If you go to the Wikipedia page that I linked to, it has a pretty thourough explanation of the sport. The best way I can describe it is as field hockey on ice. They use a ball rather than a puck, and there are markings on the ice that are pretty similar to those in field hockey.

Guys, what about this:

Shofercia wrote:On a more serious note, I'm a bit confused by the following wording: All Games must include all of the sports and events on the base list identified by the President, with no additions or omissions except as permitted by the extended list.

The way I understand it, is that the base list is the list of events held in Vancouver in 2010, and the expanded list is the list of events planned in Sochi in 2014, and the gender-neutral additions to the list. The host must include the base list events, but can also include events from the extended list. If that's the case, how can any event be omitted? I can see how one could add an event from the extended list to the base list, while he's hosting the Olympics, but how can someone omit an event?

Here is my proposal:

Shadowbourne wrote:Shadowbourne's Department of Athletics would like to propose the inclusion of both men's and women's Bandy in the Games.

BANDY
Men's (1 team)
Women's (1 team)

OOC: Although bandy was the demonstration sport at the VI Olympic Winter Games in 1952 (Oslo, Norway), and is IOC accepted,it has not become an official Olympic sport. At 2014 Winter Olympics bandy will presented within the cultural programme and the international federation is trying become a full medal sport in Pyeongchang 2018. RPing the sport should be easy enough; bandy is pretty similar to hockey, and would be RP'd in a similar manner. The sport is included in xkoranate.

It was a demonstration sport in Ashton; no reason why it shouldn't be proposed again.

Wrestling has been dropped from the Olympic program, beginning with the 2020 Olympics. The reasoning is that the IOC want to "Streamline" the Olympics, coming to the consensus under secret ballot. All of the Olympics sports were at risk of being dropped, where modern pentathlon was almost certain to be removed, so this came as a shock. Wrestling has been in the Olympics since ancient times, so dropping a familiar sport almost seems ridiculous.

Going by this news, will potential Summer Games hosts drop wrestling immediately in this coming edition, or will they hang on to it for now? If they remove it, I don't see any reason why you can't bring it back as a demonstration sport, right?

The same way that we haven't yet added rugby sevens and golf to the base events list, I don't expect us to drop wrestling from the base list until the first Olympic year it is dropped. And as long as it remains on the base list, all hosts would be expected to include it. Bear in mind that there is a vote in September this year to possibly add an Olympic sport. Wrestling will be at that vote, as will squash, baseball/softball, and other sports. It's entirely possible wrestling will be re-admitted and it would not be wise for us to take a needless decision now.

When i saw this this morning my jaw just dropped. (on the news) I've never been a fan of wrestling overall but it definitely deserves to be in the olympics and it has been in it forever. Other sports, i.e. Baseball and Softball weren't world sports and thus taking them out of the olympics and looking at others to replace them made sense, but taking out wrestling from the olympics would be like taking out track and field, and swimming in terms of its importance to the idea of the olympics.

If they dont put wrestling back in they have issues.
I have a feeling that unlike the previously dropped sports it has a great chance at making it back in.

Although I, for one, fully support wrestling being on the Olympics, I'm afraid it ain't
a) popular enough anymore in the nations with the big sponsormoney
b) lacks the strong lobbygroup supporting the sport

But, fingers crossed. Of the other list, only -possibly- squash seems international enough if you ask me.

A little prod to get this back on the radar, this is about the time I'd say those considering hosting the Summer Olympics should start putting a bid together.

With Krytenia currently only intermittently here, and with myself considering putting forward a bid, someone – probably Kel or CH – will have to collect the votes if I am unable to.

I know its probably up to the host, but is there an approximate timeframe as to when the Summer Olympics will be held? Am I right in guessing that there is a high chance of the Olympics being held at the same time as BoF 52 and/or World Cup 65 qualifying? I ask because I'm trying to decide whether to enter a puppet in the World Cup.

Given there's usually about 3-4 weeks for signups for the Olympics and there's still at least a 2-3 week bidding/voting period ahead of us, the earliest start we're looking at is mid July. I'd expect the BoF to be done by then though it may well catch the tail end of WC65 qualifying.

Thanks. I have a big RP planned for the Olympics that will involve both my main nation and a puppet (not the one that is entering the World Cup). I wanted to make sure I'd have ample time for that.

You have never hosted an NS Sport event. Why should we trust you with the largest and most complicated one to run?

Original City Centre, Liventia Winter Olympics bid
Original Kannap bid wrote:About the city
Belino, Kannap, is one of the southern-most cities in the nation.

The city was one of the main cities in consideration of becoming the capital of Kannap. The city was dropped from consideration when concern of invasion by sea was thought of, therefore the city did not become the capital. Some government agencies remain in Belino, and it stood as the capital of Free Kannap during the First Reign of Fascism. The royal family also has a palace in Belino, where they spend their entire summers there because of its beauty.

Spectators will fly into Belino-Hotu International Airport, from where there is a Am-Rail train link to the centre of the city. The Am-Rail is the speediest and most convenient transportation in Kannap, and has also been noticed as the safest. All public transport will be free to athletes and officials during the Games. Public transport will be half price to spectators.

About the country
Kannap takes pride in its beauty, and therefore has many environmental laws and other laws that foreigners should know about. Littering can carry a fine of $500-$2,000, and there is a trash can and recycling bin at every intersection. More trash and recycling bins will be available during the games than on a normal day, so please throw all trash away. Kannap has a ban on smoking in public, and there are special areas marked off for smoking where you cannot be fined for this misdemeanor. All drug trade is banned. The minimum drinking age for drinking in Kannap is 17. If you have any other questions regarding laws, ask any police officer, they will be glad to answer your questions.

About the bid
The Kannapian Internal Olympic Board was founded recently, and allowed Kannap to participate in the winter olympics. However, more summer Olympic events are favored in Kannap and the nation has many great athletes. Kannap is also very beautiful in the summer, and this is wanted to be shown to the world by allowing people from many nations come to Kannap for this event. The Kannapian Internal Olympic Board looked at three Kannapian cities: Bergsstad, Belino, and Kannapolis. The capital was not deemed of perfection by the Board, and therefore was removed from consideration. After a vote between Belino and Bergsstad, the city of Belino won the bid 53-21.

The Kannapian Internal Olympic Board then notified Belino to come up with a logo for their bid. The official Games logo for the Eighth Summer Olympics that Belino has designed is shown above. The design is in the shape of a sun, in which the inner circle makes the letter 'o' in the city's name. The color orange is used for the middle, since this is the official color of Belino. The six rays coming from the inner circle are the colors of the International Olympics.

Bid specifics/OOC important bits
The Games will take place over four-and-a-half weeks, from July 18 to August 12, with one daily scorination around 1:30PM Eastern Standard Time and the occasional off day.

The most up-to-date version of xkoranate at the time of the opening ceremony will be used.

The events list will follow the base list exactly. No events currently not on the base list will be held. There will be no demonstration events put forward as part of this bid, but demonstration events may be proposed and will be considered for inclusion.

Each user may enter up to two separate associations (clearly labelled as being controlled by the same user). Each association may enter up to 150 entries; two associations by the same user may enter up to 300 entries in total (as long as neither exceeds 150). The average rating will be announced at a later time, but will be the exact mean of the minimum and maximum possible ratings. The average delegation rating CANNOT EXCEED 50.00 as the rating system to be used will be from 0-100. Any such delegations will be asked to re-rate their delegation.

A maximum of 300 athlete entries and two signup entries per user, without exceptions.

Strongly suggest you think twice about bidding at all.
