Recent military actions of the Republic of Erloane have revealed that the M1A3 tanks are beginning to reach thier limits. Thus by the decision of the Senate and the Ministry of Defence a survey is going to be held. This is not a contract for outfitting the entire army, this is only an inquiry to open up the MODs options of which MBT to procure. Should no entry satisfy the MOD, a payout of 25 million NSD will be handed out to all competitors, as a form of compensation.

I am writing in response to the Erloanian tender for the replacement of the M1A3 MBT currently in service. The Nacrad Defence Industries (NDI) recommends the adoption of the Type 5 Main Battle Tank, specifically the Type 5-R variant tailored for export.

The Type 5 Main Battle Tank is a distant relative of the M60A3 Patton MBT. It was first developed in 1991 on the then-prevailing tank, as the American M1 Abrams was deemed unsuitable for Nacrad. The tank was almost completely overhauled, with new engines, transmission and gun systems. With the engine being of a smaller displacement and mounted transverse, the turret was also moved further backwards, allowing a longer barrel at 52 calibers long and 120 mm in caliber. Thanks to the advanced technological process Nacrad has made, a computer system is also onboard, allowing it the capability of automatic convoy following and navigation, automatic friend-or-foe identification, real-time generation of firing solution(s) based on prevailing wind and user input, and target-queuing for static targets. Information-sharing is also available, making use of Link 16 datalink. All data is intuitively displayed visually on the Battlefield Information System screens available to the Driver, Commander and Gunner, with the Driver only able to see maps of potential enemies and allies, and the rest able to access the full range of capabilities. This includes the prevailing wind and climatic information, the view from a camera cupola mounted above the turret, and generated firing simulations. However, in case of a malfunction, the system can be easily isolated and analog backups can be used instead.

In order to tropicalise the tank for its clients in Nacrad, across Southeast Asia and Central- and South-America, an air-conditioning system is mounted alongside the air purification and intake system. The system is rated to cool the interior air from 47°C to 25°C within 15 minutes with the induction of outside air at 30°C and 23 minutes without induction. It is rated to warm the interior air from -18°C to +15°C within 6 minutes without induction of outside air.
