The WBC Council reminds first time participating nations that we only need your desire to sign-up. This is not the place for rosters.

Quintessence of Dust signs up - but provisionally.

I'm honestly not that enthused about either of the bids. Both scorinators are fine, and both hosts have more than demonstrated their capacity to run a baseball tournament. But - and I say this not to cause offence, but just to explain what it is that riles me so - Newmanistan's bragging about being "the best" has gone beyond a cute IC flourish that adds colour to NS baseball, to being so completely insufferable it makes me discinlined to read his posts (which is a shame, as he's otherwise a good enough RPer that I'm probably missing out); Delaclava tends to offer little in the way of IC background when he hosts, making it that bit harder to come up with RP storylines: let's face it, the growth of the WBC is partly attributable to nations that sign up and then don't RP at all, and if you're stuck in a group with mostly them, having something from the host to riff off is that much more helpful.

Plus, I dunno. I always really enjoyed RPing the WBC, but a number of things recently soured my enthusiasm. I miss Yaf, which is no one's fault; most of my RPs tended to be roundly ignored, which is probably my own fault; I didn't enjoy at all my last hosting experience, which is definitely my own fault. But also, I was very disappointed in the Lycrabon hosted WBC, and more particularly, the failure of the WBC Council to chase up what were clearly statements on his behalf that he had used the incorrect scorination method. Instead, a lengthy constitutional convention on relatively minor wording issues in the Charter was held, which served largely to stroke the ego of its convenor. I had no appetite whatsoever for WBC18, and therefore - as the bishop secular public official said to the actress - I might pull out.

I'm sorry that you feel this way and the competition is a better one with you in it as opposed to not being in it. Understand though that in all sports I have the Newmanistan media be arrogant, and our results in the WBC allow this to be a competition where we gloat more then others. Not quite sure how this relates to the hosting bid and what would keep you out of it, but I respect your decision. A lot of what I am doing now is busting on Tarrentum with our experience and they having done nothing, knowing how much pride he has in the WBC and knowing eventually he will be great in the WBC as well. Whether I or Delaclava (or a person yet to submit a bid) hosts this tournament, your not being there is a loss. I can understand to "missing Yaf". A lot of my World Cup RP's were centered around the rivalry with Dancougar and when he left, it was a large demotivator for that tournament

If it had to do with the way my bid was presented, it was my intention to have us looked at as Yankee Stadium bidding to host the All-Star game.

Just throwing this out there.. but we might want to:

a: move up the host bid cutoff a few days (Like June 10th or so). OR
b: put a "cap" on the signups (currently 53, 50 with elimination of puppets and 48 with elimination of puppets/conditionals).

Odds are we're not going to get many more credible host bids and personally, we don't need another five to ten more sign-up/dissapear cases.

Do you hear the people sing?
Lost in the valley of the night
It is the music of a people who are climbing to the light
For the wretched of the earth
There is a flame that never dies
Even the darkest nights will end and the sun will rise

They will live again in freedom in the garden of the lord
They will walk behind the ploughshare
They will put away the sword
The chain will be broken and all men will have their reward!

If we do end with 48, how would we set up groups? 8 groups of 6 with the top 4 moving on? That would make out to be 32 teams.

Writing as a member of the Council, I don't think it's a good idea to end the solicitation of host bids early. It sets too much of a negative precedent and could result in some ethical concerns for future Classics.

As far as capping is concerned, creating an artificial cap is not desirable. Yes, you run the risk of 10 one-and-donners who only post saying they're signing up and then disappear. But then you could also miss on the opportunity to foster a newcomer who becomes either the next great sports RPer or at the very worst, a solid contributor to the NS Sports community.

If I'd stayed with an artificial cap for one of my tournaments, Churchma would not have been allowed to participate. After he participated in that tournament, he became a well known member of this community. I'd rather take the risk for the reward of finding another potential solid contributor.

I agree with Sarzonia. The WBC needs to be a welcoming tournament and since we are not at the World Cup signup level, I don't have any desire to limit the number of teams. There are several workable numbers in the vicinity of where we are now for either Delaclava or myself (or a yet to have bid 3rd person): 54, 56, 60, and 64 are all workable. You can get a 63 to work; a 66 and 70 and certainly a 72. Also as a bidder myself it would not in any way be appropriate for me to advance the deadline for host bids.

Jimmer: The deadline for host bids is the 13th, signups will still be open.

Others reading this, be advised you can still freely sign up.

As education is the country's number one priority, we have a problem in that most of our premier young male athletes are being obliged to attend extra study sessions to catch up with the outstanding (academic! ) scores achieved by our female students.

So sending our best team will not be possible. We could though send an all-girls team, maybe? The star pitcher is a brilliant knuckleballer, and she already plays in a very competent amateur team.

Given that World Baseball Classic 18 was the first Classic since World Baseball Classic 13 that was NOT won by an all-female team, they would certainly fit right in. ;)
