We should be starting sign-ups soonishly as the beginning of June is usually when we start those.

Until or unless you have been voted in as host, or are in a position of authority, please avoid giving definitives. There is definitely no set date for Olympics signups and you shouldn't be giving a timeframe which may not be true.

Just to confirm, I do plan an eighth summer games bid, which will be posted in the next week or so after the completion of the WGPC season.

Being looking through the team I would assemble for the Olympics, are there limitations on the amount of events a certain person (as in athlete, not nation) could participate? I couldn't find any ruling upon this in the announcement thread. Not that I would go for outrageous amounts, but five or so would be an option. Or is such fixed in the host bid?
Cycling: host of the Island Tours & the WToC
Rugby: participant in the AVRU & host RWC XXI
Swamp Soccer: fourth place in the last World Championship
Korfball: victor of the World Korfball Classic III, second of the WKC IV (KPB: 2th)
Olympics: medals: four. Not too bad for a micronation.

No, there is no limit; individual hosts may choose to impose their own limits but to my knowledge none have done so. Admittedly as a host it is a bit annoying when someone enters an athlete into 20 events across seven sports, and then doesn't RP with them (making it incredibly unrealistic), but it's not something I would look to actively limit. All I would do is ask that people avoid it unless they're going to RP about such a super-talent.

Signups will begin when a host is elected.
There is a set list of events which will be included.

You become a member once you've participated in either of the most recent Olympics; in this case, the Eight Winter Olympics which took place in February or the Seventh Summer Olympics last August.

I know I may have asked this before, but I just want to be sure: In case I happen to have enough time to RP it / organize it, can I submit a hosting bid with the fullest intent that it will fail? Ie, I don't have an interest in hosting, but a bid would probably be fun to write up / roleplay.

You could certainly make it clear it's an IC bid while stating you don't wish for it to be considered OOCly. If you leave out key OOC details (eg scorination etc) it'll be fairly obvious – and the Olympic Charter says "Bids that do not include a testable scorinator will not be considered by the Council." So yes, you could do that.

Thanks for that info, Liv, and sharing your thought, Todd. This is an idea with some legs - I've always felt pressured by my characters and FSC's climate to submit an Olympic bid, but I don't have the chops or time to actually run one. I think I will submit an IC bid when I return to the Olympics.

OK. Could you explain how the system works? I just found this.

Yeah. Organization. How ofte do the games start? How long do they take? Is there any difference from the RL games? Could you give me a link to the rules?

Sorry for not explaining well enough, and thanks.

There are two a year (one winter, one summer); the duration of each is up to the elected host (usually 2–4 weeks for Winter Olympics and 4 weeks for Summer Olympics). The events at each Olympics are also held in real life, with minor modifications (e.g. for gender balance). I don't get what you mean by "rules".

Like the WC rules at the beginning of the sign-ups.

I was thinking of having a team of about 6-9 athletes/teams that did 1-2 events each. Would this be more the sort of realism you are after?

Signups will open as soon as a host is elected. Currently my guess is they will open in the next two to three weeks (I'll have my bid ready by the weekend, and Kry will hopefully hold the vote next week.)
