup of Harmony, as the team look to improve on a miserable scoring record that left them as the joint-lowest scorers in their group with only 14 in 16 games.
Out of international isolation and... winning things? Huh?

Ipeland 4-0 Brendino the 3rd

Ipeland finished off their World Cup campaign with a flourish, a 4-0 win over fellow non-qualifiers Brendino the 3rd. Kevin Texan, Stuart Holden and Sadas Mosti all scored goals for Ipeland, as their opponents didn't really try.

The first half had two goals. The first came to Kevin Texan on 23 minutes, a free kick from Kiefer Sutherland Wallace headed in by him. The last goal of the first half came on the 39th minute, a spectacular overhead kick by Holden, from a cross by Wallace.

The second half had two goals. The first came on 58 minutes, Kevin Texan scoring his second by way of a brilliant free kick which whizzed over the keeper's fingertips and into the top corner. Sadas Mosti rounded off the scoring on 89 minutes, his cross accidentally going in from the left.

Arcatea doesn't Qualify for World Cup, Glove Happy with Results

Arcatea's first World Cup Qualifying didn't end the way most citizens wanted it to, but Manager Marvin Glove is over-joyed with his teams 4th place group finish. After their solid preformance at the Baptism of Fire, which they made it to the quarterfinals, and winning the 1st Republic Cup, Arcatea came into Qualifying knowing that it was going to be an uphill battle if they wanted to qualify. Captain Craig Deal led the team into some very difficult matches against many higher ranked teams. Arcatea's win against 32nd ranked Erathore 1-0 in MD 7 was the highlight of the Qualifying round, proving to the World that Arcatea can keep up with older and more proven nations. Next up for Arcatea will be a few friendly matches, and then possibly a shot at the Cup of Harmony, although officials are saying that Arcatea may not qualify due to The Times in-ability to gain coverage of the Qualifying rounds.

The friendly matches will be played against #60 Bergnovinaia at Presidents Stadium, #175 Mapletish also at Presidents Stadium, and at
#39 Khytenna. The Cup of Harmony is a tournament held for all nations who did not qualify for the World Cup.

We had a great WC qualifying, we got to play some very great teams, and my hope is that it helped our team become even better. We knew coming into Qualifying, that it was going to be a long shot for us to move on, and we just wanted to get some wins under our belt and make sure we can continue to improve. I know our the people of Arcatea are disappointing, but we are looking forward to future World Cups. Our B squad had a great Quall Cup, coming in at 4th, and they are continuing to play at a high level. We will be looking to continue to further Arcatea in International sports. After the great round we had here, I expect us to move up in the rankings. We are also hoping to gain a invitation to the Cup of Harmony, although we know it may be hard after the lack of media coverage in Arcatea. We are also playing some great teams in some friendlies, which I really hope can improve our guys. We started this journey not too long ago, these guys started out as rivals, having never played each other. Now they are a team, they've come so far in such a short amount of time. The few guys who are still in school have been doing their classwork on the road, and have informed me that they will not be returning to their teams. We've got a really good team here, and I am hoping that the strides being taken at home will help bring more talent in the future.

How jammy are we, eh?

Two World Cup Qualifying campaigns, two top-of-the-group finishes. I'm just lost for words.
We cannot attribute all of our success to the Puffins, however. A big shout out to Qazox for drawing with Valladares is in order, I reckon. In all seriousness, the game was tight and I barely had any fingers left by the end of it. But in the end the score was level, as were the points between us and the Eagles, and Chetkosk topped the table on two stunningly good head-to-head performances against Qazox.

Kudos to the team and to Byshovetsiy on their performance against these guys, even if Qazox have been suffering from a plague of injuries and other unfortunate circumstances. The team's heads were in the right place for both games, and the response after two quick replies from Qazox in the second half of game two was swift and well executed. All in all, I expect to see Qazox in the finals anyway after their playoff match against The Landau Institute.

Valladares seemed to suffer from the same form-sapping condition as Carpathia & Ruthenia towards the end of the tournament, indeed they lost to the latter, reducing the pressure on our boys to succeed that night against our closest rivals.

My prediction? 3rd place. Actual results? 1st place. Am I pleased? Hell to the yes. We'll just see how quickly the smile is wiped from my face once the group draw is out...

World Cup Playoffs: Smugness Edition

So. Astograth's qualified. Are you ecstatic? Of course you are, if you're anything like us at The Rumiatzi Sentinel. But if you're anything like us, you're also only mildly surprised, because we could see this coming miles away. Seriously, it's hardly epic when you're such a dominant footballing force. And if you're anything like us, you don't actually remember anything about the match or the night that followed, though the security footage has proved quite revealing in that aspect.

Well, we're sure you enjoyed - or at least tried to enjoy - the dreadful football brought out by other nations on this final matchday, with all top seeded nations playing away to the second seeds. Most groups, including the glorious number sixteen, were already decided by this point, but there were a few decent matches, perhaps reminiscent of our Second Division B in talent level. Churchma's win over Queer Poco el Mono Ara still ended in heartbreak as they miss out on the playoff spot to Kalumba on head-to-head goal difference, while Cotdelapoms thumped Akbarabad 4-0 to take the top spot and send the Tiger Beaters to play against Civil Citizenry.

In Group 10, Khytenna defeated the Sylvanaes Queendom in an all-or-nothing struggle for automatic qualification; in Group 12 Qazox managed a last-minute eight-goal draw with Valladares that just wasn't enough to get first place over Chetkosk. Group 13...you know we don't talk about that one, but Polar Islandstates got lucky and beat The Archregimancy in a totally meaningless encounter. Moving on, there's not much of note other than Virabia's 1-0 loss to The Holy Empire, which allowed Khabarovsk Krai to get ahead and take the playoff spot; they'll now face Kernansquillec in a duel of letter Ks that The Rumiatzi Sentinel very much approves of.

But that's all ancient history. What's important right now, faithful reader, is that there are one-legged World Cup playoffs that you can watch from the comfort of your home, sipping cold beer in the knowledge that Olibondeka is well on its way to Sarzonia and Cafundéu. That's what we'll be doing all day at the Sentinel, at any rate. Let's see what games await.

Qazox - Landau Institute. Qazox missed out on head-to-head results, so they're obviously running with the advantage here, but everyone knows how unpredictable the Institute is, what with its peculiar selection methods. Players to watch are Iona Laughlin, who at age 36 is still banging in goals for the Eagles, and Caroline Larine, whose wine-fueled skill could be decisive.

Kagdazka and Pazhujebu - Allamunnic States. What did we tell you? The Federation can't cope without Edorta Urrustoy boosting the level of its league. Still, they run with the advantage over the Allamunnic States, of whom we have oddly not heard much this World Cup. We'd tell you to keep an eye on Fušia Oujadda, but since you'll be doing that anyway don't forget about Kkrhumoq Ztnkk, who at sixteen is setting the world on fire.

Bostopia - Tretskivucia. Ah, Emperor Boston's team. How can you not love that man, dear reader? We're sure he's the kind of monarch who gets what he wants when he wants it, no questions asked, and then sits back to relax with a copy of The Rumiatzi Sentinel. Tretskivucia? Runners-up at the 48th Cup of Harmony (remember that one?), but they don't quite convince us.

Kernansquillec - Khabarovsk Krai. We'll be following the duel of Ks avidly, but as far as football goes we can't look past Kernansquillec. If only because we've heard of them before. Also, look out for the strike partnership of Kai Holmes and Kimmo Suutari-Jääskö, the latter of which is so young we must ask if it's even legal for him to be playing.

Dorian and Sonya - Kalumba. The Sylvanaes Queendom, World Cup 53 winners, against Kalumba, Baptism of Fire 43 winners. It's a toss up, really, as both have been playing at about the same level throughout these qualifiers. Elven longevity and the experience it brings might prove the decisive factor, though that didn't help Starblaydia much now, did it?

Akbarabad - Civil Citizenry. Tiger Eaters - or Beaters, we're not sure - against the barbarian rabble that is our next-door neighbours. Can't say we're too excited about either, but if the Citiz win then it'll make our inevitable win at Athenstoft all the more delightful.

Stachland - Whirl Islands. Oh, we remember Stachland, those nervy upstarts who ruined our Baptism of Fire. And the Whirl Islands...we don't really mind them, being a cool holiday destination an- no, that's it! They're taking all the tourists away from us! Gah, neither team should be going to the World Cup on the basis of having slighted us at the Sentinel.

Mangolana - The Archregimancy. Going by tradition, we'll say The Archregimancy, but Mangolana has been playing at a not-so-mediocre level considering their relative inexperience. Still, the monks were a tough rival for Astograth in the World Cup 56 qualifiers; that alone makes them favourites here.

Osarius - Swartaz. Interesting, we can't really tell who'll win and we don't really have favourites. The Firebirds were considerate enough to roll over for Olibondeka in the 48th Cup of Harmony, even if they did take first place in that group, and Swartaz did the same during our mid-qualifying friendly in Rumiatzi. Very courteous opponents, should be a decent match.

Octinstine - Pays de Horreur. A no-contest. Pays de Horreur actually drew once again Astograth, which places them on an entirely new level of footballing dominance that should see them comfortable overcome Octhisismine (or whatever they're called).

Mangolana Gazzette

Election results
With a massive turnout of all 2.104 billion eligible voters, Mangolana's inagural election has become a proud moment in the history of Mangolana. All parties running for office in there closing speeches admitted that this result was from the long awaited elections that people had been waiting for. The people, finally with the right to choose who will be there father figure for the next 5 years, have spoken, and have made little change to the current system here are the results.

Yourtes party- Rocky 33% of vote

Fredrickson party- Bullwinkle 47% of vote

Sports party- Franklim Ordonez 12% of vote

Suplementery party- John Sullivan 5% of vote

None of the above- 3% of vote

So, the first elected president of Mangolana will be Bullwinkle and his vice-president Connor Jackson. The people who claim that they voted for Bullwinkle say he earned there vote after not wishing to enter the current Rushmore war, while the predicted winner Rocky, wanted to enter the conflict, which could have caused millions of dollars lost in the economy. Franklim Ordonez and John Sullivan were never really contenders, but earned more of a vote than most people predicted they would. But in the end, Mangolana will have at leats one of the same men in office for another 5 years, lets see how he can do now that he is by himself.

Breakdown of World Cup Play-offs

The World Cup entry play-offs are here, and many upsets have occured in nations that actually made it here, let alone the surprise nations that made the World Cup. Now lets have a look at the play-offs and are expected results.

Qazox v. The Landau Institute
Qazox who we have played before that resulted in a 4-0 loss for us, have shown to be a great team during World Cup Qualifing. They led there group most of the way but lost first place in the end and have to settle for a play-off spot. We played the Landue institute once before when they were in our group during the 40th Baptism of Fire, and we know they are very smart, but will that be enough to beat Qazox? Predicted Result: Qazox 3-1 win.

Kagdazka and Pazhujebu v. Allamunnic States
K&P, a nation who has a bright history of playing at the top level of soccer wether it be domestically of internationally, very good squad who will be tough to beat. The Allamunnic States on the other hand, a nation that we co-hosted a WLC with, will this time provide little resillience against a much tougher side. Predicted Result: K&P 4-0 win

Bostopia v. Tretskivucia
Bostopia, not just a nation, but a kingdom. The team which has gradually made its way up the World soccer latter will be playing to make it into a world cup after they were in a group they were expected to win. Tretskivucia is a great team that finished second in last years Cup of Harmony will be looking to make it back to another world cup with a win here.
Predicted Result: Tretskivucia 1-1 (2-1) AET

Kernansquillec v. Khabarovsk Krai
Kernansquillec, or the mean green as we like to call them, have played there hearts out all through qualifing, and like Qazox, they lead the group till the final days, and now have to preform in the playoff game against a very surprising side. KK who is the Rushmore soccer champion will be trying to keep this surprising year going by being the surprise team in the World Cup
Predicted Result: Kernasquillec 2-0 win

Dorian and Sonya v. Kalumba
D&S, the top girls out there, and a the World Cup 53 champs, are now in a position that they have not been in for years. Win and your in is there situation, lose and your going home, which will be a shock for this team. Kalumba which is a former Baptism of Fire champion will be seeking to qualifiy for the World Cup in only there second attempt, can they do it, we have been shocked before.
Predicted Result: D&S 2-2 (2-2 AET, 4-3 PK) win

Akbarabad v. Civil Citizenry
Akbarabad who suffered an opening match loss to an unknown Welebecer nation, has fought back to get themselves into the World cup qualifing play-offs. They are a good team who will use there offense if they hope to win. CC who is the Rusmore deligate, and a ally of Mangolana will be seeking to qualify for there first World Cup with there possible best squad ever.
Predicted Result: CC 1-0 win

Stachland v. Whirl Islands
Stachland who is a surprise team to be here, will be looking to get into the world cup by dominating there Rushmore opponents, Wirl Islands. WI is a up and coming Soccer nation who will also be attempting to qualify for there first ever world, either way here comes the noobs. Predicted Result: Stachland 3-2 win

Mangolana v. The Archregimancy
Mangolana, our home team, will be attempting to qualify for there first ever World Cup, after defeating Pasarga, a highly ranked opponet twice during qualifing. Mangolana will try to use there high scoring a youthfullness to dominate a known opponent. The Arch who we have played before during our first World Cup, will be attempting to once again make it to the big dance, but this time the result will be differnent. Predicted Result: Mangolana 3-2 win

Osarius v. Swartaz
Osarius who is known for there great CF play, will be attempting to qualify for the World Cup as a dark horse in it. Swartaz is another nation Mangolana has no expieirence playing, but will look to give Osarius a run for there money.
Predicted Result: Swartaz 2-0 win

Octinstine v. Pays de Horreur
Octinstine who we saw preform poorly during the first ever Market Cup in Mangolana, will be attempting to qualify for there first ever world cup.PdH will be trying make it back to the dance, and dont forget, there a fellow Rushmore nation.
Predicted Result: PdH 7-2 win
Pronounced: Man-Go-Lan-a
Deuce is Loose
Qualified for World Cup 59, 60, 65
Hosted: World Lacrosse Championship XI, Market Cup, Market Cup II, Soccer for Hope, Beach Cup 4, WISC 2, WISC 4, Campeonato Rushmori Juvenil Sub-20 and Sub-17

The Babbage Islands Pummels Orlkjestad, Sends Stachland to Playoff

Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 The Babbage Islands 16 15 1 0 77 12 +65 46 Q
2 Stachland 16 11 2 3 27 12 +15 35 P
3 Orlkjestad 16 10 2 4 24 16 +8 32

As Stachland's own Reds enjoyed a well-earned matchday off, undefeated group leaders the Babbage Islands easily dealt with third-place Orlkjestad, destroying the squad on their own home pitch, four goals to one. This match at last concluded the intense race for second place in Group Two that had involved Stachland and Orlkjestad since nearly the beginning of World Cup 57 qualifying.

"I would have felt a lot more confident if we had controlled our own destiny," explained coach Theodore Czacki late last evening, "but, of course, the Babbage Islands is a great team—the fifth-best team in the world, as of the last rankings—and we were all certain that they could get this victory which we needed them to get."

With the Bumblebees' victory over Orlkjestad, Stachland will move on to face the Whirl Islands, ranked sixty-sixth in the KPB, for the right to advance to the World Cup finals. While neither Stachland nor their opponents have made the finals before, the Reds would seem to have a distinct advantage, being a higher-ranked team with more players on respected international club teams.

"We have this incredible opportunity, and we aren't going to give this up easily," said team captain Everett Lang. "Since our Baptism of Fire, making it to the finals has been the milestone which we have struggled to achieve. We've worked hard, and I feel that we deserve it."

If Stachland were to lose the playoff match, the Reds would be sent to their third consecutive Cup of Harmony. While the hosts for that competition have not yet been decided, the first and presently only bid is by Cotdelapoms and Polar Islandstates.

Silver Beach finishes in 4th place, Manager Romeo Juliani on the hot seat

Silver Beach finished the qualifying season on a sour note, losing 2-0 in captain Sean Johnson's last home game of his career, and then going to Valanora and drawing 2-2 to a team that was pretty much playing all of their subsitutes, as they were clear by 10 points in the group when that match was played. Silver Beach has seen better days, and Romeo Juliani has seen better days as well. There were protests in Lulika City following their embarassing 1-0 loss to Pernam at home, and 2-0 to Western Cuba at Justinian I Field. We will examine the good, the bad, and the ugly of Romeo Juliani's mangerialship, and see if he should get fired or not.

The Good
There has been a lot of good under Romeo Juliani's mangerialship over this Silverian squad, ever since he took over immediately following the tragedy of Sir Daniel Adam's assasination at the International Cardinal's Cup. He rallied his team together after that disturbing incident, and the team rallied and ended up getting redemption to defeat the hosts, and win the International Cardinal's Cup, defeating rivals Eastfield Lodge 3-1 in the Cup final. He has Silver Beach's only tournament victory, and has seen lots of successes elsewhere. He did let Silver Beach play brilliantly after blowing a 2-0 at unranked Pernam this qualifying period, as the Bears scored 4 goals in two consecutive matches, then played #6 Valanora very well at home to a 3-2 loss on their own field. Romeo Juliani also has seen his team do good in other circumstances, as he has been getting wins for the Silverian side since he was thrown to the mangerial spot after Sir Daniel Adam's assasination in Litharius. He has been able to successfully rally his side, and has gotten his team to show flashes of brilliance against some opponents.

The Bad
He has never been able to make his team show consistency. Silver Beach in their last 3 games of the 1st half, played their best football of the campaign, winning 4-0 vs. the Peterwood Estate, 4-1 at Western Cuba, and then losing a hard fought match 3-2 vs. Valanora, who is the #6 team in all of international soccer. But then Silver Beach would fall flat in future matches, embarassing itself at home as it was lucky to only lose 1-0 against unranked Pernam, and then, in Sean Johnson's last match at home for Silver Beach, losing 2-0 to Western Cuba. This time also was frustrating in the Republic Cup, as it scored 4 goals in the opener of that match, and then barely squeaked through to the knockout stages, only to be embarassed 3-0 by tournament hosts Arcatea. Silver Beach has also never been able to be consistent in these tournaments, leading group 19 with 8 draws during the campaign. Silver Beach seems to never be able to find a way to win, even against teams that they should beat. The Bears squad did not get enough 3 point results, and that is why they won't be playing in these playoff matches in a few weeks.

The Ugly
At times, Romeo Juliani managed squads just flat out embarassed themselves in competition. They got destroyed at home 1-0 by unranked Pernam, who should have scored 3 or 4 goals against the Bears in reality, but Juliani got lucky to have Cameron Tabanou have the best match of his career against Pernam. Juliani also saw his team shamefully exit the Republic Cup with a 3-0 blowout by the Arcatean hosts, and he said that his team should have played better against them. Silver Beach also lost 5-2 at Eastfield Lodge, with his defense being quite shameful against his opponents. Silver Beach also blew too many leads, blowing a 2-0 halftime lead at Pernam, and then blowing another 2-1 second half lead against Valanora. This team looked downright horrible at times, and you wondered whether this was the national team or a team in the Khytenna Beach Second Division.

The Verdict
The association won't make a decision on Romeo Juliani unti after the Cup of Harmony, we know that for a fact. While no official things have been said, leaked reports from aides state that the manager needs a good performance in Cup of Harmony 49 to keep his job. All matters are made good by winning, and Romeo Juliani needs to not draw, but win, matches in the Cup of Harmony to keep his job. If the manager can do that, even escape from the group stages, Romeo Juliani should be able to keep his job, unless he embarasses himself in the knockouts like he did in the Republic Cup.

However, unless the manager can find a way to go deep into that tournament, we believe that Romeo Juliani is not the right manager for this squad, and therefore we believe that he should be fired as the Silverian manager. We will see what happens though, as he tries out new players in his only post-qualiying match at playoff-bound Stachland, and then re-arranges his roster for the Cup of Harmony 49.

They made their way to the visiting locker room with heads down. Not looking up at the scoreboard, or the sky, or the lights, or the press box, or the pigeons perching atop the lights, or the home fans' banners.

Especially not the home fans' banners.

"Hey," said Tomás Ceballos, catching sight of a particularly dejected Jimeno Arellano, "it's been worse."

The younger starter turned, hesitated, and then stammered. "C...can you do me a favor?"

"Um, probably. What is it?"

"You..." He dropped his voice, sounding at once hushed and awed. "You know how to read."

"Don't go spreading it around," Ceballos groaned. His aunt had taught him a bit, as a child, and he'd picked up a little more here and there. But it wasn't exactly normal for Aguazul. "You need contract help?"

"Oh no, got my agent for that."

"All right. Look, shake it off, we're all being rotated in and out," he started. What could possibly be so important as to require literacy?

"Just...the signs," said Arellano. "I...could you...go back and look at the videos? See what the signs said?"

"They're all the same. Just like, go team, stuff about their coach...they don't, they're not very pleased to see us, after the first leg. But who cares?"

"I care. If you...if you can just check, that they're not about me."

"Dude, they don't care. I was on the bench all day, right? Of course I looked around. Reading...once you've learned to do it, you always do it, when you see words, you figure out what they mean."

"And if you've never learned to read? Then what do you do."

"You do what you always have. You play, and..."

And there would not be goals to score, not for them. Never even assists to or from, no way to work along with your teammates, not even the steady comfort of doing the same thing, of trusting them to be alongside you, but standing alone and waiting for failure. That was all.

"...and sometimes you win."

Looking down the barrel of his gun towards his enemy, Malachy McEvoy thought back to a few hours ago.

World Cup qualifying was now over. The final match, a 6-1 thrashing of Andossa Se Mitrin Vega had seen it end on a comprehensivly good note for Sorthern Northland. As a Nothandryun derby a fair number of Sorthern fans had travelled eastwards to Errion Vega for the match, some of those though perhaps had no intention of returning.

Murmurings of dissent had turned into protests against the government. The resulting crackdowns had turned into civil war. Even so, for the vast majority of football supporters who hadn't travelled the civil war wasn't going to stop them. The televisions would still be showing the match, a break from rolling news coverage of the war, and the pubs would be crowded out with people watching them. For two hours or so arms would be downed, government supporters and rebels alike both liked football.

In war it may be a case of Sortherners being both 'them' and 'us', but as far as international football went Sorthern Northland would remain 'us' for one final qualifying match and the the World Cup finals. Seven more matches and hopefully a third title in a row for 'us'. 'Them' for a couple of hours tonight would be Andossa Se Mitrin Vega, a common enemy for the nation as a whole to share.

Such unity was displayed in the pubs filled with crowds watching the game. When Clive Costly opened up the scoring after fourteen minutes it was a unanimous roar that greeted it in the The Four Lanes House, McEvoy's favour drinkery. A second goal from Costly after twenty-nine minutes saw a second cheer reverberate around the bar. Then on fifty-three minutes when Fekelii Nab’ibakii took advantage of a David Black mistake after fifty-three minutes to bring Andossa Se Mitrin Vega, the encouragement to do better that he Petardos man would never hear were universal, his comments about supporting the rebels forgotten for now. Then a wonder goal from Saiorse Ní Fhionnagáin after sixty-four minutes, restoring a two goal lead and enough surely to knock any building wind from Andossa Se Mitrin Vega's sails. No one in the pub was particularly bothered who they hugged in celebration, they were all Sorthern and they were all celebrating a Sorthern goal. David Black, would redeem himself on sixty-nine minutes to make up for his mistake, once again the crowds gathered in pubs were all unified in their shouts to him.

A third goal for Clive Costly on seventy-three minutes and Sorthern Northland's sixth goal of the night would then get the biggest cheer of the land. Even McEvoy a normally reserved man found himself hugging a complete stranger during the celebrations. It was a moment of joy and ecstasy shared by two people who didn't know of each other and shared a bond only through nationality. In many ways it was a lot of what international football was about.

Seventeen minutes later and where the end of previous World Cup qualifying campaigns would have seen all night parties tonight saw the nervous dispersion of the crowd. An air of disappointment perhaps hanging over this brief ceasefire having come to an end. The football had finished, the war was back on and that was why Malachy McEvoy was here looking down his rifle about to pull the trigger on a government supporter.

The man in his sights? The very man he'd celebrated Clive Costly's hat-trick with just a couple of hours ago.

'Oh Mama, oh Mama comfort me,
For I know these awful things have to be,
But when the war for freedom has been won,
I promise you I'll put away my gun.'

The home side's dressing room at the Gelendzhik Stadion was a quiet place. A cardboard box sat morosely at the center of the room, its contents neither a mystery nor a joy.

Fušia shook her head in utter disbelief. The last few days had been a discombobulated blur. So much promise and so much optimism had sank now into a crumbling mess. What a waste.

A few players were crying. The tragedy, for Fušia, had not quite set in yet. It soon would, she felt.

Peregrina sat down next to her without saying a word, leaning her head on her partner's shoulder and shuddering with grief. To think they'd once hated one another... now they both felt as though they might suffocate without each other.

Emmy had reached Namtock Island and done her best, interrogating every LVD employee she could find. Eventually, however, security had found out about her invasion and ushered her away. Meanwhile, back home, the doctors had been unable to help. Arukuma was dead.

A silent Brutušam Erassi had opened the cardboard box, gesturing for all the players to come forward and each take an item from it.

Black armbands.

Yevgeniy, distraught at the loss of his love, had returned home to his flat and hung himself.

The pending playoff match felt much less a chance to qualify for the World Cup as it did a punishment for their inaction and apathy. Whatever their fate was, it was surely nowhere near as bad as that which had befallen their fallen comrade.

Aquillius Razava, Yevgeniy's roommate, seemed the most upset, tearing pouring down his torn face. He must have felt like a father losing his son, Fušia thought weakly.

Peregrina sniffled a little. Erassi, too disenchanted to stand for his pre-match speech, began to utter words, his mind seemingly miles away.

"Within the infant rind of this weak flower
Poison hath residence, and medicine power:
For this, being smelt, with that part cheers each part,
Being tasted, stays all senses with the heart.
Two such opposed kings encamp them still
In man as well as herbs, grace and rude will;
And where the worser is predominant,
Full soon the canker death eats up that plant."

And then he left for the tunnel that would lead them out onto that terrible green morass that they, in some places, called a football pitch. Dreading the match as though it were an execution, the players stood and followed him, one by one, leaving the sad cardboard box behind, empty.

Somehow, Fušia felt as she waited in the tunnel, it was far more important to her to ensure that her black armband was being applied properly than was focusing on the match.

The ground was filled to capacity, fans from all parts of the Federation having ordered tickets for their Urchins' great chance at a return to football's most hallowed tournament. The pressure from these assembled supporters was unbearable for the players.

But Fušia looked up as they began to unfurl a huge banner along one whole stand of the stadium.

"Yevgeniy Oistrakh, 5232-5251. Urchin Forever."

The Sermons of Fr. Basil the Thoughtful

On Mangolana

So... the playoffs...

This is not where we expected to be.

Yet the anathematised and God-forsaken Terns have taken the group.

And so we must remind ourselves that the judgements of God are always just, even if they are not easy to understand.

My perspective is different.

If anyone is devout and a lover of God, let them enjoy this beautiful and radiant match to come.
If anyone is a grateful servant, let them, rejoicing, enter into the stadium.
If anyone has wearied themselves in fasting, let them now receive recompense via a discounted ticket.
If anyone has been there from the opening whistle, let them today receive the just reward.
If anyone has come at the 10th minute, with thanksgiving let them gaze upon the match.
If anyone has arrived at the 20th minute, let them have no misgivings; for they shall not suffer an Archregimancy loss.
If anyone has delayed until the 60th minute , let them draw near to the match without hesitation.
If anyone has arrived even at the 80th minute hour, let them not fear he has missed much of the action on account of tardiness.
For the Archregimancy squad is gracious and receives the last even as the first; they entertain those who come at the 80th minute, just as to those who have labored from the first.
They has mercy upon the last and care for the first; to the one they give, and to the other they are gracious.
They both honour the work and praises the intention.
Enter all of you, therefore, into the joy of our Lord, and, whether first or last, receive your reward.
O rich and poor, one with another, dance for joy!
O you ascetics and you negligent, celebrate the day!
You that have fasted and you that have disregarded the fast, rejoice today!
The match is rich-laden: feast royally, all of you!
The calf is fatted: let no one go forth hungry!
Let all partake of the feast of football. Let all receive the riches of footballing goodness!
Let no one lament their poverty, for the universal kingdom has been revealed.
Let no one mourn their transgressions, for pardon has dawned from the grave.
Let no one fear death, for the Saviour's death has set us free.
He that was taken by death has annihilated it!
He descended into Hades and took Hades captive!
They were embittered when they were forced into the playoffs! And anticipating this, Isaiah exclaimed: "Hades was embittered when it encountered Thee in the lower regions".
They were embittered, for automatic qualification was abolished!
They were embittered, for the squad was mocked by the Terns!
They were embittered, for they were forced to play Mangolana!
They were embittered, for their proud record was despoiled!
They were embittered, for they were bound in tactical chains!
O Mangolana, where is thy sting?
O Mangolana, where is thy victory?
Christ is risen, and you are overthrown!
Christ is risen, and the demons are fallen!
Christ is risen, and the angels rejoice!
Christ is risen, and life reigns!
Christ is risen, and not one dead remains in a tomb!
For Christ, being raised from the dead, has become the first-fruits of them that have slept.
To Him be glory and might unto the ages of ages.
And let the Archregimancy triumph and reach the World Cup Finals!
Amen.

((OOC: Note the time-skip 20 years into the future, after Dhanda's playing career is over. And for RP attribution, this is a concept I'm borrowing from Oberour Ar Moro's BoF RPs from a while back. I figure it sets up a nice storyline whether I qualify or not.))

After our surprising defeat -- which, if I'm honest, was somewhat humiliating in its manner -- to Milchama, all the faint lights of optimism we'd fiercely guarded upon realising we may still have had a chance to win the group, were promptly extinguished. Nobody really cared anymore. It wouldn't have mattered if Cosumar had lost to Kelssek, as we'd hoped. We weren't going to win the group anyway, now. And everyone knew we never won playoff games. It was just how things were in football. We accepted it. Kinda like how players accepted that Burningham City didn't concede penalties at the Elishat.

Tickets to the final group stage matchup, against Cosumar, ended up being given to schoolchildren for free, and even then, many didn't take them. Far too interested in attending live shows of "reality talent competition", The People's Idol that same night. I'd find out many years later that, according to network figures from OSN, few people bothered to watch the post-match analysis of the Milchama game, even. After we battled to an entertaining 3-2 victory, which would have -- ironically, enough -- likely been of great interest to the majority of Osarian fans, under normal circumstances... even the players seemed resigned to another playoff defeat.

"Ugh... Playoffs again." Gennaro Criscito slumped onto the bench in the team dressing room. "We never win these things."

There was an awkward silence, almost as if nobody dared argue. Not out of fear of Criscito, though. More out of fear of being 'that idiot who thinks we can win a playoff game'. It seemed like a long time, but it was probably only really a few seconds before a reply came.

"Never will if you go in thinking like that."

Enrico Martelli. The media loved him, talked him up as a successor to Benni Watson, who was supposed to have been the successor to Benedict di Corradi, and so on and so forth. The media loved doing that. Drawing parallels where they probably didn't really exist. According to them, I was the most promising central midfielder we'd had since Jermain Lewis, yet to this day I don't think I played anything like him. Except maybe the tackling. But that's another discussion, one I'll come back to later actually... I remember discussing it with the man himself at an end of season awards ceremony.

So yeah, 'Rico. I liked the guy, really. But sometimes he was kinda like that know-it-all in school who sucked up to the teacher. Great player, though. He continued his little speech.

"Football matches aren't all won on the pitch, guys. It's all in the mind. We lost to Milchama because we believed we were so much better, all we had to do was show up. We can't do that. If we go into a match thinking we're gonna lose, we've already lost."

It was hard to ignore him, but equally, it was all a bit cliche. A bit trite. Nobody really ever believes that stuff, usually. Something was different this time, though. Nobody cracked a joke. I waited, expecting a witty comeback, or some acerbic taunt. "There's always one", as the old phrase goes. It never came. I don't know what came over me, but I found myself thinking 'maybe he's right'. At Utica, we never bought into those kinds of phrases, it never really seemed to be in the boss' nature. Not under Freeman, not under Contreras. They were both the kind of coaches who made us strive for perfection, and focus on becoming better players, rather than use psychology to boost our performances. They never felt it necessary to talk us up like that, because we already kind of knew we were good. Anyway, Rico got me thinking...

"He's got a point, guys." I tacked onto his speech. "That whole 'we never win playoffs' attitude is a bit nuts anyway. We've only played one. The interzonals were a bit different really, a-"

"We were still only one game away from the World Cup." Criscito cut me off.

"And the emphasis we placed on that 'one game' probably backfired on us!" Rico jumped back in. There was a slight nod from many of the other guys, as if in acknowledgement of the potential truth behind what we'd usually dismiss as just some psychological trickery.

"It is a different game when you play a cup final, to be fair." Marco Corradini chipped in. As a senior member of the squad, along with Rico, Marco's input carried a lot of weight. Also, he knew pressure better than any of us, really. As a 'keeper, every second you're on the pitch is heavy with the weight of expectation, and the knowledge that a slip from you could be the difference between a win and a draw, or a draw and a loss. "Because you know it all rests on that one game. A lot of players can't handle that."

"Maybe that's it then." Criscito wasn't letting this go. "Maybe we just can't handle it."

Even now, I think he probably didn't realise it at the time, but he had, in my mind, effectively summed up the reason behind the national team's struggles. We all played it off as a joke when this reasoning was mentioned, but deep down, a lot of the team probably believed it. Kind of tragic, thinking about it, because I'm pretty sure that even when I first came into the team... when we still had both Watson brothers, Rene Wilson-Ouaddou, Calvin Harris just winding down his career, and a bunch of other great players in the setup, we really should have been playing in a World Cup. There were teams making the grade who I always felt we were better than, and I can't pretend it didn't frustrate me. Then again, maybe that's what drove me on so much. What made me develop as a player.

Amy Pond and Princess Sofia Michelle Dallas

Sofia: Pondy, you've been a naughty girl.
Amy: Why?
Sofia: I've got this video ... look ...
Amy: Um, well I can't remember anyway. Where'd you get that from?
Sofia: There's cameras everywhere at parties at my place.
Amy: I suppose you're allowed to since the party was at your place.
Sofia: So, what you say?
Amy: Might be, I was probably drunk.
Sofia: It's not me.
Amy: OK, it was me.
Sofia: Don't worry, I'm not putting it on the Internet.
Amy: Good, not good for my clean image.
Sofia: So who was the guy?
Amy: I don't know
Sofia: Probably one of Jeru FC boys.
Amy: Hang on if it's one of them, they'd be carrying their own camera around.
Sofia: Yeah true
Amy: Oh no
Sofia: Who cares
Amy: I do
Sofia: Well, let's find out then.
Amy: I don't want to know.
Sofia: Jeru FC have their own channel on this video site
Amy: I assume it's not for kids.
Sofia: Oh look, a new video.
Amy: Great
Sofia: 1 million hits!
Amy: I'm going to cry
