Mapletish lost 6-1 to Darmen U21..
The First Market Cup match goes uneasy for the dragon protectors.
Six Strikes from Darmen U21 prove too much for Mapletish
The afternoon shone brightly when Mapletish and Darmen U21 faces off each other.SOunds more like a cup final then a group stage match.Darmen started the game well, pushing the ball on to the shakky defence and just at the 2nd minute of the game,Darmen pushes up with amazing footfront as they score from a one on one situation.
Another chance came at the 4th minute into the game as Delan Dans chased on one of the Darmen forward and he clumsily brought him down. The referee pointed to the spot, without any hesitation,Darmen calmly put it away.Darmen keep hold of their 2-0 lead at half-time.In the second half,Darmen once again strike into the shakky defence line of Mapletish and Danny Newis deflected a shot by one of the Darmen's player and it went pass Denis Wala.Putting the scoreline to a 3-0.In the 70th minute,Darmen pushes into the shakky defence once again and one of its player shot from the edge of the penalty box.Denis Wala's butter fingers let in a weak shot by Darmen.Puting the scoreline to 4-0.Up till now Mapletish hasn't got out of their own half...In the 80th minute,Darmen once again got a chance, this time a mistime tackle by Delan Dans cause Mapletish a freekick outside of the box,19 yards from the goal. The freekick taker took the shot calmly curling it into the top right hand corner of the goal, putting the score to 5-0.Mapletish seems to be lacking the momentum to continue and it seems true as Denis Wala repeated the same mistake again, mishandling the ball in the 85th minute.
The scoreline chanced hands to 6-0.In the 89th minute,Mapletish finally broke through the defence line through Linodaona Maja a pass to Takashi Domi and a simple tap in by him makes the scoreline to 6-1.

After the match,Francis Roberto praises the team performance saying that their performance is pretty good as they manage to get their passes going and at least score a goal. However he was not quite satisfied with the defence as they let in an own-goal which was an embarrasing thing. He also commented on Denis Wala's poor performance letting in two butter-fingering goal.He says " Well, everybody makes mistakes,we just have to know where we have done wrong and maybe I should do a labatory training session tomorrow to further access my team's performance and also book an appointment with Sir Strellas Bily,to discuss the team's performance."

Turn over to see the Sir Strellas Billy press conference on Home United's performance so far and his comments on the victory against Moonchester United yesterday.

Brendino the Third Draws First Ever Match
The international squad for Brendino the 3rd played in its first ever match, drawing the nation of Howdeelow 1-1. After an uneventful first half, Howdeelow went on the board first with a beautiful goal before midfielder Wesley van Lammeren scored the equalizer with 5 minutes remaining. Brendino the 3rd's goalkeeper Jayden McKenzie held off the opposing offense to hold the tie with a brilliant save in stoppage time before forward Joseph Pratt narrowly missed the net on the counter attack. McKenzie finished the game with 7 saves, including one on a penalty kick after Zak Townsend fouled Howdeelow's forward in the box in the 75th minute. After the game, captain William Fleming said, "I'm very proud of the team effort today in our first match. We need to improve both offensively and defensively if we hope to compete for the Market Cup final."

From the Gamelon Times:

A Better Result, but Still Work to Do

The Gettysburg11 national team put on a better showing in Sunday's game against Thatius, but still showed that they are a new team still getting their feet wet in international play. Jimmy Anderson scored a historic first goal for the infant team in the 65th minute to level the score at 1-1, bursting through the defense and tucking the ball away clinically into the bottom left corner, but many other chances went straight into the Thatius keeper's hands.

The defense looked better after a disastrous effort in their first match, but still had one breakdown that led to the Thatius goal in the 41st minute. The defenders were caught ball-watching down the left flank while the opposing attacker snuck in behind and headed the cross home. A few other minor mistakes occurred throughout the match, but goalkeeper Alexander Smithson had a superb performance, making 6 saves in all.

Manager Roger Johnson called the performance "a definite improvement," but still admitted that "we still have work to do. There's always room for improvement, and we will show that improvement in our future matches." The national team's next match is against group leaders Saugeais U-21.

Saugeais Sports Briefs
Foxes proving to be the best football team in Saugeais

The Saugeais under-21 football team has ventured into winning territory in the past couple tournaments. In the 19th Di Bradini Cup, Saugeais rattled off 6 straight wins in the group stage and knockout round until being knocked out by the Golden Tamarind. Not being deterred by the unfortunate loss, the Foxes were called upon by the Saugeais Football Association to represent the nation in the 4th Market Cup. With something to prove, the Foxes wanted to make an impact on the competition. And so far, they are on pace to follow in their DBC showing. The Foxes have set up two straight wins over Thatius (3-0) and Hakkland (1-0). Commenting on their strong form as of late, manager Harrison Pinchot said that he believes that the winning has led the team to be extremely confident in their play, but can't get too cocky. "We must play smart at all times. Whether big or small in footballing ability, we shall play each team the same. I'm proud of my boys that they've been great over the past two tournaments, and I'll be sad to see them leave my team. But hopefully, Mr. Howard [the national manager] will notice the talent on my squad and include them in some of matches in the future. One player in particular, Kuzman Ruslan, has already scored twice this Cup, both against Thatius, while the other goal scorers include Erik Witold and Kelley Oliver. The Foxes will face Gettysburg11 in the next match and look to pull off a win to qualify for the knockout stage.

Mapletish beats Wadomia 3-0
Takashi Domi lights up the show....
Mapletish started the game as clear underdogs after lossing to Darmen 6-1 in the previous game.Wadomia took procession early and have chances on the goal.A missed penalty by Wadomia in the 30th minute of the game was enough to scare Mapletish out of their wits.Mapletish was awarded with a free kick in the 44th minute after Takashi Domi was brought down by one of the defenders, this prompt Takashi to score from this free kick in which he did.
Mapletish go into the break leading the interval. In the second half,Takashi sees his chances go down the drain after 6 chances being ruled out as offside. In the 70th minute,Takashi was rewarded for his determination as he scores from a one on one.Takashi finishes the game with a hat trick in the 89th minute with a penalty.Clearly one of the most skillful performance so far.Sir Strellas Billy who was present at the game said that the team is still no yet at the best and will have to improve on their tactical awareness since processionwas lost early in the game and the aim is to get the ball back fast after a loss in procession.
This win sees Mapletish sit third behind Darmen U21.

Fuzz thrash hapless Hakkland

Hakkland - 0

FSSO - 4

Needle 12, 40(Pen)
Paranaya 17
Sharp 32

A clever double from a superb Sam Needle and goals from Julesk Paranaya and Lee Sharp ensured the FSSO swept away Hakkland in a sizzling first half performance.[b]

On the back of a comfortable 2-0 victory over Gettysburg11, the Fuzz were buzzing and travelled to bottom of the group Hakkland. In front of a very quickly diminishing 30,000 crowd, the FSSO wrapped the game up before half time. The floodgates opened after just twelve minutes as Needle scored first yet again, sweeping home John Bucksons low cross with his left foot.

The youngster Buckson had been selected for the second consecutive game in the light of Carlos Aduna's injury, and in another good performance he was unlucky not to score himself as his curling free kick two minutes later hit the post. But it would be defender Julesk Paranaya who extended the lead - hoping to take Grant Davis' place in the squad, he showed his Davis like heading ability with a powerful header into the top corner from McCrofts corner.

The game was seemingly over by the 32nd minute when the score became to 3-0 and Hakkland fans began to flood out of the stadium. Lee Sharp produced yet another classy finish as he latched on to a Needle long ball and went around the goalkeeper, passing the ball into the net. The first half rout was completed eight minutes later when Buckson was tugged down in the box by a Hakkland defender, resulting in a penalty kick which Needle swiftly rifled into the top corner.

Although the first half had been a throughly professional demolition, manager Ben Randall will be dissapointed the FSSO lacked the same clinical edge in the second half. They missed a host of chances and should've put the score into double figures, the most notable waste of a chance being Sam Needle wasting his hat trick chance by shooting wide with a clear run on goal and the Hakkland keeper stranded outside his box. Needle somehow managed to miss despite his shot seemingly being headed towards the goal.

Loss Eliminates Gettysburg11 from Contention

Another disappointing 2-0 loss, this time to the talented Saugeais U21 squad, has eliminated the new Gettysburg11 national team's bid in the Market Cup IV, leaving them still seeking their first win. Defensive struggles, the problem throughout the whole tournament, reared their ugly heads again, with 1 goal coming after a horrid whiffed clearance and the other on an absolute firecracker from an unmarked Saugeais player at the edge of the box. The offensive chances that had appeared relatively frequently in the first 2 matches vanished, as the team only managed to muster a pathetic 2 shots on goal. It all culminated together into another sloppy performance that left fans watching in silent horror.

Manager Roger Johnson commented "Of course we're disappointed, why wouldn't we be? This was our first tournament however, and as we become more experienced on the international stage, we will hopefully continue to improve and become more of a challenge for these top-class teams. With some more work on the training ground and further development of our youth soccer system, anything is possible."

1 more meaningless game against Hakkland remains, then the team will return home as they have the bye for the final matchday.

Disappointing Loss Puts Brendino the 3rd Behind
After a disappointing 3-0 loss to ABK, Brendino the 3rd are in the bottom of Group D and counting on a win. Despite a promising first match, Brendino the 3rd couldn't hold off a more experienced and talented ABK squad and immediately let up a pair of goals in the first half after an injury to goalie Jayden McKenzie. After halftime McKenzie returned and Brendino the 3rd's defense tightened up and only a fluke goal in stoppage time increased the lead. In an after match press conference, the coach stated, "We need to improve our defense. Even though Fleming is doing an excellent job leading the team, mistakes are killing us."

Mapletish loses to Erathore..1-0,1 strike is enough to end it all

After a disappointing game for Mapletish in Group B,losing to Erathore who maintained their top spot, proves no pain to Mapletish as clamied by Takashi Domi.Mapletish started the game poorly with almost no tempo and if not for the goal scored by Erathore early in the game,Mapletish might no have lose the match.Erathore lined up a simple passing game into the Mapletish half, and just shot on sight as Denis Wala went out of position.Lee Shin Dong responded to this goal by shooting the ball from halfway line to the goal, the ball almost went into the net as the keeper tries to take a hand on it.Mapletish went dangerous after that chance and tore the defence line whenever they have the ball and Takashi Domi or Lee Shin Dong couldn't get their shots on target, resulting an early subsitution of Lee with Lakinson.Lakinson tried hard to break the defence line with Takashi,Jojo Damas and Liondona Maja but Lakinson wasn't able to convert his chances well too.Mapletish sees chances flew out of their sight as they were unable to do anything about it.Francis Roberto stand patiently at the sideline with a simle on his face after the final whistle.
Roberto said after the game that Mapletish did a good job, with good counterattacking ballwork with Danny Newis to praise, good passing around with the whole team to praise, not on par finishing skills by the forwards but he was satisfied as Mapletish were clear underdogs in group B.
"The game was well played and in every game we play, there is also something that we can learn, even if we lose, the opponents were still respectful enough to share with us what they think about the team's play.I was surprised by Ricardo Villa when he shared with us that he found playing with Mapletish an experience that he would never forget.Takashi might not have scored today but the determination that he has put in is not possible to be counted as he would seek to improve himself after this match."

Triimoria Informer

And On It Goes..

Triimoria's poor Market Cup performance continues with a 0-0 draw against Andromeda Islands.

Today was Triimoria's third match in the fourth Market Cup. They drew 0-0 against the Andromeda Islands. Suprised? No? Thought not. Triimoria's run of less than stellar performances continues with this latest result. All in all it was a dull match. Shooting was poor. As was creativity. Though defence was rather excellent.
Nothing really happened. Until the twentieth minute. High lobs went back and forth between the two halves as the teams refused to move out of their half and make any sort of attacking attempt. Finally a sluggish pass from George Lightning to Adrian Atov was intercepted by an Andromedan striker. Now George, that was not a pass worthy of your name, was it? The striker closed in on goal. He entered the box. He hit a furious drive.. right over the bar. After this mistake Triimoria liven up they started to play some nice football. Eventually they earned a chance to put themselves in the lead. Hyooj hoofed the ball far into the Andromedan half Atov latched on to it. He skipped past one defender. Hit a short pass to Galeria. He let out a furious drive. It flew far over the bar. What a waste. Galeria is not quite on the explosive form he showed during the last Market Cup. Triimoria attacked again on the thirty-ninth minute. Some lovely passing play gave Quitazotl a chance in the box to put Triimoria ahead, but he did not strike it cleanly and the opposition keeper scooped it up. The first half drew to a close without a goal.
The Andromeda Islands were definitely the better team in the second half. They were unlucky not to score. Their first chance of the half came from an excellent cross in from one of their midfielder which their strikers failed to capitalize on and Farmer caught the ball. Triimoria conceded a corner in the fifty-fifth minute. An in-swinging corner came in and again Farmer caught it. Those were two good chances that possibly should have been goals. The seventieth minute as the game enters it's later stages. Triimoria finally get a chance at goal. Again Quitazotl runs a trademark run down the wing and hits in a cross. Ozzaguira at the far post. Ozzaguira leaps up. He misses his header! A good chance goes begging. In the last ten minutes Triimoria were under severe pressure. The Andromedans were cutting them apart with a great passing display. On the eighty-sixth minute the best chance of the game fell for the Andromedan Islands. An Andromeda Islands striker entered the Triimoria box. Hendrick Hansen went in with a slide tackle. He takes down the player. Penalty!!! Hendrick Hansen is shown a yellow card. He may well have shamed himself very early in his career if the Andromeda Islands score. Up steps the striker. He starts his run up. He hits the ball. It flies through the air. Farmer dives. Fabulous save!! Farmer again proves despite his aging years that he stills has what it takes to keep Triimoria in this cup. After these exciting events the game ends without further excitement.

EL Sports Center

Your only stop for legal sporting information; by the people (and government journalists), for the people.

New beginnings and the Market Cup.

Yes, this is former Gazette editor Steven Smith, reporting from my prison cell, here in Dillvill Ocean, which by the way has rather brilliant wi-fi coverage, but never mind that. What you should know however is that I've been charged with setting up the new online sports paper, which is currently in its beta phase but will be going fully public next week.

What this is is a replacement for the paper, and it is a sports paper which anyone can submit articles on any sport at any level (school, amateur or professional, just not little toddlers being forced to do it on camera; that's pointless) to. After submission, our team of crack editors (a team which I'm not part of) will see whether your article is good enough to be posted, with essential criteria being content, accuracy in grammar and subject coverage, with articles containing profane language, incomprehensible text that is impossible to be rectified, one-line aticles and anything else along that line being dropped. Still if you must rant about something, express that anger in a moderate way, but still express your point of view, these articles aren't supposed to be neutral (otherwise this experiment is pointless and I would have my job back). Viewing this site is free, but to submit articles you will have to register and be logged in (don't worry, membership is free).

Onto the main subject of this, which is the great event which has everyone talking: the 4th Market Cup, being held here in Eastfield Lodge. 19 teams from around the multiverse, a few/a lot of whom will never be heard about ever again, will join the Eastfield Lodge Under-21s to fight it out for a trophy in this rather odd tournament format, it has to be said, with knock-out tournaments not featuring at all. But among the 19 visitors, there are some who will present a serious challenge for the title: top seeds and 2nd edition winners Erathore, 1st edition winner FSSO, defending champions Wadomia, the U21 team of previous runners-up Darmen, initial hosts and runners-up Mangolana, the DBC19 powerhouses that are the Saugeais U21 team and some newbies who have been relatively strong since appearing, going by the name of ABK (more accurately, Abcdefghjklmnopqrstuk).

Three matchdays in, and of the teams listed above, only Wadomia have disappointed, failing to score a goal in 2 matches and failing to score a point. Saugeais are the only team to have won three matches, but a few teams still have perfect records, those teams being us, ABK and FSSO (who are in Saugeais' group). Onto our own matches, we started off with a hard-fought win against a new team called Triimoria, who certainly made the U21s work for the 4-2 win, but Kyle Ederion shifted the tempo early on with a well placed cross for RGS Juniors striker Tia Drenas to tap home, flat-footing keeper Joseph Farmer. The visitors saw the danger after that and tightened up, preventing us from scoring any more. This did mean that Triimoria were camped in their own half, but breaking out on their first attack 37 minutes into the match saw Abdur Rehman defending against two attackers, and ultimately failed to prevent Uzwin Ozzaguira from equalising. Three minutes later, some complicated build-up play somehow led to Tia Drenas restoring the lead, but the sequence leading up to it was so fast that only those watching slow-motion replays saw what happened. The first half ended 2-1 to us.

The second half was even more exciting, with Triimoria levelling the score within five minutes through another link-up between Ozzaguira and Quitazotl, with Ozzaguira grabbing his second goal of the match. Triimoria then went on the defensive, but Kyle Ederion's pace on the wing caused enough disarray in the Triimorian defence to allow Usman Butt enough space to power home a badly done clearance from the edge of the box three minutes after the hour mark. The game was sealed six minutes later by Usman Butt, who again made use of Kyle's pace to give himself a clear yard or two and met Kyle's cross with perfect precision and accuracy of his head. Both sides should have had more goals though, as Triimorian striker Ozzaguira blundered a chance to grab his hat-trick when he tripped over his own foot having done the hard work of clearing the last defender. However, the talking point of the last fifteen minutes came in the form of a blatant penalty which the referee failed to notice, involving an outstretched Triimorian leg, Tia Drenas on a hat-trick and Jimjemja (not a hard name to pronounce I must say). Final score: 4-2.

The team had a bye in the second week, but returned to action fully fit against a Megadia side who were looking to restart their World Cup careers. But the U21 team gave out a rather large dent in their hopes with a 6-1 drubbing, with Megadia taking the lead five minutes in through Brent Middleton. No matter. The EL goals, in order, came from Kyle Ederion (9th minute), Usman Butt (17th minute), Usman Butt (34th minute), Tia Drenas (56th minute), Ali Asif (69th minute) and Waleed Saqib (84th minute). Sorry for the abrupt ending, I'm running out of time and my jailers are waiting for me to do my daily exercises.

Thatius sunk by top of the group FSSO

Thatius - 0

FSSO - 1

Needle 87

Sam Needle's superb form continued as he scored his fourth goal in three games, and the FSSO wrapped up a third consecutive win and clean sheet - and now sit atop Group C.

After a clean cut smashing of Hakkland 4-0, the FSSO remained on the away bus as they made their way to Thatius. Thatius were aggressive early on and almost took a surprise lead when Mike Humphreys backpass was spilled by Daniel Belgrave - only for it to bump against the post and back into the grateful hands of Belgrave.

This dissapointment took the wind out of Thatius who from then on seemed like they were struggling to keep up, and were lucky to still be level at half time when Scott Daley's thumping 20 yard volley struck the post, bounced across the line and hit the other post before going out to a defender. Daley came close again in the second half, his header from John Bucksons free kick being just tipped over by the home sides goalkeeper.

The FSSO began to become frustrated as Thatius looked like they might just hold on for a goaless draw, but home hearts were shattered and away fans sent wild as late as the eighty seventh minute. Dennis Truch delivered a wishful cross into the box, too close to the keeper, but the keeper decided to punch the ball out - and it fell right to Needle, who gratefully volleyed it into the top left hand corner. The FSSO face their toughest test so far next - Saugeais' Under 21 team, who are arguably better than the Saugeais senior side.

Gettysburg11 Scores First International Victory against Hakkland

In a momentous match in Dilvill Park, the Gettysburg11 national team won its first match in international soccer competition, defeating Hakkland 2-0. After learning that this tournament's innovative format meant that they were not eliminated, the players came out onto the pitch with a vengeance, and took it to the Hakkland side from the first blow of the referee's whistle.

The first goal was scored by striker Johnathan Walters, as he placed the ball into the top corner of the net after a perfect through ball by wily midfielder Johann Valshin in the 7th minute of play. The insurance goal was added on in the 56th minute as Valshin got a hard header on a corner kick from the right side, easily beating the helpless Hakkland keeper.

The defensive problems that plagued the team through their first 3 matches were far less abundant on Saturday, with no major breakdowns occurring. The back line appeared more fluid, more together, more of a unit than 4 players thrown together. Veteran center back Phillip Lepzinger commented "We were finally able to go out there today and let it hang loose. We didn't feel as nervous and uptight as in the previous matches. Now that we know the attitude we need to have when we're playing, we can bring it to the pitch all the time."

The team also recieved a letter of commendation from President Michael Gregory, praising the team for their victory, but reminding them that their best is yet to come. Gettysburg11 has a bye on the next matchday, and will await their group placement for the second round.
