Despite an applaudable scoreline, observers and analysts have noted that the Blue Boys should have had much less trouble getting past the Caraquenian defense, who nevertheless showed praiseworthy effort throughout the game in order to make up for the constant absence of Nuevo Caracas' shoddy two-man midfield. Pundits additionally remarked that the Blue Boys were playing uncharacteristically defensively, citing Frank Spelmeyer's temporary absence as a preventive factor to the Acronians' offensive chemistry, as Alexis Lestrange was more often than not a holding midfielder like Arturo Santiago. Henry Coyle was more than happy with the result, however, lauding his team for their performance.
The game started off subtly despite an 80,000 strong crowd, with Acronius' forward trio much more timid to score than they were against Super-Llamaland. The first twenty minutes of the game saw the Blue Boys enjoy comfortable domination over the ball, while the offensive line beat around the bush, so to speak, testing a sturdy, but timid Caraquenian defense, who were even capable of producing a few brilliant shotstoppers in the back. The opener came inside of thirty minutes, with Saul Vesper, the 'Six-Yard Assassin' claiming his third goal of the tournament. Winger Max Fawden dragged along Francois Gauthier for a speed burst, before the 31 year old fired a sitting pass into the box. Axel Aubry effortlessly burnt off two Caraquenian defenders with a dummy, before Saul Vesper put goalkeeper Gabino Dorantes to shame with a rabona that did not fail its target. 1-0 for the Blue Boys in the 28th minute.
However, the Caraquenians didn't even seem fazed by Vesper's goal, conversely putting twice as much effort in order to limit the skill deficit between themselves and their opponents. Their 4-2-4 formation proved to be a huge tactical fault, however - this formation only works with exceptional midfielders and a persistent offensive line, neither of which the Caraquenians possessed. This left their defensive line completely cut off from any support - and Henry Coyle realized this at half time, bringing on the offensive-minded Frank Spelmeyer for the much more conservative Alexis Lestrange in order to capitalize on this error. Change slowly came, with ball possession land-sliding in favor of the Acronians. The defense was probably the only positive element of the Caraquenian team now, as the back four fended off the attacking Acronians time after time. Realizing the Blue Boys would need even more offensive firepower to break the line, Coyle made his decision, bringing off six-yard poacher Saul Vesper for an explosive rookie nobody knew before this match: Joe di Scampi.
A mere five minutes after the youngster came on, he made his name as a super sub, firing in a sitter from 25 yards out, doubling the scoreline. The Blue Boys weren't done though - and treated their stadium with a third goal: after all, what's an Acronian game without a Blackett goal? The star striker took advantage of a quick counterattack in the final moments of the game, racing up the pitch before blasting a furious shot into the back of the net. The referee blew the whistle: Acronius 3, Nuevo Caracas 0.
