Is there anyone willing to submit a joint (maybe even three-way) bid to host the Games around the first half of September with me (previous experience with this nation being the Open of Kubistvis (138 events) and a CEIII)?

I would strongly advise against a multi-host bid. Things are (surprisingly, perhaps) more complicated when you've got multiple people trying to organise one thing.

Not to mention your post fails to mention your previous multi-sport event failures with your other nations.

1. I feel that 300+ events might be too much; that's why I'm asking for a partner. We could split the events in such a way that it works as two different parallel things in terms of hosting.

2. It does. But the Open of Kubistvis and the CEIII were held in 2012, nine months AFTER the Youth Games fiasco (which in fact, happened three and a half years ago; I've evolved and matured since then); which I acknowledge was a complete waste of space in the NS Sports forum and a naïve attempt at hosting something (anything?) large. Also, in case of hosting the Olympics, I'd only use two of my nations (one of the issues that arose during the YG); MMAB will be in place and my team won't be the best (the other issue that arose during the YG) since there is no IC justification for it (I have skipped major sports events in the past two years).

EDIT: Oh, and nations? Nation. Singular. Soviet Canuckistan has no connection with me whatsoever (not my country and we haven't talked ever since).

If you have "skipped major sports events in the past two years" and yourself don't feel that you've had hosting experience since 2012, why are you (re)starting with the Olympics?

In other words, things don't add up and you are certainly not someone I would ever feel comfortable entrusting a Winter Olympic Games to – let alone the summer games.

I'm not "(re)starting" per se (at least in my opinion), in the past two years I've watched closely everything going around; I just didn't have time or energy to actively participate. Both of them are things I have now (until October).

And I'm just putting out there the idea because I see no one else wants to host the Games around this time of the year, and I feel I could try. I'm not saying I will succeed, because I know that fiasco left a stain in my "résumé". But, I believe everyone deserves a second chance; and after all, there has to be a bid, there has to be a voting; and there has to be a majority to be chosen. I'm just weighing the options.

If you were to start by bidding to host a minor event, after actively participating in the forums for six months or so, I might be inclined to agree with you and give you a second chance. But not the Olympics. And not when you haven't actively participated until right now.

The reason no one wants to host the games is because the Olympics are the most grueling and intensive event(s) to host in NSSport. It takes at least a month of your time to do the work and that's if you've already done the prework leading up to the bid and winning it. You have to be utterly dedicated to the event to even think about hosting it and then have the wherewithal to know how to host it and do it without it driving you absolutely mad, while having a thick skin for when you are criticized for your inevitable errors while hosting it (as events like the World Cup and Olympics always have an error or two). It has seen the retirements of at least three of its hosts and the quasi retirements of another two.

Given your history in events thus far, it is not a wise decision to jump into the idea of hosting it right away. Perhaps something small to try and win back the trust and respect of the NSSport populace but not the most intensive and dedicated event there is. Better for the games not to run than to have someone who isn't trustworthy or experienced or dedicated enough to host them, IMO.

Firstly, I think its presumptuous to assume no-one is interested in hosting it.

Secondly, as others have explained, your credentials to host are not particularly good. I can't say I'd be enthusiastic about you hosting the Olympics due to your previous record and behaviour, as well as your noticeable absence. I say that without trying to sound too mean, its just how I feel.

Even Krytenia, who has hosted just about everything (including the Olympics) didn't return and immediately bid for the Summer Olympics, by far the biggest event in this whole subforum (and quite possibly the whole forum, period.) He participated for a couple months, then bid for the Cup of Harmony, which while a major event, is nowhere near as big as the Olympics. And frankly, if two days after returning, or, as you say, beginning to "actively participate again", Kry bid for the Summer Olympics, I wouldn't vote for him either. Assuming he pulls off the CoH successfully, which I'm sure he will, I'd vote for him next year if he bids, or even later this year if we don't get a successful bid soon. But not as the first tournament after a prolonged absence, and not mere days after returning. And he has far more experience than you.

Well, technically we have to have it, or we can't have a Winter Olympics next year (unless we amend the Charter, which is also a possibility if need be.) But we don't have to have it right now, in the North American summer. Electrum has said he'd be open to hosting in November/December but can't do it sooner. So that's one interested bidder who, in my opinion at least, is qualified. And it's worth it to wait that long to have it done right.

Edit: Quoted Eura's post instead of Valanora's. Here's what I meant to quote.

Valanora wrote:The reason no one wants to host the games is because the Olympics are the most grueling and intensive event(s) to host in NSSport. Also, it's worth noting that the last host of the Summer Olympics (Kytler Pen) nearly did go insane from it quite literally. He wound up having several panic attacks. Fortunately, he realized (quite rightly) that his mental health was more important than the competition and wound up delaying the Games several times to avoid having a nervous breakdown.

I think it's fairly obvious that things will get moving when we get a bid. It's rather pointless asking for updates when there's nothing in the official announcements thread.

Perhaps instead of arguing about hosting the Olympics we could just roleplay a bunch of nations boycotting it for some reason.

The City of Ousevale's Bid for the Games of the Tenth Olympiad

THE TECHNICAL BIT

Scorination
Xkoranate will be used for the Games, version 0.3.3. The 0-100 system used since the VII Winter Olympics to decide ranks will continue be used, as will the handy MMAB system for avoiding the <expletive deleted> min-maxing trend that got me a wee bit hot under the collar three years ago (thanks, KP!).

Schedule
The provisional schedule for the Games will take place over the course of six weeks, with the date of the Opening Ceremony no later than Friday 2nd October, and ideally Saturday 26th September. As with the VII Summer Olympics, the competition would start before this with the first round of group play in the men's and women's football, the ranking rounds of the men's and women's archery, and qualifying for the men's and women's artistic gymnastic competitions taking place in the three days immediately prior to the Opening Ceremony.

The schedule would be a “fluid speed” schedule – essentially providing two or three scorinations for each IC “day”, actually taking two to three RL days. In other words, the first scorination of the Games proper would be Day 1's “morning” events; scorination the following day would be for Day 1's “afternoon” events. Particularly crowded IC "days" will have "morning", "afternoon", and "evening" scorinations.

Please also be aware that due to my shift patterns at work, schedules may be subject to change at short notice. Apologies.

Additional Medal Events
All of the extended list of events will be held, with the exception of the women's 25m rapid fire pistol shooting event.

Demonstration Sports
O4 (The Ousevale Olympic Organisation Overseers) are happy to endorse demonstration events with required support (seven NOCs in this instance). However, no demonstration sports will be host-scorinated. Anyone wishing to propose a demonstration sport should explicitly state who will be scorinating, and how – O4 (OOC: me) reserves the right to reject demonstration sports where these criteria are not met to their satisfaction.

THE CIVIC PRIDE BIT

The City
Ousevale, Krytenia's third biggest city, is the cultural hub of Nova Mercia, a group of the southernmost provinces of the nation. Noted for its architecture and university (the University of Ousevale, or UO, is Krytenia's largest), Ousevale is a charming city combining the old and the modern. Transport is excellent, with a modern metro system and (mostly) reliable bus network; it's also connected to most local, regional, and large national cities by the nation's extensive road and rail network.

The Olympic Zone, Campbelltown
A new-build Olympic Park will be built for the games in the Campbelltown area of the City. This will include the Ousevale Olympic Stadium (capacity 125,000), a new Aquatics Centre, two new temporary indoor stadia, and the two extant buildings in the area - namely Campbell Park football stadium, which will hold the archery events, and the Spencer Homes Arena (renamed the White Arena for the Games), which will hold the gymnastics and latter stages of the basketball.

The Denbigh Zone, Denbigh
The Denbigh Park area, made up of the Southern Arena (football finals) and Denbigh Indoor Showground Complex (a network of large multi-use buildings, hosting several events). This will also be home to the new VeloMercia velodrome. A little to the north (in the Wallingtree district) is Mill Lake, a man-made lake for the rowing events.

The Greenford Zone, Greenford
The Greenford area in the northwest of Ousevale is home to the National Racquet Sports Centre, with eighteen tennis courts (including four show courts) and an extensive complex for badminton usage. Half a mile away is Greenford Range, which will hold the shooting events.

The Central Zone, Ousevale City
The National Hockey Stadium in the west of the city centre will host...take a guess. Road-based events will be run around the city centre too, though the marathon and race walk will have a seven kilometre stretch between the centre and Denbigh Park to finish in the OOS.

The Mercian Zone, Everywhere Else
The city of St Peter's will host sailing events. Football preliminaries will take place in Bromham, Leston, Dereapolis, Ashton, Highfield, and Tyfield, as well as in Ousevale itself. Wick Hill Park, near Wick, will hold the mountain biking, whilst a white-water sports complex will be constructed near the River Oss between Ousevale and Noton, to the north of the city.

NYAQs
What's a NYAQ? It's a Not Yet Asked Question, of course! If you have one, on OOC or IC matters, ask away.

Yeah, see next page.

Some questions:

First, the OOC ones.

1. Why no women's rapid fire pistol?
2. Will golf and rugby sevens be held, seeing as they will be Olympic sports next year? Also, seeing as Olympic boxing has changed rulesets to make it more like professional boxing (no headgear, must-ten, etc.) and qualifying competitions in that format are already underway IRL, will we be using the old rules (and scorinator)? If not, where is this new scorinator coming from?
3. Will you be reaching out to Saintland/FFR to see if he can modify his Winter Olympics signup app thingy to work for the Summer Games? It would make things much more easier. And KP's spreadsheet didn't exactly work well last year.

Next, the IC ones.

1. How will the equestrian events be handled for nations with sapient horses? Will the horses have to ride another, non-sapient horse or can they compete on their own? And will they be forced to carry a rider-shaped weight and/or a rider who does nothing? What about in modern pentathlon, where riders typically get their horse mere minutes before the start of the event and have no training riding them? Surely a sapient pony would have an unfair advantage here, unless we ban him from ever doing anything until five minutes before the equestrian starts, which would be hard because it's not the first event. And other reasons.
2. How will medal ceremonies be handled? Will we finally hear the national anthem of Gregoryisgodistan at a Summer Olympics? And speaking of which, Gregoryisgodistani anthem protocol requires all nine verses of the anthem to be played whenever it is performed, whether as a vocal or an instrumental, though this is not binding on foreign entities during events outside Gregoryisgodistan. (On the other hand, even though the Olympic Council is a foreign entity, it would be binding on them should Gregoryisgodistan ever host the Olympics. Which we won't. But that's not the point.) Will you be following the protocol anyway, and similar protocols of other nations if they have them and request it?
3. What language will be used for the Parade of Nations, and what language(s) will be the official one(s) of the Games? If you're using a non-English language, note that Lord Almighty Gregory's name has a no-translation rule, so we would be, for instance, Gregoryesdiosistan, not Gregorioesdiosistan. Will this be respected, if applicable?
4. Given that multiple countries currently have extradition requests pending for Lord Almighty Gregory for crimes against humanity (among other charges), will he be permitted to enter the country and compete in the Games along with his wife Cleffie Martinez, without being charged with a crime or extradited, provided of course that he follows all local laws while within the country?
5. On that note, will any effort be made by the Krytenian government to liberate the slaves and/or concubines who compete for Gregoryisgodistan?

Regarding the second question, if golf and rugby sevens are not part of Krytenia's bid, I would be willing to scorinate them as demonstration events. Regarding the third question, I will be releasing a version of Signup Creator for the Summer Olympics, since I will be using it for my own signup(s).

One more question - since Kytler Pen apparently CTE'd, who's in charge to organize the host vote? FFR, as the Vice President, or Liventia, as the last President still active?

The Olympic Charter provides for an order of succession; Saintland/Free Republics would be acting President (see 1.3.1).

First, the OOC ones.

1. Why no women's rapid fire pistol?

1. Including the rapid fire means altering the 25m pistol event, and I've got enough on my plate already. Honestly, if I come out the other end of this without a two-year hiatus, I'll be happy.
2. Nope and nope. They should be in for XI, though, when the base list is updated. Old rules and scorinator will be used, because smaller migraine.
3. God yes. And this is the man who started the min-max debate waaaaaay back at VII (search EMOS), so I will be hitting the spreadsheet with a hammer in the meantime.

1. At VII, the rule was "horse with rider"; I'm extending that to "horse with sapient rider". Sapient ponies for the modern pentathlon will be forbidden from viewing the course until the event itself, as will their "rider", to provide an interesting disadvantage. Plus, ponies tend not to be the best swimmers, so potayto potarto on the advantage in the long gallop.
2. Anthems will be limited to no more than three minutes duration. It will be cut accordingly (and instumental).
3. English only. Although Spanish is widely spoken in most of Krytenia, Nova Mercia is very much Anglophonic.
4. No extradition requests apply; however, if another nations police wish to arrest and extradite the guy, and fill in the relevant paperwork, we'll be passing the popcorn and watching the excrement hit the ventilation device.
5. Only if they express a desire to defect and/or seek political asylum. Krytenia disapproves of slavery, but we aren't the Multiverse Police.

Given the new bid for an October-November Olympics, what are your plans? Do you still intend to bid, and if so would you continue to do so with a November-December timeframe? (We're still a few months out, so if you want to, don't feel put off by Kry's bid.)

Ok, Saintland/FFR mentioned on IRC that he doesn't have the password to the Olympic Council account. Would you happen to still have it, or maybe Commerce Heights does?
