Bienvenue à Cotdelapoms!

Welcome to the 15th World Cup of Hockey, the first "major" tournament to be held in Cotdelapoms, and what an entry. Cotdelapoms is a hockey mad nation, and the fans will be out in full force. Cotdelapomais hockey fans are not dissimilar from football fans, putting together songs and elaborate tifosi displays.

This tournament will use xkoranate 0.3.2 and the RP cutoff will be at around 3:00 pm EDT.

1. Cotdelapoms is on the western-most tip of the Goose Coast of Rushmore. It's nearest neighbours are Mytannion, Swartaz, Sirain, PBI and Whirl Islands. It has a generally very cool climate, with average temps of about 17ºC in summer, and -2ºC in winter. A lot falls from the sky in Cotdelapoms, the winters are very snowy and the spring is very rainy. Our weather is consistently voted to be among the worst in Rushmore, as whilst it rarely gets too cold, the winter takes up about 6 months of the year. Despite this, the people are still pretty upbeat and chipper, no matter how grey it gets, and it can get grey.

2. Cotdelapoms has a long, turbulent political history, but Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Dandenault, after surviving two difficult elections, is now perhaps the most popular PM in history. He's completely sold out the old school socialism that the people loved, and Cotdelapoms now has a thriving economy that is among the largest in Rushmore. People really don't get involved in politics in Cotdelapoms, which has allowed the rise in capitalism. The third rail of Cotdelapomais politics are arts programmes and education, which have remained untouched, although the private sector has seemingly taken over everything else now.

3. Violent crime in Cotdelapoms is very low, the people are generally good hearted and polite- but petty crime is through the roof. You won't be assaulted or mugged or killed in Cotdelapoms- but you'll almost certainly encounter some vandals, drunks, prostitutes and you will almost certainly be offered drugs on the street.

4. Cotdelapomais people are among the world's most cultured, healthy, peace loving and likely to be vegetarian, but don't call them hippies. They really don't like that.

5. Football is still the second most popular sport in Cotdelapoms to ice hockey, but Cotdelapoms is far more successful internationally in football due to the FFC being far less conservative than the national ice hockey council. This will hopefully change with World Cup 15, which Hockey Cotdelapoms has devoted a lot of time and energy towards running. They hope this will establish Cotdelapoms as a global hockey power.

6. The primary language and culture of the nation is French, but further south there are more English and native people. The two cultures get along very well in day to day life, but have a history of political squabbling, although that has improved. The other ethnicities that are common in Cotdelapoms are Mytanar, Swartazian and Ocaterran.

7. Cotdelapomais food is largely vegetarian (or pescetarian closer to the water) and is built mostly around herbs and spices and fresh produce and bread. The most popular restaurant is the chain french fry restaurant Fritidien!, and the food bears a lot of resemblance to RL French, Italian and Spanish food. The national dishes are poutine Cotdelapomais, which involves french fries covered in a creamy butternut squash and grilled gruyere and apple sandwiches. Of course, Cotdelapoms is most famous for its' abundant apple trees and being the nation that grows the most different types of apples of anywhere in the planet. From your common Pink Lady to the local flavours of the Morrissette or Soleil-Noir.

Centre Télépom Mobilité seats over 24000 and is home to the Montréal Cotdelapomais. It is an insanely loud, rocking building that will be insane for Cotdelapoms games. The national anthem will be sung proudly and tickets will scalp for insane amounts of money.

Alex Rideu Auditorium seats 17000 and is in the outskirts of the city. It lacks some of the creature comforts of the Centre Télépom Mobilité, but is a little less corporate and soulless. It is the home of the Montréal Royals.

Montréal is our nation's biggest city and the capital for modern art and music, with countless popular and influential artists and bands emerging from the city. The city is riddled with impressive graffiti and skews heavily younger in age demographically. When visiting you should take in a band at Le Metropolitain or Club Sauce, and definitely head over to the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal- or just head outside and check out some of the city's world famous street art murals. Montréal is younger and skews more French, and is the nation's capital of music and art. Other notable attractions include Parc LeBlanc, a very large park in the middle of the city with long hiking trails and a biodome inside of it with multiple ecosystems, and rue Bruneau, a long street with countless amazing restaurants, music venues, fashionable boutiques and strip clubs.

Centre Valaire seats 22500 and hosted the first World Junior Championships. It is an arena filled with any sort of modern amenity you could hope for. It is home to Île-d'Elisabeth Osprey. The city of Île d'Elisabeth is on an island in the Sea of Victory. It is the home of many of Cotdelapoms' most famous authors and largest publishing houses. It is, as a result, considered one of the most literary cities in the world, although this reputation is slightly trumped up. Île d'Elisabeth is also very animal friendly, home to many zoos and rescue shelters. It gets some of the most severe weather in the country, so get ready for intense winds! When the city hosted the World Junior Hockey Championships, they improved infrastructure and built more hotels, so they are well suited to host this event.

Digitek Centre seats 16800 and is a newer building with an obnoxious goal horn. There is also a large anchor that gets lowered from the rafters after each Côte-Est Mariners goal, which will be on display but presumably not used during the World Cup. Côte-Est is across the sea from Île-d'Elisabeth and is a slightly less artsy version of Île-d'Elisabeth. Côte-Est is one of the most bike friendly cities in Cotdelapoms.

Aréna Loto-Marianne has lots of modern amenities, but lacks charm. It seats 22000 and is home to the Outremont Owls. It is undergoing a redecorating of sorts, as the Owls have changed their colour scheme from purple to sky blue. Outremont is the film capital of Cotdelapoms and home of the Outremont International Film Festival, the ritziest event in Rushmore. Outremont is the "second city of Cotdelapomais culture", which is a peculiar title for a city to saddle to itself.

Centre Marianne Hydroéléctrique, seats 16500 and is the least exciting arena being used. It is home to the Xavier Ours Polaires and is quiet and bland, much like Xavier itself. This arena is famous for its kid friendliness, which likely will not be on display during the World Cup. Xavier is very suburban.

The 18500 seat Toussaint Forum is the best arena to drink in in perhaps the entire world, the selections are plentiful and fresh and cheap- the price of a normal Cotdelapomais pub pint rather than pricey arena beer. It is home to the Chambly Brasseurs, who have some of the most excitable fans in the world. Chambly is the brewery town to end all brewery towns, with all of our greatest brewers located in that general vicinity- from mass-market (but still quite tasty) Toussaint, to the world reknowned abbeys of Picard.

Colisée CPMC seats 17500, and is home to the Charlevoix Montagnards. For a long time this was a loud old barn that was falling apart, but Hockey Cotdelapoms has finally put in some money to renovate the arena for the World Cup. It is now a loud old barn that won't fall apart until after the tournament. Charlevoix is a beautiful mountainous city that has our best skiing and snowboarding mountains.

The 18000 seat GCCU Centre is old but gets renovated often because the city does not want to build a new arena. It is home to the Worcester Snowbirds, and is the best place to get into a tussle with opposing fans in the whole CHL. Worcester is a medium sized city that has a bad reputation but is vibrant and bustling if you know where to look.

The 17150 seat Barsteeg Arena is home to the Hamilton Tigers and features lots of cushy amenities and some amazing sightlines. Hamilton is a blue collar city that loves its' sports teams.

Oak Air Centre seats 21800 and has some prohibitively expensive tickets during the CHL season. It is a building built during the modern era of nouveau riche, and features lots of corporate boxes and executive suites. Don't let that fool you though, there should be just as much passion as there would be at an Albionpool Oak Leafs game. Albionpool is our nation's capital, despite being a predominantly Anglophone city in a heavily Francophone nation. It is also the primary capital of business, which is not something Cotdelapomais from outside of Albionpool are particularly trusting of. It is not the most culturally developed city in the country, instead focusing more on "important" things like business, government and much of Cotdelapoms' scientific development. Albionpool is a very tall city with many large buildings that are home to most of Cotdelapoms' major companies. Demographics skew older and more English speaking. Notable attractions include the nation's largest ferris wheel in the centre of Harris Park and Windsor Square, the nation's largest open air market.

Home of the Kingston Musketeers, the 17100 seat Phoenix Arena can be a very different experience depending on where in the arena you are. The cheap seats are filled with aggressive lunatics and are no place for away fans, but down below in the pricier spots you can meet some of the most knowledgeable hockey fans in the whole country. During the World Cup, it is likely the lunatics will stay away, but who knows? Kingston is a worn out old industrial city that, for whatever reason, turns out a lot of Cotdelapoms' best writers.

The final (and third place game, should it involve Cotdelapoms) will take place at the brand new Stade de Cotdelapoms, our new national football stadium. The Stade de Cotdelapoms' holds 80,000 people and is an all-seater stadium, but it will feature special temporary seating on the pitch to give fans a better view. The weather should be perfect hockey weather, cold but hopefully not snowing. We expect the final will shatter the NS multiverse record for attendance of an ice hockey game.

If you are staying in Albionpool, head over by taking the Metro to the Commonwealth stop. It will be the very large football arena everyone will be walking towards.

Here is a map:

There's a breathless hush in the Close to-night
Ten to make and the match to win
A bumping pitch and a blinding light,
An hour to play, and the last man in.
And it's not for the sake of a ribboned coat.
Or the selfish hope of a season's fame,
But his captain's hand on his shoulder smote
"Play up! Play up! And play the game!"

ROCKETS LOOK TO TAKE POSITIVE STEP

Pocono City- The roster for the Newmanistanian entry in the 15th World Cup of Hockey has been announced, and pretty soon our players will be heading to Cotdelapoms to represent the Empire. While we have always taken pride in this great sport at home, the results haven’t really shown it for this tournament. Over and over, the Rockets have been riddled with disappointment, so much so that if you compared it to World Cup (Soccer) qualifying, that sport might actually look good. However, of late the Rockets have at least been making some strides, and they are coming off a playoff appearance and first round victory before the eventually bowed out. Because of that, Robert Ward returns as the head coach and most of the team returns for another attempt.

What can we expect from this team this year, fairly? While we would all love to see them lift the Cup over their heads, that is probably not going to happen. “I would like them to make the quarterfinals, minimum,” said analyst Kyle Collins, “The have to go one more step then they did last time. Put a couple good runs together, and the rank can climb. We want to believe that we have the ability to be great in this tournament, but we still have yet to show it.” Head coach Ward told us that he would not settle for anything less then a championship, but let’s face it, that’s coach-speak. Fairly, the minimum expectation of making the quarterfinal is what seems best.

As you are probably aware of by now, the tournament is in the nation of Cotdelapoms, which is part of the region of Rushmore. It is their largest hosting assignment so far, though they have showed their passion for hockey by hosting a couple junior tournaments, which seemed to go pretty well. Therefore, I expect to see a highly enthusiastic reaction to the tournament by their people, and it might make it hard for non-locals to even get tickets, but we’re sure you can find a way. There are ten teams in each of six groups, and there will be a single round robin between the teams. Newmanistan is assigned to Group C and the most notable opponents are Delaclava and Civil Citizenry, though there are some other potentially strong nations in this group. We’ll get to see the nation of Cheergirls, and that should probably be a good thing, at least for the men for in attendance. The Rockets will play there games at either Árena Loto-Marianne in Outremont or Centre Marianne Hydroéléctrique in Xavier. A source familiar with these arenas says they are like night and day. Said the source, “Aréna Loto-Marianne is a state of the art facility. And Newmanistanians should absolutely love the fact that they are painting the place sky blue. Rockets fans will certainly help with that by waving the flag all over the place. This is a great building for the team to playing in. Then you have Centre Marianne Hydroéléctrique, which is a dump.” Of their nine games, Newmanistan will have five in Outremont and will make it look even more sky blue then they ever thought possible.

While hosting the 14th edition of the WCoH; Qazox flamed out in the quarterfinals (again), losing to eventual champions Kelssek. Most of the team does return in the hopes that the experience gained 2 years ago will propel the team back into championshop contention.

Sakurakuko, Mossulia and Mytannion appear to be the stiffest challengers to Qazox for the group title. But with the top 2 teams and 6 of the 8 3rd placed teams making the playoffs, Qazox should qualify out of this group.

Head Coach Guy Lemaire is under a lot of pressure to put together a good performance at home in World Cup of Hockey 15. The team doesn't look too dissimilar from the team that crashed out of World Cup 14, but finished in the top 8 of the Olympics in Ashton.

Image

FIRST LINE:
LW Rick Jones (Outremont Owls)
Smooth skating, high scoring, hard hitting winger, always a contender for the league's top scorer. Shoots first, asks questions later, passes never. He regularly leads the CHL in shots, as his shot selection is definitely not limited.
C Pierre Drouin (Outremont Owls)
The best two-way player in Cotdelapoms, Drouin scores highlight worthy goals, makes some of the most impressive passes in the league, is a phenomenal stick handler, and is also fairly defensively responsible. He gets hit often, and hard, so he sometimes is known for playing a little bit dirty but he also tends to get away with it at the league level as he is the biggest name and most marketable star. At the international level, he probably won't be protected by the referees, although he will certainly be protected by the crowd.
RW Guillaume Lajeunesse (Montréal Royals)
A true "power forward", pounds other teams and stands in front of the net to get tip-ins and redirects, a force to be reckoned with, and will protect Jones and Drouin. He is not the most fleet of foot, but he still finds the net. The Royals got him last season in a trade with the Rangers that was considered a fleecing by just about everyone.

SECOND LINE:
LW Adam Wrentham (PBI Rangers)
Will have to do the dirty work for his line, but that won't be a huge issue. He's a big guy with good hands who definitely plays a "pest" sort of game. Is not usually particularly willing to fight, which will drive opposition players crazy. He gets called out a lot and is not the most popular player in opposition locker rooms, but teammates love him- especially when he shows up and scores an important goal.
C Jean-André Vlemincx (Côte-Est Mariners)
An excellent passer of the puck with truly tremendous vision and pretty adequate stick handling skills. His speed is also a huge tool in his arsenal, as is his drive. He has earned a bit of a reputation for choking in big games, but put a dent in it by being one of the best players at the Olympics.
RW Luc Dionne (Montréal Royals)
Has deft hands and fleet feet, but is purely an offensive player. Will probably be the primary goal scorer on his line, but may get removed for someone a little bit tougher if the game gets chippy.

THIRD LINE:
LW Louis Periard (Portsmouth Mallards)
Periard is one of the Cotdelapomais hockey's bright young stars, commonly mentioned alongside Julien Champagne, Benoît Cohen and Jean-Luc Barr, all of whom he played for the junior team with. Periard was the least favoured of the lot, but has had the most successful pro career- partially because he filled out a lot before turning 19. Periard has a wicked slap shot that will likely help Periard and Champagne get rebound goals. This was a big tactic for the surprise team of the CHL last year, the Mallards.
C Luca Messina (Montréal Cotdelapomais)
A late bloomer, did not really become a star until he was on his third team at the age of 27, but was a huge part of les Citoyens' Dumas Cup campaign two seasons ago. He is quite small but a very smooth skater and is always in the right place at the right time. He does not tend to get too physical, but he is also surprisingly strong.
RW Julien Champagne (Montréal Cotdelapomais)
Champagne saw a lot of criticism from the notoriously tough Montréal media in the beginning of last season, but he shut them up when he went on an absolute tear in the playoffs before les Citoyens saw their untimely demise. He can definitely stickhandle, and Lemaire wants to keep him with Messina since they work well together for les Citoyens.

FOURTH LINE:
LW Roch Cormier (Lacs d'Été Otters)
A quiet workhorse, has started to earn a lot more respect around the league, and will be paired with Dupuis on the energy line. He is afraid to neither throw his weight around nor get into a race, although he'd rather throw his weight around.
C Claude Dupuis (Worcester Snowbirds)
A penalty killing specialist, Dupuis is the best face-off winner on the team, and is more of a defensively responsible centre. He is a pretty smooth skater and generally does a good job of avoiding penalties as well. He will be in the middle of the energy line.
RW Andrus Alexopopoulos (Rouen Caribou)
One of the league's hardest hitters and most intimidating players, the least likely to score of all the forwards but has surprisingly deft hands. Andrus will be out to make anyone who dares stickhandle through the middle pay, and will ensure nobody puts too much pressure on his linemates or anyone else.

DEFENCEMEN:
1. Alexandre Briére (Montréal Cotdelapomais)
2. Émile D'Aoust (Cap Nordique Drakkar)
Briére is a giant bruiser with a great slapshot who is at home in any circumstance- he is a good 5-on-5 defenceman, he is a power play quarterback and he is willing to block shots on the PK. D'Aoust is a little guy willing to move the puck and block shots, although not an amazing hitter.

3. Marco Trussina (Île d'Elisabeth Osprey)
4. Joseph Powell (Chambly Brewers)
Trussina is very tall and useful on the penalty kill, he has a long reputation for being a bit of a pylon, but that's not entirely fair- he still slows down oncoming attackers enough for his partner to come over and interfere, or to help out his goaltender. Powell is smoother and faster, and sometimes can go a whole game without being noticed- which can be a huge positive or a huge negative.

5. Thierry Johansson (Albionpool Oak Leafs)
6. Michel Gingras (Kingston Musketeers)
Thierry Johansson is an adept stick checker who doesn't make the big hits but is still a competent defender. Gingras is another power play specialist, has the league's hardest slap-shot and may be called upon intermittently.

GOALIES:
1. Pascal Sévigny (Montréal Cotdelapomais)
2. Maxime Deslaurier (Île-d'Elisabeth Osprey)
3. Johann Sauvé (Kingston Musketeers)
Pascal Sévigny is a spectacle to behold- a whirling dervish who makes some amazing highlight reel saves but occasionally lets in the beach ball. The nation lost confidence in Maxime Deslaurier during the last World Cup, so Sévigny became the goaltender during the Olympics. Deslaurier just won the Dumas Cup, though, so he is the hot hand- but in all likelihood Sévigny is the starter. Deslaurier is a very comfortable, very agile butterfly goalie who stays a little bit closer to the net than Sévigny. Sauvé is a good goaltender but is just a formality, he will not play.

POWER PLAY UNITS:
1- Jones-Drouin-Lajeunesse-Briére-Gingras
2- Periard-Messina-Dionne-Powell-D'Aoust

PENALTY KILL UNITS:
1- Dupuis-Cormier-Briére-Trussina
2- Drouin-Wrentham-Johansson-Powell

3 MAN PENALTY KILL
1- Dupuis-Briére-Trussina
2- Cormier-Johansson-Powell

RESERVES:
LW Rémy Tremblay (Saint-Urbain Citadelles)
All flash, no substance, but when he's on his game he can be a real goal threat- and the goals will almost certainly be dazzling. Puts up big numbers over a season, but the concern is that if he hits a cold snap he'll simply sulk. Could be called upon if goals are needed.
LW Jérôme Cyr (Worcester Snowbirds)
Extraordinarily quick and has great positioning. Not a natural scorer but his positioning leads to him getting a lot of good rebound goals. He sets up in the slot, or to the left and gets in tight spaces.
RW Benoît Cohen (Rouen Caribou)
Cohen is a big, young, stud winger who simply won't get much ice time because of the position he plays.
D Konstantin Koritz (Cap Nordique Drakkar)
Plays a similar game to Briére, but not quite as good.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Y
Godmod scoring events: Y
RP injuries to my players: Y, please let me determine severity.
Godmod injuries to my players: Y
Hand out penalties to my players: Y, not a particularly dirty team but not the cleanest either. Dupuis is known for his gentlemanly play, as is Luca Messina. Wrentham can get lots of penalties, but won't fight as he is most of a pest (think RL Max Lapierre, Sean Avery). Wrentham is not above embellishment either. Alexopopoulos is willing to fight if necessary.
Godmod other events: Y

MYTANAR ICE HOCKEY NATIONAL SIDE.

Starting Team.
#77 Bakunin - #14 Hajers - #6 Tujenhev
#3 Veterin - #32 Dugev
#1 Kyschenko

Key Player is bolded, Team Captain is underlined.

First Line.
LW #77, Marcin Bakunin, 21 (Worcester Snowbirds, Cotdelapoms, Rushmori CHL)
He's the real creator of goals in this side; he is the one that finds the way through a defence, picking the lock and setting-up for a team-mate to easily finish. He'll have to be tightly marked as he is as slippery as a buttered snake.

C #14, Boris Hajers, 23 (Thessia Pistons, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
Big, strong, bustling centre - he uses his strength to his advantage and charges his way through defences. He scored 27 goals for the Thessia Pistons in the last season in the Rushmori CHL and this was largely thanks to the fact he arrived in the right place at the right time and has excellent positioning.

RW #6, Pryzemyzr Tujenhev, 22 (Montréal Royals, Cotdelapoms, Rushmori CHL)
The goalscorer, his shooting is amazingly accurate and his strength and stick-handling are brilliant. He is the key-man in this side and if he plays well, the team plays well. He has real pace when going over the ice and is the most influential player in this side.

Second Line.
LW #7, Piotr Jenkov, 23 (Arsika Hammers, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
Quick and has excellent stick-handling, able to negotiate his way through defenders with ease. His shooting accuracy leaves something to be desired, but when he slaps one toward goal - you'd be a fool to get in front of it, it hurts. Scored 25 for the Hammers as they won the Mytanar-Sargossan Division regular season championship.

C #2, Aksel Gundersen, 19 (Unattached)
He may not have a team in a domestic league somewhere, but this kid is the future of Mytanar Ice Hockey. He may be a bit undersized for a Centre (5'8"), but his speed and anticipation make up for it, he knows exactly where the puck is going before it gets there. He has also been known to go from behind his own net to the other end of the rink to score; so he has very advanced stick-handling too. He'll be hoping to catch the attention of foreign teams in this tournament for sure.

RW #44, Vitaliy Yertolenko, 22 (Ebor Snowstorm, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
A very, very creative player. He knows how to split a defence wide open with a pass and can ghost past defenders as if they weren't there. If he gets the puck, expect something big. He was the leader in assists for Mytanar sides in the Rushmori CHL with 37, meaning he took part in 85% of his team's goals over the season.

Third Line.
LW #23, Kamal Tykowski, 23 (Thessia Pistons, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
He plays for his home-town club and is extremely proud of that. He is good at making a quick impact as he speeds past defenders and has accurate and powerful shooting. He could be a huge asset to this team and is very influential. He scored 20 for the Pistons in the last CHL season.

C #25, Declan Denham, 25 (Arsika Hammers, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
Strong, very, very strong. He keeps the ball well and then brings others into play whilst holding off one or two defenders - meaning he can be used well to take defenders away from his team-mates, who he then brings into play. He has excellent passing and very accurate shooting.

RW #10, Ilya Saiyfulemindirov, 20 (Unattached)
He was the hopes of Mytanar hockey, but with the emergence of Bakunin and Tujenhev - the hype around him died down. He is still a great player though, of good stature and strength. He is very graceful and floats around the ice, his stick-handling is exceptional although his shooting is slightly below-par. He is good at assisting and that is his main job within this team, he'll be hoping to catch the eye of some big teams during this tournament.

Fourth Line.
LW #13, Yurij Galasek, 24 (Ebor Snowstorm, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
He's quick, no doubting that - he possibly lacks the strength needed for a player on this huge stage. His partnership with Vitaliy Yertolenko in the CHL season has led many pundits to question why they aren't on the same line, Yertolenko was the provider for all of Galasek's goals in the season, all 25 of them. He has very accurate shooting.

C #99, Jaroslaw Marha, 19 (Unattached)
Another youngster without a team who we have high hopes for. Hopefully he'll team up with Aksel Gundersen on the same line in the future as they work brilliantly together - as shown in the second WJHC. He's not renowned for his speed, but he does have surprising acceleration and no one thinks that he has as good stick-handling as he does, but his shooting is what he is best known for; accurate and powerful - he should get a move somewhere through a good performance in this tournament.

RW #39, Hazir Turinski, 18 (Unattached)
Is the one to look to for when the team is in need of pace and quick creativity, he is a player who is built in the Pryzemyzr Tujenhev mould but isn't as inspirational as him and nowhere near as skilful - he is quick, has average stick-handling, but gets away from defenders and has good shooting.

Defencemen.
LD #3, Wojtek Veterin, 24 (Montréal Royals, Cotdelapoms, Rushmori CHL)
The big man at the back. Hard-hitting, tough-tackling defender. He uses his strength to excellent use and can start plays right from the back with his passing being very accurate. He does get a few too many penalties called on him, but he has the composure to cope on the bigger stage and so shouldn't concede too many.
RD #32, Alixysandr Dugev, 23 (Arsika Hammers, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
The man who was at the helm of the tightest Mytanar defence in the Rushmori CHL last season. He is slightly undersized but is willing to put his body on the line to block shots and can move the puck well; as he has decent stick-handling skills too. He hits well, even though he isn't the tallest, but tries to make an impression all the same.

LD #36, Wladimir Sevac, 22 (Thessia Pistons, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
Quick, although not the strongest and so could be a player to exploit. He glides across the ice and is normally the man who sets up the way we play when on the powerplay, the one who sits back and organising everything. Very accurate passer.
RD #49, Iivari Hard, 19 (Unattached)
He is brilliant at intercepting passes, and is very strong. When he hits you, you think it might be something twenty times as big. He is one of the tallest defenders on the team and he makes sure people know it. He'll be looking to catch the attention of foreign teams as he is another youngster who is currently unattached to any team.

LD #4, Wesley Tuuijkers, 24 (Unattached)
An absolute behemoth at 6'7" and he uses his height and strength to their absolute best possible usage - slamming into people. He blocks attackers off, bullies them, does whatever it takes to get them off the puck - his stick-handling is a bit suspect, but he doesn't have too use it too much thankfully. Hoping to catch the attention of foreign teams.
RD #16, Sanzhis Olayzhinsh, 19 (Ebor Snowstorm, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
He has to be one of the most elegant defenders there is, his tackling doesn't touch the man, he just steals the puck without the player knowing anything about it. His strength is doubted highly because of this, and if threatened with a strong forward - he could be in trouble.

Goaltenders.
#1, Vladimir Kyschenko, 23 (Ebor Snowstorm, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
When he played for the Juniors, he was ridiculed because of his height. But his confident displays, amazing agility and willingness to go out after shooters were impressive and proved the doubters wrong as he helped lead the Mytanar Juniors to the WJHC Championship.
#8, Yerjan Litala, 22 (Arsika Hammers, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
A goalie who has been known to make amazing, point-blank saves and the one who saved the penalty-shot in the shoot-out, in the first WJHC final which won it for our Juniors - an impressive goalie.
#15, Christian Daecher, 19 (Thessia Pistons, Mytannion, Rushmori CHL)
Probably won't even get a look-in, but he chases shooters away from goal fairly often and is known to take risks - which is sometimes his downfall.

Power Play Units:
1 - Bakunin, Hajers, Tujenhev; Veterin, Sevac.
2 - Jenkov, Gundersen, Turinski; Olayzhinsh, Dugev.

Penalty Kill Units:
1 - Tujenhev, Yertolenko; Veterin, Dugev.
2 - Bakunin, Tykowski; Hard, Tuuijkers.

3-Man Penalty Kill:
1 - Tujenhev; Veterin, Dugev.
2 - Jenkov; Hard, Olayzhinsh.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Hockey is a very popular sport in a very sport centric Greater Cotswalds battling for viewership with football and motorsport. The Waaldish Hockey Board has kept the team similar to that which was brought to the last World Cup of Hockey appearance Greater Cotswalds made, hoping that some more experience will have done well for the squad. Captaining the squad is Markko Hall, possibly the most popular player in Greater Cotswalds and a dominant force in the success of the Gaal Jets.

Greater Cotswalds has close ties to Cotdelapoms, included a one season attempt at a united hockey league, the Gaal Jets taking the sole championship. Additionally leading Waaldish beer company Barsteeg is the most popular beer and Cotdelapoms and will be sponsoring many events for the Waaldish contingent who will be coming out to cheer the Arctic Foxes on. As a result, there will no doubt be a massive showing for the opening game of the WCoH: Cotdelapoms vs. Greater Cotswalds.

This will also make for the first sports competition to include the Lesser Cotswalds, their Socialist neighbor to the west that separated after a brief but devastating civil war. It is doubtful they will play each other in this competition due to the groupings and likelihood (or lack there of) of Lesser Cotswalds getting out of the group stage.

As their application to join the 14th World Cup of Hockey was delivered just minutes late, Cabric was forced to sit on the sidelines an await for the 15th edition to participate. The extra 6 months off has allowed the hockey team to better prepare for the vigors of the WCoH tourney.

Schedule:
Havansk
Virabia
Taeshan
Carasatoga
Wolfmanne
Plutoni
Polar Islandstates
Darmen
North Chicanan

The schedule is rather tough, with Plutoni being the odds on favorite to emerge from Group F atop. North Chicanan, Virabia and Taeshan look to be the next three best teams, and after that a crapshoot for 5th best. With a bit of luck, the Cabric Caribou could conquer in Cotdelapoms.

Lesser Cotswalds sets out for Glory!
Image
(Reprinted from National Paper VolksZeitung)

For the first time since our great struggle and establishment as the nation of the Waaldish people the DRLC is sending participating in an international sporting event. The travel will bring us to Cotdelapoms, an ally to Greater Cotswalds however they are being gracious to our presence so we will not let that minor detail hold that against them.

Unlike other competitors who have national leagues who spend millions of currency to pay their players instead of devoting it to the people, the DRLC is comprised of the best amateur players from the leading hockey clubs. General Secretary Wilfred Jongste praised the team upon their departure from Kallistaad, "We expect great things from this team, the eyes of our nation will stare upon them with great anticipation." Coach Wietse Litjens expressed his gratitude and they boarded the flight to Worcester.

The roster for the effort is as follows:

Mossulia are going into the next WCoH campaign on a pretty low note. The team from the last cup failed in the play-ins to Newmanistan and now they find themselves in Cotdelapoms. This nation is not only cold, but we were bidding for this cup. The Mossulian public sat in hope, pefched on their sofa with a beer while the results came in. They had lost. Not a good start. Anyway we are going into a group with 9 other teams, these include Mytannion and Qazox. Lets just hope lady luck won't spite us again.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Y
Godmod scoring events: Y (Contact me first)
RP injuries to my players: Y (Nothing career ending)
Godmod injuries to my players: N
Hand out penalties to my players: Y
Godmod other events: Y (Contact me first)

The Ursine Northlands
(‘The Devils-on-Ice’)

All of the staff and players are actual Ursines (i.e. anthropomorpic, bipedal Bears). They're all male, unlike the country's footballers, and all of those who've arrived for this competition so far come from one or another of the three teams that ended last season highest in the League.
I haven't yet decided where this fits into the Bears continuity, compared to either the 'Olympics' sequence or the [Football] 'World Cup' one...

Coach: Jerrim o Midnight _ Clan = Clouded Sun [Free Sept]; former coach of NorthPort Dynamos, experience = 8 years as player & 6 as coach; age = 31, right-pawed, fur = dark blond; has studied the ways of Human teams, as well as the Ursine ones back home.
Assistant: Barhkhon o Thuleann _ Clan Thuleann; coach of the NorthPort Blizzards, experience = 10 years as player & 6 as coach; age = 32, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown, favours attack above all else.
Assistant: o SeaBear _ Clan Seabear; newly appointed as coach (and formerly Assistant coach) of the NorthPort Dynamos, experience = 8 years as player & 7 as coach, favours a more balanced approach.

Roster
Goaltenders

Urram ‘Drunken Moose’ SalmonCatcher _ Clan SeaBear; home team = NorthPort Dynamos, experience = 6 years; age = 27, left-pawed, fur = medium brown.
Harro Sarrgarrth’s-son _ Clan Thuleann; home team = NorthPort Blizzards, experience = 5 years; age = 23, left-pawed, fur = light brown.

DefenseBears
(1st pair)
L: Marron o SeaBear _ Clan SeaBear; home team = NorthPort Dynamos, experience = 5 years; age = 22, left-pawed, fur = medium brown; twin of Barron.
R: Barron o SeaBear _ Clan SeaBear; home team = NorthPort Dynamos, experience = 6 years; age = 22, right-pawed, fur = medium brown, twin of Marron.
(2nd pair)
L: Hallarkh o Thrimt-Thuleann _ Clan Thuleann; home team = NorthPort Blizzards, experience = 5 years; age = 21, left-pawed, fur = white (‘Polar’).
R: Eiggarh Eiggarh’s-son _ Clan Thuleann; home team = NorthPort Blizzards, experience = 7 years; age = 24, left-pawed, fur = light brown.
(3rd pair)
L: Norrin o Borr-Jherran_ Clan Urrset (Northern); home team = Green Valley Giants, experience = 4 years; age = 21, left-pawed, fur = reddish-brown.
R: Dhrarm Wolf-Slayer _ Clan Five-Lakes; home team = Green Valley Giants, experience = 3 years; age =18, right-pawed, fur = ‘grizzly’ brown & quite long.

Attackers
(1st line)
LW: Marrlo o SeaBear _ Clan SeaBear; home team = NorthPort Dynamos, experience = 5 years; age = 22, left-pawed, fur = medium brown.
C: Marrlo SummerLight _ Sun Clan; home team = NorthPort Dynamos, experience = 6 years; age = 23, left-pawed, fur = pale blond.
RW: Gwinn o Ark-Royal _ Clan Barrannann; home team = NorthPort Dynamos, experience = 6 years; age = 22, right-pawed, fur = light brown; relatively light (& more anthropomorphic) build.
(2nd line)
LW: Gordfred o AmmFahr _ Clan Thuleann; home team = NorthPort Blizzards, experience = 4 years; age = 20, left-pawed, fur = dark brown.
C: Osbaron Ortho’s-Son o Thuleann _ Clan Thuleann; home team = NorthPort Blizzards, experience = 5 years; age = 20, left-pawed, fur = white (‘Polar’).
RW: Skarrallagh o Thuleann _ Clan Thuleann; home team = NorthPort Blizzards, experience = 6 years; age = 21, right-pawed, fur = white (‘Polar’).
(3rd line)

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Y
Godmod scoring events: Y, if in an amusing way
RP injuries to my players: Y, but not too many and not ones that would require missing more than one game as a result… Not that most [if not all] of your players should be capable of harming them worse than that without using actual weapons (and not just hockey sticks), anyway...
Godmod injuries to my players: N
Hand out penalties to my players: Y
Godmod other events: Y, if they’re funny

Kit: striped vertically, white-&-black.

NOTES

Ursines may tend to be a bit less agile & slower to accelerate than humans on average, but this team's members were carefully selected so the gap between them & their opponents in this respect should be narrower than some people might expect. However their typical size & strength mean that it will probably take a very brave human (or a very stupid one…) to get right in their way, which should balance that factor pretty well. They're physically robust, of course, which means that they're much less likely than humans to suffer injuries in falls or collisions. Even the coldest of cold weather should pose no problem to them.

And, as has now been seen during various tournaments, some of our fans like to take drums — and possibly cow-horns, or other "musical instruments", too — along to the games...

This is the northern section of Bears Armed, and enjoys a high level of autonomy.
