Background: Modern warfare rests on modern communications. Everywhere armies go they bring with them short-range radios, digital encrypted cellular systems, thousands of miles of field telephone wire. Long-range radio systems, carried on trucks or on fixed mounts, are necessary to connect division commanders with headquarters units and ships at sea, and ships at sea with ground stations.
For this purpose, the Serene Power Company] offers the Gjallarhorn, a short-wave radio system that can be deployed either on a truck or on a fixed outpost in the field.
Gjallarhorn is composed of a long-range antenna booster, a shortwave/ultra-shortwave radio system, a generator to power it, and a pair of computer workstations to control the feed. Capable of frequency hopping, encrypted, radio transmission, the Gjallarhorn can be used to establish operational and strategic communications on the short-wave or ultra-shortwave spectrum. It can be used to boost signals over truly enormous distances or receive signals from senior commanders.
Power: The Gjallarhorn can operate using its own power source. However, using an external power source increases the range of the radio substantially - thus the listing of two different ranges for the mobile and stationary variant of the Gjallarhorn. Placing the truckborn version into a static position, raising the antenna and hooking the system up to a grid source of energy vastly increases performance.
Frequency-hopping: Frequency-hopping capabilities minimize the chance of the broadcast being intercepted or jammed. However, wide-spectrum strategic jamming may still overcome the Gjallarhorn.
CBRN protection: Like many other products sold by the Serene Power Company, the workstations and interior of the Gjallarhorn are protected against radiation, and against the ingress of fallout and HAZMAT. Enclosed and with the air filtering and positive pressure systems activated the crew of the Gjallarhorn may continue operating even during severely polluted conditions or CBRN warfare, a function that may be useful both during recovery operations or during war.
