KB -17M "GUREN"
- KB-17M is recent development of a long line of Nifonese attack helicopters, which first entered service in 1983. During the Red Monsoon, the Empire of Greater Nifon felt requirement for a new, twin engine assault helicopter to provide CAS to fighting units.
- The helicopter is 17.2 meters long. It has height of 3,85 meters.
- Empty weight is 5.7 tons. With all the necessities for a mission, that rises to 7.5 tons.
- Responsible for propulsion is a bearingless and hingeless rotor system, featuring four blade main rotor and four blade rear rotor. The rotors are fully made of composite, which makes them more durable, The rotor is fully capable of withstanding 23mm anti aircraft fire. and are capable of self folding to ease transport. This chose of design also gives the rotor 75% less moving parts than earlier designs, easing maintenance. Total rotor area is 188 m2.
- Twin Kojima K109 1755 HP Gas Turbines power the rotors. Presence o second engine allows the aircraft to safely return home in case of technical issues.
- Fuel is stored in self sealing fuel tanks. Maximum fuel capacity is 1850 litres.
- Crew is composed of two members - pilot and gunner. The gunner sits at the front, the pilot - behind him.
- The cabin is armoured with about 100 kg of composite armour per pilot.
- Guren is fitted with two mission computers and an automatic flight control system with four-axis stability control augmentation system.
- The crew sitting in their cockpit has at their disposal two LCD displays per each crewman.
- Seats inside the cockpit are designed to attenuate kinetic energy.
- The crew has at it's disposal an integrated communications system combining a radio, HF/VHF, COMSEC and modem. Navigation systems include GPS inertial (EGI), a low-airspeed air data subsystem and fully digitalised map.
- Each crewman wears a Washi Isebi helmet. The helmet combines data from the available sensors into display for crewmen's eyes, allowing them to see beyond what cockpit limitations allow. Data from night vision sensor, radar, etc. is combined to create a fully digital view of the battlefield in 3D imagery. This helmet features a wide field of view, high resolution (1920×1200 pixels) and is compatible with a variety of sensor systems, including legacy ones.
- At the chin of the aircraft is located Washi Wa-18 optronic unit, mounted to the nose in shape of a turret. Wa- 18 combines infrared pointer, large-aperture mid-wave infrared (MWIR) sensor, color TV, laser designator/rangefinder (with eye-safe mode) and an on-gimbal inertial measurement. It is capable of combining those sensors to track a target. Maximum target detection range for infrared is 55.6 km. The laser designator can be used up to 19 km.
- Mounted over the rotor is Washi Yumiya millimetre wave radar. The radar can track 130 targets and engage 16 at once at range up to 10 kilometers. The integration with data-sharing platforms allows it to relay data to ground units and other helicopters.
- The defensive systems include a combined pulse radar warner, and ultraviolet missile warning system featuring 4 optical sensor convertors with 10 km range, laser warning system and a smart countermeasures dispenser.
- Under the fuselage is mounted a 450 24 mm gas operated, belt fed gun with 450 rounds of ammunition.
- Two hardpoints under wing, one at the wingtip for self defence weapons.
