Shaanxi QY-8 Gunship

The McKagan AC-130s provided such effective fire support during the Rovonian and Algeristan campaigns the Glorious Republican Air Force had to have a similar system. The Shaanxi Y-8 was chosen because it was available in large numbers. The Shaanxi Y-8 is a significant upgrade of the An-12 with a new glass cockpit and RADAR. A FLIR, night vision and laser rangefinder, along with new electronic sights mean that each one of the 4 weapons systems available is independently controlled and can attack 4 separate targets at once.

The GSh-6-23M is a 23mm gas operated Gatling Gun that is the primary antiinfantry weapon. This powerful autocannon that can deliver up to 10,000 23mm rounds per minute. The Type 59D 57mm autocannon was a former antiaircraft cannon that has been shortened to attack land targets to take advantage of large numbers of 57mm ammunition stockpiled. The Type 59D loads from 5 round clips. The Type 59D has a practical rate of fire of about 125 rounds per minute. It provides effective antiinfantry and light antiarmor capability. The CLM-01, mounted next to the GSh-6-23M is usually coupled with the Gatling Gun to deliver powerful blinding lasers onto infantry targets. Finally there is a dual 2B9 Vasilek automatic gun mortar mount. They both load from 4 round clips and can fire in a burst mode at 170 rpm but usually sustains a rate of fire of 100 rpm.

An optional hard point on each wing allows for 2 250kg bombs to be carried.
