This was Albundania's first chance to test out their world cup squad. (OOC - sadly I'll be going to California this week, and so will not be rping much if at all this first week) It featured the manager who has successfully held the AMLF cup for three years now, Arnold Shwarz. Arnold was a bit worried about his first game against Bears Armed, and realized he probably wasn't going to get out of this group. However, that didn't mean he was going to try. It is time for the 11th semiannual Oxen Cup. According to my sources the 10th Oxen Cup which many thought was actually this one, was held last summer in Atlantea, unbeknownst the Taeshani fans, and included some college soccer teams from the Qazian college league. Anyways, know for the second time the league champion Taeshan Air Force Academy will take on the international professional world in the Oxen Cup. All seniors, the team will make their final international season after 4 Iucc's and 2 Oxen Cup's. It may be hard to say good bye to this team, but after a great year it is only fitting they will say goodbye on National television in a big international series of games.

The young team with more history then many of the other squads in this years tournament, will try to work on their schools 6th straight League championship with a big showing in the Oxen Cup. Their six games will be played in the order of Satiaville, Delaclava, Starblaydia and then the same order again. The only real opponent seems to be the Starblaydians at this point, but with less up for grabs it may be a young team who rules the day. Anywayus tune in in the coming weeks to watch the final hurrah of a champion.

[Queer Poco el Mono Ara]

Queer Poco el Mono Ara's selected 23 to participate in the Oxen Cup

Coach – Asdrubal Espinoza, spent a number of years grabbing silverware in Candelaria and Marquez with Albrecht Turkish. A change of pace with a national team will test his mettle as trophies are not guaranteed. It is hoped his skills with man management and team building will help in developing the Queer Poco el Mono Ara national team into a formidable force.

First XI
GKP. 1. Petr Ollic – has just signed a contract with Sargossa side Estrella Torreon. Ollic has safe hands and great reactions and his long reach allows him to tip shots which seemed destined for the top corner miraculously away.

DEF 2. Tamir El Zahar played great football at right back for league champions Pythons. At 26 he still has a few years of international service left in him. Fast and decisive, he’s better know for attacking from a wingback position than he is for his defending.

DEF 3. David Beecham. Beecham played every game this season for Skyte and at 31 this may be the only international competition he plays in. Has always been an asset to whatever team he plays for and gives 100%, but age is taking its toll.

DM. 4. Ruud Seedorf. Athletic Khaldoon’s player of the season. Tough tackling and a good distributor of the ball. Ruud has stamina to play 180 minutes never mind the 90, he has a habit of picking up cards unnecessarily.

DEF.5. Tomasz Poborsky. Has been Royal Khaldoon’s star defender for three years and rarely puts a foot wrong. He’s tall and powerful and a model centreback. Tipped to be captain when Ugo Stowell retires.

DEF. 6. Karim Zaki. Turned in great performances for Pythons until a shoulder injury ended his season. Back from injury and looking fitter than ever. Zaki is a workhorse whose positioning is second to none. Royal would love to partner him with Poborsky.

MID. 7. Alfonso Omar Sas has secured a dream move to Cafundeu. A fast paced winger with a wicked cross, Alfonso may have reached his peak but he is an exceptional talent and although he wont progress any further he is an asset.

MID. 8. Frank Le Tissier is the driving force behind Ridgemont Town. He plays out of position for the national side on the left and has to cut inside onto his right foot, but once he does expect a fierce effort on goal.

STR. 9. Ishmael Van Dyke – The 24 year old forward hit over 30 goals in the league this season and is always a goal threat. A powerful forward capable of barging his way through defenders, his finishing is World Class.

STR. Alberto Xisco, 2nd highest scoring forward in Queer Poco. Xisco has pace to burn and a bag of tricks but his stature makes heading the ball almost impossible. Skyte City have rewarded his efforts with an increased salary.

MID. 11. Ugo Stowell is a stalwart midfielder. Always willing to take a battering in the line of duty. Stowell is tenacious, a good passer and a born leader. However the Almondvale midfielder is now 32 and international retirement is beckoning. (CAPTAIN)


Subs.

DEF. 12. Fabricio Ramos – A staple in the Ridgemont defence. Fabricio is a talented wingback who plays with a great deal of intelligence – good passer and great tackler. Unlikely to shift Poborsky or Zaki from the first team.

GKP. 13. Brad Johnson – spent half the season out with injury and lost his first team place to Ollic. Consistent is the best word to describe Brad. He’ll be gutted at being on the bench.

STR. 14. Phillipe Deschamps – another Poconese player to make the move to Cafundeu. Deschamps is a reliable goalscorer who likes to stay forward loitering around the box. Will get a goal or two if he comes off the bench.

MID. 15. Nazim Benayoun. One of few good Valengren players this season. Benayoun can play as an attacking midfielder or a winger. He’s got plenty of pace but it has been commented his final ball often goes astray.

STR. 16. Frederico. Will be disappointed not to be partnering Pythons team mate Van Dyke upfront. Frederico is similarly a powerful attacker, but he has the added element of trickery.

Club Team: Loudon Leopards
Bio: Chapman makes his interregional coaching debut. He did serve as an assistant to Nelson Yaschter during World Cup 45, but when Jeremy McAllister was ready to become an assistant, Chapman became the odd man out. With Loudon, he has taken a team that was beginning to fall down the table in the NPL and got them back to the top. Well, almost, they’re coming off a 2nd place finish. Eddie was a starting defender for the team in World Cups 40-42.

Bio: It’s been a little while since Dalton has been named an assistant coach, but he has some experience in the role. He was the starting goalkeeper for us in World Cups 40 and 41, and the Baptism of Fire, so he and Chapman know each other quite well.

Bio: Gratton has had quite an impressive career with the Eagles, having coached the likes of Jeremy McAllister and Chris Kusler, and he has appeared as an assistant coach before, but not under any Nelson Yaschter led team.

Bio: Surprising that James Hargrove, who led the Rockets in World Cup 46 is not getting the starting nod here, but people continue to think that Bennett represents the future of Newmanistanian goalkeeping. It is believed that Eddie Chapman has a larger motive here too. Which would be purchasing Bennett to his Loudon Leopards from Seminole Bay, something that he could test out here by seeing how she responds to him. Reportedly, Hargrove is a little agitated about this snub.

Bio: A vast majority of those caps have been with him in a sub role. Brett has gotten very limited opportunity to start at the national team level, mainly because Brian Carson felt he was too undisciplined, which spoiled the whole first half of his career. Nelson Yaschter has thought better of the tall aggressive defender, and now Eddie Chapman gives him a chance to start.

Usually, he is smart about it, but it will probably see him get booked every now and then, and can score the odd goal.

Bio: Loughran made the jump from sub to starter under Yaschter very impressively, and became the first Newmanistanian to sign with a club in Daehanjeiguk, which is quite an honor. He can be physical, but is very smart about it and has remarkable defensive awareness. Loughran has tremendous speed and agility, and is one of the first people to get to practice every morning and one of the very last to leave. He is already the all-time leading scorer for defenders in Newmanistanian history.

Bio: At 16, Selvy won the league’s Rookie of the Year award with the Mariners, which is pretty impressive because usually the voters in the media get consumed by goal scoring numbers. Robert has maintained a high level of steady performance since then, which he has taken to Dancougar, where he has had a steady career. Has clicked rather well with Yaschter. Selvy is not an excessively aggressive defender, but don’t think you can push him around either, he demonstrates great composure.

Bio: Quite a story. It was only in the years up to World Cup 46 that Roberts really began to look like a player capable of playing at this level, and Nelson Yaschter gave him a role as a substitute. Midway through qualifying, Roberts play as a sub convinced Nelson to let him start, and he continued to produce. Nick is clearly one of those players you would call a “late bloomer”. Two very good well known teams noticed him, Port Royal of Dancougar and Dunboor FC of Cafundeu, where perhaps Chris Kusler and Jeremy Brooker had roles for each of those respective teams. The Port Royal bid was accepted just before the Dunboor FC bid arrived, and that’s where he’s ended up.

Bio: The scary thing for the world, perhaps, is that the great Brett Prescott has more then just one kid. The second of Brett Prescott’s three children, Brittany also appeared on the 8th Di Bradini Cup & the Cup of Harmony rosters as a reserve, but did not see any action in either, then started in Valanora for the 9th Di Bradini Cup. The third, Brian, is currently in Starblaydia with the current Di Bradini team. Don’t think for a moment either, that just because Brittany is female that she is any less of an aggressive agitator then her father and her older brother have been. In fact, Brett jokes that as Billy’s younger sister, and his only daughter, Brittany may have become the toughest of the three of them.

After a stint in Nethertopia, Brett has returned to Newmanistan, for the Thoroughbreds, and continues to be a great goal-scorer. He may also be a head-case. Rockets fans will be curious to see if Brett can resurrect his career here, and if he does, if Nelson would possibly consider him for World Cup 47.

Bio: Matthew is a very talented player who early in his career played for Chapman in Loudon, prior to moving to Shuukyuu Kishin. So much so, that he was benched in the second half of World Cup 46 in favor of Jeremy McAllister, Jr, when many expected Junior to not start at all. Yaschter had no choice. Chapman knows what Turner is capable of but perhaps he is forgetting about the fact that Turner and Carlson absolutely hate each other. Can they resolve their differences, or is this a terrible mistake in the making?

Litton is also commended for being a true leader on the pitch, impressive for someone of his age.

Turner: Carlson being on the team is such bull, and I have to play up front with him. How does Eddie not remember what happened during the Cup of Harmony? (#37) He was an assistant then too.

Loughran: I am very surprised by the move, I thought Brett was done from our national teams. But we must play through it, man.

Turner: I would but he will deliberately sabotage my efforts. Just watch.

Loughran: I don’t know. I think he might have motivation to take this opportunity very seriously and be a good teammate for all of us.

LaFave: As the captain, I will do my part to make sure we have team chemistry. To be honest with you, coach hasn’t made my job easy. I know Carlson is unpopular and Hargrove is upset about Jenn starting in front of him. I don’t really agree with either.

Turner: So why don’t you tell him that!

LaFave: You have to respect the will of the coach, Matt.

Prescott (Billy): I’ll just punch Carlson in the mouth if he tries some shit.

LaFave: Not on the field, though.

Loughran: The goalkeeper thing worries me. I feel for Jason man, he’s getting stiffed bigtime.

Prescott (Billy): It’s the whole thing about Jennifer being considered our next great keeper before she truly was. Eddie’s responding to that media hype around her and probably considers Jason his fallback option. Since Jason is older, he’s not as sexy, figuratively speaking, of an option as Jennifer.

Turner: I like Eddie, but I wonder if this is his inexperience at this level showing.

LaFave: It is. Eddie expects us all to just automatically play together as Newmanistanians and forget about the facts that some of us don’t care for each other.

Loughran: I’m gonna go over to Carlson just for the heck of it, see if I can get him to talk to Matthew.

Turner: I have no desire to talk to him.

Loughran: I understand, but you two are going to be playing up front together. You have to at least be able to say the bear minimum to one another.

Turner: Pass me the ball, jackass. How about that?

Prescott (Billy): Perfect!

Loughran: No, not perfect. Let me go get him. Maybe he’s a changed man, we’ll see.

LaFave: Good luck. (Loughran walks towards Carlson)

Loughran: Hi Brett! Long time no see, huh? Welcome back to the team!

Carlson: Who are you again?

Loughran: Shawn Loughran.

Carlson: You don’t play in the NPL, huh?

Loughran: No, I play in Daehanjeiguk. I just wanted to welcome you back, it’s good to see you get another chance.

Carlson: You realize I am one of only three starters on the team that plays in the NPL.

Loughran: Wow yeah I guess there’s not a lot.

Carlson: So when the Oxen Cup starts, I play for Brett Carlson. Got it? You don’t think I realize you were just hanging out with Turner and LaFave.

Loughran: We want to make you comfortable back with the team.

Carlson: No you just want me to be one of you. I am here for one reason. To make myself look good so when Yaschter doesn’t pick me for World Cup 47, he can look like even more of the idiot then he already is.

Loughran: Well fine, but Turner is worried you’ll be a bad teammate up front.

Carlson: I’ll be the best teammate he’s ever had on the field. Because in the end, it makes me look good. Now if you excuse me, I have to send a text before the meeting starts.

[Palmouth]

Palmouth had it's first practise for the OXEN Cup today, playing a match against the Under 21 squad. the Main Team beat the youngers 5-0.

After the match, a arguement broke out in the dressing rooms during a discussion about the event

David Lee, the Manager, was speaking about the group stages, when Freddie King thought that the other teams were better. David and the other boys were so unhappy, they started to argue with him over the matter. Soon enough, it turned into a fight between David, Freddie and Prince Simon Davids. David was seriously injured in the fight and went to hospital, where he still is at this very moment. the PFF (Palmouth Football Federation) has now sent Freddie home for Misconduct, and Freddie has been sent to prision for abuse. Prince Simon was also injured but has now left hospital and has returned to the hotel the team is staying in. Freddie has been replaced in midfield by English star David Beckham.

Freddie has also been supended from the Palmouth National Team till after the Baptism of Fire.

Girls ready to take on the Oxen Cup XI challenge

Jeruselem has sent it's best junior female team under the guidance of first time International coach Princess Marie-Antoinette Dallas. The team includes Jennifer Darian, daughter of Ariddian Jane Darian and Hanna Dallas, the daughter of Hikfie Dallas who lives in Bostopia. The Kools have returned to football with Katrina Kool, daughter of cyclist Kylie in the team. For some reason, all the Kool girls have names starting with K.

The team features Shimi Rothschild, who's parents work with the Rothschild banking dynasty. Instead of becoming another financier, she's taken to sport for her challenges. It doesn't mean she's not obsessed with money but she's not quite as obsessed as her parents. Shimi said
"It's all about mind and body. I need to be fit and strong. Maybe a Rothschild can get the World Cup for Jeruselem. I can only try."

Jeruselem was placed in GROUP E with the familiar Bears Armed team who should be our biggest threat. Two unknowns Palmouth and Albundania make up the group. The current have nothing in common with the Oxen Cup IX team who finished runner-up to Qazox apart from Princess Marie being the lone common element. Marie has been getting tips from her mother Dazza and husband Ryan Greenly, both ex-Jeruselem coaches.

Marie said
"It's not going to be easy. As a new coach, your first tournament is big. The Oxen Cup is no backwater cup, it's big. We have a lot huge names here for this cup and sending in a rookie team is a big risk. This team is better suited for the U21 cup but we need to get our youth out there to experience the real world. We didn't get this team ready in time for U21 cup so they are in the Oxen cup."

Captain Jen Darian said
"It's a big thing for me. My mother was big name in Ariddian football but I have make my name as a Jeruselemite. Everyone expects big things from me. Training is one thing, the real world is another. We're just kids compared to other teams but we're not going to scared of them. We're here to win like all of them. Jeruselem have done well in this Oxen cup with two wins and one runner-up. We want to the champs. This is no holiday."

Some quarters in Jeruselem have been critical of the weird team strip the girls are wearing which isn't the World Cup but the Women's World Cup one. The coach defended the use of the old strip
"Hey look, these are girls here. There's nothing wrong with having a different look! The opposition might say, oh look at those cute kitty kats ... they'll be useless. Well, we aren't kitty cats on the field. The most dangerous Jeruselem teams have been all female."

[Secristan]

Secristan is not like most countries that have such a unprofitable manner of choosing a national team based on merit. Instead, the Secristan Department of Sports (SDOS) holds an auction and the players must bid their way onto the team. To ensure players of decent ability, in order for bids to be valid, they must be between the ages of 18 and 38 and have at least one year of professional soccer playing experience. In the World Cup, though, since many of our players have gone on to play internationally, the trend has been for our rosters to be similar because the best players have become the richest players. Make no mistake, everyone still must bid their way into their spots.

Players that play internationally have been noted. Secristani players are always seeking international offers, because they can then get compensated. In order to play for teams in Secristan they must PAY to be on the team. Due to this, transfer fees never apply, and you can sign the player straight up.

LB: Shawn Young (Cafundeu), #3, 23- Complete newcomer, but he was the surprising winning bidder. Records show he had a decent collegiate career.
LCB: Shawn Wooliver (Dancougar), #6, 27- Gritty player, aggressive but not crazy about it. Started four years ago as well.
RCB: Trevor Orton (Cafundeu), #5, 27- Played on two Di Bradini teams, but had never won an auction to play for the senior team until now. Those Cafundeu taxes will do that.
RB: Eric Fraser (Newmanistan), #2, 24- TEAM CAPTAIN. Also was the captain of the Di Bradini 7 winners. Extremely aggressive tackler. Married to Stacie Kerrigan of Cassadaigua.
LM: Matthew Marino (Cafundeu), #14 , 26- Speedy midfielder has been a reserve since a strong showing in the 7th Di Bradini Cup team.
CAM: Scott Tollisen, #13, 23- Another player from that Di Bradini championship squad, who starts with the senior team for the first time.
CDM: Chris Coventry (Candelaria And Marquez), #19, 24- Excellent two way player. Plays with a lot of heart.
RM: Todd Carney (Cafundeu), #12, 31- Speedster looked good four years ago and returns.
LS: Michael Cardona (Newmanistan), #9, 23- With neither Rogan or Walker starting anymore, look for Cardona to emerge as our top threat.
RS: Kevin Tucker (Cafundeu), #16, 24- First time starter, but has played quite well recently.

GK: Michael Rossiter (Cafundeu)- #1, 36- Starter since Baptism of Fire 30. His age has slowed his reflexes, and for the sake of the country, he did not attempt to outbid Carver.
CB: Chris Carmin, #7, 37- He was still eligible to bid, and did. Most arrogant player on team, and that says a lot.
CB: Jeff Fisher, #4, 28- Very conservative player. He started four years ago.
MID: Brian Marcott, #15, 32- Another conservative player. Started eight years ago, and was a sub last time.
MID: Curtis Coleman (Dancougar), #17, 35- Playmaker. Should see frequent playing time.
ST: Kevin Walker (Dancougar), #10, 36- Finisher. Still has that shooters touch. Starter since Baptism of Fire 30 until now.

Fifty years ago, at least in Qazoxian time, the Oxen Cup began with 8 teams battling in a double elimination tourney. Cafundeu, possibly benefited from an easier draw, defeated Qazox in the final to take home the first cup. Little did anyone know at the time, but that tourney helped to spark the future successes of teams such as Jeru FC and Sel Appa.

Over the years, quite a few powerful national teams have made their international Debuts not in the Baptism of Fire, but the Oxen Cup! Teams like: Daehanjeiguk, Kura-Pelland, and Sorthern Northland (Oxen Cup 2). Current and former World Cup champions have also participated; teams like Starblaydia, Az-cz and Dancougar. Cafundeu and Jeruselem, two of the most popluar teams in the world have multiple Oxen Cup appearances and titles. And many nations, like Newmanistan, Prux, Taeshan, Lovisa and Nethertopia and more have all participated.

Basically, the Oxen Cup is a chance to see new teams make a splash, fan favorites battling for pride and in some cases, up-and-coming teams and players challenging themselves or the last gasp of glory for players that seek that one last thrill before they retire. In short, the Oxen Cup is not just a tourney, its a synopsis of life itself.

What stories will be written in the next 50 years? What future Hall-of-Famer will get his or her start on the path of glory in this tourney? Which team or teams will be talk of the tourney? The answers to those questions begins in less than 24 hours.
