Question, Caf...

Are the volleyball group for indoor volleyball? If I recall right, last year there were also group play matches for beach volleyball. If this changed, I am just curious, because I will have to turn into an RPing fiend to keep my beach volleyball teams in a single elimination stage tourney. ;)

Beach volleyball will be groups too, but didn't make the draw, will have it only after scorination.

Talking about scorination, I will need to make it two scorinations today to relax a little, since I had to set up the groups for several team sports today, and this was very tiring. Right now, I'll scorinate Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Fencing, Swimming and Weightlifting which will award the first medals. The other scorination would be in about 6 hours, and RPs after the current cutoff will be counted before the next one today.

I am fairly confident I can say that there will be a seperate results thread because each Olympics has had one. ;)

I don't think I am over stepping my bounds by saying that....

Alright... I'll add them, scorinating the women's match in the next scorination after sending your team to one of the groups with 5 teams, since matchday one was now. These mistakes are prone to happen, unfortunately.

And becoming even more of one as time goes by: 78 nations involved last time around, IIRC, but 103 for these Games! I wonder how many there'll be next time? (And how much longer it will take for running the Olympics to become too much for a single host...)

I know it must be incredibly tough!!!!!!!!

Something I propose going into the next games, although it would likely mean an alteration to the Olympic charter, is something along the lines of the following:

Several qualifying tournaments for international athletes. This can be divided between as many nations as possible. Some could do aquatics, others athletics, others team sports, etc. From there on, the athletes have to qualify to get into the Olympics, bringing the actual numbers of contenders at the Olympics drastically down and making for a smooth competition.

This is just, obviously, an idea in it's infancy. ;)

Also, likely just my bad eyes not seeing it, but I believe one of my lady fencers, Madeline Lear, disappeared after winning her first-round match, I didn't see her at all in the second round. I apologize in advance if I am just missing seeing it.

I have the same thing with my badminton player Judoc Zappa... Maybe I am wrong, but so far I see Zappa won his first two rounds but disappeared in the third round.

Yes, My female badminton player, Jemma Schleck, has disappeared after getting two byes through the first two rounds, but Wilma Shott is still their.

But I know running the Games is near impossible, so it's hard to keep track of every single detail

Actually, in the Badminton case it was an idiot mistake of mine... forgot to remove April Wilsen, Debby Little and Adriana Portamares. Fixing it right now with just rematches of the matches involving these three (your athlete ended being left out because the number of athletes for the round was an odd number, and she was last of the list in the draw).

This is the same issue of CKY's athlete, he's still on the list, but it's being more difficult for me to find out who shouldn't be in this case.

* Luckily, Debby Little played Adriana Portamares in the round, so the harm was even smaller.

Alright, this is no problem... correction is easy. The pointed ones are done, with the exception of Zappa's case right now, but as soon as I find the mistake this one will be solved too. This first day has been difficult due to the fact that I had to immediately work on it after just finishing with the group draw and the entries without sleep, so I believe things will go more calmly in the future.

Sorth pointed this out on IRC, and I’ll mention it here in case anyone else notices it: the fixtures for the first matchday of five-team groups are not 4v5, 1v2 as stated, but apparently 4v5, 3v1. There are two 1v2 matches in the fixtures list and no 3v1, so I presume the fixtures actually being used are correct.

Why not... why put such a huge burden on the host(s), or force co-hosting to be the only real option. I mean, for christ's sake, the numbers are only going up and up and up and up with the number of nations participating. I can almost gurantee with 100% accuracy that half of the participating nations at these games will not do a single RP, and that some will go inactive during the games. What is the point of this? Why put such a lage, idiotic burden on the host(s)? I think it is necessary.

Also, I feel like some nations who have never sent players to another event for that sport and beat someone else at it is quite odd...like they've never participated in the World Cup, World Bowl, etc.

I can use tennis as an example because that's an easy sport to describe. Say that you are playing in the ATP (Men's Tennis) and you qualify for the Olympics by participating in Davis Cup. Well you get to play singles and doubles. Just playing Davis Cup for a certain amount of time up to the Olympics makes you eligible, versus just signing up. For more specific there is Player 1, Novak Djokovic, and Player 2, Rafael Nadal. (this is not a real example, btw) Djokovic plays in Davis Cup and is eligible for Olympics. Nadal does not play Davis Cup and does not get invited to play in the Olympics. But if they were on NS Tennis, they would just sign up and play, meaning that a player ranked 1,005 can play with people in the top 5. I find that....odd. But here on Nationstates, there are a TON of people who do not participate in events like International Tennis Association, or any other tournament leading up.

So yeah that ended up confusing, but qualifications would root out inactive nations and help the host a lot.

There are people who do not participate in other competitions for good reasons. It is incorrigible to penalise them for refusing to do so, and it is likewise unacceptable to force people to take part in them just to "qualify" for the Olympics.

This stinks of "I'm affected, I don't like it, I want to change it to suit me – and maybe I get to 'host' the 'Olympics' (qualifying) along the way".

If you don't like it, don't bid to host the Olympics. People who are ready and willing to handle the "problem" will do so.

Nope, I have been thinking of qualifications forever to be honest.

And your way sounds like "I don't like change because the current system benefits me."
