Bvriania's Sevens team features a much changed squad to their previous tournament, notably the absence of many star internationals. Erik Decko, the scrum-half resting after a long season of boxkicking to opposition wingers, replaced by a more than suitable player. Danny Rayner, one of the two Buccaneers in the squad. His offloading and speed sure to break through to the tryline. Aidan Scully had a far more successful season, pulling the South Sea Ostriches to number one. He shined during their 46-16 drubbing of the Minotaurs, including a perfect ten out of ten kicks. His replacement is the one and only Buck Jackson, mostly a winger and fullback, though capable of filling in, well, everywhere. Battled with Joshua Malli for the out-half jersey in the Tornadoes disappointing season, a battle he triumphed in, owing to his selection. The Hurricane Umaga and his 110 kilograms be missed in the centre, but Pete Davis is going to make an impact. Be it through goal kicking or some mad break, he'll mark his name in the Sevens world. Finally, Sam Jones stays on as captain. He'd have wished for a better season with the Pouncers, but still has tons of talent to give. Oh, and speed. Lots of speed. Among the forwards the only of note is Manu Movu, nineteen, and one speedy hooker. Joseph Rasolo will be one to watch from the bench. On his day the best attacker around, but it's never his day.

Bvriania's first match of the AVBF Sevens saw them go up against Wrexwic, eeking out a narrow 19 points to 15 victory. Wrexwix struck first, their nameless winger profiting off some dominant forward play. Movu's experience, or lack of, was exposed as bought a dummy and let the enemy gain a 5-0 lead. Their conversion was well wide, and Bvriania spent no time striking back. Jones caught the high ball, and glided through two Wrexwic defenders, passing to Davis running in support. His offload into Movu gave the debutante the space to go nearly the whole way, before the nameless winger caught up. One final pass gave Jones his first try of the tournament. Jackson, on kicking duty for some reason, was unable to add the extras. Bvriania took the lead minutes later, the Buccaneer boys combining to cut through Wrexwix in a move featuring four offloads and two grubbers. Rayner got the honour of taking them into the lead, his buddy Pete extending it a little further. The momentum wouldn't last, the Wrexwix seven intercepting a sloppy prop pass to add his name to the scoresheet again. Another miss by their out-half made it 12-10 at halftime, Bvriania leading.

Wrexwix came out to play, and made that evident straight as they caught the kickoff. Two penalties in a row from Buck Jackson gave away a good seventy metres, and the first hattrick of Group C went to the their wing. A third miss in a row left just 3 points between the sides, within range for a sneaky dropgoal. It wasn't to be, though Rayner would get the score all the same. Joshua Malli came off the bench to make a fantastic input, putting three players into space with his three passes, with a perfectly timed chip and chase to put Davis in position to pass to Rayner for his second. One conversion later, and Bvriania's lead stood at 19-15. The Wrexwix runner nearly had the last laugh. Joseph Rasolo came on with half a minute left, missed a pass and failed to roll away. After the aforementioned Wrexwixian stepped him, his rugby career looked set to end before he turned twenty. Luckily his blazing speed and 100 kg frame smashed the winger into touch before he could dot down for a win. Bvriania were one from one, just about.

Elsewhere in group C, Falkasia stomped Vangaziland 33-7 despite no known history of playing rugby, ever. Beginner's luck. Hosts Neu Engollon and powerhouses Racao, ranked 8th and 3rd in the world respectively, traded try after try for their game, drawing 26 all in the end. Bvriania end the afternoon 2nd in the group, on track for the cup playoffs, and hopefully, the World Cup.

THE CHIEFDOM OF COPPER CUPRUM
NATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS TEAM

This is the first time that Copper Cuprum will be participating in an international rugby sevens competition, as well as the AVBF Sevens. Rugby is the most popular sport in Copper Cuprum, and although rugby league is the more popular code in the Chiefdom, both rugby union and rugby sevens still have a decent following. Copper Cuprum had been long isolated from the international community since it is a small island archipelago located deep in the middle of the Lazarus Ocean, far from any regular shipping lanes since man first sailed ships. The nation was only discovered by the Fleftic Navy in 1914, when they were searching for the daughter of President Rufus Wole Mensah, whose ship was wrecked in the general vicinity of the islands. Arriving in the capital of the islands, they discovered that Chief Zed had made the President's daughter his queen, generating a sudden alliance between the two countries. And Copper Cuprum was also rich in copper, so that was a good thing for Abanhfleft too...

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation:
The Chiefdom of Copper Cuprum
Demonym: Copperite
Kits: Initially, the Copperite national rugby sevens team was not supposed to wear any kits as ordinary people know them. Instead they would have played wearing only white loincloths and nothing else. However, in the interests of modesty and compliance with the international standard, the Copperite team has elected to choose a new uniform with alternating black and white hoops and white shorts.
Team colors: Black and white
Style modifier: +1.00 (A balanced team with a slight focus on offense)
Head coach: Count Tumale Boweba (47 y/o, Copper Cuprum)
Notes: It is Copperite tradition to slit the throat of a live chicken before a game and then spread the spilled blood on the field. However, after the Valladar authorities advised the Copperite Football Federation against performing this tradition after local audiences were shocked by this tradition, it has been decided that in place of this tradition, Copperite players will now cut off the head of a rubber chicken before a game and then toss the head around like a hot potato. However, Copperite players will now perform the chicken sacrificing ritual whether or not the other team (or the event organizers for that matter) likes it. The Copperites hope to turn this tradition into their version of the haka.

ACCIDENT WITH SOUTHLAND TEAM U-17 CAUSES COMMOTION BETWEEN RUGBY COMMUNITY OF ALICE BAY
Crux decided to change their uniforms to the AVBF Sevens in honor of the boys

Image
Johathan Cape (image) will use his Union colours starting from Round 3 of AVBF Sevens

Earlier yesterday* morning, the U-17 rugby team of the Southland Rugby Union suffered an accident on the road linking Cape Navarre to Edellion. The team returned home after a friendly tournament against teams from Cape Navarre when the micro-bus lost control, broke the guard rail and fell from a height of 6 meters. Fortunately, the road is reasonably busy, and within minutes the rescue was under way. The fifteen young men and their trainer, who also served as a driver, were pulled out of the hardware and taken to hospitals in the region, mostly with fractures caused by the accident. Most are already in the regular state and soon to be discharged, but at least two victims are in an induced coma, with severe injuries to the chest and legs.

Since the accident news, the Rugby community in Alice Bay is fully mobilized in favor of youth recovery. Blood donation campaigns have raised more than 400 blood bags only yesterday. And this was reflected in the national team that is disputing the AVBF. Valls Rugby, supplier of Crux, Lisander and Southland Rugby Union uniforms, produced and shipped, at ABRU's request and in record time, SRU uniform sets for use by the Aliceans during the AVBF and then auctioned off to assist ABRU and SRU with the medical costs of young people. The uniforms were not used in the morning game or the first game of the afternoon. A victory and a defeat against Abanhfleft still disputed with Alice Bay wearing the uniforms of RWC25. Alice Bay keeps growing at a timid pace in Sevens, but now they already have a great motivation. Bring a good result in honor of the boys from Southland.

Burgunden, Neu Engollon

The team stumbled into the locker room, wide eyed and mouths agape. Several were barely capable of walking in under their own power, and almost universally their skin had transformed from a peachy white to black and blue. In stunned unison, they slammed down with great force onto the benches.

Dieter entered in last, clearly exhilarated, stomping to and fro between the benches with a great deal of mirth.

"We won We won guys! Holy shit... what a game!" He exclaimed jovially.

All eyes immediately turned to him, their shell-shocked gazes looking more similar to an overly dramatic horror movie than a victorious team.

"Holy shit..." Several mumbled without much emotion.

"That's rugby boys!" Lange exclaimed again, slapping them one by one on their shoulders.

No excitement was returned.

"How the hell are we not dead?" Kovalenko asked, sprawled spread eagle in the center of the locker room as he glared distantly towards the showers.

"Where the hell were the girls?" Ilya asked, a few paces away slumped rather unceremoniously against a stack of lockers.

"Where the fuck are my hands?" Maksim moaned, doubled-over half-way to the shower room.

Liev moaned as Dieter walked past. "Dieter, I didn't sign up for this shit. I wanted beer and women. Not to be driven near to death by an army of men the size of small vehicles. If I wanted that, I'd just go back to school..."

Lange dismissed it with an errant hand. "Gentlemen! We won! Your wounds and battle scars will heal, but the Vangazilanders were defeated! Show some pride!"

"I don't have any pride left to show," Fawz groaned, desperately trying to use his good hand to pull off his uniform top. "I just want it to stop hurting..."

Underneath he had welts the size of small fruit up and down his torso.

"It will get easier everyone! The first game is always the hardest, I promise! Once you get used to the intensity through which the game is played, you come to expect it."

His comment was met absolutely with groans from the entire room. Halvor, who had managed to prop himself up against the wall, abruptly went silent and fell face-first to the rubberized floor below.

Dieter extended a hand and demanded, "Is he still fucking drunk?"

Hans scooted over to his teammate, using only the locomotion of his arms to propel him. His lower body was completely useless, and trailed behind him like a dismembered zombie.

"Yea... he reeks of alcohol." He acknowledged with a massive snort, transitioning himself to his back and he joined Haagli in a pile.

"Then how the fuck did he score half our points?" Lange asked, equal parts shocked and horrified.

His only answer were shrugs.

"Holy shit," the default team captain stated flatly as the weight of realization hit him like a forty-pound sledgehammer. "Holy shit... I think I need to sit down."

"Ladies and gentlemen of Bvriania and beyond, a very good afternoon to you, and welcome back AVBF Sevens tournament. Joe Murray here, commentating solo from Pitch C of the Confederacy Park. Earlier today our boys scraped past an inspired Wrexwic team, winning by virtue of their missed conversions. Not the ideal start, but that's the past! A whole hour and a half ago. Falkasia sit third in the group right now, one from one, with a debut to be proud of! Never played rugby before, but they put thirty three points on a dreadful Vangazilander team. Not bad, but they were up against some fellow nobodies. We'll be the their first real test, and their first thrashing, I promise you that! Let's gone on with it! Here are Jones and Lange leading out their sides!"

The two stood next to the ref and called as he tossed the coin. Smiling as it landed heads, Jones took the ball and threw it to new starting out-half Malli and got into position. The whistle sounded, and Malli drilled it high and far, into the arms of Rolf Klein. On his first carry he made it near the halfway line, and passed to Halvor Haagli, the centre stumbling into the arms of Colbert and losing the ball. Solomin Federov was able to collect, not before Thor's propping brother Manning contributed his first tackle of the match. A scramble by Dieter Lange kept the ball in their possession, despite losing a good thirty metres. Klein had the ball in hand, and with one miracle thump downfield, set up a lineout in Bvrianian territory.

"Huh, all those setbacks and they've come up on top. Maybe there's something in their knowledgeless strategy. Movu's throw, and Rayner has it now, going for the Falkasia line... and he'll cut through it! His Bucc buddy Davis in support! Maksim Shapovalov the winger will get his first taste of action, and he commits to that tackle with some force but he won't stop the offload, and Davis will have a clean run in!" Davis touched the ball down and was victim to a bearhug from Rayner before he could convert to make it 7-0. "Word of advice Falkasia, that's not how to defend an offload. This is Sevens, these are the Buccaneers, expect the offload!"

Malli restarted play, Klein on the catch again, followed up by more of the same. Backwards, backwards, backwards. A step and wide pass by Lange looked to turn that around, if only the recipient wasn't Haagli. Well, the intended recipient. The ball flew through his hands and into touch. Out on the full, Bvrianian lineout twelve metres out. In and out it went to Movu, the youthful hooker slicing through Falkasia and sprinting the whole way, making it two tries to nil. Davis had no trouble with the conversion, and play restarted.

"Solid showing this! Can these Falkers string some phases together without some critical error? Let's see, Klein is kicking here, and Jones has caught it! Here we go, Jones is eating those metres, and he'll spread it infield to Movu, to Malli, to...Lange? That is an intercept, THAT IS AN INTERCEPT. He has a straight run to the line but he doesn't have the legs, surely!? No, but Shapovalov does, and he'll dot down for Falkasia's first. Well maybe there's something in this game. Klein'll convert, and that'll be the half, fourteen to seven. I think O'Driscoll will have some 'advice' for the team."

While the Falkasians cracked open some cans, Bvriania's coach got vocal with his advice, complete with some reshuffling in the form of Buck Jackson replacing his club companion at out-half. The two seemed to be swapping form, and Jackson brought his form to a fantastic second half by Bvriania. Sam Jones led the second half effort, scoring his only try a minute after the restart. Pete Davis bagged a second running a line with Jones. The tackle from Haagli slipped off and he had an easy walk in under the posts. Coming off the bench, Rasolo benefitted from a tiring Falkasia, gassing Shapovalov to land in the corner. Davis missed his first conversion of the night as a result. At 33-7, Bvriania looked set to reverse the Falkasia-Vangaziland score. Buck has a bit more to say though.

"This has been a lovely rousing ladies and gentlemen! Here's the Buck boy himself, and he'll hand-off Haagli, who seems to have passed out, he's on his way! Oh he's going for the chip and chase, and he collects it! Only Luy the winger is left but he looks too tired for tackling. Buck'll go for a second chip! No chase, he'll just ground that between the posts. Davis to convert, and that'll be a wrap! Now that is what Bvriania can do! If anyone had doubts after match one, bury them! Tune back in with me for our last match of the day in around ninety minutes, or stay if you care for the minnows. No matter what you do, don't turn to the football. Goodbye for now!"

There was an odd silence as the exhausted Falkasians sat in their locker room. Although badly bruised and swollen, most of the players remained coherent. However, conscious was about the limit of their ability to comprehend the world around them.

In the center of the room was Halvor Haagli, passed out and partially buried underneath a mound of empty beer cans towering nearly half a meter up. On either side were smaller satellite piles, trapped in the orbit of the hammered center.

"We're one and one guys... I understand you're defeated, but we could be doing much, much worse." Dieter offered, raising slightly from his single chair positioned towards the main entrance.

"They just kept coming..." Rolf mumbled in horror, his eyes still wide in shellshock. "I tried... I just couldn't bring them down."

He rapidly chugged the can of beer in his hand before slamming it against his forehead to crush it. With a flick it was sent rocketing towards the large pile where it impacted and ricocheted off.

Lange stood and pulled his shirt down to straighten out any wrinkles. They didn't have uniforms. The only thing they had that could be considered uniforms amounted to pieces of colored duct tape which they wore around their waists to keep the opposition from grabbing at their cloths.

"Losing is hard..." he began, pacing towards the middle of the room. "But you wanna know what's harder? Picking our sorry asses up off the ground after a loss and winning! We may not win another game... sure. I'll give them that."

He turned at his waist, pointing towards the direction of the pitch. The hem of his shirt lifted up, revealing painful welts on top of painful welts.

"We can play them ten times and lose nine... but what about that tenth time? You think there's something to be said for the under-dog?"

He paused, gently prodding the now snoring Halvor his the toe of his cleat. A few errant cans came cascading down as they were disturbing, scattering and rolling across the rubberized floor.

"Look guys... we... and by we, I mean you," he directly addressed the team with an outstretched hand. "Have no fucking idea what you're doing. We literally are the definition of unpredictability. How can anyone we play have any idea how to play us, if we don't even know how to play the game ourselves?"

He could tell that his words were starting to make an impact. Despite the universal inebriation, many of the players were starting to sit up straighter.

"If we go out there, and play our own game with our own strategy, we have the best shot at winning! There's no footage of us for them to watch. Chances are they hardly consider us a threat anyways! Why would they? We've never played rugby on the world stage, let alone on any stage or even at all! Everything and anything we bring to the pitch is new and untested. Guaranteed shocker."

A chorus of pressurized hisses temporarily droned him out as another round was passed around the room. He now had their attention.

"So tonight... let's get shit-faced. But let's also watch footage and learn our opponent. If we learn this game from our opponents, we can have them teach it to us. We can have them teach us their strengths and weaknesses and tells. We can learn to play the game through their eyes without interference... and we will win!"

In the same instance, he extended an arm and seized a flying beer meant for Erwin on the other side of the room. He glanced down, popped the top, and poured a long, frothy swig down his throat. A second later, he raised and emptied it all of his head and face before slamming the empty can onto the floor in front of him.

"Why? Because we're fucking crazy!!!!" He screamed, releasing the built-up tension within him.

The others simply watched in an inebriated daze.

"And here I thought we were gonna hear the story about how the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor..." Solomin whispered to Liev. "Tough get goin' and all that garbage."

Liev shrugged. "Sure beats raiding the OTPs..."

THE AVBF SEVENS SO FAR
Tiago Dons, to therugbyzone.ls

Eleazar Castell is leading the team in this tournament. In the image above, we can see him defending "his" club, Castell Rugby.

It was a great Friday for rugby fans! Lisander is going all out in search of the Maracalo Cup, and the situation is well underway. In the first day, three consecutive victories already practically assured the team in the dispute of the Cup in Burgunden, Neu Engollon.

Overall, Lisander is fourth in the group stage so far, with a point balance of +69. 7 less than Frenline Delpha, leader of the Pool E, 9 less than Abanhfleft, and 12 less than New Anglican, who has +81. This average is not better because the Lisanderian team was late on arrival at the Park and did not have much time to warm up before the first game. Luckily the match against Islana Lunigo was the last one in the morning and the boys managed to get there in time. What we saw was a hard game, with pressure from both sides. But the Irises showed what came and with a great performance of Eleazar Castell, won by 29-21.
Islana Lunigo 21–29 Lisander

Tries:
Castell 0:46, 3:57, 7:00+
Alte 11:20
Cons: Lasses (3/4)
PK: Lasses 13:48
Tries:
Dedrice 2:12, 7:55
Foxington 12:51
Con: Tevo 3/3

The players left the game straight for lunch and after a few cans of Yeckr, the team had time to rest before heading to the second game. The very weak Romaian team (who did not even have names on shirts) could only score a try because the Irises "stepped on the brakes" at the end. Patricio Bernauer even put the reserves to play. Eden Stadler, who had been downgraded to the reserves since the Olympics, had a good turnaround with two tries, who joined Castell's two tries and Alex Rosso's two tries. Rosso himself had five of the six kicks converted. Final score, 40-7.
Romaian 7–40 Lisander

Tries:
Castell 0:22, 2:17
Stadler 4:11, 6:32
Rosso 8:43, 12:25
Cons: Rosso (5/6)
Tries:
Player #7 13:37
Con: Player #4 (1/1)

And what happened in the second game also happened in the third. Against Nassaki, Lisander followed in a slow step, making only punctual attacks, avoiding tiring against a weak opponent. This time it was 2 tries from Castell. The man of the match was Christian Alte, with three scored. The other try of the match was scored by Maximiliano Luna. Maxi took advantage of a void in defense and also left his. Although in that game its function was to kick, and hit two of the three conversions that kicked. Rosso hit their three in the second stage and once again Lisander scored 40 points, this time against 12. Nassaki, another weak team, took advantage of all the opportunities he had scoring through penalty kicks. There were 4 penalty goals in total, but since they did not have names on the shirts, we could not identify the kicker, except for their number.
Lisander 40–12 Nassaki

PK: Player #3 2:58, 7:00+,
11:20, 14:00+
Tries:
Alte 0:26, 3:20, 8:55
Luna 2:13
Castell 10:29, 12:47
Cons: Luna (2/3), Rosso (3/3)

Frenline Delpha so far
31-7 v Nassaki
33-14 v Darkmania
38-5 v Romaian
This Saturday, the Lisanderian team will face the Darkmanian rookies and the the strong side of Frenline Delpha, more experienced and with more training, also won the three games so far. Comparing the results will be a tough game. In the writing of the TRZ.ls bets have already begun. My guess is 28-21 for us.

Hello, welcome back, you've just joined us as we get ready our last game of the first day here AVBF Rugby Sevens here in Burgenden, the first stop on the NSRB Sevens Series. And we've got a game in store for you today: Mattijana vs Elejamie. Elejamie, Cup winners at the last tournament and bronze medallists in the last Olympics, versus Mattijana, whose women's team won the gold medal at the 11th Olympics back in Paripana; indeed, the Mattijanan backs, as well as coach Dominika Simonic, are part of that gold medal-winning team. And both sides are hoping to get a win today, as Elejamie want to recover from the disappointing 21-21 draw against the Natanians and Nosts, whereas Mattijana are hoping to get a streak going after their 27-15 win against the Alpine Union earlier this afternoon...

And now, the two captains leading their team out onto Exhibition Pitch B here at Confederacy Park. No changes here from their last games, with Ruiz, Decker and Molina up front and Kramer, Toda, Koppel and Caerofim behind for Elejamie; meanwhile Schimpelsberg, Pecirep and Kravinski are the Mattijanan forwards, whereas Ljubjevic, Vrisilic, Uranj and Simjonic are the Mattijanan backs. Kroger, Correy, Crespin, Hayden and McCracken are on the Elejamian the Elejamian substitutes, whereas Dragovic, Kreuzmann, Xhaka, Regner and Blaszikov are on the Mattijana bench. Both captains shake hands with the ref, as he pulls out a coin for the toss. Here's the coin toss... and it's heads, which means that Gary Toda will kick off for Elejamie. Elejamie captain Diego Molina shakes hands with Katarina Ljubjevic, the Mattijanan skipper, as the two prepare for kickoff. And now we wait for the whistle...

0:00 - And we're off with a spectacular boot from Gary Toda!

>1:00 - ... And we have our first penalty, 30m from the Elejamian goalposts. Jessika Vrisilic to kick. Lines up her shot, gives it a mighty boot. And it's through as Mattijana take the lead, 3-0. Absolutely brilliant.

>3:00 - ... Kramer. Kramer gets brought down and the ball gets taken by Toda. Toda passes it over to Koppel, Koppel back over to Toda. Toda gets brought down but Caerofim just gets his hands to it. He makes it past Kravinski, past Schimpelsberg, getd brought down by Pecirep. What's this? Mical Caerofim just managed to pass it over to David Kramer just before he went down. Kramer goes underneath the posts and puts it down on the ground. And there's our first try of the match! A spectacular effort from David Kramer. 3-5.

...

And now Gary Toda with the conversion. 32m out. He's in a good position, he doesn't need to try and go for an angle, he can just kick. And that's what he does. And he makes it an easy two point. 3-7 to the home side now as Elejamie get their first set of points on the board.

>4:00 - A scrum now in the Elejamian 22. Mattijana win the ball. Ljubjevic. Ljubjevic passes it over to Uranj. Uranj makes her way up the field. Uranj gets tackled and Vrisilic grabs it. Over to Ljubjevic. Ljubjevic gets dragged down but she presses the ball onto the ground for a try. 8-7 to the home team now as we prepare for a conversion.

...

And now Vrisilic has to convert for her team. 31m out. She lines up the shot. He kicks. It's good, it's good, it's good, that's two more points for Mattijana. 10-7. An excellent kick from Jessika Vrisilic. The home crowd are certainly pleased with that.

>6:00 - ... Uranj. Uranj passes it over to Ljubjevic. Over to... Molina intercepts! He's now leading the Elejamian counterattack. He's now passing it over to Decker. Decker goes down and Ruiz gets a hand to it, passing it over to David Kramer. Kramer now passes it to Toda. Toda back to Kramer. Back and forth between the two. Toda goes down but Koppel manages to recover the ball. He attacks. He's at the try line. Is he going for the try? No! He passes to Kramer who puts the ball down immediately for his second try of the match. 10-12 now, thanks to some excellent teamwork from Paul Koppel and David Kramer.

...

Toda to convert again. Not as easy as the last attempt, he has to find a good angle from 34m out. He lines it up, he gives it a mighty boot and he adds another two points to the board. 10-14 to Mattijana now.

<7:00 - We're close to half-time. Vrisilic has the ball for Mattijana. She passes it over to Simjonic. Simjonic goes down and Vrisilic gets the ball back. She passes it over to Uranj. Uranj makes just outside of the Elejamian 22. She gets brought down by Decker but Simjonic recovers. She passes it to captain Katarina Ljubjevic. Is she going to run with it? No, she's booting it towards the posts... Ljubjevic drop goal! Just in the nick of time. 13-14.

And on that note, the ref blows his whistle for half-time. The score going into the break: Mattijana 13, Elejamie 14. Yes, one point separates these two teams, ladies and gentlemen. It's anyone's game and both teams are hoping to make things count in the second half; Mattijana to regain the lead, Elejamie to keep it. Now, both teams head back into the dressing room for a quick breather and we go back to the studio to discuss the highlights.

7:00 - And the second half's underway with a kick from Vrisilic. And, as you can see, there has been some changes during the break; for Elejamie, Riley Kroger has replaced Marcus Ruiz up front and Patrick Hayden has replaced Paul Koppel as center, whereas Mattijanan coach Dominika Simonic appears to have swapped out Jasmin Simjonic for Matej Blaszikov on the wing...

>9:00 - Vrisilic to kick now for Mattijana, 35m out. If she makes it then the home side will regain the lead. She's hoping to make that the case as she gets herself ready. She kicks. It's good, it's through, it's 16-14 to the home side. And Mattijana have now regained the lead.

>10:00 - Gary Toda now with the penalty. 33m out. He's at a tricky angle but it's nothing that should bother him. A deep breath, a boot and now three points to the away side. 16-17 now, with Elejamie back in front. Not the most comfortable of leads but it should give the away side something to build on.

>11:00 - Blaszikov has the ball. Passes it over to Uranj. Uranj passes it over to Ljubjevic. And the ball bounces out of her hands and onto the floor. "Thank you very much", says Patrick Hayden as he snatches it up. Hayden now over to Toda. Toda gets brought down by Kravinski. Caerofim recovers. Throws it all the way over to Kramer. Kramer beats Pecirep. Is Schimpelsberg going to catch up with him? David Kramer's now in the 22, he's made it past the try-line, he could score. No, he's running behind the posts and throwing himself down onto the ground for try number three. What a hat-trick from David Kramer. Three tries from the Elejamian scrum-half. 16-22 for Mattijana, who are starting to look a little worried.

Toda with the conversion. And since he's in a good position, he doesn't need to worry about angles. Indeed, he kicks it and the ball sails between the posts for another good two points. 16-24 now. Mattijana in some serious trouble, there's not much time left and they need to score as many points as quickly as they can.

>13:00 - Vrisilic with another penalty for Mattijana. An easy one for her, no need to worry about angles. She kicks. It's good. 19-24. Mattijana really need to score a last-minute try to salvage this game.

<14:00 - We're coming to the end of the match, Mattijana have the ball and they really need to score a try. Uranj. Uranj passes it over to Blaszikov. Blaszikov passes it back to Uranj. Uranj goes down and Vrisilic grabs the ball. She passes it over to Katarina Ljubjevic. Ljubjevic goes down and - Wait, what's this? Hayden steals the ball off her! Is he going to try and go for a last-minute try? He has plenty of space to do it and it could add a few more points to his team's tally. No, he boots the ball into touch. And that ball is sailing!

And on that note, there's the whistle, that's that for today! Final score: Mattijana 19, Elejamie 24. And Elejamie have retaken their spot at the top of the table. Mattijana slide down to third, just below the Natanians and Nosts. Both captains down there, Diego Molina and Katarina Ljubjevic, shaking hands with each other and the ref, perfectly showing off the good sportsmanship rugby's known for. And now both teams head back to their respective . But don't go anywhere, folks; we'll be going back to the studio to look at the highlights. And the AllahAkbarium vs the Alpine Union game will be up later, keep an eye out for that. I've been Matt Holland, back to the studio.

Burgunden Bar District
Burgunden, Neu Engollon

"Normally I'd be excited," shrugged Dieter as he leaned over and screamed into Rolf's ear, "but we beat Wrexwic... literally everyone has beat Wrexwic."

Rolf returned the dismissive shrug, focused forward towards the bank of televisions along the far wall as he took a long drawl from a partially full stein.

"I mean, let's be real. We're a bunch of alcoholic sods. If we beat Neu Engollon, it might be cause for celebration. No one has to know its rookie luck."

The Out-Half shrugged again with a nod. It was clear he was more interested in his beer and the bar scene than the ramblings of his teammate. Acknowledging this, Lange slammed the rest of his stein down and stood. "Whatever. Enjoy your beer. I'm gonna go make sure Halvor's still alive."

Towards the back of the gastro-pub was the rest of the team, having pitched in enough money between the twelve of them to reserve a table and bottle service. In greater Burgunden's nightclub district, they were able to find an enormous degree of anonymity that had been lost to them at the festival proper. Sure, they encountered the occasional fanboy or groupie who happened to recognize them, but otherwise it was back to being the nobodies they were in Falkasia. It was a camouflage they all desperately wanted to don.

The de-facto team captain approaching, watching as his players passed around pitchers of beer and filled their pints communally. A throng of women had surrounded both Ilya and Solomin, who were each spread out on benches trying to fit as many attractive girls as they could on their laps and between their arms. Even in the dim light, their eyes were glazed over as they spewed laughter and stories of days past in futile competition to impress each other's flock.

Kovalenko, Liev, and Maksim were nearby, packed into a smaller round booth as they each took turns sharing stories. For them, it was a relaxing evening away from the chaos of the pitches. In turn, they each presented the others with any number of the craft beers on offer and debating their individual merits and flavors.

Off to the right, past their booth and benches and outside through an antique French-style archway was Halvor. He was crouched on the glazed red brick patio, surrounded by belligerently drunk patrons from around the world, underneath a beer funnel bolted to a seven foot ladder. At the top was a scantily clad cheerleader, likely a hired actor for the festival given her color-coded attire, pouring in rapid succession a twelve pack of beer down the chute.

"Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug!" the crowd chanted in a variety of languages as Haagli gulped the contents with ease.

It was difficult to discern the many languages and accents, but Dieter was certain there were at least some Falkasians there in the mix as well.

It was marketing stunt performed to perfection. Who knows how many twelve packs it took, but in that instant Halvor became a local hero. As the crowd rushed in to congratulate him on his successful display of drinking prowess, he was swept up on his feet and paraded at the center of a massive throng of people. From all sides he was bombarded with free drinks, many of which he caught and swallowed immediately while others simply covered him in assorted liquors.

The bar bouncers were beginning to swarm the patio as the celebration spiraled out of control, and in the distance the sound of police sirens grew ominously as the crowd started transitioning into a drunken riot. By this point, the rest of the team had arrived from their revelry to back up Dieter as he forced his way through the miasma. In the center was Haagli, having now returned to his natural state of dead-weight and slowly dragging down a few other of his countrymen who had been nominated by proxy to champion him.

"Someone get Halvor!" Lange commanded while pointing at him. "We've out-lived our stay! Let's go."

From out of the corner of his eye, Erwin tossed Hans a roll of duct tape rugby style, who in turn rapidly went to work securing Halvor's limp limbs together for easy transit.

"We're good to go!" He called back to Lange, who was beginning to arrange for a rapid exit. "Hans and I got'em... let's go."

Dieter needed no further confirmation. He and Alex began forcing their way through the crowd against the grain. Out front a few squad cars had rolled up and the Gendarmes began exiting and assessing the patio for crowd control. By the point the officers were starting to enter the fray to calm everyone, the Falkasians were making a hasty exit at the other end of the foyer out the rear fire exit and into a dank alley. Taking a quick headcount, eleven of them had made it out.

"Where's Halvor?" Dieter panicked. "Has anyone seen Halvor?"

Erwin and Hans walked forward from the shadows, revealing a comatose Haagli duct-taped together like a pig on a spit. Between the two of them, he was carried like a rolled-up carpet.

Ilya sighed in relief. "I am so glad no one here knew who we were..."

Solomin nodded as he walked to edge of the alley and peeked around the corner. "We're in the clear guys... no one around to notice. Let's get back to the rooms."

The rest nodded, allowing Hans and Erwin to set the pace as they circled protectively around Halvor.

"Oh my god... what a night." Dieter moaned to himself, rubbing his forehead with a smirk as they attempted to backtrack to their lodgings.

Try Time
TV's #1 Source for Rugby News and Discussion

"Good evening Bvriania! Tonight we'll be discussing the first leg of the NSRB Sevens Tour for our glorious nation. The first half of the pool stages to be more specific. I'm Damian Knight, and joining me once more is former captain Duncan Mara. Say hello Duncan." The ex-captain gave a timid wave. "Right then, time to summarize!

"Prenoon this morning our boys opened with a win, one that convinced absolutely no one. Nineteen points to fifteen against newcomers Wrexwic, a win we can thank their nameless kicker and his shoddy boot for. Bright sides included the Buccaneers both having a beautiful debut, and Sam Jones continuing what have been some of the most prolific years in our rugby history. Magical support play from Pete Davis put Movu and Jones into the space needed to touch down for his first. Then in the most beautiful display of rugby since the championship ended, Davis and Rayner executed some filthy passing and kicking to let the scrum-half get on the scoreboard. From the bench, Malli orchestrated the last try, Rayner's second. Despite all these genius plays, it was only a four point win. We didn't even have the best player on the field."

"No!" Mara butted in, "it was that Wrexwic winger, the one we don't even have the name of! Three tries and more runs than we can imagine. We're lucky they only had one of him. Two or more of that man and Wrexwic'd beat anyone."

"Yes but there's only one of him, and we beat him. And you know who else we beat? Falkasia! A side who are perhaps more in tune with the real meaning of rugby than the rest of us, that is having a pint and a chuck-around with the lads. If only they saved the pints for after the match, they'd be someway competitive."

"Ah now Damian, they've won two, same as us. And to be fair, completely destroyed Wrexwic, where we struggled." Duncan sat back and cracked open a cold one. Damian just about held back his laughter and went on.

"So yes, we put together our best performance in a long time to win in the end, by thirty three points. Jones struck again, naturally. Pete Davis enjoyed a brace, some others enjoyed singles. And of course, get this, Rasolo scored a try!" The audience audibly gasped, with some applausing. "I know, I know, especially surprising consid-"

"Hey Damian who am I?" Duncan got up and stumbled around their sofa, made to tackle Knight, then fell flat on his back. While the audience laughed, Damian buried his head in his hands. While Duncan got back up, Damian air quoted:

"Professional."

"Just lightening the mood a bit, only sadness awaits. Our one and only loss!"

"Indeed. At the climax of today's games, we went up against the hosts Neu Engollon, and fell twenty six points to twenty one. Let's get an idea of it shall we?" Damian turned to the television as it turned on. "The hosts struck first with some well crafted tries."

On screen there was a lineout, Gondino throwing to his throwers and then out to Emmett. The scrum-half sprinted past a Bvrianian defender, passed to Hoerner, the out-half kicking long across the field for winger Marino Riazzi to collect and touch down. He then had no trouble kicking the drop for the extras. Jones took the kickoff well, but a fumbled pass from Jackson gifted possession back to the hosts. Renvier got his first touch of the ball, the centre crashing over Movu and passing to Riazzi who went most of the way. Jones caught up, but Hoerner was in support to finish off a wonderful try. Conversion and all.

"Not a good omen going down so quickly. It remained like this till seconds before the break, check this out!"

As the clock grew cloesr to seven minutes and the break, Bvriania grinded up the field. Manning to Colbert, then to Rayner, to Davis for a strong carry and offload to gain some momentum. Slow work, but it was working. As the clock went into the red, they were parked about ten metres out. Rayner grabbed the ball to pass once again, dummied, and ran through the resulting gap.

"Boom! And like that we struck back. Davis had no troubles from right in front. Then the second half started, and it got worse. Neu Engollon struck right back, bulky Renvier crashing over in the first minute of the half. A missed conversion gave us some hope, and we sure took it! Jones scored our next try. Of course he did, who else would? Davis' conversion reduced the gap to five points, and things were on the up...for a few seconds." He narrated as it played on the television. "As you can see, we kick off here and everything's looking good. Riazzi's running with it, to Renvier and then Hoerner, and then back inside to Renvier to Riazzi! Listen to the crowd, they liked that! And inside one more time for Emmett to finish a gorgeous try. One conversion later, and it's twenty six to fourteen."

"Bleak!" Duncan shouted, "but we never gave up! Rasolo came off the bench and gassed the home team to score a try as the clock expired. No need to see it take my word for it. Final score, Neu Engollon twenty six, Bvriania twenty one. And that was the day for Bvriania. We stand third in Group C, with Racao and Vangaziland left to play. Racao are ranked as the third best Sevens team in the world. Is a win possible? Hell yes! I'm predicting us to destroy Vangaziland, and Racao struggled against Vangaziland. So I'm optimistic for tomorrow!"

"More than I am, Duncan. At this rate the best I can see coming our way is winning the Plate, or maybe even the Bowl."

"Who cares about the Cup anyway? Getting to the World Cup is the real prize, and we're right on track! Good night Bvriania, tune in tomorrow for the deciding matches of the AVBF Sevens pool stage. Goodbye!"

“Hello Neu Engollon and to our international viewers. You’re tuned into the NETV 7 Sports Update and I’m your host, Karl Demais. My co-host, Magda, is here, as well…”

“Hi everyone! We’re here in Burgunden, but not in our usual studios.”

“That’s right. We’re broadcasting live from Confederacy Park here in the downtown area. Once again, we’re covering the Alpen View Brew Festival Rugby Sevens Tournament.”

“It’s been a full day of matches here at the first day of the festival. Some matches more predictable than others. The Goats have started out this morning with their toughest opponent of the group first, the match against Racao. It might have been a loss but it ended up being a rare draw. A lot of that is thanks to Urbach and Caravalo’s tries and an incredible streak of great tackles from Felix Marten.”

“Marten was an animal, for sure.”

“It might be the toughest match that the Goats needed to face, but possibly not…”

“There was the following afternoon match against the Vannish. Unranked in rugby 7’s, but known for being a sporting nation and some tough customers, in general. They were handed a surprisingly severe loss by fellow unrankeds Falkasia, but have since come around to show that they are a team who means serious business, even if they don’t have quite the experience of some other circuit squads.”

“Unfortunately, they had to face Racao next, which probably sealed the deal as to their fate. One of those teams that you have to sympathize that they barely had a chance stepping on to the pitch considering the group play they were facing.”

“I’d have to agree with that, Magda. Back to the Goats, their last match was against Bvriania, and it was a very close one, indeed.”

“With Bvrianian opposition like Davis, Jones and Rayner, it’s surprising that the Goats could pull this one off at all. Yet, they did. Hoerner and Renvier brought it back in, and finally Horst Emmett touched the egg down in the try zone to get that winning try.”

“While the Goats weren’t able to hold the Bvrianians from scoring more tries, they weren’t able to score enough to surpass the 26 points on the board for the Goats. More than possibly any other match of this whole tournament so far, this one has been 14 minutes of sheer tension and brute force.”

“Yes, for sure.”

“Let’s get to lighter fare. Both Burgunden Breus and Omholt’s are here, have you had a chance to hit those tents?”

“You know Karl, I was interested more in trying some new stuff, both food and beverages. Royal Imperial has been at the AVBF before and some of the local pubs have carried their brews for a while, but Verndara, Lake Isle, Revinkasaft and McIlhenney’s, among many others...I have to have a taste…”

“Not to mention, the excellent food on offer from Lisander Lounge, Golden Goal or Provence. There’s a lot of breueries offering grub, as well.”

“Can’t argue there. For those of you who haven’t gotten tickets, I say you need to come on down. There’s a full bill of international entertainment, plus so many different beverages and cuisine choices, but most of all, the rugby next door to the beer and vendor tents is the hot ticket here, and you're missing out on the best live rugby you may see in your lifetime."

"We need to head to a sponsor break...
When we come back, we'll review the other matches of the day in the other groups and make some prospective guesses as to who’s going to be playing for the Cup starting tomorrow evening, as well as talk about the miraculous Falkasians, who Neu Engollon will be facing for the first match in the morning.”

“Drunkards."

"The Falkies or the Goats, Magda?"

"Well, take your pick...I heard the Falkies are at the Black Hole club now as we speak."

"That's an oddly specific bit of news. Let's get into this after the break. Stay tuned here to Sports 7 and our special live coverage of the AVBF 7’s. We’ll be back after this sponsor message…”

Eleazar Castell: How an orphanage boy became a instant celebrity?
Mélanie Cavalera, to therugbyzone.ls
Image
Eleazar Castell is the rising star of Castell Rugby.

Eleazar Castell had another outstanding presentation in this morning. With 3 of the 5 tries scored against Darkmania (the other two were scored by Christian Alte, and the 5 conversions and the 2 penalty goals by Eden Stadler), he is being recognized as "the man of the tournament" by lisanderian media. My partner Tiago Dons promised to send him a pack of Yeckr™ if Lisander reach the title of AVBF Sevens. He is a player for Division 2 team Castell Rugby, and was selected for the Irises Sevens by Leonard Assen itself after watching some games of Campeonato Nacional de Clubes. "I was impressed with his speed and ability to turn and avoid tackles. He can easily modify the trajectory of his own movement." And we can see the same. With ten tries in four matches, he is the lead scorer for the Irises.

But many people don't know Castell had a hard life before rugby. Born 23 years ago in a very bad environment, he is a hero for just surviving. His mother was found in a drug den. She had only 15 years old and was six months pregnant. The matter is not a taboo, and they talk openly. "The officers yanked me out of that place and took me to a hospital, I was practically dead, I did not know what I was going to do with my baby, I would have died there if they had not found me", Alayne, his mother, said in an interview.

After rescued, she was sent for a rehabilitation centre, but since she was physical and psicological unable to mantain a child in drug rehab, after one year the little Eleazar was removed from his mother to live in an orphanage. When Alayne finished her treatment she joined him. She was 16 at the time and they lived in the Orphanage for seven years after that. "Today, when I look how much my mother fought for me, I can only be grateful. She saved me and I saved her. She was only a kid when I came to the world, and today I want to give her all of the best she couldn't have", says Eleazar, who received the name of the city as his surname, as is the custom for every child who is born without a father in Lisander.

Eleazar joined rugby in the school, at age 8, and after that, never stopped. He refused to attend College Rugby, since he was not interested in move to Despina leaving her mother behind. Instead of this, he joined the Castell Rugby U-20 team, where his quick style of playing was noted for the first time. Before joining the the LRU-Contracted Irises Sevens, he was working part-time in a supermarket, since Castell Rugby wasn't a full professional team before the start of the new divisional system.

And now he is in Burgunden, breaking tackles and running for tries. And we desire him the very best.

Signs Mélanie, the butter-hearted girl.

What's happening with Natanians and Nosts?

Natanians and Nosts isn't at its best form,we all know, surely all of us wished we were at our pristine state (oh Londinum II...),but unfortunately we're not.The team now is basically at the plate, there really is a high chance of not going to the cup,and may not even win it,now that it has drawn the USAR and lost to Mattijana, well at this rate we may even play at the bowl to be honest.
The team is playing quite differently at some games, that may be the cause of the change, maybe if the coach reverted to the way the team originally played,or maybe there could be new players, because in all NSRB 7s Series history, only the same players have played for Natanians and Nosts, not one single new face for our team, only the same "old" players.Natanians and Nosts has still one match and to try to proceed to the cup,the team needs to win, expect Elejamie to not lose to the USAR and really hope to New South Munster to beat Mattijana, and hope for the 2nd-placed teams from other groups to be worse than Natanians and Nosts, otherwise it's plate, aiblins not even that...
