Just a question:

I'm planning to enter a Unified Team of Kaboomlandia and The Kaboomlandian Foreign Territory (partly to give myself a bigger namebase). There are not enough athletes from the Foreign Territory to need their own post, and they will all compete under the Kaboomlandian flag. Some of them are even competing on the same team as Kaboomlandian athletes. Can I lump them all into one post?
In=character, Kaboomlandia is a World Assembly member and abides by its resolutions. If this nation isn't in the WA, it's for practical reasons.

You'd have to ask the host, but considering the Kaboomlandia Foreign Territory is a Kaboomlandian territory (obviously) and they're all representing Kaboomlandia, it should be fine. I wouldn't even consider it a Unified Team. A number of athletes from U.S. territories with their own Olympic Committees (most notably Tim Duncan in basketball) have represented the US rather than their territory, given that they are US citizens. If it's like that, it can be the same post and wouldn't even be a Unified Team, I would think. One of our NT soccer players is a resident of the Gregoryisgodistan Special Administrative Zone, OOC-ly a separate country but IC-ly a Gregoryisgodistani territory, and that's never been a problem, even in the World Cup which doesn't allow Unified Teams. He's a Gregoryisgodistani citizen, has a Gregoryisgodistani passport, and everything.

So yeah, my understanding is treat them all as Kaboomlandia, don't even bother with a Unified Team since they're not actually representing the Territory, and then state in your RP that they're from the Territory.

On a different note, just a reminder to the hosts, who know me well enough to know this, that some of our athletes' surnames are being rendered in all caps, in spite of the standard request to only capitalize the first letter, in accordance with proper Gregoryisgodistani naming style. In the past, this rule has only applied when the last name is conventionally spelled with only the first letter capitalized. It would not apply to names like McDonald, which is properly spelled with the first and third letters capitalized (as long as it is entered as McDonald and not MCDONALD), nor has it been applied to the "last names" of Gregoryisgodistai commoners, which are properly written in all caps. I request and remind the hosts to uphold this precedent.

You would probably do well in following Greg's advice:

May I ask if one person can be entered into multiple events? And if so, is there a limit to how many events a player can compete in?

Yes they can be entered into multiple events, like in real life (eg. Michael Phelps). There is no limit per se, but please keep it realistic. Just don't have athletes doing multiple sports eg. doing swimming, athletics, fencing all at the same time.

Hey everyone, quick reminder that there's four days to go to put your sign ups in. It is possible that New Gelderland and myself might extend sign-ups, depending on if we have enough time.

I'm projecting we'll reach ~45 delegations by the end of the sign-up period, which is lower than what it usually is, but hopefully that makes it a more personal Olympics, and one where there are greater medal opportunities for all. Thanks to those that replied to our telegram requests.

Alright. We've decided to extend sign-ups AND alterations for another 48 hours. When that time is passes, no further additions, alterations or sign-ups will be processed. It will still start on the advertised date.

XI Winter Olympics - Prescott, Electrum - Bidding City

Image

IC Information

The city
After the logistical success of the Games of the X Olympiad held in Electrum's capital city of Centralis, the Electrum Olympic Committee has decided to make a bid for the XI Winter Olympics, in Electrum's second largest city, Prescott. Founded by settlers who braved the wintry and cold weather of the foothills of the Wilderness Mountain Ranges, Prescott is a cosmopolitan city nestled in the mountains. The town's namesake is Jess Prescott, the first female settler to form her own town out in the Electrum north. Prescott chose the location for its proximity to the redwood forests which surround the city, making for an excellent source of building material (shelter) and heat.

Modern Prescott has a very large and active night scene, with bars and taverns being the most popular in the Blue District, with alcohol being produced in the vineyards to the south of Prescott, taking advantage of the high altitudes and fertile soil. The large mountains are where the tourists go and spend their time at Prescott, with the main ski towns actually a further 80-90km north/north-west of the main city, close to the Great Lake. The main form of transportation between these towns and Prescott are through buses or private automobiles, as the weather is not conducive to other kinds of public transportation. The road network is fairly good, however 'shortcuts' to the ski towns are unsealed and rocky.

The nation
Electrum has co-hosted the Games of the X Olympiad with New Gelderland, its neighbour to the south. (The following information is copied from the previous bid). Electrum is a nation of 40 million people in Rushmore, with borders with Valladares (via the Junin Enclave), Eura, Rhodesiah, Rio Oscuro and New Gelderland to its South. It is known for its vast international commerce and love for all things sport. It is also known for its strict pacifism and anti-war stance, the nation being founded by refugees who happened upon some no man’s land in Rushmore. Its capital and largest city is Centralis, on the mouth of the renowned Eridanus River. Other major centres include Agri, Hamilton, Port Grenville, Kale, Auras, Prescott, Somer and Warburton-Fairleigh. Prescott is a two hours flight from Centralis.

The venues
(detailed descriptions to come during the Games)

Central Prescott
Northcote Oval: Following improvement works, Northcote Oval will be entirely demolished, and rebuilt again, from a thirty thousand seater to a seventy-five thousand seater chock filled with corporate boxes, Northcote Oval will play host to the Opening and Closing ceremonies.
Ice Sheets at Whitecliff: Curling arena, contains many sheets for group stage play.
Landry's Arena: Ice Hockey arena, with preliminary matches at the nearby National Electrum University - Prescott campus.
The Ice Palace: Short track speed skating, figure skating
Prescott SkateDome: Speed skating
Other venues: Athletes village, media centre

Ski towns
Mt. Buckley
Mt. Buckley Sliding Centre: Luge, skeleton and bobsleigh
Mt. Buckley National Park: Biathlon, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined (skiing component)
Etienne Jumping Centre: Ski jumping, Nordic combined (ski jump component)

Marley's Timberline Ski Resort
XPark: Snowboarding, Freestyle skiing
Marley's Park: Alpine skiing
Other venues: Athletes village (Timberline Lodges)

OOC Information
Experience
Electrum has hosted five tennis tournaments with complex draws, the 2nd World Hoops Showcase and IBC 15/16 with Mizuyuki, the 22nd Rugby World Cup and World Bowl XXVI. In terms of multi-sport events, Electrum has hosted the Multiverse Games successfully, and is in the process of co-hosting the Games of the X Olympiad along with New Gelderland with no major issues so far.

Format and dates
The tournament will last for sixteen days, following the Sochi schedule (with some minor adjustments) very closely. All extended list events will be medal events in Prescott. Demonstration events may be proposed (but scored by another nation or myself) and depending on interest and my discretion, may be part of the Olympic Games (medals aren't counted in the medal tally). This comes with the caveat that these sports must be contested on snow or ice. The tournament is tentatively scheduled to start at the last week of January, into the first week of February. If the bid comes to the vote next week, then I will make it the final two weeks of January.

Scorination Details

All events will be scorinated using xkoranate 0.3.3. I have already started to create new xkoranate files for the halfpipe/slopestyle (which I will soon release to be tested) and for any other sport which needs to be updated. If they don't turn out well, then I will use the current files, making appropriate substitutions for the new disciplines introduced in Sochi.

As per the last Olympic Games, MMAB will be utilised. The RP Bonus will have a slight formula change, with a 20% weighting to the MMAB, 40% for the day's roleplay, 40% for the cumulative roleplay. Multiple posts submitting during one day will be counted as one larger roleplay for the purposes of RP Bonus.

There will be a limit of 200 entries for one delegation, and a delegation can either be one nation or a unified team. Each OOC user will be allowed to have two delegations, with a combined total of 300 entries (not including automatic entries), which is a reduction of 300/400 entries from Baseton (sign-ups will need to be adjusted).

Closing remarks

I would like to thank, as always, Northern Sunrise Islands for creating the logo. If you have any questions, queries or concerns, please ask them.

Some housekeeping matters to attend to now that the Games are over:

1. I need to ask Liventia for the password to the official Games account - this shall be done shortly.
2. As the Vice President (Free Republics) has CTEd I will consult with Liventia on terms of replacement for Vice President.
3. An update to the Olympic Council members should be up within a week (when I get home from my vacation.)
4. As the new President, I'm going to set a deadline of Friday, December 25 at 4:00 PM US Central Time (GMT-6; approximately 168 hours from now) for any more bids for the XI Winter Olympics so we can have them in a reasonable time frame.
5. As required under 1.3.2 of the Olympic Charter, I am going to consider candidates for the Executive Committee Spot, and the appointee will be announced when the bid period closes for the Winter Games.

While bidding will close in about 6 hours, I do have an announcement to make: after discussion with Apox, we have agreed to merge the WC and Olympic discussion threads. Further announcements will be made when we have more details.

Discussion threads? How about just announcement threads? Discussion thread is also the bidding thread of the Games, right? I think it would be too crowded. But I will support the final decision.

Assuming you meant announcement threads, while I'm not a fan of it, I can see why it'd be done. If it is discussion threads I'd hope there'd be more open debate about it.

**Note: If there is enough time for me to do so/someone else compiles it, I will make split versions of the 'shared new scorinators', the results below are derived from Sochi slopestyle results.

Here are the prototype new scorinators for each of the not-updated-files of xkoranate. I'm considering creating separate scorinators for the halfpipe in the freestyle skiing as the results seem significantly more different than their slopestyle counterparts, but I'll wait for some feedback.

All eight new files are here.
