As the regular season of college hockey comes to a close, UVU and U of U seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum. UVU is set for relegation while U of U are topping D1. This season has been a rollercoaster for both teams and now that it's coming to an end, we can look back at all the highs and lows that these teams have experienced.

Utah University: The Utah University hockey team has had an impressive season, with a record that speaks for itself. And now, with the playoffs on the horizon, the question remains: will they be able to keep up their winning streak? Their recent performance certainly gives us hope that this might be possible. With their strong defensive play and offensive power, the University of Utah is looking to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Weber State University: Fans of Weber State Hockey have been waiting a long time for their team to make it to the playoffs. After years of being stuck between relegation and promotion, the team has finally done better than expected, and hopes are high for the playoff season. With their hard work and dedication, Weber State is sure to make an impression in this year's playoffs. Players and coaches alike have worked hard to prepare for the upcoming competition, and they are ready to give it their all on game day. The support from fans is what's going to motivate them even further as they look ahead towards playoffs. It's going to be an exciting season, and everyone is hoping that Weber State will come out with great results!

Utah State University: Utah State Hockey has been a fixture in the playoffs for several years now, but their track record in the postseason is far from exemplary. Despite making the playoffs every year, they have consistently failed to make it past the first round. This season, however, looks different. With a strong roster of senior players and freshmen talent, they are looking to make a serious run at the championship title.

This team has never been afraid of challenges and with their determination and hard work, they are proving that nothing is impossible when you put your mind to it. As the playoffs approach, Utah State Hockey looks poised to finally break through and make some noise on the playoff stage. Will BYU be a challange to them or will they be stuck with their past demons?

BYU Ice Miners: The D1 College playoffs have been a time-honored tradition in college hockey, and for the last few years, BYU Hockey has been at the top of the group. However, this season has seen seniors being recruited to other teams, leaving BYU Hockey facing an uncertain future. With their usual talent pool now dispersed throughout other teams, it remains to be seen how BYU Hockey will fare in this year's playoffs.

Long after the home crowd had gone home dejected, forty-five minutes after the last teammate had left, thirty minutes after the last coach had left the grounds, and fifteen minutes the last stadium staff had reminded her the instructions on how to close up, Liana Anderson stood at the middle of the field, reliving the last thirty seconds of the game.

To say that the game had been a disappointment would be an understatement. Seamus O'Connell, the Bulls' Quarterback, had found his three receivers for easy touchdowns in the first half as the Lava struggled with the spread offense that Frisdrank utilized. Ever since the initial season of Felswyr State, Horizon hadn't run into a true spread offense; the newcomers from New Tryland were happy enough to be the ones to reintroduce the trend.

Haruno Masakazu, the starting Quarterback for the Lava that had thrown two pick-sixes to Felswyr State, went down hard in the middle of the Second Quarter while leading the Lava's only touchdown drive of the game at the time. He had to be helped to the sidelines by Gabriele Ziegler; at halftime, it was determined that he had a cracked rib, and the game was Lana Anderson's to run. The Lava faithful had hope, as Anderson had proven from time to time again that she was a decent alternate to Masakazu; however, they didn't have the whole story.

Liana Anderson had had offseason surgery on her throwing arm. In spring training, it wasn't even a question on who would be the team's starting Quarterback. Just recently, she had managed to be fairly accurate with passes under forty yards, and highly erratic beyond that. Sure, a major part of the Junior's game was her mobility, but could the Lava come back from fourteen points down with a Quarterback that only had half an arm?

In the second half, the Lava defense started to really clamp down. Three times, Anderson maneuvered the Lava to the Bulls' thirty; all three times, they were promptly shut down, leading to three field goals by James Dior.

However, when Staramara Tech got the ball at their own thirty-seven with a minute and three seconds left and two timeouts, all would be forgiven and Anderson declared a hero if she could lead them down the field for the winning score.

It all started with a seven-yard run by Duhaga, then a screen pass to Ziegler for an easy first down at the Lava 41 with fifty-two seconds left. They were starting to run out of time. A screen pass to Jacoby Grinner resulted in nine yards, and the Lava were at midfield with forty-three seconds to go - resulting in a timeout.

Laverna Getz had to choose between three. The first, a starter with a cracked rib. The second, the best backup, but with a subpar elbow. The third, a Junior that had never started a game for the Lava, Amerique Qarinne - but Qarinne was also someone who didn't really do well throwing the ball.

They chose Anderson.

Twice, she tried to throw the ball for more than ten yards. Both times, the passes were frustratingly short, and she was lucky to not have them intercepted.

On third down, a screen pass to Ziegler resulted in eight yards, and the Senior was able to take the ball out of bounds with thirty-two seconds left and the ball at the Bulls' 41.

Fourth-and-one. Anderson took the ball on a keeper and got the first down, but was tackled just short of the sidelines, forcing the Lava to use their last timeout.

Thirty-seven yards. Twenty-seven seconds. One bum arm.

They really couldn't call much. Screen passes and short outs were all that the Lava could do, and the Bulls knew it.

On fourth-and-four from the thirty-one yard line, Anderson decided to make one last try at a long pass. The line kept everyone at bay, creating a clean pocket. She found Jacoby Grinner down the left sideline, getting by his mark.

As the ball left her hand, she winched as her elbow popped.

It traveled through the air through the crisp Staramara night...

Just to hit the ground a foot in front of a wide-open Jacoby Grinner.

Game over. Staramara Tech had lost their second in a row, and this one against a brand new team to the NSCF.

Now, as she stared at her arm in a brace - thankfully, the elbow popping hadn't completely caused a relapse - she wondered just how their team would have a functioning Quarterback in the next seven days.

To make matters worse, Felswyr State had beaten up on their opposition.

Was this it for the Lava?

It has taken a decade for Université St. Croix to come back to the NSCF after a decadelong absence, and the Bleu et Blanc are looking forward to keep up their ascent after their successful return two years ago. Being located at the St. Croix district, just ten minutes metro ride away from the renowned Quartier Calanien, the hub of student life, bistros and related academic establishments, St. Croix students, the faculty, the alumni and the Capitoliens all across the Multiverse welcome the fans across the Multiverse.

In terms of collegiate athletics, the Bleu et Blanc are consistently among the most successful in most sports the athletics department sponsor team/individual participation, with their particular strengths in gridiron, Women's basketball, both association footballs, Men's volleyball and fencing teams. Among them, most fans both home and abroad know the Bleu et Blanc football team the best, for they have not only won the second most number of national championships, but have made their mark as every capitolien's true blue in college football. This year was a yet solid year for the Bleu et Blanc program, with a couple of national championships won in Women's footy and an expected deep run for both fencing championships, and football did come close where they secured themselves another top 5 finish after a NY6 bowl win even after large graduation of its players.

As for the university itself, Université St. Croix is renowned for its particular strengths in most fields, but in particular the humanities and social sciences, which has been renowned for its bred and butter. Its Faculty of Arts and Sciences, especially fuelled by all of its eighteen colleges, is funded with consistency and high rates of trust and confidence by the Quebecois Government, who do take particular interest in the university and its students. It is perhaps destined from the university's origin into the 1640s (it is 2047 in Quebec right now), with St. Croix being the nation's only university for the first 120 years of the history. In 1648, the Quebecois Government had built the Seonggyoongwan, eventally the Seonggyoongwan Faculty of Arts and Science of the University itself, with both theological and practical trainings emphasised to prepare its students and alumni into civil service. Since then, as the university was renamed St. Croix in dedication of the St. Croix plains the university campus was built upon and took upon more imperial, comprehensive identity, the Université St. Croix has stood as the pinnacle of postsecondary education in not only Quebec and Shingoryeo, but also the Quebecois Commonwealth as well.

“How do you bounce back from here boys, that’s the question we’re facing right now. You played well tonight, we just happened to come up against one of the best college football programs out there, ain’t any shame in that. Not much pride either but that’s why how we come back this next game matters so much.”

BSU Broncos coach Steve Valentine looked around the locker room at his players. They were so strong, being built, grown men at their young ages, but Steve could see the pain of defeat hit them just as hard as it hit any sore-losing child. A 64-13 result wasn’t something you see everyday in college football and the boys were feeling the weight of the loss.

“I’m beat up about it, hell I’m fucking frustrated, not at you, not at me, at the result. But I’m making the choice to shrug it off, I’m a man just like all of you. I’m shrugging it off because we got work to do, we got six more games this season and preparing for the next one started the moment the clock hit :00 out there. We can’t spend too much time feeling bad or sad about how the game went, we gotta focus on learning our lessons and applying that in our next game.”

A little bit of life seemed to come back into the player’s eyes, with Bobby Dials looking especially motivated. Steve liked that about Bobby, blow a little air into the kid and he was ready to go no matter what. He was a damn fine quarterback too, Steve liked that even more. Bobby had a ton of potential, he could sling the leather with the best of them but he was also mobile, could scramble in the pocket and run up the field to pick up some yards. Not too quick but good enough to get the job done. Out of all your players, if you had to pick one to keep happy as a coach, you’re picking your quarterback.

“So here’s what we’re going to do. We’re gonna go home, have a few days to ourselves, blow off the steam however you do. After that, we come to work. We’re gonna train hard, we’re watching all of our film this season to take a look at every angle of out play, and we’re going to drill it out on the blue turf. There’s a lot of road left, if you can keep yourself calm, cool, and collected, we can win honor for ourselves this season, so do what you gotta do to put yourself in that mindset. BRONCOS COUNTRY……” Steve left off.

“LET’S RIDE!!!!!!!” Came the response from the players.

They were ready.

University of Utah vs Weber State University: The Utah Ice Hockey team had a successful game against Weber State University on Tuesday night, winning with a final score of 5-1. This victory was made possible by the strong play of all the members of the team who worked together to execute their strategy and make sure that Weber State could not mount any kind of comeback. The team worked together to ensure that Weber State would not be able to take advantage of any opportunities and ultimately came away with an impressive win.

The Weber side had a difficult time for the first go around in the playoffs, their defense was sub-par and their goalie failed to protect the net. Despite making it to the playoffs, it was clear that improvements needed to be made in order for them to succeed in the future. The team's lack of defensive effort and inability to effectively utilize their goalkeeper put them at a disadvantage throughout the season. In order for Weber side to reach their goals, they must invest in better players and tactics that will strengthen their defense and increase chances of success. All this lead to a blow out win for the University of Utah.

Utah University is celebrating tonight after their hockey team secured a big win against their opponents Weber State. The team played an outstanding game and all aspects of the game came together to put them in a position to come away with the victory. With great teamwork, strong offensive and defensive play, and exceptional goaltending, they were able to outscore their opponents and secure the win. The students, faculty, and alumni of Utah University are certainly proud of what their hockey team accomplished tonight! With that Utah moves moves onto the finals of this playoff bracket facing their heated rival in the BYU Ice Miners.

Bingham Young University vs Utah State University: It was a thrilling match between BYU Hockey and the Utah State Aggies with the former taking the win by a score of 3-2. The match was filled with tension and excitement throughout as both teams fought to gain an edge over each other. BYU Hockey managed to take advantage of their opportunities and secured the win in the end, despite Utah State's valiant effort. This game definitely showed that these two teams are evenly matched and will no doubt give fans an entertaining game whenever they clash. There was also a special guest with BYU Football Quarter-Back Blake Zuercher coming in attendence, and he happened to have a lady with him but it did seem like they had a good time with this win.

Utah State had an impressive performance in the recent match against BYU. Despite their skills and talent, the team unfortunately did not have the right placement for their goalie, which resulted in them losing out to BYU. This is a testament to how important strategic placement can be in determining a match's outcome. Despite this setback, Utah State proved they are a team to be reckoned with, having put up an amazing fight against their opponents. The next season Utah state has set its eyes on some promising recrutes all round the Four Corners republic.

BYU has shown its resilience in the face of adversity this season despite missing several core pieces from their roster. The coaches have demonstrated that they can still make a deep run in the playoffs by relying on their team's chemistry and playing to their strengths. Despite the losses of key players, BYU has proven that they are still capable of competing at a high level and advancing through the playoffs. They have also shown that with careful game planning and effective preparation, even a team with limited resources can be successful. This Hockey team can be seen winning the Utahn Hockey College Championship also known as the UHCC, but they can be stopped by well known Rival Utah University that remains to be seen.

Blake had just finished an enjoyable tea time with Miss Eliza Roberts. They exchanged pleasantries and talked about life in general. Though the time went by quickly, he enjoyed his time with her and was glad to have had the chance to get to know her better. It was a pleasant experience for him but he had to get going soon as he had other places to be. Sadly those places were practice but he stopped and looked back at the woman and asked, “Eliza, would you like to come with me to the BYU Playoff game happening later today?” Although he hadn’t planned on going it seemed like he could possibly spend more time with her if he invited her and she said yes.

He had been waiting for her response for what felt like an eternity. But when she finally replied with those three words, "I would love to," he could feel the butterflies in his chest immediately. His smile grew and he and soon he left the house with a pip in his step and when he got back to his dorm. He told his roommate about this and all he got in return was a chuckle and him saying this "Did she go to NMU (Northern Moravica University)? Because she is a Cougar, my friend." his only response was to tell him to shut it.

Later in the day, the practice was upon him, he was in the zone, and well, he knew a challenging couple of games were coming up. After their loss to Richardson, it was rough, but they can come back with a win against the Iron Peak Institute of Athletics. However, there would be a monster of a game with ColdHill up after Iron-peak. He had to do his best in both games if BYU was going to make it further, and that's why he was here, to ensure BYU got to those goals.

Four weeks. Four games. Four wins. The Upper Westside University Red Pandas are off to their best start in the NSCF thus far, but they aren't letting their guard down. "We have to look at this one game at a time. Just because we beat our last opponent doesn't mean we're sure to defeat our next one," said starting quarterback Adrian St. Roger. "Confidence from wins is good and all, but we can't just be running on that alone. There's always this thought that the next week could be the week we finally get brought to our knees, and we don't drown that thought out. We prepare and do our best in order to stop that from happening."

Week 3 of the 28th edition of the international intercollegiate gridiron tournament saw the Red Pandas host the Royal Navy Academy Mariners, where they would escape with a 32-18 victory. St. Roger threw for 294 yards and three touchdowns in this one, including a long bomb to primary wide receiver Sam Dobler with virtually no time remaining in the fourth quarter. And then on Week 4, it was off to South Newlandia for the Red Animal Rivalry Night, where they faced the Elephant Valley University Red Elephants in an impressive display of offensive firepower for both sides, ending in a nail-biting 46-43 comeback win for UWU.

On first and goal at the Mariners' one-yard line, St. Roger decided to sneak the ball into the end zone himself, but he would get sacked for a loss, It didn't matter though as he went for the pass in his next attempt, connecting with tight end Jonald Cooley to grab the lead. Unfortunately, Matt Ingberg's PAT attempt bounced off the right upright and out.

Yafet got his third touchdown of the game with an incredible catch and run despite being guarded tightly by the UWU secondary.

But once again, ten straight points for the Red Elephants. Perhaps interestingly, all of their scorers in the game were foreign students: Yafet was Banijan, Engstrom Valanoran, Killiks (and Divalles) Chromatik, and Samajae Dallas Ranorian.

With under three minutes remaining in the game, Elephant Valley held a commanding 15-point lead. However, Upper Westside refused to give up. Divalles was in the red zone, hoping to ice the game with a touchdown pass intended for tight end Amara Pond, only for the Red Pandas' freshman cornerback Evan Hunter to intercept that pass and run the length of the field (and then some), dodging as many defenders as he could while getting some good blocking from his teammates. It was a whopping 105-yard pick six, and it cut the lead to eight where it would have been at least 21 if Divalles had successfully connected with Pond.

UWU decided to go for the onside kick, which they would get. The first three plays of the drive were all passes for first downs, and the fourth went to Laney-Seymour once more, making it a two-point game. Obviously, the Red Pandas would go for two, and just like their onside kick attempt earlier, it would succeed, Jonald Cooley catching the pass.

Their two-touchdown lead may have evaporated in the span of less than two minutes, but the Red Elephants still had time to set up a game-winning drive. Unfortunately for them, it only took one play for the ball to go back in the hands of the Red Pandas, as Ishrael Carter picked off Divalles and ran before being pushed out of bounds. Ingberg banged in the game-winning field goal as time expired, as the visitors escaped with the narrow victory. "Sure, the Red Elephants may have owned, like, the first three quarters and most of the fourth,: said Dobler after the game. "But the last three minutes were ours, and the last three minutes were what mattered."

So what's next for the Red Pandas after their spotless start? A road trip to Banija to face the Northern Moravica University Cougars, who sit atop the Savannah Division with a 3-1 record. This was a team that the Yeezies narrowly beat a season ago, a nice 69-yard run by Tramell being the difference maker in a 41-34 overtime win. Perhaps fittingly, UWU head coach Fabio Forelli made the decision to put Tramell in as the starting running back for next week, replacing Okoma. "Dayquan has improved a lot from last season," said Coach Forelli. "It showed in that monster performance he had against Soria, and he also made highlight plays in our other games. But of course he won't be our only weapon if we hope to stop the Cougars. The passing game has been working well for us too, and the defense is stepping up, not to mention the special teams." This will be UWU's "whiteout" game of the season, with white helmets, tops and pants; supporters are invited to wear the same.

Tidbit 4: You're here for flowers?

It had the best reviews of any flower shop in Richardson - and they weren't close. Five stars across the board, with only one person - of hundreds, it should be emphasized, going below four. When Rylan read their review, he knew this was the place to go.

Not at all what I bargained for - their merchandise is soooo much better than what they advertise, I guess it's kind of a local secret!

Rylan tied Klaw up to the bike rack, and instructed him to be good before he walked up the hand-made wooden ramp onto the porch of the shop, the vibrant mixture of colors and rich aroma of their produce striking him as he came to the door of Flower Power. And...maybe something else that wasn't flowers?

He stopped for a moment, but the smell of the flowers overpowered whatever it was he'd picked up on, and he chalked it up to being around too many college kids.

A bell chimed when he walked in, and he couldn't help but take in the arrangement - hanging potted flowers, sunflowers growing under skylights, it was quite the display of color and stood in stark contrast to most of the city's traditional architecture.

"Welcome to Flower Power!" His attention turned to the source of the most singsong voice he'd ever heard - whether it was like something out of a horror movie or a rom com he hadn’t decided yet - and he couldn't help but beam when he saw the girl walking out of the back of the shop - her own grin infectious, even if her hands and face were covered in green from working with plants all day.

It was a large building, and he now noticed this open area was likely only a small portion of its expanse. "What can I help you find today?" She practically bounded over to him, humming to herself as she tried to make a determination for herself.

"You're a little too classy for reggie I take it, but maybe not quite enough of a rebel for dabs. Maybe something baked if you're worried about that foot?" She pointed down to the boot he was wearing over his ankle.

"Uuuuuh," Rylan was suddenly a bit uncomfortable as she leaned in closer than he anticipated, rubbing her chin and spreading the green stains to there as well. "What's reggie and dabs?"

The girl laughed, and punched him in the chest, which ended up pushing herself back a bit as he proved to be a veritable brick wall, but was unphased, "Y-you're joking right? What are you, nineteen? Yeah, you're joking."

And this is why you don't trust review websites. Richardson's star running back sighed, "Look, I just want some flowers, my girl and I are kinda going through a thing, thought she might appreciate it."

The shopkeeper blinked, extending a green finger, but couldn't contain her laughter for long. "Oh my goodness, you're here for flowers. This is like, the second time this has ever happened. I'm so sorry, yeah, yeah I can help you out. What kind of thing are we talking?" She teased the word as she glanced around the shop.

"Well, I hurt my ankle, and she thinks I don't have a chance to go pro now," his shoulders sagged at the memory, eyes downcast as he continued, "I just want a chance to win her back."

Klaw let out a roar outside, and the shopkeeper practically jumped out of her boots, "What the..?" She glanced out the window and saw a snow bear tied to her bike rack, and then those eyes went wide when she connected the dots. "Oooooh!" She laughed, "The snow bear, sprained ankle, you're Rylan Rodgers Jr!" Welcome to my humble abode!" She went back to scanning her assortment of flowers.

"You'll have to give me a minute, Butler," she shot him a look when she called him by his given nickname, "I'm not too familiar with my flower inventory here, they're really just for show."

"Uh...but isn't the place called Flower Power?" he inquired, not too phased at this point by being recognized. If walking around playing for a local football team that happened to be one of the nation's biggest brands wasn't enough, the media frenzy surrounding the university trying to punish him for adopting Klaw had been.

"Err, no." The blonde dug into her pockets and produced a remote with a single button - did it have a green leaf design on it?" She pointed at the wall where the shop's name was displayed in big, bold letters, and pushed it.

In a frenzy of mechanical whirs and clunks of wood moving around, the wall next to "Flower Power," flipped and revealed "(ered by THC), to really spell "Flower Powered by THC." "This is a weed shop, the flowers are just a front."

That did explain the words he hadn't heard before - Rylan was far from a smoker. Unfortunately, he only left scratching his tilted head now, as the bell signaled another customer came in, "A front?" he asked as she haphazardly shoved a pot full of assorted marigolds into his hands, "But marijauna's legal in Ranoria?”

"Yeah, but my parents are really conservative," she sighed, "So it's for them. Anyway, I have a business to run, tata for now." She shot him that infectious grin again and pushed him out of the shop to address her next customer.

Klaw stomped to express his impatience - he was ready to go home. Rylan chuckled, "Yeah right buddy, let's go find Edda."

It is not surprising to see the Tears of the Revolution High School Saints atop the Conference, only dropping their last game of the half, a shocking upset loss against the Cavaliers where OLB Henri Jefferson had four sacks. Andrew Wiggins has taken a big step forward in his development as Quarterback, and Lark Fromis continues to be one of the best high school running backs in the country. It's more of a battle for second place, as the field is rather even - though the Gemini have surprised by winning three out of their first five, this form is not expected to continue. Lanar High School are still the favorites, despite the dismal record up t this point - the injury of MLB Ivan Heer and OLB Vance Jillian, two big players on their defense, have been severely detrimental.

A conference in complete chaos, as Chromatik Army High School lead by virtue of Point Differential amongst tied teams. It's Jerome A. Samuelson High School's freefall that has been the most shocking. Sure, they lost their Quarterback, but nobody thought that MLB Sandai Hyal will not be able to lead the defense. They do have a positive Point Differential, so maybe it isn't too late, while South Sanar High School's defense will be severely disappointed by the fact that RB William Brine is the only consistent part of their offense - as the Armadillos' defense has been up to par. No, give the nod to North Sanar High School - they've lost their games close, Sophomore QB Skyler Jazmin is growing in front of the fans' eyes, and with the rest of the conference middling, it may give her enough time to fully grow.

Transfer Quarterback Dante Flowers has fit in without an issue for the Anacondas of Mt. Niar High School - who took down Randan High School in Randan to take the lead after five games. The Rapiers have been led by their unheralded defense, as they had only given up 21 points in four matches before the bout against the Anacondas. Flowers, though, has been immaculate - 182 points in five games is no slouch. Nobody is within reach of these two powerhouses, and with Flowers finding Earl Silverman eight times already, those that thought that the Anacondas would miss a step after Rowles's graduation will be severely disappointed.

Who knew Ciar Runst was this good? The Brisara Trade School freshman Quarterback has taken to his new role without much issue, utilizing both Senior RB Tary McLauren and Freshman WR Arley Fiestar without much issue. Umbar Hills High School did win their last two matches to recover from a disappointing start, and Sophomore QB Ewan Pyrehamix is starting to pick up steam. Though the Hammers of Brisara Central High School did win out among the bottom half of the table, it's the fact that they took down Brisara Trade School on the first day of the season that gives them some threat. Honestly, though? The Businessmen and Grizzlies should prevail.

Has the Heartland just decided to throw all caution to the wind? Crix Arts Institute has the best defense in the conference, while Cheonju Korean Institute's Senior QB, San Coreen, is doing all that he can to carry the team - including dropping sixty on City of Lorentine, another team at 3-2. City of Lorentine then dropped sixty on Cheonju High School... Cheonju High School took down Crix Technical, and Crix Technical tripped up many in matches prior. Five-way tie for first, and Lorentine Central High School firmly in last place? Cheonju High isn't expected to keep this up - a -51 PD isn't great - but any of the other four could do well and it wouldn't surprise anyone at this point. Due to the name value, Cheonju Korean Institute gains the vote of confidence for now.

Pride Academy looked like the team to beat - Senior QB Mikkela Ansoli has been playing brilliantly, and the defense led by Sophomore OLB Cana Hickorin has been suffocating - until Lhor Central High School shut them out at home, Junior CB Karen Michaelangelo having three interceptions. East Rhoni High School rounds out the top three, having the best offense in a very defensive conference as Senior QB Evan Jerome has been doing enough. It'll be a battle between those three teams for two playoff berths, and that is why Lhor Central isn't expected to stay atop the conference - they don't have a proven Quarterback, after all.

It's a very even conference, with the other three all being 1-4. Who has the edge? The best offense of the bunch is J. H. Yadasky High School, and they have the best defense as well - Sophomore QB Cade Stases and Junior SS Heinrik Dessler provide stable leadership. Between the other two, Junior QB Hudson Charles and Junior QB Suki Yoshito will be going head-to-head. Expect their second match against each other and their match against J. H. Yadasky to decide who gets second place, but the supporting cast for West Rhoni is a bit stronger.

Anchors Academy are surprising everyone with their stellar play - and likely to be the biggest opposition to the Blue and White - while Pier high School are holing that they both beat up on each other. Honestly, though? Anchors Academy has conceded forty-nine points through five games. Their crew of underclassmen is absolutely killing it, and they may be a big deal.

Is there room to worry about Academy of the Jungle? Back to back losses are not great, though the Inquisitors of Egren Academy look to be the class of the conference at the moment. Inon School for the Arts is led by two defenders, and doing all right, but it's really the Jugnle Cats and the Inquisitors that are the two great teams in this conference. Egren Academy has gained the edge, but the Jungle Cats will likley bounce back - Lina Goodson is starting to come into her own, after all.

The Monsoon are somehow in first place - give credit to Sophomore QB Patrick Osmeiller and Sophomore WR Reed Myler - but it likely won't last. Last week was certainly a very good week for TJUN-ia's NSCF programs as both teams hosted opponents from New Gesem and dealt with them with such efficiency. Now the first signs of the unknown appear as our schools prepared to host and face opposition from Gran Saguaro for the very first time. Having both games at home was seen as a distinct advantage that both teams could take advantage of, but the pressure was certainly on to defend the home field like there was no tomorrow. But how would everyone do?

The Trent State Feathercaps dealt with the Firebirds of UA with ease in a 32-7 demolition job hat told the NSCF that this 1-loss team deserved all the respect in the world at this current juncture. This week would actually by their Homecoming week, a chance for alumni of the past to comeback to the Horseshoe for the sake of collegiate tradition, and they would be treated to the arrival of the Zorrillos of Universidad Politécnica Autónoma del Metro-Boca Rana, or UPAM-Boca Rana for short, as the 3-1 Boreal leaders looked to knock off the 3-1 Heartland support act. Bernardo Bojorquez certainly has a good team at this disposal and his unit was good enough to turn this contest into a defensive duel between DC's Alehandro Martinez and Logan Pandora. Los Zorrillos did manage to score 3 points in this contest, with Ez García hitting a 36-yard FG, but TSU's experience and the knowhow of Johnny Bridgeford would pave the way for the dub, with Jason Steels finding Catherine Alcaraz-Cortéz twice while Eleonora "Firefeet" Scafakou went 2/2 on PATs and even hit a 43-yard FG for good measure. It wasn't the prettiest performance, but it certainly was enough for TSU to claim the 17-3 Homecoming win and move to 4-1 on the year.

The Green City Royal Eagles, on the other hand, continued to be a roaring beast as they dealt with the Binturongs 41-27 and with the 1-3 Ventosas of Universidad Pública Reserva Cui-ui, or UPR Cui-ui for short, coming to The Palace@GCU to end GCU's 3 game Homestand, there was certainly an expectation that the great football Paul Abdullahi was cooking would continue for another week at least. We didn't really know much about Los Ventosas heading into this contest but they did manage to score 14 points on the day, thanks to 2 TDs and 2 PATs, but unfortunately for them, Alisha Obi Michel is just a beast of a QB and she would kill the opposition with her 5 TDs, with Mercy Oshoala and Harrison Jeffers getting 2 each and the final 1 going to Batsogile Lovederia. Glory Oparanozie only managed to go 4/5 on the day on PATs, but that wouldn't sour the mood as this 34-14 win kept GCU undefeated at 5-0 at the MInCon halfway stage.

Things are looking good right now but with both teams entering the Road legs of the Boreal slate, no one really knows how things are going to go in those environments. For TSU, the Constantinople Binturongs shall await them at Ripper Stadium while GCU heads to Redbird Stadium to face the Alexandroupolis Redbirds in games that will certainly be telling on both teams' aspirations. If both teams want to be elite, they want to perform well on the road as well as at home...so this one will be interesting if nothing else.

South Newlandian High School Recruits – Part 1

7th: Gael Medina, Strong Safety, Miceton High School
It’s not often one of the best South Newlandian recruits comes from a place as small as Miceton. If you’ve never heard of it, that’s more or less normal, and Medina only made a name for himself by playing in a nearby, bigger city. His physical tools are great, making him a fantastic, sure handed tackler, although his ball tracking and route anticipation still need some work. A tall, fast, strong player, Medina has a lot of raw upside, but definitely requires good coaching to turn into a starting option.
Off the field, his academic interests include agriculture – coming from rural South Newlandia, Medina has been in touch with nature his entire life, and looks to pursue this further in his college degree. He’s also hoping to play in a smaller city, if at all possible.

6th: Wayne Giordano, Cornerback, West Point (Newport)
Giordano, being the top recruit from one of the biggest high schools for gridball in South Newlandia (not that is saying much, South Newlandia is, as results show, awful at gridiron), is coming in with slightly more experience than other recruits. While the Newport native is not overly tall, he is extremely fast, and will have good chances against even top receivers in a foot race. While he’s decent at breaking up passes, he’s not exactly a ballhawk, struggling to come down with interceptions his entire career.
Like many South Newlandian recruits from gridball high schools, Giordano was never a fantastic student, although he’s not awful, either. He’s likely to pursue a degree in a sports-related field, which was his best subject throughout high school. Additionally, Giordano is a big soccer fan – given the option between a city with a great soccer team and one without, he’s very likely to pick the former.

5th: Abdullah-Aadi Makavan, Centre, Kinjestad High School
Makavan, sometimes known simply as AAM by his friends, is, like most offensive lineman, rather huge. His strength definitely lies in run blocking, and he’s going to get beat in pass protection a decent amount; although given that he’s a relatively raw player, maybe a good coaching staff can change that. At the very least, Makavan has also been the long snapper for his team, a role he frequently performed extremely well at; so if nothing else, you’re likely to get a long snapper that doubles as a backup center.
Academically, Makavan hasn’t expressed particular interest in any specific field yet, so he might just go for a business degree or something similar. An average student through and through, Makavan will not make headlines with his academic achievements.
Like all South Newlandians, Makavan loves elephants; but being from an island, where elephants are not native, he also passionately feels for other animals. One of his favourite animals, a species he has never seen yet in his life, are snow bears.

4th: Enzo Hernandez, Defensive Back, St. Riecarn High School
In recent years, South Newlandia has this odd habit of producing versatile, play-smart defensive backs that can fill any role in the secondary. There was Sai Dutta (now NMU), Arlet Garcia (now Crimson), and now there is Hernandez. He is cast from a similar mould – physical tools that are solid, but not outstanding, a deep understanding for the game, and the versatility to be plugged into various spots into the secondary, which makes him an ideal target for a backup in the there. It’s weird, where do these guys (and gals) keep coming from?
Hernandez was an above average student in high school, and has expressed desire to work in the medical field in the future. Being from St. Riecarn, Hernandez has been a big fan of the Saints ever since their inception, and he’s picked up baseball himself in high school. He’s probably not good enough to make a huge dent for any major college baseball team, but he could be a serviceable corner outfielder.

This is how government teams play against each other

How the government teams play against each other is an important question and this is where international relationships come off the bench. As a football player, I don’t know the exact playbooks and the position names but I do know power in football. On the gridiron, the BSU Broncos’ power comes from our physical strength and our skill. That is hard power. The BSU Broncos also show strength from being the BSU Broncos, our fans, and how we influence by being the BSU Broncos. That is soft power. This is like in international relationships where power comes in different ways.

Soft power is how Cardenao influences by being Cardenao. It is how we influence others through charm, sideline chat, and becoming gym buddies for our own reasons, rather than tackling them and pulling the ball from their hands. Cardenao does that by our exports, the relationships President Mihaly has made, and how Cardenao makes itself strong. This is like how we are friends with Banija, Quebec and Shinyguru, and TikRiot.

Hard power is how Cardenao shows strength from our military force, like how we tackle and block other nations. This is like when we invaded the Ochre Islands but they threw chestnuts at us. As a football player, I understand the strengths of soft and hard power in sports.

The BSU Broncos’ reputation and ability to influence fans and other teams through our style and culture is soft power, we are the BSU Broncos. Our strength as strong men and good football players gives us the ability to beat our opponents and this is hard power. In international relationships, these forms of power and how they are used is important to shape how Cardenao plays the game.

While I might not care about study stuff, understanding being strong can help me become a better Cardenaoan and contribute to our national goals.

Amid the salt, smoke, and carnage that was the ever evolving front line against the legions of demons, the two most respected leaders of the elven world were stuck in a debate. Kelembor was pitching his idea to siphon the negative energies and corrupting magics that had been pouring forth from the magical portal that brought the demons to their world and attempt to send them back. Atheron did not believe that the mage or any collection of mages could actually accomplish such a feat and even if they could, the risks of losing magic in its entirety across all the planet or worse seemed like too far great of a cost to endure, even if it did rid them of their enemies. What would life be like if magic was suddenly and completely removed from it? Would the planet even still be stable, having grown over time and adapting to the magical energies that flowed through the world along those magical fault lines like which Althion was centered over? The risks in Atheron's mind was simply too great to take if it could even actually be done successfully.

Arriving with a blood stained tattered cloak and bent in plate mail, a messenger approached the two leaders in their debate with obvious tears in his eyes and evidence of having been weeping on the voyage from the front lines. The messenger brought with him a heavy and devastating tale, the Celestial Queen had been slain in combat and Atheron's children were missing from action, with no one having seen them be slain but no one had seen them retreat from the battle either. Not a single person could look at Atheron in the eyes as he erupted into unbridled rage and fury, swearing upon every god in the pantheon that he would strike down ever last member of the demonic hordes that were plaguing the lands. Despite the absurdity of the proclamation, no one that was in attendance doubted his sincerity or ferocity in exclaiming those words. With a look of righteous fury on his face, he mounted his dragon and told his soldiers to hold strong, for he was going to visit the Shrouded Isle, where upon it a blade of untold power was said to be resting in a protected shrine.

Upon the Shrouded Isle was the Shine to Killian, the god of violence, where upon an alter was said to have been a blade that been forged at the dawn or time by some god using the remnants of a dead star. The power of the blade is said to be unmatched by any other in the mortal realm, not forged directly but a splinter of a weapon that had been forged for a god, perhaps Killian himself. While the elves knew not of war and murder, in some societies Killian was the god of such, the personification of a relentless desire. Those followers of the god believed that he deemed no act too high a cost to act upon, save for not aligning with his divine will. To seek out such a blade of a god whom even among the elven societies was the god of violence showed the sort of reckless conviction that Atheron had now burning inside of him. Upon the alter there was an inscription detailing the creation of the blade and the power it held, being capable of slaying even a god, but it came with a terrible price. To wield Killian's blade was to invite death, damn your soul, and doom your lineage forevermore.

When Kelembor heard of Atheron's intent, he begged and pleased with the High King to not give into such a reckless course, that they could find a different path to overcome the odds that were stacked against them. Atheron could not or would not be persuaded by the mage and his friend's words, he would go to the Shrouded Isle and seek out the Sword of Killian. Kelembor gave Atheron one last warning in an attempt to dissuade his friend from this task. With words that seemed to flow as if spoken prophecy, Kelembor told Atheron that if he sought to use such a power, that he would surely die, that the gods would turn their favor from him and his line, that they would be cursed until the last generation, and that great tragedy would befall all of elven kind for attempting to wield the power of the gods. Even his dragon begged Atheron not to seek such power and it was said that he received visions from the gods to turn away. Not heeding mortal warnings or otherwise, Atheron flew off on his dragon to the Shrouded Isle to seek the weapon he knew would bring the demons to their knees.

5. Université St. Croix (Quebec) - Woodlands
Still among the unbeaten teams, there are few superlatives that we could use to describe their defense that would come close to adequately portraying how dominant it has been. It does always have to be a high scoring affair or the "beautiful" side of the sport that we Vanorians tend to love, it can be ugly or not the most clean of performances. The matter of the fact is that when you are suffocating opposition teams the way that this Quebecois school is doing, you do not have to be scoring in bunches in order to grab the victories. Université du Saguenay will be waiting for their second chance at St. Croix, but for the moment they are the team to beat in the Woodlands, hands down.

4. Cold Hill University (Ranoria) - Big Eight
So, who wants to get in front of this runaway freight train in the Big Eight? We have seen Cold Hill be utterly dominant before but this is a whole different scale to what we are used to from the school and that is saying something given the history of the team. Few might have seen them being the dominant force in the Big Eight with Richardson being the current title holders, but to be the best you have to beat the best and they did exactly that and in quite a convincing fashion as well. If I was a Cold Hill fan, I would want the playoffs to be starting right now with how hot they seem to be, but they do have to still contend with rest of their conference slate and you can bet that Richardson will be attempting to get payback for the loss that they suffered at Cold Hill's hands.

3. Felswyr State University (Chromatika) - Horizon
As we predicted, the Firehawks are having their way with the other division in the Horizon and with their fellow Chromatika school in Staramara Tech having dropped two games in conference now, they have the edge in when it comes to making that conference title game where they should be heavy favorites. Felswyr simply has to keep playing their football and they will wind up there, even having a bit of cushion thanks to that second loss suffered by the Lava, which they will hope to not have to need at the end of conference play.

2. Mar Sara Tech (Valanora) - Zephyr
The high flying Raiders keep their spot as they remain unbeaten through the halfway point of the conference slate. Sporting the fourth best offense in the NSCF, even better than the highly touted "best ever" wide receiver corps of Raynor University, the Raiders look to be on an absolute conquest through the Zephyr right now to try and reestablish themselves as the best team in the Empire and in the conference. Redshirt sophmore Jericho Swayne from Chromatika has been ruthlessly efficient as a passer, with only a single interception given up thus far. While it can sometimes be methodical, as the Raiders do miss in a good amount of the run into their playbook, it gets the job done. The Raiders have recently been in this same position though and squandered it in the second half of conference play, so we need them to prove they are actually for real in these next few games to actually trust them.

1. Green City University (TJUN-ia) - Mineral
Just keep winning baby!? Their point difference is simply staggering at this point of the season, already over triple digits with only five games played. This team is firing on all cylinders currently and right now they look almost impossible to beat in a four quarter matchup. Their biggest enemy is going to be one of complacency and thinking that they already have the job done at the halfway stage of conference play. There is still another five games left where on any given Saturday, a team can surprise you.

"I still don't get what the big deal is."

Drying herself with a towel after a post-workout shower, Lisa Bonsoon, the Freshman Cornerback for the Firehawks, was conversing with one of her secondary mates - Adora Hightower, a Junior for the Firehawks. Adora had already changed into tank top and jeans - rather unusual for the cold Felswyrite climate - and turned respectfully away as Bonsoon reached for her smallclothes past the screen and started to don her clothes.

"There's nothing really wrong with trash talking," Hightower explained, "Especially when you've been coming through on the playing end of things. It's just not very Chromatik. Ever since Chromatika entered the sports scene, we've always been rather reserved in terms of bantering. People would rather that you just take care of things and respect your opposition."

"You've got to be kidding me," Bonsoon muttered, coming back into Hightower's view, wearing a t-shirt and jeans, "Nobody had ever talked a little smack?"

"Apparently, Victoria Mio did for a while at Cold Hill," answered Hightower, "But it really isn't a normal part of Chromatik culture, and Felswyr State culture, at all."

"What do you personally think about it?" Bonsoon's tone was rather defiant, as if to challenge Hightower to disagree.

"I'm fine with it,' Hightower said exasperatedly, "Just make sure you can keep putting up with your words."

"Oh," said Bonsoon matter-of-factly, "I plan on it."

Bonsoon had two interceptions and five tackles in the Firehawks' win over the Stallions. So far, she was talking the talk.

Dr. Paniagua strode proudly the lecture hall. In the center sat a massive object covered with a cloth. Arranged around it, a crescent moon of Advanced Aquatic Biology students. After a while, Dr. Paniagua cleared his throat into the microphone.

"Seldom...do students of the natural world have such an opportunity..."

He paused for effect.

"...to make the most astounding, sought-after, immortalizing achievement...in our discipline. This achievement indicates a mastery...a skill...truly, a genius...(which is in short supply in this world)...that few possess; so students, it is imperative that you pay the closest attention now. Because I...your humble professor...have, in the course of my work...not only accomplished the most incredible feat of any scientist's career...I have decided to share this moment with you; the moment of a discovery."

"Yes! Discovery!" he continued, pacing now as he spoke. "Stemming from the Latin discooperire...defined by the Silva-Schmidt Dictionary as...well, that's unimportant...ah, enough with the foreplay!"

Dr. Paniagua yanked off the sheet — a ten-foot fish tank stood on a lab table, illuminated by blacklight, containing an ugly black fish that floated upside-down near the surface of the water. "Behold—" Dr. Paniagua pointed to a masking-tape label he had attached to the tank, "the gogodipterus paniaguaii, or as it will be colloquially known, 'Paniagua's Black Saguaro Lungfish'. Isn't it beautiful?"

The amazed biology students began taking pictures with their phones, and scribbling in their notebooks. Dr. Paniagua observed it further. "Hm. It seems to have died in transit."

"No matter," he said. "Please, all of you...come down here, come on, make your initial observations. The story of my find was quite an interesting one — I was in the Los Cerritos wetlands, near a chemical factory on the south end of San Armando, looking for deformed tadpoles, when my assistant tripped over something. He thought it was a stick...so he flung it into the air, and we saw it contorting as it flew, as live animals will, and then I ran after it. Though it had landed in a patch of relatively dry land (too dry and muddy for a fish to breathe), the creature was still alive — so I recognized that it must be a lungfish, and I took it back to the lab as soon as I could."

His students crowding around the tank with their notebooks, Dr. Paniagua began to pace once more. "Of course — a lungfish? The idea that a lungfish is living here, in Gran Saguaro, is very unlikely...no known species of lungfishes live this far north, and so this discovery will rattle the foundations of marine biology to its very core—"

A student raised her hand. "Erm, Dr. Paniagua?"

"I—yes?"

"What is the evolutionary reason for this thing?" She pointed at a small horn on the lungfish's nose.

"Well...yes...ah..." Dr. Paniagua examined the horn very closely. "Mating purposes, most likely. Perhaps to defend against, er, pelicans."

The class collectively frowned. Pelicans, which eat fish, are despised by marine biology students.

"I know many of you may have questions," he started, "and—"

"Dr. Paniagua, why are the basals on this dorsal fin so—"

"Dr. Paniagua, I don't think the lungs work, it seems to be not breathing—"

"Rajesh, you idiot, he already said it died in transit—"

"Dr. Paniagua, it stings when I touch it!" One of his students had dunked her arm in the tank and grabbed the lungfish.

"Stop!" Dr. Paniagua yelled. "Get your hand out of that tank, if you please! Obviously I don't know all the answers to these questions...so I will need to study my fish more; I will be having labs this afternoon, tomorrow at 4, probably on Sunday, and however long it takes until we have discerned all the answers to the questions about this mysterious animal. Class is ending early today, I need to prepare the lungfish for dissection, maybe five of you can stay, the rest of you are to read chapter 96, about live births."

Dr. Paniagua received odd looks from the other passengers, as he transported his fish tank, covered in a sheet, to the Presidential Institute of Natural Sciences via the metro. In a crisp lab coat, Dr. Paniagua stood out distinctively from the other passengers. He looked around the metro car, reading the advertisements.

"Excuse me, sir," he said to another passenger wearing earbuds. "I...am hesitant to ask this, but could you move over slightly? So I can better read what's behind you."

The passenger obliged, and looked at what was behind him — a warning from the municipal authorities to be vigilant against insurance fraud.

He chuckled. "You must be bored, sir."

"Well," said Dr. Paniagua. "I guess so."

"What's in the box?"

"Oh, it's not a box. I'm a professor of biology at UPAM. This is a discovery."

The passenger nodded. "Lit."

"It's a lungfish."

"Dope."

"It has gills, but it also has a 'lung' — well, a modified swimming bladder. It can breathe air outside of water, a trait that it inherited from its prehistoric ancestors. This discovery will be incredibly exciting in the world of science. I'm off to present it."

"Rad."

"No lungfish has been found this far north, though fossil evidence suggests..."

The passenger put his earbuds in and drained out Dr. Paniagua, who didn't seem to notice. At moments where the song lulled, however, he could still hear the professor rattling on...

"...and the horn, found by one of my students, could indicate a divergence even from the dipnoi order entirely..."

"...because I was searching for defected tadpoles in the wetlands adjacent to a chemical factory..."

"...which is why I told her that if she wanted to keep the relationship going, she was going to have to put out eventually..."

"...but that student, ugh, the perfume, it's intolerable, I might just have to flunk her because I can't even stand it, but I can't get any more complaints this year..."

"...I don't know for sure if the corporate elite eat babies, but I don't know for sure if they don't, and it's better to be cautious..."

"...well this is my stop, so it was nice meeting you, finally I got to talk to someone who listens!"

Game of the Week

University of Bwaruya Penguins 30–33 University of Aksum Silverbacks

Talk about the game of the week. Remember Muhoozi Lwako, U of A's running back, prediction after their stunning, 58-16 blowout win over Moravica A&M in week 5? He predicted that U of A would stun the world, and win this conference. And look at what they've done since then. 22-13 win in Week 7. 16-12 win over Moravica Internaitonal in Week 8. And then, here we are- Week 9, an away game against the University of Bwaruya. The conference is simply there for the taking- U of A sitting in first place, the Silverbacks winning close game after close game, behind their bruising running game- led by tailback, Muhoozi Lwazo.

But this road game against the Penguins would be all that the University of Aksum could handle, and then some. The Penguins had taken an early lead against them- it took quite a bit of luck to get there, of course, but they had an early lead. Lwazo had a TD on the opening drive, yes. But the Penguins would come storming back. Passing TD in each of the first two quarters, and a 77 yard pick six with just 32 seconds left in the half. That last pick was particularly brutal- on the way to potentially take the lead, as they were down 14-10 at the time- and instead, the pick six made it 21-10 to the University of Bwaruya. Were the Penguins going to get the upset?

The answer would not be known. The Silverbacks defense tightened up at that point. While the Penguins went three and out on their opening drive of the third quarter, so did the Silverbacks- and the Silverbacks then had a punt blocked. First and goal to the Penguins, at the 4 yard line. Could have been the dagger. But no- the SIlverbacks defense stood up, and forced them to kick. 24-10- not ideal, but things could get back in place. But down like that, with this time left, you could still rely on Lwazo. And that's what they did- a 7 and a half minute drive, ending in an 11 yard TD run for Lwazo. 2nd of the game, 24-17 to the Penguins. The Penguins used a big pass play to spark another field goal- 27-17, heading into the fourth quarter.

Then, one of the most college football quarters you've ever seen. Penguins getting another long drive to end in three- 30-17 with 8 minutes left. The Silverbacks can no longer rely on their punishing ground game- instead, the true freshman would have to win this on the road. Could he? He led an excellent drive, but a brutal holding call on third and goal forced the Silverbacks to kick with 5:15 left. Cowardly kick? Maybe. But 4th and goal from the 17.. There's quite literally nothing in the playbook for that. U of A's coach took some temporary heat. But do what you can. An onside kick- and they recovered it! Lwazo, miraculously, recovering the kick. They had life. And the true freshman QB, who had relied on his RB all season, threw another TD with 3 minutes left. 30-27.

The Penguins got two first downs- but could not get the third to deliver the dagger. 57 seconds left for the Silverbacks, ball at their own 22. They move the ball up the field, to the U of B 45 yard line. Chance for a Hail Mary. We'll let the announcer take this one.

All they've got time for is a Hail Mary. The Freshman gets the snap and drops back. They send some rushers- he escapes the pressure and rolls to the sideline. He needs a few seconds to allow his WRs time to get down into the end zone, then he heaves up a Hail Mary... AND IT'S CAUGHT! AND IT'S CAUGHT! HEAVES UP A PRAYER AND THE SENIOR WIDEOUT COMES DOWN WITH IT- OH MY, THE UNIVERSITY OF AKSUM ARE GONNA WIN THIS GAME! 33-30! THE SILVERBACKS STORM THE FIELD! THE PENGUINS FAITHFUL ARE STUNNED- WHAT A MOMENT!

What a moment, indeed. A Hail Mary. And with their 30-24 win over Zawadi, it sets up one of the biggest editions of the Aksum Derby(U of A v. Aksum State) that we've ever seen, next week. Winner takes all, loser goes home. Who will triumph?

University of Kitara- Patriotic Collapse

Week 9: Army Raiders 23–22 University of Kitara Hippogriffs
Week 10: University of Kitara Hippogriffs 26–28 Navy Seamen

U of K patriotism. 0-3 against the military academies, and 5-1 against non-academy competition- including 4-0 in conference. Insane, truly- right? Let's really take a look at this. The Hippogriffs, after a 42-31 win over Central Kitara in Week 8, were sitting at 4-1 in conference play- top of the conference. At that point, their only loss in the LCC was to Air Force. But then, they played both the Army and Naval Academies in back-to-back weeks, before their huge rivalry with Mamari U- and they blew it, losing on last second plays, in back to back weeks, to the troops. Ridiculous!

Let's go back to Week 9. The University of Kitara travel to the Kabaka's Military College, to take on Army. They have a strong first half- a punt return TD, alongside a pair of drives that would end in field goals, give them a 13-0 lead on the road against half. Most people thought it was done and dusted at that point- up two scores, on the road yes, but against a really terrible Army team. But it was anything but done and dusted. The Raiders really dug in their heels, and started running the football. Two TD drives in the third quarter made it 14-13 to Army. But U of K were able to hit a field goal at the very end of the third quarter, to regain a two point lead- 16-14, over Army.

So 16-14 to the Hippogriffs. After that field goal, Army would throw a pick deep into their own territory- but once again, U of K could only convert it into 3. 19-14 to the Hippogriffs. The game was sitting there, close. Army would then get a field goal of their own, with 9 minutes left, to make it 19-17. Hanging around, right? The Hippogriffs would launch a 6 and a half minute drive- one designed to kill the game. But it could not- they, too, were kicking with 2 minutes left, their fifth field goal of the contest, to make it 22-17. A five point game, two minutes to go. Army drove down the field- hitting a 4th & 7, 4th & 8, and a 4th & 12, all on the same drive- and eventually scored an 8 yard TD with 15 seconds left. 23-22- Army missed the 2PC but it didn't matter. What a win.

Alright, upset loss on the road- those happen, right? That did not have anything to do with the atrocious display at home just the very next week, against an also rough Navy team. Navy blitzed them early- U of K allowed a 88 yard TD pass on the game's opening play, to Navy. Combine that with a 27 yard pick six, and then a long drive of their own, Navy shocked the world, taking a 21-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. Of course, U of K tried to roar back. They scored at the end of the half to make it 21-7. Then, they scored to start the third quarter, to make it 21-13, missing the PAT. A Navy TD would make it 28-13, but they would continue to fight back.

U of K made it 28-20 late in the fourth, and recovered the onside kick. They made it 28-26, scoring another TD with under a minute to go- but missed the 2PC. Another upset, U of K's conference title hopes going into the tank. They can still win the conference if they win on the road against Mamari next week- but if they can't beat a single military academy, how the hell can they beat the Sand Spiders?

Kizza I College Cubs 30–23 Bunyoro A&M University Waterbucks

Think about Kizza I College's preseason expectations. The #1 team in the country heading into this season. Some thought there was a decent chance that they'd go undefeated. To say that hasn't happened would be an understatement. But they can still win their conference. They lost a heated rivalry game, 32-30, against the University of Ankole in week 9. Against Bunyoro A&M, basically the season lay in the balance- they could still win the conference with a win, but a loss would eliminate them from title contention with a week to go- a long fall from the preseason favorites to not only win the conference, but win the whole damn natty.

It was an absolute must win for the Cubs against the Waterbucks, here at home. And despite whatever had gone wrong- they had rescued their conference title hopes by downing the Waterbucks. Bunyoro A&M were trying to shock everyone- but the Cubs were just too strong. A one possession game, yes- but lots of garbage time scoring. It was 30-13 with just 2:12 left. The Cubs put in a dominating performance to really show why they were picked by many to win a national title. Complete- offense, defense, special teams, dominating in all three phases. They're in a 3 way tie in their conference, but they'll be licking their chops at the opportunity to down Loyola-Busukuma next week and hopefully gain a conference championship.

Whatever Happened to??

Akwadua- started 5-0, now 6-4

It happens, doesn't it? It was a flash in the pan. The only team Akwadua has beaten since their 5-0 start is Air Force- aka, their only win since they were undefeated was over a military academy. Not exactly confidence inspiring. Yes, they played 10 wees in a row, their bye not being until next week- but still, absolutely horrendous finish considering their start. They're getting the doors blown off of them now. Akwadua lost by 47-24 to Kabakono- but they were down by a stunning 40-3 after three quarters. Garbage time TDs making up the difference.

Central Aksum- lost 62-10, in contention for a conference title

Remember when the Central Aksum Titans were getting plastered, 62-10, early on in the season by the Islamic U? We had written them off. We said- no way a team could lose like this and win anything. But yet... Here they are. Sitting at 5-2 in conference play. Second in their conference- and in play to win the N9. If Aksum State can defeat U of A at home next week, while the Titans take care of business, they can be named conference champs. A lot needs to happen- but after they lost 62-10, many thought the Titans would finish like 3-7. Not be a game away from a conference title.

What happened? They fixed their defense. They can actually tackle now- which helps. Storming all the way back to be a game away from winning the N9, it's really impressive. They've got to go on the road, yes- but it's against Zawadi University, who are 2-7(1-6 in conference). The easiest of dubs, right? The Titans couldn't possibly blow their role in this, right? And Aksum State would love nothing more than to ruin the University of Aksum's season. The stars really seem to be aligning on one of the most impressive turnaround jobs that we've ever seen?

The final edition of the top 10! Next, we'll do a playoff projection- a media playoff projection, of course, that'll include the 8 conference champions, and the teams we think will be the 8 at-large. The final game of conference play, scheduled for next week, is always crazy, always insane- you can't go wrong with the beauty and chaos of Rivalry week.

Of course, only one team fell out of the top 10 entirely- and that was Lake Alexandre State. And for obvious reasons- they've lost 3 in a row. A sizzling start to the season has given way to a complete implosion, culminating in a 34-10 blowout loss at the hands of Loyola-Jinja(who then replaced them in the top 10 to boot). A lot of things to look at and worry about for Lake Alexandre State.

A good way to move up is to be one of two one loss teams in the country. Wild Valley will reach the #1 overall ranking, becoming the third team in Banija to achieve that this season. Yes, they somehow have a 42-11 blowout loss against one of the worst teams in the country. But besides basically one bad day- they're cruising. QB Baka Webo is the most talented non-NSCF player in the country, and absolutely shredding teams through the passing game. The Golden Hornets are a serious threat this season. Don't forget the River Rats, however. Hangaza Tech is sitting there at 8-1, and #2 in the country as well.

The Islamic U are #3, while Zakuta State are #4. Both also went 3-0 since the last edition of these rankings- and both each flew five spots up the polls. Both are cruising and seem to be playing their best football at the right time of year- when conference titles are there for the winning. That means next week's Islamic U @ WVU matchup is going to be insane- top 3 matchup, conference championship on the line- you know where to tune in next week. Behind Zakuta State sit Kizza I College.

Behind them in the rankings should not surprise many. Lesedi U, Bunyoro A&M, the University of Aksum, the University of Buganda, and Loyola-Jinja round out the top 10. What's the most interesting part of the season, however? With only one conference game, not a single team has clinched their conference. Next week, aka rivalry weekend, will mean 8 conferences will have chaotic rivalry games, all with conference titles, and playoff berths, on the line. Teams trying to ruin each other's seasons. Glory available. The last time we had this much parity and drama for rivalry week, well... I can't ever remember it.

NSCF Brief- Cougars down Upper Westside U while Blue Thunder roll against outgunned Royal Navy Academy

HERZEGOVINA CITY, MORAVICA- The Upper Westside University Red Pandas, off to their first ever 4-0 start in NSCF history, came to town to take on Northern Moravica- and the Cougars delivered them their first loss of the season, with a 31-19 home win to improve to 4-1 on the year. The defense was very bend but don't break- holding the Red Pandas to four field goals and just a lone touchdown, while they themselves scored four touchdowns in their four red zone appearances, plus a 47 yard field goal from their star kicker, Dwayne Markseon. "This was absolutely a full team effort- a win that we needed." Said the team's head coach, Lance Kabuye. "We're about to go on the road, we've got to take care of business at home. Now, we can go on the road, full of confidence."

The Blue Thunder, trying to keep pace with NMU(although still heavy underdogs in the race for a Savannah Division title), also protected home field, blitzing the Royal Naval Academy by a score of 48-10. The game was really over as soon as it started- the Blue Thunder took off their starters after three quarters, at which point they led 41-3. A-MV was dominant against what was certainly weaker opposition, throwing four TDs in the effort. The schedule gets a hell of a lot tougher for the Blue Thunder- Weeks 6 and 7, they've got daunting back to back road games against Hankow State(who they haven't played since they shared the Celestia in NSCF 14) and Upper Westside U(who they beat twice last year in Banija) in that order.

"College football's never been about the easy path." Said their own head coach, Dennis Zervos. "These road games are daunting, yes- but this teams' got the heart of a lion. We won't be scared- we'll go anywhere and take down anybody."

College Watch: Mammoths continue strong performance, MD7 match against Mar Sara likely to be rehersal for conference title
Mancodas - A 24-16 win over Raynor University Rockets on Matchday 5 gave the team a much needed confidence, allowing the team to open up a 3-win lead over fellow countrymen MRI ahead of a tricky Matchday 7 tie against Mar Sara Tech Raiders.

With Vanorian schools making their return into the College Football scene, they were expected to mount a fierce challenege to regain the Zephyr title from our Mammoths. And both of their colleges have a really strong showing historically in the Conference - after TJUN-ian schools moved from Zephyr into Mineral Conference, their dominance at the top was literally unheard off among other schools. But the Mammoths was never going to surrender the conference title easily, with Livia Smit, head coach of the Mammoths, understanding very well that a series of strong performances in the tournament would give the team additional confidence and provide a much needed boost to the gridiron scene in Poafmersia.

Against Raynor University, year 3 center Charity James was the hero, scoring a total of 2 touchdowns and 1 safety to allow the Mammoths to take an early lead against the Rockets. His efforts were largely supported by quarterback John-James Mcknight, whose got the ball forward before passing to James to score the touchdowns. In defence, fifth-year student Stojanović showed his experience on the field, understanding the opponents' attacking trends and preventing them for making reasonable attack options, and was crucial in preventing a late charge by the Rockets to force the game into overtime.

With the win against the Rockets, the Mammoths continue to remain at the top of the division with 5 wins, with Maximus Rochester Institute behind at 2 wins, and the last 2 teams in the conference stuck with a win each. Both colleges will take a trip to cross-division opponents this week, before returning home for a second round of matches against Vanorian teams.
