Background: Service on board submarines has always been fraught with hazards. In wartime, of course, submarines face the hazard of enemy fire. The threat of lethal accidents - onboard fires, torpedo explosions in the tubes, reactor failures or engine fires - remains with submariners even in times of peace.

For this reason, every responsible navy ensures that its submariners are not only trained in use of their evacuation equipment, but also undergo repeated training and drills for escaping a submarine during an accident.

For this purpose, your navy needs to possess its own Submarine Escape Training Tower - the only means by which submariners and combat divers may safely train for submarine escape and ascent while remaining on dry land.

A Submarine Escape Training Tower (SETT) is a tower containing a tall, cylindrical, pool, filled with clean chlorinated water (or, alternately, if the client desires, clean seawater). Trainees dressed in escape suits may enter the SETT from below through specialized airlocks, and ascend through the water to the pool’s surface, where they are met by dive instructors and medical personnel.

Allanean Arms’ SETT-35 (Submarine Escape Training Tower, 35 Meters), developed by Snogohsian engineers, had been accepted for construction contracts for the Free Kingdom Navy bases at Fort-Jefferson and Innsmouth Naval Base, as well as the Greater Prussian Training Compound Siegfried. We believe that it should be your choice, also, for your nation’s navy.

Technology: The first thing to know about the SETT-35 is that 35 meters references only the depth of the water in the tower’s pool - that is to say, the tower is designed to contain enough water in its pool for the pool’s depth to reach 35 meters, and is intended to enable training for submariners to ascend from depths varying between 8 and 35 meters.

At the bottom of the tower (on its second floor) is an access chamber simulating a submarine’s escape chamber (the exact model and layout of this chamber can be decided upon negotiations with the client), as well as another access chamber simulating a 633 millimeter torpedo tube. These chambers can be used to train military or civilian submarine crew or combat divers who will enter through either the escape chamber or the torpedo tube, which is then flooded, enabling them to exit into the pool and ascend gradually to the surface.

In addition, entrance locks have been set up at the 9-meter and 18-meter mark.

Within the building are an engine and pump room, controlling the pool’s pumps, a control room, where instructors can monitor diver activities throughout the pool, a first aid room for safety personnel, including two pressure chambers for divers. The building is also equipped with a single cargo elevator (can be used for a gurney evacuation) and a personnel evacuators.

SAFETY STOPS ARE RECOMMENDED DURING ASCENTS FROM A DEPTH OF OVER 10 METERS. FOLLOW SAFETY PROCEDURES IN ALL DIVE TRAINING.

On the first floor, the tower will also house a classroom for student briefing and debriefing. The entire building will be fully equipped with a modern communications and HVAC system.

We at Allanean Arms believe the SETT-55 training tower is a great addition to any nation’s navy, great or small. It can even serve a civilian organization interested in providing diver training or recreational diving in an urban setting.
