World Bowl 7 Sign-up Thread (Closed)

Postby Newmanistan » Tue May 26, 2009 7:26 pm

The Dancougar Black Wings have won it three times. Arroza, Rennidan, and Qazox have also experienced the glory. Newmanistan has been to two finals and Kura-Pelland is a perennial power. A handful of other nations sit right beneath them, like a Taeshan or a Secristan.

The powers of the World in gridiron (American Football) are known, and others have taken their shots. We have heard that there are aspiring nations out there, willing to show the world that they can also be a dominant nation in this brand of football.

It’s time for another get-together. There’s no reason to wait, let’s get this going. It’s World Bowl 7. If you wish to participate, this is where you sign up.

If you wish to host: Please submit a hosting bid, World Cup-style, on this thread by Friday, June 5th (noon Eastern USA time). If there are multiple bids, then all members of the World Bowl Committee (Which are previous participants in any World Bowl), will vote on the bid. If there is one bid, it will be automatically accepted UNLESS there is a general consensus among the WBC members that the bid is insufficient, and in which case a vote will held to accept or re-open bids.

The chosen host at that point will then “take things over”, deciding when to close signups and when to start the competition.

Note: In World Bowl 5, due to a high number of new participants, we held a “Baptism of Iron”, so that new users could differentiate themselves a little bit from their peers. This wasn’t needed in World Bowl 6, and whether or not it is to be included in World Bowl 7 will be something I let the chosen host decide.

Note 2: We generally refer to our brand of football as “gridiron”, or in some cases “gridball”, simply to avoid confusion between football and soccer. You’re more then welcome to call it football, though. Please, no commentaries over which sport you like better, this is not the place.

SIGNUPS ARE NOW CLOSED!!!!

Newmanistan signs up to get this started.

The Auric Wolves will be back, and might even manage to RP enough to get out of the fourth tier. :P

We MAY bid to host, but that's a big maybe. Hopefully I'll know more about my RL schedule before the deadline.

Hosting the World Bowl, like all sports competitions, is quite a bit of work.

You are also a new user, so you are better off remaining a participant at this time, getting a handle for how things are done in the World Bowl, as well as other competitions you may decide to participate in. With Bluth Corporation and Vephrall expressing their interest, we have two people who have experience hosting sporting events/competitions, and we'd like to see that experience in a host.

SIgnups updated through Lanceo.

Baptism of Iron II Bid. [provisional on having 8+ entrants]

Who's eligible:

All nations who have not played in a previous World Bowl or Baptism of Iron. [Ameriganistan; Allanea; Chetsaland; Lanceo; The Babbage Islands; Quakmybush; Vartican; Delaclava; Barbana; Sibirsky; Jagite]

What Exactly is the Baptism of Iron?

It's a tournament similar to the NS World Cup's Baptism of Fire. Basically, it's a way for newcomers to the World Bowl to get a chance to RP, and learn how some basic things work before you're thrown to the wolves of qualification. It's also a chance for teams to get some valuable ranking points, as every point counts.

Format:

Teams will be divided into groups, preferably groups of 4 or 5. Each team will play all other teams in their group, and the top teams will then proceed to a short knockout style stage to determine the eventual winner.

Group stage tiebreakers will be [in order]: Head to head result, point differential, playoff game.

Scorination:

Matches will be scorinated with NSFootySim 2.0.7.1. It is the same scorinator as N.S.F.S. 2.0.7, which has successfully been used for several World Cups, but with a football widget added to prevent us from having to do a lot of extra work.

Style modifiers will be between -5 and 5 [more on that later], PAT modifiers will be the standard three options [never go for 2, logical, always go for 2]

Scorination will generally be done between 8 and 10 PM Central Daylight Time.

RP Bonus: An RP is any in-character posts made by a nation from their last scorinated matchday to the one about to be scored. This means that nobody can stockpile during their bye, should they have one. There is an implicit matchday zero that begins when the Everything thread goes up, and all posts - including rosters - will count towards the bonus.

Teams will score between 0 and 3 points for any given RP based on quality, entertainment, and other concerns. RP's don't have to be long, or follow any set format...they should be as fun to write as they are to read. RP points are cumulative, but degrade over time so missing a day or two isn't going to be the end of the world, while still ensuring that active posters get a definite advantage over "fire and forget" entrants.

Past Experience:

Arroza successfully hosted World Bowl III.
