Background: Developed by Allanean Arms as part of the Greater Prussian Anti-Submarine Warfare Initiaitive, the Triton Unmanned Surface Vehicle answers the requirement for a multi-use, optionally-manned, surface warfare drone, capable of filling a range of roles, while reducing the burden on national or corporate logistics. This is accomplished by introducing a modular platform capable of being used in a range of roles, while using shared hull, engine, and control components.
The resulting drone can be used in roles including port protection, convoy and formation escorts, mine clearing, anti-submarine and anti-diver warfare, logistics, as well as serving as a miniature carrier for a reconnaissance drone, ROV, AUV, or other weapons system. Moreover, it is capable of being carried (with its mast folded) within a FEU container, meaning that it can be easily transported by land, sea, or air, and that existing vessels can be easily adapted to operate a Triton.
Each of the Triton drone modifications includes a launch platform for a waterproofed quadcopter mini-USV (the Triton can retain control of the mini-USV out to a range of 15 km, but the USV can be programmed to operate beyond direct control range, or to have control handed over to other craft).
The Triton USV can be operated remotely by encrypted communications, either by frequency-hopping UHF radio, SATCOM, or, when within line of sight, by encrypted light signals (that is, using a high-power lamp or serchlight to flash a computer-encrypted transmission the length of a few words, which activate a specific algorithm for the USV to implement autonomously). Its own programming allows it to proceed to carry out autonomous commands such as waypoints and simplified scenario following when out of range. The software is a visual user interface that is available as a standalone package or as an application compatible with the Bastion II C3I system. In addition, it can be optionally controlled by a crewman and contains seating and control dashboards for two sailors (essentially waterproof laptop mounts).
Triton ASW: In this configuration, the vehicle is armed with a pair of anti-submarine minitorpedoes, as well as carrying a towed sonar-carrying ROV (a so-called ‘towfish’). This allows the vessel to carry out scans of areas at a speed of up to 10 knots, with the sonar towfish moved behind it. The cable allows operations with the towfish up to 300 meters behind the Seahound.
Triton-G: Provided here is a harbor-protection USV, capable of protecting harbors, marine installations, and surface vessels from infiltrators, small surface craft, minisubmarines, and divers. The Triton-G is equipped with a Banshee Diver Detection, Deterrent, and Disruption device, enabling it to both detect and stop divers. It is also armed with an octa-barreled 55-mm depth charge launcher. It is also equipped with a front-mounted remote-controlled weapon station.
Triton-MCM: MCM stands for mine countermeasures. The Triton-MCM is a specialized mine-clearance vessel, carrying a nose-mounted side-scanning sonar as well as a magnetic detector. Mounted after two lightweight torpedo tubes similar to those mounted in the ASW configuration, however, in this case, they carry expendable mine disposal AUVs. AUV is also carried on board and can be used to carry out a variety of MCM and other tasks based on the specific pre-mission configuration. The prow RWS turret can also be used to engage floating mines or other navigation hazards.
Triton-A: Carries an Albatross maritime fixed-wing water-recoverable UAV with a control range of 40 km and an endurance of 5 hours.
