Background: As technology advances, so do weapons. The Hailstone-220 Guided Artillery Rocket is proposed, by Allanean Arms, as the replacement munition for all artillery systems compatible with the Lyran Arms Manticore, including the Allanean Arms Whirlwind and Blizzard MRLS and the 220 mm variant of the Viper Airmobile MRLS. In particular, they are expected to replace the LY 4040, LY 4041, LY 4042, LY 4043 and LY 4044 rocket types entirely in Allanean service. Moreover, they can be fired from a WUAP Menatetz.
These rockets are produced by Allanean Arms with the help of subcontractors in allied countries such as Rythar Industries.
Technology: The principal element of the [i]Hailstone-220 rocket is the addition of front and rear folding guidance fins, in combination with a GNSS/INS guidance system (capable of providing guidance even in GNSS-denied environments).
Warhead types:
AA5050 - Carrying a 85kg, programmable fuze, high-explosive fragmentation warhead, capable of being set to airburst, ground burst, or delayed burst detonation (for penetrating earthworks).
AA5051 - Carrying an 85 kg thermobaric warhead.
AA5050AW - Carrying an 85 kg high-fragmentation airburst warhead designed to engage armored personnel carriers, light-skinned vehicles, and infantry in the open, over 60% of the mass of the warhead is prefragmented tungsten shrapnel.
AA5052 - Carrying 622 multifunction DPICM submunitions, capable of penetrating up to 110 mm of RHAE armor on impact, as well as containing prefragmented shrapnel and a zirconium payload enabling them to start fires. (Saturation is achieved at approximately 12 rockets per square kilometer of target area, meaning that a Lyran Arms Manticore MRLS can effectively saturate 5 square kilometers with a single salvo.)
AA5054AT - Carrying 32 magnetic-fuzed anti-tank Tablet artillery-deployed mines or 9 Caltrop mines to be sown out in a 2 x 2 square kilometer area. (To achieve appropriate density, multiple rockets need to be fired at the same area.)
AA5054AP-150 - Carrying 150 lightweight bounding mines.
AA5054AP-320 - Carrying 320 Houndtooth flexible mines.
AA5055 - Carrying 500 white phosphorous submunitions, this rocket airbursts to spread its submunitions over an area of 2 x 2 kilometers. (This does not mean the entire area will be simultaneously covered in flame, but rather that small fires shall be started throughout this area.)
