Sarzonia Stars

Coach: Mark Browers, 51
Assistant: Tom Crosby, 64
Goalie coach: Pete Peeters, 47

Sweater, thanks to Cotdelapoms!

ROSTER
GOALTENDERS (starter in bold)

1 Matt Peterson, 28 6-foot-1, 205 pounds
Quick reflexes, uses a butterfly style most of the time. Puck handling is suspect.
35 Kieran Barker, 23, 6-foot-3, 210 pounds
The young goalie earned some valuable experience during the group stage of the 11th World Cup of Hockey, so he'll be called upon as the backup to Peterson.
39 George Moeller, 36, 5-foot-10, 170 pounds
After Joe Cullen suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament prior to training camp, Moeller made the team as the third string goalie. He'll be counted on to provide experience behind Barker if Peterson falters.

DEFENCEMEN
First pair

3 Erik Weinert, 22, 6-foot-2, 190 pounds.
Hard hitter, can pitch in on the power play, but usually isn't the point man with the man advantage.
5 Craig Langhorn, 36, 5-foot-10, 170 pounds. Team captain.
Relies on positioning and experience to defend against all comers. Paired with Weinert to help the young player learn.

Second pair
2 Lorne Davis, 26, 6-foot, 200 pounds.
Not super-fast, but an extremely hard hitter. Plays a stay-at-home defensive style.
6 Mia Chretién, 23, 5-foot-8, 145 pounds.
Can move the puck in and out of the zone well. Sometimes used on the front line during penalty kills.

Third pair
7 Joel Fitzgerald, 29, 5-foot-11, 185 pounds.
Not known as a hitter, but has better make-up speed than any other Stars defender.
18 Jack Bradley, 24, 6-foot-3, 215 pounds.
Size, speed and hard hitting make him a feared defender to go up against.

Seventh defenceman
14 Calen Willis, 28, 6-foot-2, 200 pounds
An offensive defenceman all the way, led Sarzonia's league in goals by a defenceman three years running.

FORWARDS
First line

Left wing: 8 Sylvan Turcotte, 23, 6-foot-1, 175 pounds.
Lefty shooter with the hardest shot on the team. Led his league with 38 goals in 54 games.
Centre: 9 Joe Perkins, 27, 5-foot-11, 180 pounds. Alternate captain.
Best at winning faceoffs of any Stars player. A gritty player who'll willingly go into the boards, but that occasionally results in injuries.
Right wing: 10 Steven Miller, 31, 6-foot-1, 200 pounds. Alternate captain.
Hardest worker on the team, also willing to go into the boards and play physically.

Second line
Left wing: 13 Cameron Granato, 24, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds.
A righty shooter even though he plays left wing. Provides some scoring punch for the second line (24 goals in 52 games).
Centre: 15 Jon Tippett, 33, 6-foot, 185 pounds.
Led the league in assists and is a frequent presence on the power play as a distributor.
Right wing: 17 Mark Ridley, 28, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds.
Another prolific scorer, he scored 31 goals in 50 games for his team two years ago.

Third line
Left wing: 21 Marco Osterland, 31, 6-foot-1, 205 pounds.
Strong presence on special teams, has some scoring touch but is better known for his defence.
Centre: 23 Giancarlo Ovecezcu, 27, 6-foot-2, 210 pounds.
Uses leverage and cat-like reflexes to win defensive end face offs. Good puck handler.
Right wing: 24 Ray Olendorff, 22, 6-foot-1, 190 pounds.
Plays harder than most. Is now much improved in conditioning, but meshes so well with the third line that he only plays on the other lines in knockout stage matches.

Fourth line
Left wing: 25 Alan Donald, 27, 6-foot-1, 215 pounds.
Sarzonia's designated enforcer, led the league in penalty minutes three consecutive seasons.
Centre: 26 Troy Hammer, 28, 6-foot-3, 230 pounds.
Built like a gridball linebacker, he hits like one. Would be an enforcer if he didn't have a surprisingly deft touch in front of the goal.
Right wing: 34 Chris Buck, 33, 6-foot-2, 205 pounds.
On the checking line because, well, he's a good checker. Does so cleanly.

The defending runners-up to the Plutonian Robotic Dynasty returns everyone from WCoH 15 in Cotdelapoms. This team has experience and depth and are amongst the favorites to contend for the title. Especially if Plutoni manages to choke due to the pressure of playing in front of their home fans. The schedule for Qazox is a very favorable one with the group finale vs. Allamunnic States looking to be the only real test.

Mohicia Eagles Team Roster and Information

Head Coach/Manager-Larry Palmquist
Assistant Coach: James Turner

Image

Roster:
Offense
LW
Thomas Combs # 11
Age- 23
Thomas is a power forward at 6'5 and 190 pounds. He likes to pummel his opponents into defeat and can also be a power shooter, holding the record for the second most goals on the team
Arsenio Lorenzo # 24
Age-28
Arsenio is a master at long range shooting, having scored 80% of his career 450 goals from before center ice. He tends to be weaker then some in bunched, close plays, but is also an expert skater and can outskate almost anyone
RW
Jordan Lowe # 89
Age-30
Jordan is a excellent skater and shooter. He has a tendency to always find the net, having the most goals on the team last season on the NHL at 265 goals. He is a little weak on long range shooting, but excels in all other areas
Jason Williams # 55
Age- 27
Jason is a power forward and tends to pummel his opponents rather than by the rules, there for he has a habit having getting penalties. He excels on goal scoring when past center ice, especially if it is in the goalie's face. He isn't the fastest skater though, but is quite good on defense
Center
William D. Earnest # 08
Age-32
William is a team legend. He held the team record for the most goals up until last year when Jordan Lowe broke his record. He is a power shooter, power skater, and power forward. He knows when to pummel through or when to skate by. He excels in all area's of the game, but can be hurt if hit the right way. He is a master at face offs, enemies shake in their skates just seeing him when they head for a faceoff
Edward Johnson # 32
Age-23
Edward was introduced to the team three years ago and was a rookie when the team went the the WCOH 12 and has been playing hard since, trying to earn himself a name while living in the legend, William D. Earnest's shadow.
Goalie
Richard Miller #00
Age-26
Richard was drafted four years ago at the onset of the 12th World Cup of Hockey and has proved invaluable so far. After playing with the Eagles and going with them to three World Cups and a Cherry Cup, he has a vast amount of experience against all kinds of teams. He was the Number 1 overall draft pick and has proven himself worthy to take over Jordan Lowe's Captain position. He excels at close quarter shot blocking and in 12 matches this season he has only let 5 in.
John Baker # 98
Age- 36
John is the team's first goalie from when it was founded. He was a legendary player, however injuries and age have knocked him down a bit. He makes for a great sub and is a average blocker.
Defender
Steven Akers # 87
Age-29
Steven went from a all star rookie to a excellent veteran player, refining his skills on and off the field as the years went on. He no longer commits has many penalties as he used to and he has refined his shooting skill as well as defending and is known for making up amazing defending plays
Shane Nolan # 76
Age-27
Shane is the most aggressive defender out there and he often outscores the wingmen in some seasons. Drafted four years ago,he is looking forward to partaking in his third World Cup
Randy Shannon # 77
Age-23
Randy had a decent rookie year however his skills dropped a bit after refining them a bit after the 12th World Cup. He remains to be a suitable substitution for Nolan and the other defenders, however there have been rumors that he might be traded after this World Cup
Marco Morris # 65
Age- 27
Marco was acquired from a trade four years ago and after it was learned he doesn't like to play well with others, the Coach had him benched, heavily. However, in recent years as he got more playing time, it's rumored that he's been used to "take out" players on the opposing team

Cherry Cup Resurrection Runner-Up
WCOH 16 Runner-Up
Participated in:
WCOH 12,14,16,17, Cherry Cup Resurrection
Ranked 45th for WCOH

Head Coach Guy Lemaire is now in an interesting position after the fourth place finish at home for World Cup of Hockey 15, and will now go into the land of robots as one of the favourites to win the tournament. There is an entire nation of people looking to question every move he makes- hockey is far and away Cotdelapoms' most popular sport, and the national team and league is followed even more closely than the national football team. Indeed, when Michel Carbonnier was asked if he'd ever trade places with Lemaire at a media conference during Copa Rushmori, he suggested "not in a million years."

Lemaire will be second-guessed constantly for his choices. The team selection this time around shows a focus on offence- either in using finesse players to score goals or in throwing pucks at the net and sticking a man in the slot. This is generally a strong tactic, but the decision to include Benoît Cohen has upset some people, and there is a worry that completely excluding Andrus Andropopoulos from the regular forwards implies the team will lack sandpaper.

FIRST LINE:
LW Rick Jones (Outremont Owls)
Smooth skating, high scoring, hard hitting winger, always a contender for the league's top scorer. Shoots first, asks questions later, passes never. He regularly leads the CHL in shots, as his shot selection is definitely not limited. Is now under a considerable amount of scrutiny as the Owls continue to go nowhere in the postseason.
C Pierre Drouin (Outremont Owls)
The best two-way player in Cotdelapoms, Drouin scores highlight worthy goals, makes some of the most impressive passes in the league, is a phenomenal stick handler, and is also fairly defensively responsible. Injuries have started to hamper his game, and he is starting to lose some of his lustre as the league’s most marketable player due to a lack of winning and the excitement generated by some of the younger stars. Is still the captain and is still the man internationally, and a World Cup win would cement his place as an all time great.
RW Guillaume Lajeunesse (Montréal Royals)
A true "power forward", pounds other teams and stands in front of the net to get tip-ins and redirects, a force to be reckoned with, and will protect Jones and Drouin. He is not the most fleet of foot, but he still finds the net. Works well with this unit, which is why they do not get touched- rumour has it the Owls dangled a considerable bounty of players and money to get him away from the Royals but Christian Bruneau decided not to take the offer.

SECOND LINE:
LW Louis Periard (Portsmouth Mallards)
Periard’s wicked slap shot has made him a bona fide CHL star, arguably bigger than Jean-Luc Barr, the most fancied player out of his particular junior class. The Mallards love to let him rip and crash the net, and the hope is that this line will do a lot of that. There were some suggestions that Lajeunesse play with Periard for that reason, but instead Lemaire has chosen a surprise we will get to later.
C Jean-André Vlemincx (Côte-Est Mariners)
An excellent passer of the puck with truly tremendous vision and pretty adequate stick handling skills. His speed is also a huge tool in his arsenal, as is his drive. He has earned a bit of a reputation for choking in big games, but put a dent in it by being one of the best players at the Olympics.
RW Benoît Cohen (Rouen Caribou)
Cohen’s inclusion on the team and this line has generated a mass of controversy back home, as many feel he doesn’t deserve top 6 billing for Cotdelapoms, but he is the most adequate choice to play on the opposite wing of Periard, rather than the “better” Champagne, Dionne or Alexopopoulos. Cohen is a big body who can score and bang and will be there to crash the net for Periard.

THIRD LINE:
LW Rémy Tremblay (Saint-Urbain Citadelles)
Has really become a more well-rounded player in recent times, and is always always always a goal threat. This line will be there to put up goals, and should be able to. Tremblay may benefit a lot from getting the least attention.
C Luca Messina (Montréal Cotdelapomais)
A late bloomer, did not really become a star until he was on his third team at the age of 27, but is instrumental to the success of les Citoyens on their recent back-to-back Dumas Cup wins. He is quite small but a very smooth skater and is always in the right place at the right time. He does not tend to get too physical, but he is also surprisingly strong- which allows him to play in front of the net from time to time.
RW Julien Champagne (Montréal Cotdelapomais)
It’s been a rollercoaster of a career and he is only 23, but Champagne has won two Dumas Cups and a Champions League and been in the top 10 in scoring for two straight CHL seasons. It’s clear he is one of the best players in the world at this point, and whilst that is a bit of a disappointment to a media that wants him to be the very best, the best player in Cotdelapoms hasn’t actually won a Dumas Cup yet.

FOURTH LINE:
LW Jérôme Cyr (Worcester Snowbirds)
Extraordinarily quick and has great positioning. Not a natural scorer but his positioning leads to him getting a lot of good rebound goals, which is seemingly the objective of this team. He sets up in the slot, or to the left and gets in tight spaces.
C Jean-Luc Barr (Hamilton Tigers)
Now 20 years old, Barr is finally becoming the CHL superstar we had hoped, and gets to play on his first senior Cotdelapoms national team, albeit in less of a role than he is probably used to. Barr can do everything well, but is not the best at anything, which is frustrating for him. In junior he was hyped to death, but coming into a relatively quiet media market like Hamilton has helped a bit.
RW Luc Dionne (Montréal Royals)
Has deft hands and fleet feet, but is purely an offensive player. Will probably be the primary goal scorer on his line, but may get removed for someone a little bit tougher if the game gets chippy. Is one of the CHL’s best players but has kind of been pushed out on the national team circuit due to the play of Champagne.

DEFENCEMEN:
1. Alexandre Briére (Montréal Cotdelapomais)
2. Joseph Powell (Chambly Brewers)
Briére is a giant bruiser with a great slapshot who is at home in any circumstance- he is a good 5-on-5 defenceman, he is a power play quarterback and he is willing to block shots on the PK. Powell is smooth and fast and is a good complement. These two have not developed much chemistry yet, but there will be a special focus in training camps to make it happen.

3. Marco Trussina (Île d'Elisabeth Osprey)
4. Konstantin Koritz (Cap Nordique Drakkar)
Trussina is very tall and useful on the penalty kill, he has a long reputation for being a bit of a pylon, but that's not entirely fair- he still slows down oncoming attackers enough for his partner to come over and interfere, or to help out his goaltender. Koritz is also very tall, but is more agile. He took a big step forward this season, even if the Drakkar remained lousy. This is a controversial pairing, but it will probably work just fine- both of these players are paired with large d-men on their clubs.

5. Thierry Johansson (Albionpool Oak Leafs)
6. Rezzi Tzar’kr’El (Montréal Cotdelapomais)
Thierry Johansson is an adept stick checker who doesn't make the big hits but is still a competent defender. His primary job will be being a mentor for Tzar’kr’El, and to cover for his mistakes. Tzar’kr’El is brash, an excellent shot and has a good first pass, but also has a tendency to annoy other teams and his teammates in a bad way, and is sometimes woefully out of position. He has been given a big reward by being put on the team, and will have to prove he deserves it.

GOALIES:
1. Pascal Sévigny (Montréal Cotdelapomais)
2. Maxime Deslaurier (Île-d'Elisabeth Osprey)
3. José Thibodeau (Charlevoix Montagnards)
Pascal Sévigny was so amazing during the Dumas Cup playoffs and Champions League that what was once a source of controversy is now the easiest part of Guy Lemaire’s job.

POWER PLAY UNITS:
1- Jones-Drouin-Lajeunesse-Briére-Koritz
2- Periard-Messina-Dionne-Powell-Tzar’kr’El

PENALTY KILL UNITS:
1- Drouin-Cohen-Briére-Trussina
2- Messina-Champagne-Johansson-Powell

3 MAN PENALTY KILL
1- Drouin-Briére-Trussina
2- Messina-Johansson-Powell

RESERVES:
LW Roch Cormier (Lacs d'Été Otters)
RW Andrus Alexopopoulos (Rouen Caribou)
LW Marc-Antoine Parent (Sorel Pomhommes)
D François Dion (Albionpool Oak Leafs)
D Andrew Barnet (Montréal Royals)

MYTANAR ICE HOCKEY NATIONAL SIDE.

Starting Team.
#77 Bakunin - #14 Hajers - #6 Tujenhev
#3 Veterin - #32 Dugev
#1 Kyschenko

Key Player is bolded, Team Captain is underlined.

First Line.
LW #77, Marcin Bakunin, 22 (Worcester Snowbirds, Cotdelapoms)
He's the real creator of goals in this side; he is the one that finds the way through a defence, picking the lock and setting-up for a team-mate to easily finish. He'll have to be tightly marked as he is as slippery as a buttered snake.

C #14, Boris Hajers, 24 (Thessia Pistons, Mytannion)
Big, strong, bustling centre - he uses his strength to his advantage and charges his way through defences. He scored 27 goals for the Thessia Pistons in the last season in the Rushmori CHL and this was largely thanks to the fact he arrived in the right place at the right time and has excellent positioning.

RW #6, Pryzemyzr Tujenhev, 23 (Montréal Royals, Cotdelapoms)
The goalscorer, his shooting is amazingly accurate and his strength and stick-handling are brilliant. He is the key-man in this side and if he plays well, the team plays well. He has real pace when going over the ice and is the most influential player in this side.

Second Line.
LW #7, Piotr Jenkov, 23 (Arsika Hammers, Mytannion)
Quick and has excellent stick-handling, able to negotiate his way through defenders with ease. His shooting accuracy leaves something to be desired, but when he slaps one toward goal - you'd be a fool to get in front of it, it hurts. Scored 25 for the Hammers as they won the Mytanar-Sargossan Division regular season championship.

C #2, Aksel Gundersen, 20 (Outremont Owls, Cotdelapoms)
He may not have a team in a domestic league somewhere, but this kid is the future of Mytanar Ice Hockey. He may be a bit undersized for a Centre (5'8"), but his speed and anticipation make up for it, he knows exactly where the puck is going before it gets there. He has also been known to go from behind his own net to the other end of the rink to score; so he has very advanced stick-handling too. He'll be hoping to catch the attention of foreign teams in this tournament for sure.

RW #44, Vitaliy Yertolenko, 24 (Ebor Snowstorm, Mytannion)
A very, very creative player. He knows how to split a defence wide open with a pass and can ghost past defenders as if they weren't there. If he gets the puck, expect something big. He was the leader in assists for Mytanar sides in the Rushmori CHL with 37, meaning he took part in 85% of his team's goals over the season.

Third Line.
LW #23, Kamal Tykowski, 24 (Providence Gothams, Mytannion)
He plays for his home-town club and is extremely proud of that. He is good at making a quick impact as he speeds past defenders and has accurate and powerful shooting. He could be a huge asset to this team and is very influential. He scored 20 for the Pistons in the last CHL season.

C #25, Declan Denham, 26 (Arsika Hammers, Mytannion)
Strong, very, very strong. He keeps the ball well and then brings others into play whilst holding off one or two defenders - meaning he can be used well to take defenders away from his team-mates, who he then brings into play. He has excellent passing and very accurate shooting.

RW #10, Ilya Saiyfulemindirov, 21 (PBI Rangers, Cotdelapoms)
He was the hopes of Mytanar hockey, but with the emergence of Bakunin and Tujenhev - the hype around him died down. He is still a great player though, of good stature and strength. He is very graceful and floats around the ice, his stick-handling is exceptional although his shooting is slightly below-par. He is good at assisting and that is his main job within this team, he'll be hoping to catch the eye of some big teams during this tournament.

Fourth Line.
LW #13, Yurij Galasek, 25 (Trunca Force, Mytannion)
He's quick, no doubting that - he possibly lacks the strength needed for a player on this huge stage. His former partnership with Vitaliy Yertolenko in the Liga has led many pundits to question why they aren't on the same line, Yertolenko was the provider for all of Galasek's goals in one of the past seasons, all 25 of them. He has very accurate shooting.

C #99, Jaroslaw Marha, 19 (Unattached)
Another youngster without a team who we have high hopes for. Hopefully he'll team up with Aksel Gundersen on the same line in the future as they work brilliantly together - as shown in the second WJHC. He's not renowned for his speed, but he does have surprising acceleration and no one thinks that he has as good stick-handling as he does, but his shooting is what he is best known for; accurate and powerful - he should get a move somewhere through a good performance in this tournament.

RW #39, Hazir Turinski, 18 (Unattached)
Is the one to look to for when the team is in need of pace and quick creativity, he is a player who is built in the Pryzemyzr Tujenhev mould but isn't as inspirational as him and nowhere near as skilful - he is quick, has average stick-handling, but gets away from defenders and has good shooting.

Defencemen.
LD #3, Wojtek Veterin, 25 (Montréal Royals, Cotdelapoms)
The big man at the back. Hard-hitting, tough-tackling defender. He uses his strength to excellent use and can start plays right from the back with his passing being very accurate. He does get a few too many penalties called on him, but he has the composure to cope on the bigger stage and so shouldn't concede too many.
RD #32, Alixysandr Dugev, 24 (Arsika Hammers, Mytannion)
The man who was at the helm of the tightest Mytanar defence in the Rushmori CHL last season. He is slightly undersized but is willing to put his body on the line to block shots and can move the puck well; as he has decent stick-handling skills too. He hits well, even though he isn't the tallest, but tries to make an impression all the same.

LD #36, Wladimir Sevac, 23 (Thessia Pistons, Mytannion)
Quick, although not the strongest and so could be a player to exploit. He glides across the ice and is normally the man who sets up the way we play when on the powerplay, the one who sits back and organising everything. Very accurate passer.
RD #49, Iivari Hard, 20 (Unattached)
He is brilliant at intercepting passes, and is very strong. When he hits you, you think it might be something twenty times as big. He is one of the tallest defenders on the team and he makes sure people know it. He'll be looking to catch the attention of foreign teams as he is another youngster who is currently unattached to any team.

LD #4, Wesley Tuuijkers, 25 (Montreal Cotdelapomais, Cotdelapoms)
An absolute behemoth at 6'7" and he uses his height and strength to their absolute best possible usage - slamming into people. He blocks attackers off, bullies them, does whatever it takes to get them off the puck - his stick-handling is a bit suspect, but he doesn't have too use it too much thankfully. Hoping to catch the attention of foreign teams.
RD #16, Sanzhis Olayzhinsh, 20 (Ebor Snowstorm, Mytannion)
He has to be one of the most elegant defenders there is, his tackling doesn't touch the man, he just steals the puck without the player knowing anything about it. His strength is doubted highly because of this, and if threatened with a strong forward - he could be in trouble.

Goaltenders.
#1, Vladimir Kyschenko, 24 (Ebor Snowstorm, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
When he played for the Juniors, he was ridiculed because of his height. But his confident displays, amazing agility and willingness to go out after shooters were impressive and proved the doubters wrong as he helped lead the Mytanar Juniors to the WJHC Championship.
#8, Yerjan Litala, 23 (Arsika Hammers, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
A goalie who has been known to make amazing, point-blank saves and the one who saved the penalty-shot in the shoot-out, in the first WJHC final which won it for our Juniors - an impressive goalie.
#15, Christian Daecher, 20 (Ebor Penguins, Mytannion)
Probably won't even get a look-in, but he chases shooters away from goal fairly often and is known to take risks - which is sometimes his downfall.

Power Play Units:
1 - Bakunin, Hajers, Tujenhev; Veterin, Sevac.
2 - Jenkov, Gundersen, Turinski; Olayzhinsh, Dugev.

Penalty Kill Units:
1 - Tujenhev, Yertolenko; Veterin, Dugev.
2 - Bakunin, Tykowski; Hard, Tuuijkers.

3-Man Penalty Kill:
1 - Tujenhev; Veterin, Dugev.
2 - Jenkov; Hard, Olayzhinsh.

"Welcome to the International Hockey Channel, the Official Shofercian Channel for broadcasting International Games of Ice Hockey and Field Hockey in Shofercia. The National Hockey Association of Shofercia just announced that Ivan Moneybags will be retained as the CEO of the team. Ivan decided to retain Steve Uriev as the Head Coach, and Coach Uriev just announced the roster."

Roster:

Line 1 (Torpedo):
LW Pashka Bren
C Sergei Sergeev
RW Lev Koper
D Dmitri Turchinsky
D Oleg Harding

Style of play: power forwards!

Line 2 (Rockets):
LW Frolik Aleksandrov
C Dat Pashkov
RW Afi Maksimov
D Mark Andreev
D Mark Danilov

Style of play: passing, passing, passing, GOAL!

Line 3 (Tigers):
LW Sam Ivanov
C Phil Tigrov
RW Slavik Milikov
D Ivan Markeev
D Artem Ushatik

Style of play: Start out in own zone, lure the opponent in, and counterattack!

Line 4 (Waves):
LW Cake Adamov
C Gordo Bomb
RW Charlie Shen
D Rob Smit
D Rob Kashpirski

Style of Play: tough on defense, hitting for turnovers, trying to intercept the puck, stretch passes

Goaltenders:
Victor Stolichnuy - had a 96% overall saving percentage, faced a lot of shots. Team lost in the semis, as they couldn't score
Basil Catnip - despite the humorous surname, Basil's team, the Rockets, took second place, in a large part due to Basil's 92% overall saving percentage. If Basil could play with stability, he would rival Stolichnuy, as his talent surpasses Victor's, but he's still young.
Erema Aleksandrov - Taken as a sub-goaltender, because his team, the Torpedo, won Gold. His 90% average saving percentage is not the best, and considering his defensive support, it should be better.

Head Coach: Steve Uriev
Manager/CEO: Ivan Moneybags
Domestic Clubs: Torpedo, Rockets, Tigers and Waves (Yes, there were a lot of jokes in Shofercia when Torpedo defeated Rockets in the finals.)

Republic Hockey Team Arrives in Plutoni; Prepares for World Cup

From the Republic Associated Times, 2011.2.09.28

After one of the longest plane rides in the history of the National Team, the Avatarian Ice Bisons arrived in the far-away land of Plutoni.

The twenty-eight men of the Avatarian National Ice Hockey Team boarded the national airline GyatsoAir's pristine Airbus A380 for the distant lands of Plutoni following a State Dinner with the Avatar. Before the team boarded the A380, the Avatar gave his blessing to the team, calling for The Spirits to bring them great victory. In addition ---given a good number of the team are Mandalorian --- a Mandalorian War Chant, known as a A’kaan’redal was performed by the Combined Tribes of the South; during the dance, Head Coach Kad Skirata joined the performers in a most spirited of showings.

To honour the return of the Ice Bisons to the International Stage, GyatsoAir --- in partnership with the AHL and the National Sports Council --- have further reduced the prices of airline tickets to Plutoni to facilitate the spectatorship of the nation for this historic series; given the great distances to Plutoni, the National Sports Council has pulled together with the Avatarian Federation of Lodging Institutions to create several packages available which will include lodging for the duration of the series as well as airplane tickets. These partnerships are intended on boosting the attendance of Avatarian Fans at the World Cup of Hockey XVI. In addition, each game the Bisons play in shall be aired on the entire ASPN family of networks (ASPN Prime, ASPN2, AVS, ASPN3, UASPN): All other games shall air on the World Sports Nation and World Sports Nation PLUS. If the Bisons make it to the higher rungs of the World Cup, then all games shall be aired exclusively on ASPN Prime, which is being made available on all television and internet-provider services at NO COST from now until the conclusion of the World Cup.

The ‘Great Wall of Shu’ makes his return to the World Cup of Hockey, coming off of his first season with the Montréal Royals of Cotdelapoms; while the Royals only placed fifth, Shu represented our nation well in the Cotdelapoms Hockey Leaque. However, his departure from the AHL has hurt his relationship with the team and many of his fellow Capital players, who feel that his departure from the league and the Caps is the reason they did so poorly throughout the season and lost to the Miners in the Semi-finals.

His style of play has not changed since he’s left the AHL; your classic butterfly goalie with more of the modern profly positioning of his leg pads, Shu had the fastest reflects of any goaltender in the AHL and now has shown the world his skills. However, he is not as agile as men of shorter stature and as such, is known to lose the puck on the rebound as he attempts to 'catch up' to the play… something he still has not worked around while in Montréal.

LD – 32– SATO Sorua
Height: 191cm - Weight: 100kg – Age: 21 years old – Hand: R - Team: University of Kibago (ACSA)

A second line defenceman from the Junior National Team which finished second in last year’s World Junior Hockey Championships, Sato Sorua is a strong player whom Kad Skirata sees great promise in. Though he has yet to be drafted and thus is not an professional player, Sato has the skills and morale of a professional; taking advantage of every second on the ice as a chance to better his game.

A strong defence player, Sato originally played the right side of the ice, however, Coach Skirata feels that a good defenceman can play both sides and as such, Sato has been switched up to test the theory. One of the greatest back-skaters in the game, he is set to become a regular facet of the Ice Bisons.

RD – 32– Pakku ITO
Height: 193cm - Weight: 108kg – Age: 29 years old – Hand: R - Team: Itakawai Lightning

The seasoned veteran of the Defensive line, Pakku Ito is returning to National Team with another Kuruk Cup under his belt. Awarded the Shield Trophy for the Most Valuable Defensive Player during The Playoffs, Ito has shown time and time again that the trade from The North has definitely played into his favour.

Great on the backskate and known for perfect poke-checking skills, Ito’s greatest strength is his ability to read the ice and predict the play with an uncanny certainty. He isn’t afraid of getting rough, which with his Mandalorian background, should come at no surprise.

LW – 06– NGO Du – ASSISTANT CAPTAIN
Height: 175cm - Weight: 73kg – Age: 21 years old – Hand: R - Team: Portsmouth Mallards (CDP)

The rising star of the World Cup, Ngo Du came into his own in much the same way as Ko Piando: The second-to-last pick of the National Team, Skirata thrusted him into the limelight as the RW of the First Line with Hakoda Ishii at Centre and Kuruk Ikeda on the left. With but two games under his belt, Ngo scored two goals in the eight game as well as nailing assists through the sixth and seventh games.

While he possesses great skill, Ngo is struck with the lack of experience and an ego becoming a member of the Foggy Swamp Tribes; he struggles to share the lights of the cameras with his team and often show-boats himself out of a goal and winds up with often more assists than goals. Even though Skirata spoke with Ngo about the ramifications of leaving the AHL for the CHL, Ngo left early last season and has come back a stronger, more mature player… though he still show-boats.

C – 04 – Hakoda ISHII – CAPTAIN
Height: 193cm - Weight: 93kg – Age: 25 years old – Hand: R - Team: Itakawai Lightning

The star forward of the five-time Kuruk Cup Champions, Hakoda Ishii returns to lead the Ice Bisons in yet another World Cup appearance. Scoring ten goals in WC15, Ishii has continued to mature through the 2011.1 Season; taking the lead in both Goals and Assists through the Season and then gaining the MVP of Playoffs.

A strong centre, Ishii is able to coordinate many a great highlight goal: With tremendous vision and terrific passing skills, he is the best two-way player in Gyatso-kai. Looking to do even better this time around, you can be sure that Ishii shall light the lamp at least once every game.

RW – 09 – Kuruk IKEDA
Height: 191cm - Weight: 95kg – Age: 22 years old – Hand: L - Team: Omashu Badgermoles

Though the Badgermoles this season did not do well --- placing ninth in the League and falling in the Quaterfinals --- Kuruk Ikeda has continued to gain stock value in the AHL. Rumor has it that a trade is in the works, to pair up Ikeda with Ishii for a truly memorable 2011.2 season. However, it remains to be seen whether such a deal could be struck and if the two parties will even go for it.

A strong power forward, Ikeda is known for his smooth skating and his ability to snipe with the best in the league. Given his background with the Badgermoles, he has gained more skill in his passing department ; given his history of shooting first before waiting for a chance, this maturation will truly help the Ice Bisons.

LD – 18 – KO Piandao
Height: 188cm - Weight: 95kg – Age: 25 years old – Hand: R - Team: St-Fortunat Saints(CDP)

Incredibly accurate with his passing and known for his interception skills, Ko has seen some great development while he played in Cotdelapms. His strength is still one of his greatest assets, an assest he is not afraid to use on the ice; known for putting more than his fair share of men into the boards, Ko garnishes at least two penalties a game for his roughness... Something he is proud of.

When asked to describe Ko, Coach Skirata compared him to his namesake, the dao --- or sword--- in that he teters on the edge of a finely-honed blade, and just a simple push will slice you in half: Ko is known to divide players with his impressive size and muscle pucks away from the foes before passing them off to an open player. While his shot power is weaker than most Lightning players, his accuracy is second only to three-time All-Star Shot Contest winner Hakoda Ishii.

RD – 05 – FENG Tao
Height: 183cm - Weight: 88kg – Age: 28 years old – Hand: L - Team: Île-d'Elisabeth Osprey(CDP)

Playing in the AHL for the last four years and the last year in the CHL, Feng Tao has seen a very interesting year; while his years on the Badgermoles saw the team grow from nothing to notoriety, the year in Cotdelapoms for the *smudge smudge* have given him just a little more of an edge. Feng is known for being a 'double threat", equally able to pull back and block any pass made by the opposition, only to turn that pass around and snipe a shot into goal.

While is backskating is impressive, Feng has struggled with the switch ever since a torn Achielles tendon weakened his right ankle last season: Many blame his less-than-stellar performance in the WCoH15 on that injury and he has continued the conditioning of that ankle to increase its strength, In addition, he heavily favours the foreshot, almost never taking a backhand to the puck and nearly always shoots from the right side of the ice: Though his style is predictable, the speed and finesse he gives the shot makes the end-result unpredictable.

LW – 02 – Arnook ISHIDA ASSISTANT CAPTAIN
Height: 188cm - Weight: 92kg – Age: 20 years old – Hand: L - Team: Albionpool Oak Leafs (CDP)
The first assistant captain of the Makapu Flames last year became the First Assistant Captain of the Ice Bisons after his impressive showing during WCoH15, adding not only thirteen starting games to his resume, but an array of assists and goals throughout the tournament. In the time since WC15, Ishida has been increasing his passing skills as well as strengthening his own backskating.

A solid winger capable of playing both sides of the ice equally, Ishida's only weakness is his age; though he was drafted at 18 to the Flames, he has gained little experience in the more-offence-based Fire Division and, after a year in Cotdelapoms, his skill-set has begun to show such.

Playing last season under the twenty-third place Kyoshi Warriors, Hei Hayate has reached the end of his four-year contract with his hometown team. Where he will go is still up in the air, however, with the last-placed Wulong Panthers having traded their First Round pick to the Ramikade for the goaltender Illo’illo Yueng, it is almost certain he will join the ranks of those in Kyrimorut.

A very strong centre, much like his first-line counterpart, Hei is known for his strength at coordinating the forward line to execute many a great plays. With excellent vision and adequate stick handling, Hei has earned the respect of his team while maintaining the strength and form of players much younger than him.

One of the star players of the World Junior Hockey Championships with two goals and six assists, Wad’e Tay’haai has certainly seen his stock grow ever since. Set to graduate from Keldabe State University with his degree in Aerospace Engineering, Tay’haai is predicted to be drafted in the first round within the first two teams.

A very strong youthful skater, the fact that Tay’haai garnished a position on the second line is testament to his skills. A powerful right-winger, his skill in the faceoff is impressive, having yet to lose a faceoff in his entire ACSA career. He is a strong player for someone his size; however, he wll need to add quite a few more pounds of muscle before he is set to sweep the AHL Draft.

A massive man on the ice, Iwai Itsuki has earned the nickname “The Unagi” after the legendary sea monsters who live around Kyoshi Island. Fast and a hard-hitter, Iwai knows how to use his size to usher an opponent into the boards with little to no chance of their ‘survival’.

With a lack-luster style of passing, Iwai must rely on his right defensive partner to get the rock from opponents while he muscles them out of possession. His shooting skills are weak, however, the speed and agility he possess make up for the lack in offensive skills.

RD – 25 – JIANG Tujing
Height: 193cm - Weight: 99kg – Age: 19 years old – Hand: L - Team: Saigon City College

Having grown nearly five centimetres and gaining three kilograms since his WJHC3 premiere, Jiang Tujing is becoming an impressively sized defenceman. While many at the WJHC saw a great player in the making, Coach Skirata saw a player in need of work. “Much like a sword”, spoke Skirata at last week’s Meet The Team Press Conference, “Jiang needs to be sharpened and honed to a sharp point. I see in him much that I saw in (Ito Pakku) many years ago… and hopefully he can come to age much the same.”

With his size, one would expect such a player to be a physical beast with little else to go for him. Instead, what you get with Jiang is a defenceman whose speed rivals the best centres, whose accuracy rivals the best snipers and whose vision is almost unmatched. However, as Skirata said, he needs work until he becomes a viable option on the first line. Luckily for him, there is at least two more AHL seasons before he is eligible.

An option for the second line, Pak Dae Li was re-delegated to the third line following the addition of Wad’e Tay’haai to the team. Even though he played on the second line in WCoH XV following the Cassadaigua Fiasco, Skirata feels that Pak needs more development before he can be promoted again.

While he has a few strengths, his weakness of poor vision has cost Pak his position. In addition, his lackluster speed and passing leave very little to be desired in this young player from Ba Sing Se. Of course, given the third-to-last position of the Bears, how could one expect a player to mature on such a team?

C – 33 – TORU Akiak
Height: 185cm - Weight: 92kg – Age: 24 years old – Hand: R - Team: Republic Capitals
Much like Pak Dae Li, Toru Akiak isn’t expected to play a good amount of time in the World Cup this year. He worked his way up the line in Republic Centre as he gained the Second Assistant Captain position following the injury of Olof Kolosji and since has continued to better his game. However, with such developments small in contrast to those of the younger players, he has yet to shine any brighter.

Being able to do everything well, but nothing great is something which is bothersome to many a coachers; for a player who was drafted last year and has been on two teams, the gift that Coach Antinanco gave him in the place of 2nd Ass.Captain was in the hopes of giving him a solid future as a Cap. We shall have to wait and see, with the official position of Captain still being vacant with the departure of Shu….

RW– 28 – KIMA Yagone
Height: 196cm - Weight: 102kg – Age: 29 years old – Hand: L - Team: Republic Capitals

Kima Yagone is a puzzle in and of himself; with the body of a defenceman, one would expect to see Kima shoving players into the boards and checking his way to victory. Instead, we see Kima skating around the net, poking pucks through the nets with effortless ability. His speed is unmatched on the third line and his handling skills is on par with the best of his team.

However, for a player of his age, he has been passed between five different teams in four years and has yet to settle in age. Instead, his maturity off the ice is lacking as is his ‘control’. Skirata wil have a hard time reigning in Kima’s mouth and attitude this Championship.

Of note to the Reserve List are several changes. Bei Fong Lo --- who was on the second line in last year’s World Cup --- is now on the reserves following his downfall on the Republic Capitals’ roster: Given a five game suspension for his fight with Hakoda Ishii in the final games of the regular season, he has not yet earned the respect from his fellow players. In addition, Kuang Deniigi of the U-21 team has earned a spot on the National Team following a stellar performance during the ACSA Frozen Four in which the RCSU team narrowly lost to the eventual-winner Keldabe State. Another U-21 player to gain entry to the National Team is Centre Walon Vau, who during the WJHC 3 scored six goals --- including a hat-trick in Game 3 --- as well as five assists. He also scored the game-winning goal in the ACSA Hockey Championships.

FEDERATION OF POLAR ISLANDSTATES WCoH16 ROSTER

Ice Hockey in the Federation, for all its climate may hint at a national obsession, is still lounging well below football and rugby in terms of popularity. However, it's appeal is growing faster than any other sport at the moment, and its traditional heartlands in the east and south are starting to spread towards its other hotbed in Kuril Arkhipelago. That said, the sport is under-developed as a whole, and the team is not expecting to shine in these championships. nevertheless, the recent foundation of the NHPL has given rise to some hope amongst the establishment that the team will be able to get stronger soon.

Ice Hockey has only just ceased being played by states in the Federation, and teams have been able to fairly quickly determine which teams are strongest, with the Scotian teams excelling and producing a hotbed of players for the team. That said, all players here (bar the players already in the Cotdelapomais - to be edited in later) are in the shop window during this tournament for people who post hockey leagues. Polarians are a warm bunch, every as warm as the land they habit is cold, and are ruthlessly efficient and athletic almost naturally. They are pacifists by nature, and will rarely start fights. This doesn't mean they won't fight back, of course...

Given that we're somewhat outside the mainstream of normal sports RP settings, I don't completely mind people ignoring this background if they prefer a more realistic approach. But it's there if you want it.

Plutoni is essentially a libertarian, futuristic, highly urbanized...place (there are some details I haven't really pinned down). It's not quite at the level of your average "future tech" roleplaying country (no interstellar travel, no super-soldiers--no soldiers of any kind, exactly, the government is that small). As the issues suggest, however, "major internet servers have acquired citizenship." So expect more in the way of "smart houses" and "smart apartments" and "smart train lines" and "smart toasters," etc. And some smart androids walking around the place, but a lot of the population exists "in the cloud," as it were.

Most of Plutoni is a large city, so words such as "north," "south," "southeast" refer as much to those specific parts of town as the directions themselves. Suburbs are spread more or less symmetrically around the city limits, with the exurbs even farther away. Teams uncomfortable with significant interaction with non-humans might find the exurbs more welcoming, although they're the butt of jokes from the rest of the country. There's also Char, the "Nuusuburb," we won't make any of you go out there, the commute is too long.

Plutoni is very much a free-market society, although somehow the government has gotten enough money to set up wildlife preserves (mostly for tortoises) and help support the education system. Locals might claim to speak English, but the local dialect isn't very intelligible (so the readable message boards that have gotten some international attention are actually a relatively small minority). Translation software (more-or-less sentient and otherwise) should help with this, though.
You're not a vacuum; you're a black hole!

GOALIES
Jean-Claude Gorges (Burnaby MLHC)
The type of goalie who seems to get better the more shots he faces. Likes to come out to challenge shooters.

Joseph Akin (Dinamo Lupinissia)
Good flexibility and positioning, excellent glove work, but has a tendency to cough up unfortunate rebounds.

Lewis Belani (Breton Emeralds)
Experienced starter getting a third-string role on the national team and secretly hoping Akin coughs up a lot of unfortunate rebounds.

DEFENCEMEN
Sven Stefanovic (Neorvins Wolves)
A very ungentle giant equally prized for his fearless shotblocking and his "sandpaper" factor; gets under the skin and invokes frustration amongst opposition forwards, but also has a reputation as a dirty player.

Rob Fletcher (Kirkenes Dragons)
Hard-nosed and hardworking, doesn't hesitate to block shots and clear the brush in front of the net.

Stephane Lefèvre (CS Val d'Argent)
A fast and skilled player who can make great breakout passes and quarterback the powerplay.

Frédéric Arnal (Colwyn HC)
Scrappy offensive defenceman who comes out of the corners with the puck more often than not.

Colin Calderwood (Internationale Latrobe) A
Hard-hitting stay-at-home defenceman who camps out on the points waiting to unleash his wicked slap shot.

Josh Mulroney (Mazinaw Knights)
Skilled and quick defenceman who doesn't hesitate to join an offensive rush.

Louis Guillemot (Olympique Langlois)
Technically sound and doesn't often let opponents get past him, but has a tendency to take undisciplined penalties.

Kevin Sheridan (Breton Emeralds)
Young and exciting defensive player with good speed and a quick release shot.

FORWARDS
Laurent Oberforsky (CH Outineau)
Playmaking skill forward who likes to dump the puck and set up plays from behind the net.

Pierre Dubois (Burnaby MLHC)
Uses his good hand-eye coordination to lurk near the net trying to score deflections.

Phillip Adams (Dinamo Lupinissia)
A great puckhandler who skates circles around most defencemen. Doesn't have the best shot, however.

Gary Bavarillo (Internationale Latrobe)
A physical player, he's quick to pounce on rebounds and it's not easy to clear this guy away from the net. Enjoys trying to wind up the opposition goalie.

Séverin Jeanne (CH Outineau) C
Sporting and determined, the heart-and-soul captain of one of the KHL's most history and tradition-laden teams. A deadly sniper as far as shooting bits of rubber is concerned.

Harry White (Kirkenes Dragons)
Occasionally impulsive, as his running off during a previous World Cup to get married to one of the Secristan ice girls shows, but a solid and reliable two-way player.

Ben Connaught (Internationale Latrobe)
Young playmaking forward who uses his skill to deke past defenders.

Taylor Austin (Faucons de Saint-Rémy)
Big and speedy power forward, shot doesn't have the best accuracy but a good run of form got him the call-up.

Marko Russlund (Jokerit Arvika)
Intimidating presence on the ice, his size belies his excellent technique and grasp of the tactical aspects of the game. Can thread tape-to-tape passes through forests of legs and sticks.

Denis Roche (CH Outineau)
Rough and tumble player who likes to forecheck and pressure the breakout pass.

Tyler Jones-Bailey (Kenora Thistles)
Not quite the Next Big Thing but a talented youngster with all the makings of a power forward.

Shaun O'Leary (Partisans Clayquot)
Deceptive shooter who can often fool the goalie with a quick release or a backhander.

Leigh Blunt (Olympique Langlois)
A pretty boy who reels in his share of puck bunnies, but isn't afraid to battle through bigger and tougher defenders to get to the net.

Evan Chong (Burnaby MLHC)
Another young 'un with much potential to fulfill, widely tipped for a breakout year anytime now. A complete package, he shoots, passes and checks well.

CASSADAIGUA WORLD CUP OF HOCKEY 16 ROSTER

Coach: Courtney Rangen, 54 (2nd WCOH)
Assistant: Sarah Kennedy, 48
Assistant: Melanie Roy, 47 (Starting goalie for the WCOH 8 championship team)

Goalies:
Starter: #33- Stacie Dupree, 26 (6'1", 192) First time starting
Backup: #35- Christina Randolph, 32 (6’3”, 211)

In WCOH 15, Randolph started and Dupree was the backup. Might this create controversy?

Starting Lineup:

Line 1:

LW: #11- Danielle Martin, 24 (6'1", 193)
C: #16- Meghan Stafford (C), 28 (5'11" 166)
RW: #37- Stefanie Hughes, 27 (5'10, 172)

Stefanie customarily plays on the LW, but with the departure of Danielle Castleberry due to age and the quick emergence of Martin, Hughes was asked to switch. In practice, she has attained the confidence of the coaching staff that the transition will be smooth and painless. Stafford is the most prolific goal scorer in our history, allowing there to be some focus put away from her stunning beauty.

Line 2:

LW: #44- David Stoddard, 26 (6'8", 241) First time as a regularly dressed player
C: #23- Megan Sommerville, 29 (6’2”, 207)
RW: #19- Rachel Cooke, 25 (6'2", 194)

Sommerville and Cooke have been linemates now for the 3rd WCOH. Stoddard is a new addition, and is the kind of power forward every team would want, even us!

Line 3:

LW: #12- Bridget Ashford, 28 (6'6", 225)
C: #25- Julie O’Connell (A), 34 (5’8”, 172)
RW: #10- Byron Washington, 27 (6'7" 245)

No changes to the checking line. O’Connell is Miss Selke in Cassadaigua if you get my point. Washington isn’t afraid to, and rather enjoys, dropping the gloves, but he can stick it in the net too.

Line 4:

LW: #22- John Brown, 26 (6'4" 237)
C: #17- Natalie Conroy, 26 (5'10, 167)
RW: #18- Katia Kasitonov, 19 (5'8" 159) First time on team

Brown is a fighter, but Conroy and especially Kasitonov capable goal scorers and not here to fight. Our 4th line, other then Brown, should be seen as a “kid” line, not a goon line.

D Pair 1:

LD: #2- Kim Garrett (A), 32 (6'3" 205)
RD: #3- Samantha Preston, 27 (6'1", 204)

Garrett is more a stay-at-home type, while Preston will eagerly join the offensive rush.

D Pair 2:

LD: #52- Michael Macchio, 23 (6'7", 231)
RD: #7- Cheryl Tollner, 31 (6'5" 226)

Both are gritty checkers, with a defense first, second, and third mentality

D Pair 3:

LD: #32- Timothy Lyons, 29 (6’4”, 215)
RD: #4- Charlotte Stanley, 26 (6’2”, 207)

Lyons is capable defensively, but has a wicked slapshot. Stanley was accepted to the team because of her last name. Well, and she’s a pretty good stay at home type, too.

PP Unit 1: Martin-Stafford-Hughes; Garrett-S. Preston
PP Unit 2: Stoddard-Sommerville-Cooke; Macchio-Lyons
PK Unit 1: O’Connell-Sommerville; Garrett-Macchio
PK Unit 2: Ashford-Washington; S. Preston- Tollner

At times, Sommerville will replace Garrett as a 4th forward on the PP, but not too often. If this happens, then if the second pair is needed, it will be Natalie Conroy or Katia Kasitonov getting some PP time.

Reserves:

W: #45- John Miller, 20 (6'2" 212)- First time on team
W: #9- Brenda McGuire, 32 (5’8”, 176)
W: #14- Jessica Stasberg, 25 (6'3, 225)
W: #77- Rob Boucher, 27 (6'6", 241)
C: #61- Kiersten Woodford, 25 (5'11", 172)
C: #13- Brett Gannon, 25 (6'7", 245)
D: #36- Ciara Patenaude, 24 (6'4", 191)
D: #6- Brittany Desjardins, 23 (6'2", 179)
D: #38- Michael DeLauria, 24 (6'8", 242)
D: #5- Katie Robinson, 24 (6'3", 182)
G: #34- Kaitlyn Oakley, 23 (6'2", 198)
