FEDOROGRAD VELORING, VIKAR OF KRASNOVA

Lunar Firestorm Garage – Saturday Post-Qualifying

The two racing girls of the New Solisian Union were coming in to see the timing screen at the center of the pit wall. It blinked in harsh white luminescence against the darkening Krasnovan dusk. And, at once, they saw what they needed to see.

- P7 – Viting Horsele (Tango et Kartuma): 1:43.533

- P8 – Karina Monraksha (Lunar Firestorm): 1:43.546

- P9 – Kamila Saidova (Team Sasha): 1:43.559

Thirteen milliseconds ahead. Thirteen milliseconds behind.

Karina kept herself close to Juzui, standing with her helmet tucked under her arm, adjusting her glasses, just a little, with one gloved hand as she studied the numbers. Unlike Coda, Karina was not the kind of woman who would commit herself to the slamming of chairs and the throwing of tools. Though Karina shared the same Ayr blood in her veins with Coda, the same sort of blood that ran hot like the sun above the deserts and mountains and hills, Karina merely exhaled a slow, controlled breath that misted in the cold, coastal winds that were still coming in after them, the winds just blowing off the naval docks.

"Sector Two's clean," Karina said calmly, glancing over at Jeanne. "The active floor did decently at Turn 8, but down that back stretch, Horsele’s car just walked away by half a tenth. I hope I am not being too rude, but I must say that we're scrubbing too much on the top end."

Further down the bay, Nassrena was unstrapping her HANS device after putting Egamela in P16 with a 1:46.431. She walked over, wiping sweat from the back of her neck with a towel, and offered Karina a quiet nod. "Traffic was stacked through Sector Three on my final flyer, but I feel planted. The car's planted," Nassrena reported, leaning against the workbench. "I have no issue with any of the corners. It’s just that when we hit the long straight, everyone else has another gear to give. Starting sixteenth is going to be a serious struggle into Turn 1, but if we can't pass on the straight, we’re stuck."

Jeanne threw down her grease rag and turned toward the back of the garage, where Canzal sat studying the championship telemetry on her tablet.

"They're right, Canzal," Jeanne said bluntly. "The Veloring is forty percent straight-line running, and tomorrow, I think if I recall it all correctly, there's that damned prognostic calling for heavy winds. If we sit on our hands, the high-drag setup will get murdered in crosswind gusts. We need to really consider using Upgrade Package Two tonight."

Canzal didn't answer immediately. Her dark eyes flicked across the telemetry data, weighing the risk. Forzala 1 regulations allowed three upgrade windows per season. The team had preserved their package through Cerfonlande and Zarbia, relying on raw mechanical cornering grip. But looking ahead at the final high-speed rounds......

"Reliability's good across every race," Canzal noted, her voice steady. "The cooling systems are overbuilt for these colder northern tracks. We can consider changing things for ourselves."

She looked up at Jeanne. "Pull out a little from our focus on reliability and put yourselves into top speed. Re-trim the floor diffusers, lean out the fuel-air mixture on the V10 for maximum top-end revs, and reduce the frontal wing attack angle. Let's give them a car that can do the work properly down the straight."

Jeanne’s face lit up with a wolfish grin. "You heard the boss! Crack open the aero crates! We're trimming the trim tabs and remapping the power units before midnight!"

Within seconds, the Lunar Firestorm bay erupted into purposeful, coordinated chaos. Air guns whirred while titanium bolts clattered into magnetic trays. The scent of race fuel and heated carbon fiber filled the chilly Krasnovan night as the mechanics swarmed the two cars.

LUNAR FIRESTORM — OFFICIAL TECHNICAL UPDATE (UPGRADE #2)

Effective: Round 14 – Krasnova GP (Fedorograd Veloring)

- Top Speed: 96 (+10)

- Cornering: 93 (Unchanged)

- Acceleration: 86 (Unchanged)

- Energy: 70 (Unchanged)

- Reliability: 55 (-10)

- Total Allocation: 400 Points

Around 22:00, while the mechanics torqued down the revised floor assemblies, Karina and Nassrena sat on a shipping crate near the back of the hospitality tent, sharing a thermos of hot tea and a small box of spiced dried fruit. Outside, the heavy freight trains rolled past the distant perimeter, their whistles cutting through the salty air as the Solisian military news broadcasts silently looped on the wall monitor.

"Fifty-two laps tomorrow," Nassrena said softly, watching the steam rise from her cup. "With ninety-six top speed, I can make moves into Turn 1. If I manage the rears through the long sweeping arc, the consistency will pay off in the second stint."

Karina took a sip of her tea, her Ayr headscarf resting loosely over her shoulders. She looked across the garage floor toward Juzui, whose crimson-and-gold bodywork gleamed under the work lights.

"Horsele and Monteiro will try to pinch the inside at the start and they're probably going to fuck with me or you," Karina said. "With the extra speed, I won't have to force an impossible dive. We take what’s ours on the tarmac. Clean, fast, and without regret."

Nassrena smiled faintly and raised her cup. "For the Union."

Karina tapped her cup against Nassrena's. "For the Union."

As the midnight shift settled in, around one of the parts benches, Karina stood with her Ayr scarf draped over the back of a metal chair, a cup of warm water in hand, recounting her days behind the wheel of heavy logistics transports in the western interior of the New Union.

"So, we were all cutting through the foothills south of Sukhonai during a flash mobilization drill," Karina was saying, gesturing with her free hand while two young mechanics grinned. "Convoy officer told me to keep ourselves exactly at fifty kilometers an hour across an unpaved service trail. I took the turn too wide, jumped an irrigation berm, and ended up parking a twelve-ton flatbed straight through an old farmer’s melon patch. Two elderly Rasurr men chased the truck for half a kilometer on foot, throwing turnip roots and swearing by the Triad that they’d have my captain court-martialed for treason against agriculture."

A round of chuckles went up from the bench, but before the laughter faded, Karina’s sentence caught in her throat. Her face went completely blank, then drained of color in less than a second. A violent, subterranean gurgle emanated from beneath her ribs, loud enough that the mechanic holding a caliper paused and looked down at Juzui’s gearbox in confusion, wondering if a hydraulic line had just purged air.

Karina set the metal cup down on the bench with a sharp clatter. She turned and broke into a dead, flat-out sprint toward the private motorhome bathroom in the back corridor. What followed over the next twenty minutes defied the known biology of the human gastrointestinal tract.

When Nassrena walked down the hallway carrying a fresh blister pack of stomach tablets, she stopped dead outside the locked door. From within came sounds that bordered on industrial demolition, something like a relentless, earth-shattering evacuation of biblical proportions, punctuated by heavy, shuddering gasps.

"Uh... Kar? Karina?" Nassrena knocked cautiously with two knuckles. "Are you... surviving?"

Inside, Karina was gripping the fiberglass sink rim with white-knuckled desperation, completely drenched in a cold, shivering sweat. Her glasses had slid halfway down her nose, fogged from the sheer thermal output of the ordeal. Her chest heaved in ragged pants, eyes wide in a bizarre, glazed trance of pure agony colliding with an almost transcendent euphoria. It was horrifying, unnatural in sheer volume, and yet profoundly, undeniably relieving.

It was all just a total, volcanic purge for her, one that felt like she was shedding fifteen pounds of pure misery from her core almost instantly.

"...G..Guhh.. D-Don't... Do not," Karina managed between ragged, trembling breaths, "...come in here. For the love of the stars, give it ten minutes."

When the lock finally clicked and the door swung open, Karina stepped out looking like she had survived a high-G centrifuge test. Her Ayr scarf was bunched in her fist, her hair somewhat damp at the temples, but the tension that usually pinched her brow had completely evaporated. She looked entirely hollowed out, thoroughly exhausted, but at the same time, she seemed.... immensely, maybe wonderfully lighter.

Nassrena didn't ask questions and just handed Karina a large bottle of electrolyte-infused water and pointed toward the small dining nook, where a steaming bowl of plain white rice and salted broth was already waiting.

"Drink the entire bottle, eat the broth, and go straight to sleep," Nassrena commanded with calm, no-nonsense authority. "I'll tell Canzal you're on total rest until the morning driver briefing."

Karina nodded numbly, downed half the water in one long, grateful draft, and sank into the bench. With her stomach finally at peace and the car's upgrades locked in, she ate what she could and collapsed into her cot, ready to sleep straight through until the wind began to howl over the Veloring tarmac on Sunday.

Two hours and nineteen minutes after midnight, Nassrena snapped awake in the suffocating stillness of her bunk. The air in the small motorhome room was heavy and stagnant, and all because she had completely forgotten to switch on the little oscillating desk fan before lying down. She sat up and clicked the switch, letting the cool breeze wash over her neck, but an odd, restless hollow remained lodged in her ribs. Needing air, she pulled on a light fleece jacket and slipped outside into the biting Krasnovan night.

The paddock was mostly dark, cast in long, amber shadows by distant perimeter floodlights. As she took a quiet step across the gravel access alley, the toe of her sneaker caught the lip of a steel drainage plate. She pitched forward, stumbling into a clumsy, three-step tumble before catching herself on one knee. Sitting there in the dirt, she let out a dry, self-deprecating chuckle at her own clumsiness. But then the laugh died quickly in the cold.

Nassrena pulled her knees up to her chest, wrapping both arms tight around her shins. Looking out toward the dark silhouette of the harbor cranes, the memory of Coda Yin Saodah pressed down on her like lead. She remembered her fury, the shattered benches, the awful silence after the gunshot behind the hotel, and the desperate, fading grip of Coda’s bloody hand. A tight knot seized Nassrena’s throat, and she hugged herself harder, fiercely wishing none of it had ever happened, wishing the pressure and the pain hadn’t devoured her teammate whole.

A quiet footstep crunched in the gravel behind her. Karina emerged from the shadow of the transporter, her traditional Ayr scarf draped over her shoulders and her glasses slightly askew. Seeing Nassrena hunched on the ground, Karina didn't say a single word. She simply sat down in the cold dirt beside her, wrapped her strong arms around Nassrena, and pulled the smaller woman close.

Nassrena buried her face against Karina’s collar, breathing in her scent. For a long, long moment, the world stopped. When they finally eased back, their faces remained inches apart. In the dim wash of the yard light, their eyes locked, both of them breathing the same frosty air, leaning in as if pulled together by an unspoken, magne—

BOOM!

A deafening, concussive blast ripped through the open bay behind them, sounding like an anti-armor munition detonating inside an oil drum. The sheer shock punched the air straight out of both drivers.

In a blind, flailing panic, Nassrena scrambled to spring backward, tangled her shins directly between Karina’s calves, and brought them both crashing down in a heap. Nassrena tried to crawl over Karina, slipped on loose gravel, kicked Karina in the hip, scrambled sideways, got caught in Karina’s pant leg, and tripped over her roughly eight times in a frantic flurry of elbows and knees.

By the time the dust cleared against a stack of spare rain tires, Karina was flat on her back, completely missing both of her slip-on shoes. Her Ayr scarf was snagged on an exposed cotter pin, ripped cleanly down the outer fringe, and her eyes were wide with sheer, murderous disbelief.

Ten or maybe twenty meters away, a thick cloud of spicy steam and gray smoke drifted out of the catering nook. A sheepish young Elizaran mechanic was sitting on the floor, covered in shredded aluminum, charred noodles, and scalding broth after attempting to boil five full bricks of instant ramen simultaneously on an unvented camping stove.

"Are you completely out of your fucking mind?!" Karina roared, hopping up onto one freezing bare foot and brandishing her shredded scarf like a war banner. "Five packs on a three-inch camping burner?! I nearly pissed myself in the dirt! If you blow up this garage before Sunday morning, I swear by the Triad I will throw you into the shipping channel!"

Nassrena, still sitting flat on her backside in the gravel, looked from the steaming, soup-splattered mechanic to Karina standing shoe-less and shaking with rage. A ragged gasp escaped her throat, followed instantly by a wave of wild, breathless, uncontrollable laughter. She fell back against the tires, wheezing and clutching her stomach, tears streaming down her face in pure, manic release.

Across the yard, Canzal came wheeling out of the command trailer like an incoming artillery shell, while Jeanne sprinted behind her brandishing a ten-pound foam extinguisher, both screaming rapid-fire Solisian commands to smother the burning burner before the Krasnovan naval base patrols or FIA marshals caught wind of the disaster.

Karina groaned, muttering a string of blistering Azynian curses as she retrieved her shoes and extended a hand down to Nassrena. Nassrena took it, still shaking with helpless giggles, the lingering ghost of grief thoroughly eclipsed by the chaotic warmth of the team around them.

RACE
KRASNOVA GP

FEDOROGRAD VELORING, VIKAR OF KRASNOVA

Image

Strong winds from the bay sweep through the track, forcing fans to bundle up in sweaters and thick jackets. It makes the already biting cold of the Krasnovan steppe that much worse. Our drivers are kept warm by their cars' engines, but they can feel the heavy gales work against them as they try to take corners. It will be a tricky race, requiring drivers to showcase every inch of skill and consistency.

The weekend's most exciting story is the rivalry between Jose Luiz Lopez and Arturia Nero. Lopez has a narrow two-point lead going into the race. Arturia has two consecutive poles to spirit her back into first place in the drivers' championship. Ror, farther behind, starts third and looks to disrupt the party up front. Lanto's Rouben Veurien once again put in another great quali, despite a car that sits toward the bottom of the mid-table. Can the Lanto driver pull off another miracle weekend? He certainly seems the man to do it. Alessandro Di Raffaele and Thomas Monteiro, starting fourth and fifth, respectively, will need to put up strong points to help their teams challenge Tango et Kartuma RMK in the constructors'. But the Beda Fromm-based manufacturer holds a commanding lead and will want to secure the title as soon as possible.

Kronenstahl Motors will be watching the race from home, after their ban from the Krasnovan likutat. They will seethe at the vanished opportunity to compete for that eighth position in the constructors', a fight that matters as it means millions of ríokmarks difference in prize money.

1. RP bonuses included through Solisia's.

2. Lunar Firestorm and Lanto Automotive upgrades inscribed.

WEEKEND WARMUP
NICARO GP

FEDORIA AUTODROMO DE VELOCIDAD, TERRITORY OF NICARO

Image

WELCOME TO THE NICARO GRAND PRIX, the penultimate race of the season and the last of the "Three Fedors" or "Fedor Three-peat."

Nicaro is a mysterious imperial constituent and is, in fact, composed of what were two different countries: Nicaro and Firmador. Like in Zarbia, native Nicaroans and Firmadorians speak Zarbian (OOC: Spanish), known in this part of the world as Nicaroan. It is known for its jungles, crime, corruption, and drugs. Many substances that are illegal elsewhere in the world are legal in most or parts of the empire, as is their production, and the empire inherited a colossal drug-growing, -synthesizing, and -manufacturing industry that now flourishes with the status of legality within the imperial legal system. Though one can buy just about anything, whether in some dingy strip club in Masaya or a luxurious Matagalpan nightclub, it's usually the tourists that bring the demand, with the bulk of the territory's recreational drug industry oriented toward exports. This significant economic sector of the territory is also one major reason there are so many Mokan nationals in this particular imperial constituent. This is all mostly in the northeast; the race takes us to the western shoreline along a large bay shared with Motokata and other neighbors.

The Autodromo de Velocidad is in Fedoria, formerly known as Chinadenga. The city has a certain mythology because it was occupied by local militants who specialized in piracy and who, partly through circumstance, involved themselves in a war the empire and its subjects know as the Gothic War. In any case, it was during this war that the pirates in Chinadenga were crushed. The original city, which had suffered extensive damage during the civil war and the Gothic War, was rebuilt with money from the Imperial Treasury and renamed Fedoria, after His Imperial Majesty Fedor I. It now serves as the capital of the Territory of Nicaro, which comprises both Nicaro and Firmador. Firmador remains a prefecture of the territory.

The Autodromo sits outside of the city, and Fedoria's skyline of majestic buildings built in the imperial style stands out on the horizon as the sun sets. And for now, Fedoria remains exactly that. A planned city, whose grids will be obvious to the casual observer, full of all of the accoutrements of imperial...promotion...including, but not limited to, the gubernatorial palace, an imperial palace, a Temple, a High Koert, triumphal arches (three — one for ejecting the Ordenites, one for ending the civil war, and one for the city's liberation), statues aplenty of past and current rulers, as well as the host of other monumental places of worship typical of a local imperial capital that inevitably attracts officials, other important people, and immigrants from nearby countries. The track sits just off the major highway that ultimately turns into the Kapes Triumfali, a broad boulevard that bisects the city, passes beneath all three triumphal arches, and is decorated with gardens, fountains, and statues. But for all of this imperial largesse, what stands out the most about Fedoria is its impressive naval base, which is also the city's most important source of economic revenue in terms of the jobs it attracts, and its role in stimulating economic growth among small and new businesses catering to sailors, soldiers, and the people employed in their service. Fedoria is a very new city, however, and its population remains small relative to the great metropolises seen elsewhere thus far in this championship; much of it is still demolished and yet to be rebuilt.

But from the Autodromo, the sunset skyline is beautiful, as we said, and the race is expected to be another speed-track. Jose Luiz Lopez, who took the lead in the drivers' championship at the Zarbia GP, was able to extend it further in Fedorograd. But the gap against Arturia Nero remains slight and, barring disaster for the CAMDEN NEXT team, the championship will very likely take us all the way to Berliston. Ror Rakken, however, has been practically disqualified, as he requires Jose Luiz Lopez to earn effectively zero points over the next two races while winning both himself.

Tango et Kartuma RMK has an opportunity to seal the constructors' at the Autodromo de Velocida if the gap against CAMDEN NEXT doesn't close by more than 16 points, or 18 with a theoretical fastest lap point for one of the CAMDEN cars in the next two races. We'd count Cooper Motors out if it wasn't for the fact that they are a rocket ship, but they are at the edge of missing out on the title. Even that is remarkable given the team's late entrance.

Still, all constructors will want to vie with each other for points, as a team's ultimate result in the championship will determine performance points for rankings (probably measured in prize money).

ATTENTION: RP cutoff date for the qualifying session is 8/29 08:00 PST. RPs after race results but before this post count.

Key Details

54 laps; 5.9km lap.

  • Track Type: Power-focused circuit with extended straight and technical braking complexes
  • Rewards: Top speed, braking performance, traction out of slow corners, acceleration efficiency
  • Punishes: High drag setups, weak braking stability, poor traction on exits, hesitation in stop-start sections
  • Overtaking: High; multiple strong opportunities into heavy braking zones following long straights
  • Tire Factor: Medium — heavy traction zones stress rears, but long straights allow recovery
  • Setup Bias: Low drag, strong braking platform, stable rear under acceleration
  • Qualifying Importance: Medium — overtaking is frequent, reducing dependency on starting position
  • Safety Car Likelihood: Low–Medium — open layout reduces clustering, but braking zones create risk
  • Time Profile: Dominated by straight-line speed and braking zones; large gains from acceleration and exit phases
  • Driver Bias: Skill > Qualifying Bias > Consistency > Tire Management > Aggression
  • Race Character: Aggressive and opportunity-rich; position changes driven by braking duels and exit performance
  • Notable Traits: Long main straight and final sector braking complex define overtaking and lap time

"We're dropping team orders," said Igalo. He waited for a moment to see if there were any reactions. There weren't. "The team feels that now that Ror is no longer eligible for the championship, these final two races are all about the team. That means no team orders favoring our number one driver. Of course, we'll revisit next season." With that, the technical director moved on to other matters.

Ror wasn't entirely surprised. Viting was doing great. The kid was already eighth in the drivers' championship, with only a handful of races under his belt. And there really wasn't much at stake for Ror anymore. They wanted to give the golden boy a chance to compete on equal terms with Ror, using these last two weekends as data to determine who they'd put their weight behind for the next season. So Ror took it with grace and, beyond the lack of surprise, didn't think about it too much.

With the championship winding down, and with him out of contention, the truth was that he felt more homesick than ever. Meli and Bianka were coming to neither Fedoria nor Berliston, with Bianka back in school and all.

Despite it all, Ror steeled himself to keep it professional. After the team discussed telemetry, progress on next season's car, strategy for the practice sessions, qualifying, the race, and a host of other topics, Ror went for his session with Dr. Mers, his mental performance coach, who had flown out to Nicaro earlier in the week. She seemed much livelier than her usual self, which Ror quite enjoyed. Apparently, she was having a good time in Nicaro. He couldn't blame her, and though it undercut the whole 'professionalism' bit in his mental preparation, Ror was happy for the doctor. Afterward, he went to the gym before going back to his hotel suite for the nightly routine: talk to the wife and daughter, get himself ready for bed, and sleep. Tomorrow would be an early-rising day for the Friday practice session.

Rumors of the changed team orders reached the gaggle of journalists and press officers who'd flock to Fedoria, just as they did every city touched by the F1 championship. Many of those people were from other countries, covering other drivers, breaking other news stories; but for those reaching domestic audiences, it was the story of Ror Rakken's "demotion" that spread like fire in the wind. It was common knowledge by the time he went to sleep. The first blogs, unconfirmed Accelafeed posts, and backroom chat lobby messages started circulating even before then.

The very next morning, as soon as he entered through the front gate, Viting Horsele was pulled to the side for a press interview. "You must be happy going into this weekend, Viting! Only a handful of races in, and you've already been promoted."

Viting awkwardly scratched the back of his head. "Well, it's just for a couple of weekends. It was important to support Ror in any way possible while he still had a chance for the championship. Now that it seems to be a two-horse race, the team wants to experiment. Ultimately, it's no longer about maximizing Ror's points. Now it's all about the team. And, really, all I'm thinking about is how to finish as high as possible at quali day and score as many points as possible on race day. I'm not really thinking about anything else."

"What about the next season," pressed the reporter. "Do you think Tango will restore Ror's number one status?"

Making an uncomfortable face, Viting reluctantly replied, "To be honest, I don't know. The team will back whoever can win the championship. This season it was Ror; next season I hope it'll be me."

"Do you think it'd be different had you started the season in the Tango seat, instead of Marko?" she followed.

He shrugged. "You can never know those things for sure. Best not to think about it and focus what's in your control."

"Very well," the reporter said, smiling. "Thank you, Viting! We'll hope to catch you later."

He gave a shallow nod of half-commitment. "Of course." Then he walked away, trying (but failing) to avoid the other press reps, anxiously stalking the paddock for drama, while making his way to the Tango et Kartuma RMK garage.

Cooper Motors paddock, after qualifying:

Trevor, Melissa, Graham, Jose Luis and Alessandro were all gathered around a screen showing the current Constructor’s Championship standings.

“How are we only 3rd?” asked Trevor.

“Because you forgot to file the bloody paperwork on time.” snapped Melissa.

“It’s because Alessandro’s a rubbish driver.” said Graham.

“Does it matter whose fault it is?” asked Jose Luis.

“That’s easy for you to say, you’re winning the Driver’s Championship.” said Alessandro, crossing his arms.

“It’s not about me. When one of us wins, we all win.” responded Jose Luis.

Those last words stuck with Alessandro. As the rest of the team dispersed to descend on Evan’s coffee run like ravenous vultures, he kept staring at the leaderboard. As Alessandro left to go to his room, he kept thinking about what Jose Luis said, not just about the team, but about everything. As the season came to a close, he wondered if maybe there was more truth to Jose Luis’ words than Alessandro would care to admit.

RACE
NICARO GP

FEDORIA AUTODROMO DE VELOCIDAD, TERRITORY OF NICARO

Image

Viting Horsele disrupts the drivers' championship fight by taking pole position at Fedoria's Autodromo de Velocidad. Can the young driver convert pole into a win? He will have Jose Luiz Lopez next to him on the starting line, looking to take the lead early and run with it. Arturia Nero, the other contender, starts fifth and will have to pass Ror Rakken and Rouben Veurien to catch up to her title fight rival.

Rain, a constant mist really, falls on the track, but it is tame compared to the deluge of Fedorogoda. The sun's rays break through a sky full of light gray clouds, helping to evaporate some of the water collecting on the asphalt.

Fans cheer, shout, and even scream when their favorite cars and drivers pass them by on the circuit below. Over 200,000 people have come to attend race day at Fedoria. Many watch from the seemingly countless grandstands flanking either side of the track down its length, but many more watch from the grass and other free-standing viewing areas. As many as possible press up against the fencing separating them and the road, some so close that the fence's metal wiring leaves red imprints on their faces. But they don't care, and neither do they seem to pay attention to the raindrops falling on them, because below them our 24 racing pilots weave from one side of the track to the other as they complete the formation lap. They are desperate to put any temperature at all into their tires, despite the humidity.

With just one more race left, will Jose Luiz Lopez claim the title at Fedoria, or can Arturia Nero stretch the fight all the way to the end?

Another Podium for Rouben and the team is still holding steady in fifth place in the constructor standing. The debate now is how to get the season wrapped up. Film is the key as the celebrations of Third died down, the corporate representatives have taken a hands off approach to the team operations with the discussion being animated in the hotel rooms and the trailers which are a sight as the technicians brief drivers on the film. One race is over, Teammates shake hands and now its into the next race.

After the race
A hotel in Nicario

Arturia tied her hair back in a ponytail and pulled her black beanie down over the top of her head. She didn’t want to give any interviews, but there was the reporter, waiting on the pavement outside the hotel. She wasn’t in the mood for it. She was just upset. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Life was unfair. Once again, she’d been so close, and it had all fallen apart at the end…

Of course, she knew she was partly to blame too… The poor results had made the situation much more difficult. She knew she should have put in even more effort, gathered more data, gone a little deeper with every lap. Well, but it was too late now.

She put Zeta, the little kitten she’d rescued from the streets of Zarbia—now much cleaner and healthier—inside the mesh bag and zipped it shut. The little one lay lazily on her paws, silently watching her new guardian get ready.

“Well… what choice do we have?” Arturia said to himself, picking up the tablet from the counter and asking room service for a luggage trolley.

Moments later, in the lobby.

“So, Arturia? What are your expectations for the final race? Still hoping for victory, or have you thrown in the towel?”

“Well, my contract runs until the next race, and my sponsors at Saber Ironworks expect me to go into every race aiming for victory...”

“I see, that’s the answer I expected… And how do you rate this season? Does letting the championship slip away at the end leave a bitter taste in your mouth, or are you happy with the result?”

“Look, by my calculations… as well as my contract paid by Saber, I should receive a bonus from Camden… plus a prize from the federation of 2,500 Lis for each point… 2,500 times 207, plus the points I’ll score in the next race… converting that to dollars… minus tax… well… let’s just say I’ll be a millionaire by the age of twenty-three; if not, I’ll be very close to it… It makes no sense at all for me to be sad. I’m a professional, and I give it my all. If it isn’t enough, it’s back to the preparation phase to try again next year. It's just one among twenty-four that can win, and if I had time to waste by ruminating this, it would be better used in training instead”

“And what about the WGP2 – what are your thoughts? Several teams from this F1C series are preparing to compete in WGP2. No teams or drivers from Lisander have been confirmed yet. Are you planning to try for a place?"

“Heaven forbid, not a chance. My kitten needs to be spayed and I need a vacation. If WGP2 wants to see me, let them come and visit me at home, while I rest peacefully..."
The Principality of Lisander, a sports loving, very highly developed nation in Astyria.

WEEKEND WARMUP
NEW EMPIRE GP

BERLISTON SPEED TUNNELS, SATRAPY OF NEW EMPIRE

Image

WELCOME TO THE NEW EMPIRE GRAND PRIX, the final and, perhaps, most iconic race of the Forzala 1 schedule.

There will be no rain and no shine this weekend, as the race takes place entirely underground.

'Til the most recent decade, for more than 40 years, New Empire has only built its cities in one direction: down. Why? Nuclear war. Also known as the United City States, the city-states haven't always been so united. This was the case during a civil war fought in the 1970s and 80s, which saw the widespread use of nuclear weapons on the surface, leading populations to seek safety in depth (literally). Since New Empire entered the imperial federation in M.C. 2026, a long period of peace and prosperity has made possible the resurgence of humankind on the surface once again (OOC: very rose-tinted propaganda). Indeed, the satrapy is notable for hosting 700 million refugees of the zenitharian faith in the east (if you remember the race weekends in Fedoroville, Fedorogoda, Fedorograd, and Fedoria, in eastern New Empire there is the new city of Fedorobad).

Berliston serves as New Empire's capital city. It has always held that status, at least when there has been a central government to speak of. But even when the United City States were disunited, Berliston always seems to stand head and shoulders above the rest. It is, despite being wholly subterranean, a classical city in almost every sense: well-ordered, excellent infrastructure, and a myriad of cultures, foods, and experiences appropriate to a major metropolis. Fans traveling from overseas will enjoy themselves here. Most of them will at some point undoubtedly eat at a restaurant, shop at a boutique store, or just take a stroll along the riverwalk. An underground river walk. Berliston has many rivers, and even lakes, all subterranean, that are controlled by the city's Water Management Bureau, which manages the infrastructure designed to contain, channel, and confine underground water flows. The largest is the Greenbrier, which cuts through the middle of Berliston along what is known as the Greenbrier River Canyon, and is lined by caverns and pathways open to locals and tourists alike, and full of all sorts of businesses and things to do.

Getting around Berliston is easy. Neighborhoods are organized into very compact and efficient blocks, which form larger groups known as levels. Berliston is composed of 115 levels, including maintenance and infrastructural layers. The track sits at Level 8, one of the levels through which the Greenbrier River Canyon cuts through. One of its sides actually runs parallel to the Greenbrier and the Riverwalk, connected to restaurant patios that offer guests a direct view of the race. Another sight to behold is the structural pillar around which the track wraps between turns 10 and 12. The colossal structure holds up Level 7. Drivers will find overtaking opportunities here.

Most spectators will watch from seating galleries carved into the walls surrounding the track. Additional private galleries are located just above. They sit directly over the action, but can see up and down the length of the particular track segment. Both viewing areas are separated from the action by just several explosion-proof glass-composite panels.

But do not be misled. There is little space in the Berliston Speed Tunnels. The walls, thick steel composite contraptions that separate you from an indescribably hot earth, are tight. Fans will have little headspace, so little that the tallest customers may prefer the lowest seats. Do not be alarmed; all galleries are temperature-controlled thanks to the city's ample cooling infrastructure. Heat produced by the cars and the race is also contained to the track, meaning the drivers will be pushed to the limits of their comfort. They face these conditions on a circuit that does not excuse mistakes. The tunnels are well-lit, but their narrow confines make visibility low. Corners come fast, and some can be quite technical, requiring racers to be always aware. Of course, the Speed Tunnels also have the longest total strength segments of the entire championship, and so each car will be navigating this obstacle course at the highest possible speeds.

Tango et Kartuma may be celebrating the constructors' title, but the prestigious drivers' championship remains to be crowned. The fight is between Jose Luiz Lopez and Arturia Nero. Nero's hopes have been dimmed by a growing gap to her rival, but as long as there are chances, Nero will fight for them. Furthermore, low visibility, quick turns, and an accumulating spark fog all mean that a collision can change everything.

What is a spark fog?

Berliston is a very high downforce track, and constructors will want their cars as close to the ground as possible. As the floors bump against the asphalt, it will create sparks. Although the air pressure within the Speed Tunnels is managed for the safety of the drivers and the team staff, it is nevertheless a lower-pressure environment than what the spectators are experiencing. The sparks in Berliston take longer to dissipate, creating a vortex behind the cars that resembles a comet. Ultimately, the hot metal will rise up and cling to the bedrock and glass-composite ceiling, as if stroked by orange and purple fire.

The air pressure also means that dirty air is much more destabilizing than usual. Drivers will need to showcase their skill to maintain stability while overtaking.

Teams are required to provide drivers with barometric-equalizing helmets and polarised HUD visors. If the teams cannot provide them, F1A will supply the equipment through our local partner, Ray-Null.

ATTENTION: RP cutoff date for the qualifying session is 9/5 08:00 PST. RPs after race results but before this post count.

Key Details

115 laps; 2.7km lap.

  • Track Type: Ultra-fast tunnel circuit with extended full-throttle sections and high-speed transitions
  • Rewards: Top speed, aero efficiency, high-speed stability, commitment in fast corners, precision at extreme speeds
  • Punishes: Drag-heavy setups, instability at high speed, hesitation in fast transitions, braking errors under pressure
  • Overtaking: High; major opportunities into heavy braking zones at the end of long tunnel straights
  • Tire Factor: Medium–High — sustained high-speed load and limited cooling increase wear
  • Setup Bias: Very low drag, stable high-speed platform, strong braking stability
  • Qualifying Importance: Medium — overtaking is viable, but starting forward reduces risk in confined high-speed sections
  • Safety Car Likelihood: Very High — confined environment, limited runoff, and extreme speeds amplify incident severity
  • Time Profile: Dominated by full-throttle time and high-speed commitment; large gains from top speed and minimal lift
  • Driver Bias: Skill > Qualifying Bias > Consistency > Tire Management > Aggression
  • Race Character: Intense and high-risk; small mistakes have immediate and severe consequences
  • Notable Traits: One of the fastest circuits on the calendar; tunnel environment magnifies speed and risk simultaneously

THANK YOU to all participations participants in this inaugural Forzala 1 season.

It has honestly been very stimulating to run this tournament because it has motivated me to flesh out the mechanics of the scorinator even further than the updates I shared earlier. And it was useful to get "real-world" data on how players would go about building their cars. I didn't quite know how people would think about distributing their points across cars and drivers.

I'm going to nerd out a bit, because I've really enjoyed the testing work. If you don't care about the mechanics, you can skip.

Earlier in the season, I worked on a rally car scorinator, and because I had no plans to try running rally without learning from this experience first, I also had a lot of time to run simulations. As my mechanics-stress-testing became more sophisticated, I started running thousands of mechanical simulations of the Forzala scorinator using this season's car and driver setups. I think the first 10,000-season run took something like 12 hours total. The results show that a certain car and driver setup does particularly well, and I wanted to know what that looked like over 10,000 seasons. More importantly, I wanted to learn about why the results over 10,000 simulated seasons happened. I started measuring things like average gap between p1 and p2, the share of constructors that win championships, likewise with drivers, the gap between points in championships, but also things like the marginal benefit of moving a point across a category for either drivers or cars.

Ultimately, I also went back to first principles to ground the mechanics in my core philosophy behind the scorinator. Those principles are that the game must support (a) multiple equilibria and championship compression, (b) randomness guided by race-grounded mechanics, (c) effective trade-offs between point categories. I also wanted to make the races closer, compressing the gaps between cars. Whereas this season's scorinator prefers a certain meta, that is no longer the case.

I also want Forzala to have its own identity. This includes the point system. The race points are likely to remain the same, unless the number of teams increases. But I measured the frequency of different race events and analyzed them by pack-block (totally made that term up; I mean the front car pack, mid car pack, rear car pack). I found one event in particular was especially frequent among the cars further back in the field. A tiered-point system to reward this event will be introduced next season. A single point will be awarded for this the obverse event.

More significantly, I learned a lot about how sets of variables interact with each other. I found the largest source of imbalance to be here. So the reliability and energy mechanics have been reworked and statistically tested multiple times, in the spirit of first principles (a). Aggression likewise has been reworked, so that there's a price to not investing in it. The passing mechanics have also been reworked and tested. This was actually a very long process, as a pass in this scorinator can happen for multiple reasons. So I collected telemetry data to understand how many passes happened and for what reason. The balance between pace and attack mechanics has been radically improved. Another thing I've tested is category minimums and/or maximums, meaning you can only invest so much or so little, and I have found the optimal maximum. I'm currently running a 2,000-season A/B test to see the converged data and verify a 200-season run that validated it as a compression mechanism.

Excitingly, this season also served to help me nail down the tracks and their particular vibe. This both from the perspective of the setting, but also the experience that I had originally envisioned for the track. The scorinator used for this first season did not do a good job at that. The track attributes have new mapping mechanics that produce much more unique and differentiated results between tracks, to better fit their intended character. One interesting track getting a change is this one, Berliston. In the current scorinator, there is no weather type for "tunnel." So I put it down as sunny. But weather can have a significant impact on outcomes, and it turns out that Berliston's attrition rate is not as high as what's intended (given it has the highest attrition score). Now there is a tunnel weather type to simulate the aerodynamics of a race in a tunnel. Another effect has been to increase the diversity of car and driver performance across track and weather types, so that different constructors and drivers have unique track-fit identities. What this also means is that a driver that wins one race could be mid the next one and at the bottom in the third one, going by track fit alone.

A few key stats from the most recent scorinator testing; these are specific to the 2,000-season variant run:

In the updated scorinator, 100% of teams win a constructors' (even Neon!), 23/24 drivers win a drivers', 100 percent of drivers win races, the constructors' and drivers' tables are much more compressed, as is lap time dispersion. The cars will be closer together next season, and there will be greater variety in outcomes. The updated point system will also allow for race-based achievements outside of P1.

DNF rates are going up to that average standard I had been looking for, but the improved track mapping also means the DNF rate is truly sensitive to the track's energy and attritional demands. Similarly, some drivers have DNF rates as low as 6%, while others might exceed 15%, and it also depends on the car. The role of weather in DNF rates has become more meaningful (weather is a category that I distribute out ahead of the season, revealing it week-to-week; the weather distribution is re-done every season, manually). Some other interesting DNF facts include the largest DNF category being "mechanical failure" with 32,021 instances total across 576K starts; 5,195 brake failures; and disappointingly only 40 "major restart incidents" (0.06% probability each race). I'm going to have to test my way into bumping that one up.

Just as importantly, the scorinator retains the concept of good and bad builds. It retains the gradient in between. Not all cars are good cars, nor should they be.

What I've achieved, as shown in the data, is a balance between car-driver inequalities and making sure the results are not lopsided. The trade-off between points is now much more balanced. So hoping y'all give it another shot next time!

Oh yeah, probably fewer races, cutting the length of the season at least in half in terms of RL weeks elapsed. That means cutting the amount of RPing in half, making this tournament less taxing on the player.

Thank you!

Cooper Motors paddock, after qualifying:

Trevor stood at the end of the room and cleared his throat. “AHEM!” The entire paddock turned their heads to look at him. “I just wanted to say that no matter what happens tomorrow, I am proud of each and every single one of you. Seriously. At the start of our season, nobody thought we could do anything. But look at us now! Contenders! But more than that, we’re a family, and we did this together, all of us!”

“YEAH!”

“Whooo!”

As cheers and applause broke out in the paddock, Heather walked over to Alessandro.

“How you feeling?”

“Excited. Nervous. Ready,” he answered.

Jose Luis walked up to the two, and Heather turned towards him.

“Jose, hoe do you feel about Alessandro qualifying way higher than you?”

“I don’t mind. When one of us wins, we all win.” He said authoritatively.

“Yeah, but Arturia Nero qualified first, if she finishes ahead of you, she’ll win the Driver’s Championship.” said Heather.

Alessandro turned to look at her. Jose Luis was unbothered.

“Anything can happen in a race,” responded Jose Luis.

At that, he went to go check something and left Heather and Alessandro talking.

“You qualified P3. That’s pretty good,” she said.

“I’ve qualified higher before, and I’ve finished lower. But I think this time, I can win. I can feel it.”

“But are you ready?”

“Hell yes.”

"So, anything to lose?" Thomas asked.

"Not at all, we already lost." Arturia grinned.

"Will you actually pull that?"

"Do you doubt me?"

"You could be fired."

"I will be. Then they will recontract me, they always do. Or I could be champion. Well, probably not, however, let's have fun, baby."

She sneaked the music player inside the cockpit, sticking it with gaffer tape and pulled out a small cable with different plugs. "Now this goes here... this goes there... this goes to the radio button... and here we go. Double audio source. God bless the Queensguard. Well, it's time to race. I have at least 44 minutes of music to ride."

She wore her helmet just like it was a crown. She entered the cockpit holding the chuckles, that he just hidden because he was wearing his balaclava already. When the green lights appeared and the screen indicated it was time to take the car to the grid, she turned on the engine, and automatically, the radio. With the music she needed to hear.

I want it all
I want it all
I want it all
and I want it now!

Thomas had just entered the car when his own frequency was invaded by the song. He could only hear the sound of her car throttling on the cockpit. The bothered comments of team members scared by the sudden music were background noise. It was time to follow her. They had a season to wrap, and they were set to start on the honour row together for a last time.

RACE
NEW EMPIRE GP

BERLISTON SPEED TUNNELS, SATRAPY OF NEW EMPIRE

Image

(OOC. Thank you for your patience. Been watching the Monza replay! I hit the Russell-Antonelli battle right as I was doing the prize money.)

Two drivers, 23 points apart, will race for the drivers' championship today. CAMDEN NEXT's Arturia Nero and Cooper Motors' Jose Luiz Lopez.

Their lead in the drivers' championship is on merit. In the fight for pole positions, in 16 qualifying sessions, Nero has secured a pole five times and Lopez four. The only other driver to have secured more than one pole is Ror Rakken. Di Raffaele, Darjis, Monraksha, Blaatschapen, and Horsele earned a single pole each. It's race wins where Lopez is truly scary. The driver has won seven races this season, the most of any other driver. In fact, Nero and Rakken are next with two wins each. Darjis, Meya, Veurien, and Horsele have each won one race each.

But as favorite as Cooper Motors' Lopez may be, he starts the race today in ninth, after a disappointing quali. His teammate, Di Raffaele starts in third, on the second row. CAMDEN NEXT locks out the front row, Nero earning her fifth pole position of the championship and Monteiro behind her. Valle Zuma F1 showcase their best qualifying of the season, with both cars in the top ten! Emilio Blanco starts in fourth, Santi Balenciago in tenth. Rakken completes the third row in fifth. Klasen and Salarzai sit behind. Klasen will want to score big points to help his team leapfrog Kronenstahl Motors in the prize money ranking. Unfortunately, Ekklesson's talented Marko Meya had a bad day and will be starting the race from 19th. Lunar Firestorm, on the other hand, seeks double points, with Karina Monraksha in eighth. They will want to make the jump on Team Sasha, which has no representation in the starting top ten. Kamila Saidova is in 12th and Basiv Darjis, a one-time championship contender, in 20th. Amber Astota (2), starting just outside the points, in 11th, has one more chance to score her team points for the season.

Sparks already spiral in a vortex behind the cars, which for now are relatively slow-moving in this formation lap. Behind them, they slowly rise to the glass- and steel-encased rock ceilings. Tens of thousands of eyes fall upon them from either side and even from up top, where the wealthier fans look down on the track from their luxury boxes. The sound system projects the screaming, shouting, and celebrating of the fans, the noise of which would otherwise be smothered by the thick walls and the explosive-proof glass-composite. These windows have some condensation from the automated cleaning system, that periodically wipes them from the accumulating rubber particles and other rubbish that gravitates to the edges of the tunnel. There is little light, except the track lighting that gives the drivers just enough visibility to navigate the tunnel circuit. But the walls are close, and the corners come fast, making the Speed Tunnels the most dangerous race of the Forzala 1 Imperial Championship.

Without fuss, the cars take up their positions on the grid. Nero's nerves must be through the roof, reaching the surface! Lopez must not feel much better, knowing how much ground he has to make up. Both know that a single mistake could dash their title dreams forever.

Congratulations to our drivers' champion JOSE LUIZ LOPEZ and our constructors' champion TANGO ET KARTUMA RMK.

All of our drivers and cars are treated to a pompous celebration parade down the Greenbrier River. Fans jump, shout, and wave from the Riverwalk viewing ports and balconies above, carved into the steel-walled bedrock. As Lopez' and Tango's achievements are celebrated, the prize money is tallied. All constructors claim earnings, based on 50 percent of all revenues earned throughout the season. (OOC: Seasons earnings are equal to 100 million ríokmark per player, in this season's case 11, as Ekklesson was an NPC. Ríokmark convert to roughly 2.55 NSD on average.)

50 percent of the prize money is distributed equally amongst all teams, 35 percent is distributed based on finishing position in the constructors', and 15 percent is determined by share of constructors' championship points.

Amounts in millions. Exchange rate: Ŗ1 = NSD2.55.

Cooper Motors paddock, right after the race:

“YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“WE DID IT!”

“HOLY SHIT!”

The entire paddock went apeshit. People tossed papers in the air, people were jumping up and down like crazy, and everybody was hugging everybody. As the whole tram rushed out of the paddock, Trevor couldn’t beleive his luck. He bumped into some guy from another team and shook his hand before the team swept him up as they covnerged on the podium.

Alessandro climbed out his car, and made his way over to where Jose Luis had parked.

“Congratulations, old man.”

Gracias, mijo” said Jose Luis, puling his protege in for a bro hug. The team swarmed them and one by one, and eventually all at once gave Jose Luis a hug.

“YEEEAAAAAAAAH!”

As Jose Luis was on the podium, lifting the Driver’s Champion trophy, he kissed his wife Maria, and lifted his young sons Patricio and Sergio on his shoulders.

Trevor motioned for the PA guy to play a song, and once it reached the chorus, the entire team joined in.

“WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!” Alessandro, Heather and Kowalski belted out as they swayed side to side.

“WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!” Ronny, Mila, and the pit crew belted out, waving their arms victoriously.

“WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!” Trevor and Melissa belted out, running towards the podium.

“NO TIME FOR LOSERS, CAUSE WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!” Graham shrugged and sang out, waving his arms.

“OF THE WOOOOOOOOOOORLD!” shouted Jose Luis, Maria, Sergio and Patricio on the podium, lifting the Driver’s Championship trophy together.

The season is over. One can count the Alien Enviroment. The Golden Thrones constructs are a thing which are quiet impressive and speeding through an urban highway tunnel os something which according to the driverx was quite impressive. When they were shown in the statements in the Brieifing were quite impressed with the ability. The Empire of Archinia has not been able to marshal forces for a lot of the construction of such things. Nor has archinia due to its isolation had rhe need.
When one is underground racing past the blast steel and windows it is a thing that shows the Archinian Empire is somewhat far behind. One could say that in adequacy is something which is a thing that doesn’t bode well for athletes as we haven’t Nuked our selves but well it shows wr arent a power to be reckoned with. A big fish jn a small pond. But we put ourselves out here with two cultural ambassadors you have the formation of sometbing good. We had tech. And that is the first and Oh Right. We have colonies. I forgot about those.
