Kilun Personal Optics has you covered, with the Ki-9 Flashpen, the smallest armor-piercing portable laser weapon on the market. Using a pulsed-fibre laser system with a time-averaged power of 600-watts, each press of the button fires a 150-joule pulse train of eye-safe 1.5 micrometer infrared light, using chirping to produce short self-focused filaments at a distance of up to 20-meters. Within this range, the beam can penetrate up to 2-centimeters of armor grade steel, sufficient to bore through high-grade information age body armor like XSAPI and Dauntless, as well as modern commercial armorcloth clothing. Against unarmored targets it is even more devastating, capable of boring an 18-millimeter wide hole clean through an unarmored human torso.
The Flashpen uses a rotating safety system at the back of the weapons - when flipped to "off", it operates as a 100 mW green laser pointer when the button is pressed. By default this beam is produced automatically when the weapon is switched to "on", providing targeting and warning capability, though this feature can be switched off if wished. It is powered by a removable 30-kJ superconducting magnetic battery in the back, providing for 44-seconds of firing time. The Flashpen has a durable, self-healing adamant construction, though does not come with integral nano-material repair capability by default. It comes standard with a ring for keychain attachment, and is available in all colors.
