RSAG's 8Ni3500 is an essentially carbon-free 14% Mo,18% Co,8% Ni, 60% Fe alloy with a yield strength exceeding 3.5 GPa and an endurance limit of 2.3 GPa. 8Ni3500 is produced by double vacuum melting with vacuum induction melting (VIM) followed by vacuum arc remelting (VAR) followed by press forging into square billets, cold rolling, finish machining, and then heat treatment. Heat treatment consists of age hardening at 500 °C for 16 hours followed by air cooling to room temperature. 8Ni3500 is the strongest steel alloy manufactured by RSAG and combines extremely high tensile strength and hardness with excellent fatigue strength, toughness, and wear resistance properties and is intended for high performance aerospace applications including aircraft wing components, missile and rocket motor cases, landing gear components, helicopter drive shaft, sand gas turbine compressor components including blades, rotors and shafts. 8Ni3500 also posses excellent workability with a very high resistance to crack propagation, good weldability, and the ability to be readily readily cold or hot formed. 8Ni3500 also offers a service temperature capability of up to 430 °C with superior corrosion resistance compared to tool steels. RSAG offers 8Ni3500 in a variety of forms including billet, bar, wire, rod, plate, sheet and customized forgings.
