Background: Emergency forces and military organizations are often faced with the need to rapidly deploy fuel or water over great distances. As intermediate-term solutions, pipeline battalions have been sometimes called upon to lay down rigid pipe systems. However, this is a labor and time-consuming process. In the context of a forest fire, a humanitarian disaster, or a military offensive, a battalion of troops deploying a mile of pipe in two hours is nothing like acceptable.
For this reason, Hammond Motors hereby wishes to offer the world community this EPS emergency pipeline system. This consists of several items:
Retrieval and Laying Station: (visible on the artwork above). This is a TEU-sized device, capable of carrying a mile’s length of flexible, reinforced 150 mm pipe. (Each container ships with a mile’s worth of pipe, but more pipe can be ordered separately or produced independently by the client). When mounted on a moving vehicle (we, of course, recommend our own Bovid series of trucks), the system can be used to deploy the pipe by driving the vehicle forward at a slow pace and letting the pipe unroll. While work is still required to secure the pipes and install accessories, a company of men is capable of deploying the pipe at great speed - double the construction speed of an aboveground fixed pipe structure with half the personnel (at short distances of a mile or less it is of course possible to just unroll the pipe, resolving the whole issue in literally minutes ).
Pumping Station: This includes two pumps leak sensors, and control computer. A pumping station should be emplaced every 10 miles.
Tactics and use:This system is what is termed in military contexts a ‘wholesale’ system - it is designed to deliver a sufficient quantity of fuel to fuel a tank division, but the design is specifically meant for bulk distribution, not for refueling vehicles at each pumping station.
In a military context, the proper deployment of the EPS system is with a company-sized unit that specializes in its use. A pipeline company would require approximately 150-170 troops for full operations to deploy a 100-mile length of pipe in an emergency situation.
