Background: In today’s world of hard-hitting, fast-paced military operations, among the most difficult challenges of military logistics is connecting the front-line units to their logistics support - the so-called ‘last mile’ of combat logistics, the tie between the forward warehouses and the tanks and men in the field. The design of logistics vehicles always requires a tradeoff between protection and capacity, and even the most well-protected logistics trucks are comparatively lightly armed and thin-skinned.
Allanean Arms, a venerable arms supplier as old as Allanea itself, has proposed this solution, which is both innovative and traditional at once. It is an improvement on the conventional idea of issuing a trailer that can be used directly by armored vehicles, but improved with the newest in modern technology.
A single Llama tactical trailer can carry 8 tons of cargo - 175 rounds of 120 mm tank ammunition, 6,000 liters of fuel in a specialized refueling tank, or other configurations of payload that fit within the platform dimensions. This enables tactical units to vastly increase the periods of operation time without resupply, or to use armored vehicles to deliver supplies to front-line units.
Technology: The key element of the Llama tactical trailer is its wheels, which are mounted on swiveling mounts that do not have a shared axle, allowing them to ve used on even the hardest terrain. Moreover, the tires are airless reinforced tires, enabling the vehicle to be used even with minor tire damage which would have disabled a more conventional wheeled vehicle.
Further, the Llama is equipped with computerized sensors that allow it to interface with the Jambhala logistics management application in use with the Free Kingdom Armed Forces and other organizations around the world. This enables logistics officers and tactical commanders in the field to have a clearer view of when cargo is loaded on, and off, the Llama, and when fuel is refilled or vehicles refueled. (It is possible, if desired, to make software modifications to enable the Llama to interface with the client’s choice of logistics software.
The trailer can be towed with different variants of attachment systems to ensure compatibility with the vehicle it is towed by (for instance, depending on whether the vehicle has a rear door, one can use an attachment system that will not interfere with the door being used).
Surveillance systems, mobile generators, and tactical weapons systems on the Llama platform are currently under development at Alllanean Arms.
