World Baseball Classic 19 Signup Thread (CLOSED!!!)

Postby Newmanistan » Sat May 28, 2011 5:41 am

WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 19

Well, it’s almost June 1st.... but probably some logic in putting this up over a holiday weekend.

WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 19 is ready to be played!

This is the premier baseball competition in NationStates and has had quite an amazing history. In the last Classic, Sarzonia won their first ever title, knocking off Tarrentum in a best-of-five. A Classic prior, Newmanistan rallied from a 3-games-to-none deficit in the championship series to beat Tarrentum in a best-of-seven.

Is it finally Tarrentum’s turn? Can Newmanistan win their 5th championship? Can Sarzonia repeat? Can your first time signup make the playoffs?

A lot of different stories, but we all collide here. There are powerhouses and newcomers waiting to become powerhouses.

It’s time to sign up. We’ll get it started Do so on this thread.

Host bids will also need to be submitted. In order to be considered a VALID host bid, it should look a little something like this. These are the important things we need to know, and if it does not contain this information it will not be listed as a host bid.

I am going to set Monday, June 13th, as the deadline for the submittal of host bids, and we can then have a vote.

OFFICIAL HOST BID

for

WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 19

Introduction: Newmanistan is excited to make their first attempt to host a major event since the “hiatus”. What better sport for that to be, then in baseball. No nation has won the World Baseball Classic more then Newmanistan, having been victorious in the 10th, 12th, 15th, and 17th editions. We have also hosted it thrice, those being the 8th, 11th, and 14th editions. The World Baseball Classic is the competition that we are the most passionate about on the forum. The regulars, which are ultimately going to be the Council members voting on the host bids are well aware of this history, so it goes without saying that we’ll put on a great show.

Format: I believe in inclusion rather then exclusion as long as we don’t ever get to the number of signups that the World Cup sees. We haven’t had to worry about that yet, so as long we get a workable number of entrants, everyone is invited. To get a workable number, I will first ask people to throw in a puppet to get the next workable plateau as opposed to taking the axe to get to the prior plateau. Once there, you can expect to see a double round robin where you will play each of your groupmates once at home, and once on the road. As far as the playoffs as concerned, it will make sense. With 30-40 participants, you’ll see a round of 16, with possibly a play-in round preceding the round of 16. All series other then the championship series will be a best-of-three. The championship will be a best-of-seven. All playoff games will be in Newmanistan. Tiebreakers are: H2H, OVERALL RD, overall RF, overall road wins, then a tiebreaker game.

Scorination & RP Bonus: The Miscellanator will return, and it will use the same modifier as Cassadaigua used, explained in that link, to the original rank value. When it comes to RP bonus, I re-iterate that my passion for the WBC is equal to that of what people such as Starblaydia have towards the World Cup. It is my primary tournament, not a secondary, and therefore I will exercise a cumulative RP bonus that is very generous, because I want there to be a lot of RP. RP quality is valued much more then RP quantity, so make that I want there to be a lot of good RP. What do I consider good? Interaction with opponents; taking in all possible information from the competition and your competitiors and using it in your RP; and telling an entertaining story with some relevance to the tournament. Box scores are ok. But do note when I grade a box score-RP, I do actually look at it to see that you have followed the opponent’s permissions and that you did not cut and paste. If you scored 5 runs and your “runs” column says 5 at the bottom but adds up to 7 because you cut and paste and didn’t fix something, I WILL notice. Likewise if your linescore or box score contains something to do with your opponent from the previous game that you didn’t change, I will notice. And then grade accordingly.

Hosting Experience: As mentioned, I hosted World Baseball Classics 8, 11, and 14. Also staying on the diamond, I hosted Keisler Cups 1, 2, and 4 (a U-21 baseball tournament). Also on my hosting resume include: World Cup 49, Cups of Harmony 33, 35, and 39, World Bowls 1, 2, and 5, World Cup of Hockey 10, World Lacrosse Championships 2, 4, 5; NSCAA 1 and co-hosted parts of NSCAA 3, including the final, and some smaller events.

WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 19
DELACLAVA BID

We are excited to present the Delaclav bid for the 19th World Baseball Classic. Delaclava has made the knockouts twice in 7 Classics but may be remembered more for that lovely 0-10 record in the 17th World Baseball Classic, the only time a team has gone winless in the past four WBC's. Nevertheless, the program is undergoing reform, a Delaclav manages the defending champions, the Sarzonia Stars, and we're enthusiastic about hosting this tournament. Also, 19 is a very lucky number for us Phoenixes.

Experience: This will be Delaclava's first hosted baseball tournament. Previously, Delaclava has hosted the 55th World Cup, 44th and 46th Cups of Harmony, 7th International Basketball Championships, 11th World Bowl, 4th Baptism of Iron, 2nd Quidditch World Cup, Valhalla Skating Grand Prix, six Scott Cups, Quinniville Carpet Championships (Tennis), Three Rivers Classic (Athletics), part of NSCAA 3, 5th Commonwealth Cup, and 1st Phoenix Cup.

Scorination: The scorinator will be Commerce Heights' xkoranate 0.3.0. I have previously used this for IBC7, the VSGP, the 6th Scott Cup, the Three Rivers Classic, and NSCAA 3. This scorinator was used effectively by Qazox in Baseball Q.U.E.S.T., and I believe it is a solid scorinator for baseball. Scorination will occur at 10-11 PM Eastern Time.

Roleplay Bonuses: RP bonus will be cumulative, and RP bonus will be weighted quite heavily. An unranked team who reaches the maximum bonus consistently would be able to catch up with the top-ranked team (assuming that team didn't RP, of course). The body of work over a course of a matchday is considered, rather than individual RPs, and quality and originality is much more important than length.

Format: Each group will have the same amount of teams, and each groupmate will play each other twice, once at home and once on the road. Groups will be drawn from pots created by rank. If the number of signups is not preferable to work with and no more signups are coming in, voluntary puppet withdrawals will be asked for, and then puppets will be removed by reverse order of signup. Overall run differential, H2H results and H2H differential will be the tiebreakers. If ties cannot be broken and the tie must be broken to determine playoff qualification, there will be a single playoff game. If the tie must be broken to determine seeding, a coin will be flipped to determine the seeding.
The goal for the playoffs is 16 teams, in a single-elimination bracket. The round of 16, quarterfinals and third-place playoff will be best-of-three series, the semifinals will be best-of-five series, and the championship will be a best-of-seven series. All playoff games will take place in Delaclava.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to share them!

The Syvorjin National Baseball League, announces that it will sign up, to open Syvorji to the sporting world. However, in order to do so, we are going to reveal our roster, regarding our baseball players, as well as their uniforms.

For the Syvorjin pitcher, it will be 39 year old Sungcha Lingho, who has played baseball as a pitcher since he was 11, until he was 24 in the minor leagues, and since 25 at the Thessenes Eagles, one of Thessene's 4 baseball teams. Sungcha genuinely loves his team, but at the same time, if they lose, he is extremely willing to yell at the time, accusing them of their bad skills.

The coach would be Lahung Lingho, wife of Sungcha, who was married at the age of 27, when Sungcha was only 31 years old. She played baseball since she was 18, and rapidly rose to become coach, first in Yerevan Mountains, and today, for the Thessenes Eagles. She shares a similar personality to the team, in regards to baseball, as in the fact she loves the team, but if they lose, she'll yell and force them to train harder.

The catcher would be Atoli Singh, a female who came from Eeri at the age of 26. She rapidly chose to join the baseball time, and rose to become a well-known catcher, often giving witty remarks everytime she catches a foul ball, or a strike, or even a "ball," to the humor of the local audiences. Now at the age of 36, she enjoys the game, and hopes for the Syvorjin team to win.

For the bases, the 3 brothers were known to play them together and often exchange bases. For this one, since they come from Syvori Batters, they chose to use different bases.

Douglas Chaung, who is the oldest, at the age of 58. He enjoys baseball, as much as he does to alcohol. He played baseball since he was 25, and enjoys the base, and also enjoys alcohol, which he started to drink at the age of 33. He would be on 3rd Base, for the purposes of the game.

Sinh Chaung, who is the middle, at the age of 46 would go 2nd base. He enjoys baseball as much as his brother, but hates alcohol. Despite that, he joined his team when he was 28, and hopes that the Syvorjin team would win.

Laung Dei Chaung, the youngest started to play baseball at the age of 19, and now, at the age of 42, would go on 1st base. He enjoys baseball, to such a point that his own apartment is very close to a baseball field. He, too likes alcohol, and prefers whiskey, often drinking a shot after they lost.

The umpire would be Cecil Rhodes, who is 29, the youngest player that is being sent to the World Baseball Classic. He played since he was 9, and loved to be an umpire. At the age of 26, he recently joined the Islamabad Hijabs, and is, ironically enough, a Muslim, to such a point that if he was struck out, or out, he would recite a prayer to Allah for better skills.

For the 8 position players, they would be;

Andrew Simms - Male - Aged: 40
Lois Green - Female - Aged: 70 (oldest person being sent)
Chungsei La - Male - Aged: 35
Wongdei Hyu - Female - Aged: 61
Bjorn Ali - Male - Aged: 45
Imam Sahadae Mohammed - Male - Aged: 63
Kiana Wilson - Aged: 31
Joesph Kingston - Aged: 34

The backup pitchers would be Andreas Lu, and Kingda Pei, the backup catcher would be Sungma Longchei, the backup infielders would be Tito Lily, Odin Swidzinski, the backup outfielders would be Dau Po, Mariam Green, and a pinch hitter, who would be Xahei Mowarikyel.

As such, may we wish the Syvorjin Baseball Team luck on their debut, and may Huynma bless them.

Signed,
ศฟ้ีืเ ศรื้ิฟน

All we need is signups at this point (or valid host bids). List is updated as of this spot.

I remember a day when getting host bids for the WBC seemed like pulling teeth. Now we have two strong ones in the first six hours!

Colmark return for their second run!
There's a breathless hush in the Close to-night
Ten to make and the match to win
A bumping pitch and a blinding light,
An hour to play, and the last man in.
And it's not for the sake of a ribboned coat.
Or the selfish hope of a season's fame,
But his captain's hand on his shoulder smote
"Play up! Play up! And play the game!"
