Background: The needs of Greater Prussian regional security and the maintenance of the Greater Prussian regional SOSUS network, as well as the general proliferation of regional-protection of SOSUS networks, have required the creation of a design for a specialized underwater craft for the creation of, and the Coelacanth is the answer of Eirin Maritime Shipyards to this Allanean and Greater Prussian requirement.

Making use of an internal arrangement of seven reinforced 7-meter spheres linked with passages, the Coelacanth is capable of diving to depths over 3,000 meters to perform a variety of tasks using its forward manipulator arms, including retrieving objects and wreckage, tapping undersea cables, and assisting with the installation of underwater hydrophones, active sensors, and their power supply.

Unlike most submarines, the Coelacanth lacks armament, if you discount its ability to install hydrophones and sabotage devices as a weapon (and you really should not). At the vast pressures encountered 3,000 meters under sea level, a torpedo bay would be a substantial point of vulnerability for the vessel, and any production torpedoes would be unable to operate at such conditions.

The stealthy, droplet-like form of the Coelacanth’s sail, its enclosed screw design, and other features such as the use of rubberized anechoic tiling are

The Coelacanth is equipped with extendable landing skegs, to be able to safely position itself on the sea floor, horizontal and vertical auxiliary thrusters, as well as a range of hull-mounted sensors, optical and infrared, cameras, sonar, and searchlights. Dual manipulator arms are used for seafloor work.

Crew conditions: Because of the small size of the submarines, crew conditions are by necessity spartan. The 25 personnel rest in bunk beds. No kitchen exists except for a single microwave oven.

Because the submarine’s crew is small, the two rear spheres housing the reactor compartment are separated from the rest of the submarine, and can only be accessed in port, through the reactor hatch at the top. The reactor itself is walk-away safe.

While the submarine has an estimated patrol time of 3 months, it is ideal to operate the Coelacanth using a mothership or submarine mothership, with which the [i]Coealacanth can dock between missions, enabling the submariners to actually eat decent food and rest in decent conditions.
