Some confusion among the (many) newcomers appears to be arising over the status of the BoF in regards to the WC itself, as demonstrated by the above post. Hopefully I can clarify this, as well as having it clearer for future sign-up threads:
By signing up in this thread, any and pretty much every nation is entered into the
World Cup Qualifiers, which whittles down the eighty or so entrants to thirty-two teams (including hosts), much like the real World Cup. Every nation that has said 'we sign up' is, barring a couple of minor rules, eligible to enter.
The
Baptism of Fire is a tournament, for new nations only, that takes place before the World Cup Qualifiers. It is intended to be a warm-up, a practise, a primer, a tutorial and a general introduction to the World Cup and Sports RPing in general. Plus it gives ranking points that new nations otherwise would not have got, so all-in-all is a great thing to enter.
New nations can enter the World Cup without entering the Baptism of Fire, but by only asking to enter the Baptism of Fire they're signed up for the World Cup automatically anyway.
Hope that helps -
Star.
EDIT: Signup list updated, too. 79 nations (well, possibly 82) and we still haven't done MD2 of WC46 - excellent!
