And I am about 90% sure there is an age requirement for Rping on the forums... although maybe that only applies to general now. I haven't followed that closely.

All of NS is pg-13, I think.

Would you all find it less confusing if I started an actual sign up thread, and we used this thread for just general stuff?

Osmalad Rusegne, Chessmaster of Karlada and former Ayalis world champion, retired from professional chess after the last tournament. However, he was pressured by the Karladal chess community to return for the tournament once again, as he is still the best we have. His style hasn't changed, nor his age.

Boralz Skrapinapavotla, still in exile, will nevertheless represent the Russi Empire at the chess tournament once again.

I say yes. Don't just make a signup thread, though. Make a signup/IC everything thread for the 2nd ITC. This thread should be used for OOC discussion - since that's what it's degenerated into anyways - and other general-purpose uses.

If we don't make an even number, rather than forcing Rainious to sit on the side line, we'll just wait til it's an even number of players, and the roleplay thread will still appear (though no groupings).

Thanks for catching that. I think because you had an extra tie-breaking match in the quarterfinals, I assumed the loss would bring your rank down farther than it did. Sorry 'bout the mistake. Sam byrrn should be in 6th, and Osmald in 7th. The ranking points are correct, however.

Don't clutter the forum with another thread. Just use the current signup thread. For small tournaments, there's no reason to waste more server space with multiple threads. Be considerate.

As we have 14 players, there will be 6 groups, A - F. Two of these groups, E and F, will be three people. The winner of group A - D will automatically progress to the next round of the tournament. The two best players from groups E and F will progress to the next round, which will leave us with 8 players - perfect for a quarterfinal. The group stage will begin on Feb 2nd, and end on Feb 5th.

The quarterfinal will be as follows:

QF 1) Group A 1st Place v. Group D 2nd Place
QF 2) Group A 2nd Place v. Group D 1st Place
QF 3) Group B 1st Place v. Group C 2nd Place
QF 4) Group B 2nd Place v. Group C 1st Place

These will consist of 5 games, and take one day.

The semifinals will be as follows:

SF 1) Winner QF 1 v. Winner QF 4
SF 2) Winner QF 2 v. Winner QF 3

These will consist of 5 games, and take one day.

The finals will be as follows (with a game for 3rd place):

Final: Winner SF 1 v. Winner SF 2
3PPO: Looser SF 1 v. Looser SF 2

The final will consist of 7 games, and take one day.

By that, I meant that results would be given on the 2nd, and people would have 3 days to post before I moved onto the next round.

I'm sorry about the groupings - 14 was an annoying number. Better than 13, but much worse than 15. Ultimately, the reason I've done groupings like this was because I wanted/needed 8 quarter-finalists. I was stuck with either making 4 groups of 3 and a group of 2, (but that would give me 9 quarter finalists), or making everyone a group of 2 (which would leave me with 7). Either scenario wasn't ideal, but I tried to make the groupings of 2 as fair as possible.

Another idea I had was to make all 14 players play each other 3 times, and then pick the top 8, however, I could have just used the ranking table for that. Either way, 14 is a difficult number to put into 3s.

I found it interesting how both semifinalists got 3 - 2 - 2. I think that the RP bonus is playing quite strongly, especially for you and Boralz (whom I've given the strongest RP bonus to each time).

With that in mind, I'll leave another day for Antoine and Boralz to RP, then I'll finalise the tournament. At this stage, that last RP could give the tournament to either side.
