Overview: Over the centuries of human existence, animals have been used extensively in warfare. Dogs and geese, elephants and hyenas, pigeons and alpacas have been used by military forces from ancient era to the very present day, and although drones and robotics have removed the need for many of these stalwart animal defenders to be deployed in combat, many still remain - assistants and rescuers, explorers and protectors.

Since the 20th century, the use of military marine mammals has been a worldwide trend. Among these animals a prominent role has been played by the Tursiops Truncatus - the common bottlenose dolphin. Intelligent, friendly to its handlers and yet viciously aggressive when the time comes, dolphins have found a niche in reconnaissance and patrols for unexploded ordnance and naval mines. However, it is in antiswimmer patrols that the bottlenose dolphin truly shines.

The bottlenose dolphin is a versatile combat mammal, weighing in between 200 and 400 kilograms, and capable of accelerating to 30 kilometers an hours in a dash, making them a formidable opponent in any fight. It can also be trained to alert trainers of the presence of suspect divers. This, so far, makes the bottlenose dolphin the underwater equivalent of a guard dog - patrolling for potential hostiles and attacking them, or alerting human handlers of their presence.

Over the years, human beings have gone farther than this - enhancing the dolphin’s natural ability to attack targets by ramming them with its snout by creating various weapons to be equipped on a muzzle worn on the dolphin’s scout. Different versions over history included spikes, injectors, and even firearms.

Amalgamated Fauna Services, Incorporated is the current Free Kingdom Navy supplier of military dolphins, with offices, research laboratories and training areas in the Free Kingdom of Allanea and the Imperial Queensdom of Laka Strolistandiler.

The technology: The anti-swimmer dolphin is trained to patrol areas and identify enemy combat swimmers (typically, any unfamiliar swimmer in an area), and either alert their handler or attack the swimmer with their snout. The dolphin’s training must be maintained in peacetime by regular training with swimmers. In this training the dolphin operates unarmed, and the combat divers cross-training with the dolphin wear special padding to minimize injury. During combat operations, the dolphin may either be trained to alert for enemy divers, or headbutt them. Of course during a combat deployment, the dolphin will be wearing a muzzle equipped with a tetrahedral spike-bayonet adapted for this purpose.

For a payment of $2,000, your organization may purchase a compressed air injector device to be worn on the muzzle of the dolphin in lieu of bayonet. This device injects a copious quantity of compressed air into the body of the enemy combat diver on impact, making death near-inevitable.

Alternately, the dolphins can be trained to place markers on swimmers or their delivery vehicles.

The business: Upon paying the sum, your organization will be provided with a single combat-age dolphin and a combat spike. It is your organization’s responsibility to keep the dolphin trained and fed throughout their lifespan, and it is your organization’s responsibility to maintain appropriate facilities for the dolphin.

Alternately, your organization may pay a sum of 1 billion New Dornalian dollars, in order to set up its own combat dolphin program. Amalgamated Fauna Services will provide initial training, guidance in constructing facilities for the dolphins, a small dolphin population, as well as share the documentation and know-how needed to set up and maintain a dolphin program going forward.
