Samantha's Blog

In just two days, I will be exchanging blows in my first international fight. It is time to show the men that us women can fight as well, and my first opponent, Billy de Spinoza is someone I will look to give the reputation as being the first person to lose to a woman in heavyweight boxing. So, I had to be sneaky on the entry form and just call myself "Sam". Fighting a man is going to be as much of a new experience for me as it will be for the men in the competition when they face me. Since women are the superior gender here in Cassadaigua (and arguably, the world), I am only used to fighting other women as it is seen that if we were to step into the ring against a man we could easily win the fight. But in the world, male athletes seem to be the theme, and everyone else in this competition is male. I can't really say much right now because Billy might be reading so I can't say how I intend to win this fight. I just hope you will all be watching on Monday!

Henry Mayes was watching Mark during a sparring-match. He constantly found something to correct and told him with loud, but calm voice:

"More combinations. And pay attention to your cover."

They had been in training for weeks now. The first fight would be Paris Chevre from Las Lisque. They had analyzed countless of video records of his fights. He seemed like a good all around boyxer to them. It wouldn't be an easy fight, therefor were the two opponents too similar. But Mark would try to outwit him. He had to watch for failures in the adverse covering and use all chances while always trying to be on the move himself. It would be exhausting and require a lot of concentration.
But that was just what they were training for the whole last month. They backed down to the country, to the house they were currently in. They were absolutly isolated from the society. Mark hadn't given an interview the whole time and hadn't been at the parties he normally loved. he showed an iron will. The training brought him to perfect form. He was fitter than never and he would need it.

The Freiburg Herald

Mark Cook knocks out Paris Chevre

Mark Cook has won his first international boxing match against Paris Chevre from Las Lisque. The fight was good, much movement and good punches on both sides, and therefore relatively even.
Cook had a very good first round and could follow up till round four, where he knocked down Chevre the first time. Chevre got up again and recovered quickly during the break. A lot of movement on Chevre's side and a bit of inattentiveness on Cook's lead lead to the second knockdown of the fight, this time with Cook on the ground. Seemingly stunned, Cook lost control over the fight afterwards and Chevre was on advance, while Cook just was able to cover up or clinch. He was more than once trapped in the corner andd just his very good footwork could rescue him. As if this wasn't enough, he also got a swelling under his right eye, which affected his vision more and more during the next rounds. Chevre was winning the fight and both Cook and his corner knew it. The only thing that could save him was a KO. In round nine, Cook activated his last reserves for this goal. The final round brought the decision: Cook moved carefully and covered nicely, waiting for the right time. Then he shot a great combiantion to Chevre's temple, knocking him down. Chevre wasn't able to get up after this hit which lived up to Cook's nickname "Ironhammer".
The fight had great suspense in his balance in his starting phase and was still good to look at during Cook's weak time. With a great turn in the last, final round, the fight has exceeded all expectations and was definitly worth the audience's money.

OVERCONFIDENCE DOES GAINES IN

Sibirsky- Josh Gaines did nothing but gloat for the last few weeks after he was named the Newmanistanian representative in the heavyweight division of boxing. His style of going for the knockout immediately is something that he felt could get him easy wins, and when told about his first opponent, John Harvey of Seathen (a nation I can't stop thinking is Taeshan "scrambled" whenever I see it), Gaines had a simple response. "Whatever." Maybe not bulletin board material for Harvey but it didn't seem to help matters either. Gaines strutted the ring with background music "Papa said knock you out!" playing with extreme confidence. He gave high fives to the fans in the aisles, while stopping for a couple seconds in front of a couple pretty girls, before continuing to the ring. Harvey was much more professional about it. He had been announced first and seem to be going over some strategy with his manager and trainer. Not Gaines, who flexed for the camera as soon as he made it to the ring. He blew off the fist pump between fighters and immediately went on the offensive. This would be quick and easy, and indeed it was.................

For John Harvey. He knocked Gaines down once, and then a second time in the third round which finished the fight. Where Josh goes from here is anyone's guess, but it can't get any worse.

Samantha's Blog

Even on two scorecards, with another thinking that I lost. It's a draw, and a rematch gets scheduled right away. It will be tough for both of us, but I think I will have the advantage in the second fight. I didn't start well against Billy, but towards the end I really felt that I had him. He seemed a little annoyed by the fact that I was still hanging in there with him, and I nearly got a knockout in the 10th round. Armed with this knowledge, I feel good about getting back in the ring with him. I am sure he will look to put an end to the fight early, but I think that my conditioning will do the trick. Having two bouts back to back like this, especially when you just went ten rounds is a quite a task put before both of us, but we both are in the same situation so we will both deal with it and move on.I hope that I inspired some young ladies out there across the world to know that they can win a battle of strength against a man. So, I might not have won, but I held him even for half an hour and I think that says a lot. It will be a good fight, but I really think that I will come out on top.

Mark and his coach watched the (admittedly short) video of Sanderson's last fight: Henry was taking notes in the meantime while mark watched impressed, but concentrated. After seeing the just three minutes fifth time, mark started to speak:

"This guy is fast. More a slugger than a boxer. A bull."

"Yes, he is really aggressive and has a lot of power in his punches. But his defense isn't that good. You should hit him hard with counter punches. He doesn't move much more than forward also. You have to be much more agile, like in the last fight. He mustn't trap you, ok?"

"Ok, boss. But I'm sure it won't be that easy."

"You really have to look after your cover. You have to be more clever. Make him sweat, be on the move. His endurance will end and then is your time." Henry Mayes stood up from the couch and walked around in the room. "Things like the last time shouldn't happen. Try to clinch less if you don't have to. How's your eye?"

"No problem anymore." The swelling had disappeared just one after and there were no other hurts.

"Good. You will need it to watch him. But you still need to do something in the ring. Be active. Last time you were back in points."

"Alright." Mark felt a bit like the little shoolboy, but he knew Henry was right. They knew each other some time now and Henry became something like the parental figure he never had to him, even if their lifestyle was completly different.

"Ok, Mark. Next on the plan is your daily fitness training and afterwards a little bit of sparring."

A TALK WITH “POWER”

Sibirsky- Josh Gaines was not impressive by any stretch of the imagination in first match, but he vows that he will improve for his next bout, which will be against Paris Chevre of Las Lisque. We have sent our newest reporter, 19-year old Shannon Spencer, to interview Gaines before this match.

JG: You’re hot.

SS: Uhmm, thanks. Joel (the cameraman) remember to count me down this time.

Joel: Sorry I made that mistake last time for your first interview with the lacrosse thing.

JG: The red light is on.

Joel: Oh yeah sorry you’re on the air now. Don’t talk to me when I am supposed to be counting you down.

SS: (sighs) Ok, sorry about that Newmanistan, we’ll eventually get this right. So I am here with Josh Gaines, who got his ass whooped in his first fight.

JG: You could phrase that a little more modestly, Shannon.

SS: Well you did. Do you realize how disappointing it was for us as Newmanistanians to get beaten by some guy from wherever the hell that place is.

JG: I know I let my fans down. I apologize for my terrible performance but I assure you that I have been able to get things worked out with my manager and trainer, and I will be better against the Lickey guy.

SS: Las Lisque.

JG: That’s right.

SS: What are you going to do differently against Chevre?

JG: Take it more seriously. I really regret my decision to go out clubbing until 5am on the night prior to my fight, I think I might cut that down to like 2am this time.

SS: Maybe you shouldn’t do that at all the night before the fight?

JG: Shannon, have you had the opportunity to taste some of these fine Sibirsky alcoholic beverages. This shit rocks!

SS: Uhm no. I am doing my job and like to do it while sober.

JG: I was sober.

SS: But probably hungover.

JG: No, not really.

SS: Anyway getting back on track.

Joel: Time’s up, sorry.

SS: You’re supposed to signal me that I have one minute left.

Joel: Uhh sorry.

SS: You have fucked this up twice now! And you did the last time too and you are making me look like an idiot!

Joel: Oh shut up bitch!

JG: Don’t you be calling her that! (Gaines gets up, walks towards Joel, and lands a jab right to his jaw, knocking him out).

SS: Looks like Power is now 1-1.

JG: Damn right!

"Welcome back to Alternative Sports Monthly, today our intrepid reporter Augusta Wellington will be going to the nation of Sibirsky in an attempt to see the islands' first attempt at international boxing! Marquis of Queensbury be damned, we're going to make this interesting."

Skip to an entirely over blown montage of water related sports, heavily interspersed with the hostess wearing bikinis and doing...something vaguely sports related on a beach. It lasts about 45 seconds too long.

"Well we're here with Eduardo "Hammerhead" Montalba, Arrozan heavyweight. So, what did you think about your first match against John Yankovic?"

Eduardo: "Well I..."

Augusta: "Let's go to the tape!"

An completely embarrasing montage of the fight follows. It's 5 minutes of Montalba getting rocked in the forst round. Montalba getting rocked in the second. Montalba getting rocked in the third, fourth and seventh. Montalba getting knocked over in the fifth. It's a veritable punch frenzy, it's a miracle that Hammerhead is still standing at the end of the match."

Eduardo: Well fortitude is my strong point, but I think I learned a lot about how to not get beat up like that, and on how to fi...

Augusta: "Ok, great! Your next opponent Kruschev took an epic beating from DJ Parakkus. Can you do the same?"

Eduardo: "Well I..."

He's cut off as the tape shows all seven of the brutal knockouts by Parakkus.

Augusta: "Well that's all the time we have today, next segment, Sibirskan mud wrestling! Let's see if someone gets messy."

Eduardo: "Well that was a horrid interview"

Cameraman: "She's boning the network exec." shrugs.

One punch KO. The only question is, why did it take 44 seconds?

SANDERSON WINS AND MOVES ON

Chris Sanderson took care of Arturo Whitney of Delaclava, in another example of our domination of Delaclava in sports. We don’t know if we’re going to create a chant over it yet, but they seem to can’t get away from us and generally lose to us, and the results aren’t always close. Inside the boxing ring was the latest example. Fortunately for Delaclava fans, they only had to witness it for three minutes. Sanderson embarrassed Whitney in his debut, scoring a first round knockout. Chris had knocked Whitney down just 100 seconds into the match with a wicked uppercut. Whitney, either bravely or stupidly, got up after eight, only to have his backside put down on the canvas 20 seconds later. Again, Whitney got up for more punishment, and Sanderson was sure to deliver it. He knew Whitney was in serious trouble and wanted to put the fight away. With one second left in the round, he knocked him down again and this time Whitney could not get up and there was no saved by the bell rule here either.

Sanderson moves on now to the next round of this double elimination event and meets Mark “Ironhammer” Cook of North Avayu. This man looks as though he might be able to put up a fight, unlike Whitney (who actually won his loser’s bracket match making us wonder just how bad Vitaly Kruschev is). Cook scored a knockout in his fight as well, but needed more then three minutes to do so, going the full 10 rounds against Paris Chevre. It was a key knockout of Paris, because Ironhammer was losing the fight according to most observers heading into the final round.

Sanderson was asked about the upcoming fight, “I’m looking forward to a fight. That first guy was really no contest, I don’t know what his deal was but Ironhammer knows what he’s doing. He knew he was down in his first match and came back well in the last round to get a knockout. I will need to be ready for that. We have some contrasting styles, but I think it will be a good fight. I expect to fight more then one round.”

The Freiburg Herald

The Ironhammer hits again!

Mark "Ironhammer" Cook has won his second international fight against the Secristan Chris Sanderson. The audience was in good mood for yesterdays fight night in Sibirsky and was rewarded with a great fight.
The action started directly with the bell ring of the first round. Sanderson started as in his last, short fight against Arturo Whitney, relentlessly moving forward. But Cook defended well and was able to to land some nice hits while showing great foot work. Still, Sanderson brought through some really hard hooks, jabs and crosses which were definitly painful to Cook. Then, after a totally missed uppercut from Sanderson, he was able to counter with a great combination, knocking his opponent down the first time. Even though Sanderson could get up on his feet again. Cook has shown once more that he is able to take advance of the situation and enemy failures.
The second round started similar, both opponents circling each other. But this time, a slight advantage was with Sanderson, and stayed for the whole round. Cook had to take one hit after another and couldn't do much himself.
Shortly after the bell sounded the third round, Cook set a terrifying shot to Sanderson's body, forcing him the air out of the lungs. Both opponents threw punches at each other, but Sandreson was hurt and an easy target for Cook's devastating punches, especialy to the body. One combiantion to the head later, Sanderson was lying on the floor, but came up once again. Sanderson really showed great spirit. Just half a minute later everything repeated. But Sanderson still didn't give in. The fight continued with a tarnished Sanderson and Cook could smell the win, didn't stop throwing punch after punch. Sanderson was barely able to defend himself anymore and the referee stopped the fight. Cook won through TKO in the third round. Even if it was short, it was still a good and suspense fight.
Directly after the declaration of the winner, a reporter spoke with the still exhausted Mark Cook. He thanked his fans and also said: "It was a great fight. Chris really was a good opponent. He put up a great fight against me and could have won. You know the word: some days you win, some days you loose. Maybe I was just a little bit better prepared, maybe I had a bit more luck. It's not important. I have won, that's what counts." Asked about what he would do in the pause of three days, he said that he would use one day to meet friends and have some fun, while he would train the other two days and prepare for the next fight.

(OOC: I'm away for a week and won't be able to post for the next few fights. Good luck and fun to everyone!)
